I have to agree, the weather in the Sierra's and around Tahoe has been great for hiking this year, and the flowers are outstanding!

Got out Saturday to Mt Rose trail, and Sunday up to Donner Peak.

We hiked our local manzanita trail last night and it was gorgeous out. Our weather has been perfect in the late afternoons, here on the coast of California.

This past Saturday my husband and I traveled up to Highlands, NC. and they have many beautiful waterfalls. We hiked down to Glenn Falls and Dry falls both were beautiful.

I'm hoping in the next few weeks to visit and hike the Tugaloo gorge, I know its a little tough.

We hiked Mt Dana yesterday, just on the border of Yosemite (the summit, that is) the trail starts at the ranger station at the east entrance to the park. It was a great hike, lots of flowers.

there were a few minor injury's but no one was seriously hurt...and even though the fire was 14,000 acres there were only 4 homes lost...the fire departments from around the state were able to save about 4000 homes!!! it was a bad fire but it could have been much much worse!!!

I took pics and posted them in a blog. Our snow is gone, except for some little patches over 10k. The trip was good other than the not being able to breathe at that altitude. It was gorgeous and I had a great time. We're planning our next trip for weekend after next...how about you? (and we're going lower elevation!)

we're planning a 2-3 hour hike wednesday AM. hiking a trail at our local park. well, we're guessing it's 2-3 hours, our rule of thumb is figure 2 miles/hour, and it's 6 miles. but i don't think there is that much elevatation change, so it may go much faster.

They were nice will post a few pics later. We re-aligned about 400 yards of the PCT on thursday and friday so I didn't feel to guilty about taking off and doing the log out while some of the people that came up for the weekend did the trimming and some new water dips.

Just got back from trail maintenance and am relaxing and checking email before I attack the rig and all the gear. I found out how to go hike during maintenance trips. You sign up to do trail survey. Did 13 miles toward sawyers bar till snow turned us around. Next was a log needed removing from the trail at about the six mile mark going the other way. Two beautiful hikes spoiled only by the fact it was the warmest weekend this year, into the 90's. Iknow I whine but I am from Oregon.

We are going to have to change our backpacking plans for this weekend, it's really, really hot at the lower elevations. We don't have to think about snow anymore. So now we're planning on going in at Lake Thomas Edison, up to Graveyard Lakes...then somewhere from there. It should be beautiful.

The permits are free if you walk in and can get one, to reserve a permit is 5$ per person, but where we want to go right now they are all taken. We can probably get a walk in, but it's a gamble. It may be a moot point, since I turned my ankle on the run down from Donner Peak (darn those wobbly rocks!) and now it's quite swollen and purple...2 weeks from our trip. I'll be icing and taking it easy instead of ramping up my workouts to condition myself for a hard climb!

Can't see the pic...

We're planning a trip for early August, will have to keep the snow level in mind, but what we'll do we'll likely need ice axe and crampons anyway, so more snow may make it easier!

Right now we're looking at Mt Humphrey's in the Eastern Sierra, it's just the permit that may be the crux!

We've been biking more than hiking lately, but today may run up to the top of Donner Peak.

Wow, and I thought I was in for an adventure. I hope you're having the experience of a lifetime!!

On Thursday, I'm leaving for my first overnight hiking trip. I've gone camping several times and hiking dozens of times, but I've never done a multi-day hiking trip. I'm so excited! My fiance and I are doing a 13-mile trip through a section of the Long Trail in the Green Mountain National Forest. I can hardly wait!

"If you don't take care of your body, where will you live?"

"It's supposed to be hard. If it wasn't hard everybody would do it. It's the hard that makes it great."

Add me to the jealous list! Have a GREAT time and tell us about it when you get back!

That snow is still really low! It's going to make those river crossings a real bear!

Both of you will have a great trip. I have been to the Sierra's, living in Calif., but not the Alps. Take lots of pics!!

Today I hiked to the Saddle in Mt. Baldy. Just getting back into hiking since my broken toe. I have done this a couple of times recently and hiked to the Ski hut. I got out of shape not exercising in this time. When I climbed to the Ski hut in Mt. Baldy I thought I was going to pass out from not being able to catch my breath. So I have decided to at least hike to the Ski Hut once a week and get those lungs back into shape. On Thursday I am leaving to go to Idywild camping. So I am sure I will find some good hiking in that area. It's been awhile though.

Would you believe my next hike is going to be in the Alps?? I still can't hardly believe it. We're headed to Europe in a couple days, and we'll be spending a week in Switzerland to do some hiking with the family. I'm really excited about this opportunity!

We still have a ton of snow above 6000' and lots of patches above 5000' and I'm planning a hike in that general area of elevation maybe across a pass at 7000'. At least the path is open country and you don't really need the trail to stay found thru there.

My sister just came back from the lower western sierras (California) and said there is still a lot of snow. We're planning a backpacking trip in three weeks time to that same genereal area. We're going in low, about 6,000 and the highest pass we're doing is only 10,000, so hopefully we won't run into too much snow.
