Some ideas for you to consider, depends on how thick your skin is to the sarcasm and how much your friends love and respect you:

1. I eat this way on doctors orders (your beloved NH or Dr. Graham, you don't have to say).
People tend to accept what a DOCTOR prescribes.

2. Bring a huge quality of fruit to the table, seat only that, share if they want any, don't if they don't. Most people are so self absorbed that after a few seconds of attention to what you are eating, they will completely forget about what's on your plate.

3. Be open to the fact that your respect for them is not grounded in eating what they eat.

Just some ideas. These have worked for me.

What is always difficult for me is craving what they eat and having to have a little list with me to remind me of why I prefer to eat 80/10/10. Helps me stay strong and feeling great.

Sometimes I think I'm a "Stranger in a Strange Land" or walking amongst zombies. Oh, wait! I am!! And so is everyone else that is truly eating healthy and doing something about the problems in the world today.

Sounds like a good plan. Doug Graham says exactly the same thing: that being so healthy makes us very sad when we see our loved ones suffering unnecessarily and dying before their time.

I'll be there 4 days 1 of which I'm going shopping for rentals on my own. I am checking out possible places I want to live. Glo doesn't enjoy that much. LOL I might also meet with a friend locally.

They are "healthy SAD" eaters. They also take too many RX's and are not in the best of health nor state of mind at times. I think THAT is the worst part of being healthy in body and mind - being aware most aren't.

They are fine on what I want to do. BUT Eldon really is a pain and sarcastic and unwilling to change anything. He sees it he eats it. LOL Glo will be fine on fruit and green smoothies and salads. So, I'll definitely share some items when I can.

Sounds like you're being a whole lot more flexible than they are. Do you think they would be willing to make a game of it and trade 3 days of you eating their way for 3 days of them eating LFRV? They might be very surprised by the changes they experience.

Think about it: their food will likely make you feel lousy, while your food will undoubtedly make them feel great! Hmmm.

Still you love them and you are their guest. It will be interesting however it plays out.

I think the while social interaction aspect of being LFRV is one of the most challenging.

My friend, Gloria, is very adventurous and fun. Her DH is less so in fact he is a stick in the mud. He is adorable and her DH and I accept him as he is. He has a way of being very sarcastic and whiny and this gets on her nerves. When I'm there we are often galavanting off and leaving him at home which isn't fun for anyone actually. He calls her often, etc., When I made my plans he was going to be on a trip. I sense he isn't going and my % of being right is too high not to listen to.

Visiting them in their house means living by their rules and loving it. This also includes food. She doesn't want me to be obsessive or concerned about my diet. She also doesn't understand it and doesn't want to change her program. This all came out when we had a short talk the other day. It upset me a bit and it shouldn't have.

We must be somewhat flexible and do our best. Even if that means knowing how cooked food and all the crap that goes into it effects my system. So what if I am not feeling well afterwards for 10 days. I will survive. Meanwhile they have my respect and I don't cause waves. I am not in these situations that often. I will survive.

I think that's such a good point Karen. More important than any diet is love and respect. And we have remedies its we do eat something that disagrees with us.

Thank you for posting this and for the thought provoking discussion

As I mentioned when I posted this, this is part of the program that I personally am looking at. I will find myself this summer in a situation where strict adherance to 80/10/10 would not be acceptable. I do not know what to expect and this vid was an interesting example of one person's experience.

Again, I am not certain about anything on my vacation except that I will be appropriate to those around me out of love and respect. I can do a green smoothie/fruit smoothie cleanse afterwards.

I saw this a very long time ago. I want to reassure everyone that it is no big deal to eat 80/10/10 and then change.

I was 80/10/10 for two years straight. It was fine but it had it's drawbacks socially. I went off it. I had a bit of a tummy ache for a day or two. It really was not optimum, but so what. It was a good reason to get back on 80/10/10.

The funniest part of eating cooked food after all that time for me was that soup is hot! It really shocked my tongue - my whole mouth.

I am concerned that people on this team might feel intimidated by the all or nothing attitude of some people who make 80/10/10 videos. It is a wonderful wonderful way to eat. But any part of your diet that is low fat vegan is going to feel better than SAD or high fat cooked or raw vegan.

Thoughts? Everyone - anyone?

There are times when we feel it is appropriate not to stay true to our convictions on our healthy approach to eating. I myself am having this issue for my vacation later this summer. Here's one persons experience: www.youtube.com/watch?v=QeNfLQBcjfg&
