If 48th and Guadalupe are anywhere near you, there are some nice long trails that come to mind, let me find a link. http://phoenix.gov/parks/hiksogud.html
The Buena Vista lookout is nice.
If you don't mind a little bit of a drive, there's Karchner Caverns: http://www.pr.state.az.us/Parks/parkhtml/kartchner.html south of you. You can go do the tour of the caverns and then there's a hike outside that you can go long or short...though it's not very difficult.
There are also some long, difficult and beautiful trails in Saguaro National Forest, also in Tucson. This is an outstanding hike http://www.americansouthwest.net/arizona/saguaro/hugh-norris-trail.html and any of these trails http://www.americansouthwest.net/arizona/saguaro/east.html Great, great hiking here. We do first light kind of stuff. Go fast and hard as it's just getting light.
Have fun and let us know where you go!
“Life is not a journey to the grave with intentions of arriving safely in a pretty well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming ... WOW! What a ride!”
