Great story, great posts.

Reminds me of some saying I heard a long time ago... name the name -- play the game and/or act as if...

I remember being successful with any diet I started... I always thought it was the money I invested in the program... I thought I would be too embarrassed to not lose if I was spending a lot of money... now I realize it was my positive attitude... I will lose weight... I will be slim, healthy and fit!

Michelangelo's last sculptures appear unfinished and there has been some controversy if they were truly unfinished or meant to be as they appear. Think of his magnificent "David" in Florence and then imagine David still largely unfinished, still encased in rough marble with only hints of the perfect body within. Such is the appearance of one of the sculptures called "The Prisoner". We are all "prisoners", but there is a perfection waiting to be revealed by our own personal imaginations and our hard work in revealing what we KNOW is inside. This is within our power, we just need to finish the work. emoticon

Thank-you for posting this, Lynn. It reminds me of something I read in a book titled, "The Holistic Approach to Eating". It states that there is already a person inside of you who is your perfect weight (your inner self who was created perfect in every way). The book has exercises and guided visualizations to help you get in touch with your ideal self and communicate with this part of you on an on-going basis. So, in a sense, we all do have a twin. And he or she already has all of the answers we need.

Thanks for sharing that Lynn! I love Brian Tracy! We teach the people in our organization that they need to act like the level they want to be at before they earn the title! When I started my business, I always asked myself "is this what an ENVP would do?" If not, I didn't do it! Same process!

Thanks again for sharing the great information!

Make it a great day.
Lisa

I was reading Brian Tracy's book Goals this summer when I was vacationing in Carlsbad and he asked the question, what one thing is so important that if you don't achieve it that everything else is secondary. This led me to begin to really seriously address my health. I didn't just read the book, but I took all of the ACTION steps that he recommended and I took up rowing (which I love) and began the nutritional adventure that led me to SparkPeople. I decided that without my health, everything else was unimportant. At the time, I didn't even realize that I had some of the undiagnosed health problems that I later discovered. By taking early action, I was able to commit to all of the lifestyle changes required, because I had already visualized the result and committed to doing whatever it took and then God or the Universe took me up on my offer. Brian Tracy actually started the process that led me to this very page and this message. emoticon

What an interesting and unique exercise... As a newbie to all this, I am in awe. Some stuff I don't get yet, but this I could do.

Brian Tracy has been sharing "The Secret" for years. He calls it "Goal Setting" and "Success Mastery", but the principles are the same. I've heard Brian Tracy speak for 8 hours without any notes and he does this all around the world. His personal success story is rather incredible. He writes and talks about visualization, etc. emoticon

What a neat idea!

I had a very interesting conversation with a medical equipment salesman that was delivering some merchandise to my mother yesterday. He was about 40 years old, obviously working out as he was well built, his posture showed that he had a lot of confidence, and appeared to be financially successful. We got to talking about sales, motivational speakers, the law of attraction, and, of course, The Secret (which he hasn't seen or read yet). He told me that only two years ago he had wanted to improve his health, lose weight, and make more money but was having trouble visualizing himself as thin, muscular, healthy, and successful. No matter how hard he tried, he just couldn't picture it. Then one day, he was listening to a motivational CD by Brian Tracy on which Brian said that if you want to achieve a goal, just ask yourself how someone who was already successful would act. From that, he got the idea to create his perfect "other self" - his "twin" but who was already slender with nicely developed muscles, who ate right and was healthy and who was making $100,000 per year (almost 3 times what he was currently making). He even named his "twin" (though he wouldn't share the name with me). Then, every time he'd go to do something, he'd ask himself what (the successful twin) would do! This question was asked regarding almost every action, even what he was going to wear ("Would (successful twin) wear THAT?") If the answer was "no" then he wouldn't do it either. When he started ACTING successful, and making choices like he was already successful, he became successful. He lost weight, started working out (and looks darned good), became much healthier, and increased his income to $100,000 per year in just over a year's time.

I wanted to pass that along since I sometimes have trouble visualizing my success and I thought this was an excellent way to do it. I'm currently in the process of describing and creating my perfect "twin".
