Hey everyone. I hope to stay active in this group. Everything I've seen seems pretty cool and the people here genuinely want to help. I do have a question, I keep seeing the tracking bar at the bottom of peoples posts and wanted to know how to add and change the background of it. I should remember because I tried spark a couple years ago but didn't stick with it. I hope to not do that this time. I have to lose this freaking weight.

Wow! Thats awesome!!! I love the elliptical! Sometimes have trouble staying on for more than 30 minutes. I was able to do 60 minutes for the first time yesterday at a varried resistance. I ended up burning 625 calories. I felt AMAZING. Seriously wish I could do that everyday. Would be nice! lol

Im also on MySpace and Facebook feel free to request me!

I wouldn't mind being a buddy. I too have a hard time trying to do this. I seem to go in and out of my motivation a lot. Maybe this will do us both some good. We can interact each day or week and let each other choose a exercise for us to accomplish within that time frame. If you're interested. Good luck!!

I am amazed at how some of you keep your motivation up. Most of my friends are small or they just don't mind how they look. I wish I felt good about myself, then maybe I would feel okay too. So any keys to success with motivation would be appreciated.

I was amazed. I have taken a few of the things they busted!

you can select muscle groups and it will show you exercises that work that group. Way cool!

You may have to cut and paste in parts. it is well worth it.
This link it to a chat thread. It is a long one. The main post is about half way down. it is kinda geared to wards body builders but has some awsome FYI information. There are also some links to other articles that seem to be geared towards general healthy lifestyle groups.

It was called 'living the fat-burning life'
It had alot of easy to follow hints on getting rid of fat.
They also had alot of other useful but less interesting articles.

You can also try asking for plain soda water instead of tonic. No calories and none of the artifical sweetners. Add a splash of juice and you are all set!

I love that other people are concerned about finding a way to drink while still being healthy(ish) & losing weight. I never thought about subbing Sprite Zero for tonic, but I bet it's awesome & will probably try it out.

My mom really has a hard time getting motivated. To get her motivated I made her a deal...if we both get down to goal by next April I will take her to this organic spa...so after I get home from the gym we walk 3 miles and that is our time to talk and destress from the day. And every Friday if we walked all week we walk down and get a small ice-cream as a reward. It is really working and it helps to have a work out partner.

In order to see the rainbow...You have to make it through the rain.

Goals:
February 1st~160lbs
March 6st~155lbs(Cruise!)
April 1st~150lbs
May 1st~145lbs

Working out does not have to be work. Instead of sitting and waiting for people do laps around the mall. I was amazed when I brought my pedometer and found I had walked 3 MILES while waiting for people.

Im net to this team. I just need to get in shape and feel better. I do have alot of close that I wore when I was in my early 20's that Id like to wear again. My goal is 30-35 lbs by new years. I want to go out and party in my red silk pants.
I live of off swiss trial mix when I crave chocolate and sweets. Its healthy for you about 110-150 cals depending on brand and 10-19 carbs. That and its just heatlhy for you all the nuts and raisins.
mmmm yummie!

Hey! I just joined today too.. need to figure out a way to loose 20lbs by my birthday in July. I am sick of opening my cupboard and seeing all these fabulous clothes that I could fit into a year ago!

Question: Does anyone know how one can loose weight while still drinking at least 6 units a week?

I keep a South Beach pizza or two in my freezer that way when I have a craving for "junk food" that I can't shake, I'm at least eating a South Beach single serving pizza rather than full size pizza from an regular pizza joing. Good luck!

i fell off the wagon last month and so i'm working hard to get back on track... i keep a small piece of fruit or two on hand and i eat them about a half an hour before i used to get really hungry (like 10AM and 2PM). They are sweet and tastey and i don't get cravings later on. i also try not to buy sweets so i don't have them around when cravings hit.

i'm also trying to change up my fitness routine, that is slow coming but i'm working on it. just gotta keep moving, keep trying, and keep working on it.

Hi! I just joined the team...I was a part of Spark about a year ago, but kind of dropped off when i thought i didn't need to lose anymore weight...tragically winter packs on pounds...so i'm back to the drawing board!
The worst part is, though, is I'm having a really difficult time losing and staying within my calorie range this time. I'm exercising more, but it's sooo friggin hard to say no to sweets.

Any suggestions?

Only 8 more pounds to go! And now onto siphoning the 3 percent of extra fat off my body!

Hello! You said you're pretty knowledgeable with South Beach Diet. I was considering trying that out...can you tell me what the basic dietary plan is? I mean what the main factor of it?

Hey everyone and happy st. patty's day! My name is Lindsay and I figured I would introduce myself here! I am 23 and have a 2 yr old daughter. I lost a lot of weight last year and then put it all back on over the holidays and winter.
I know what I need to do to get back on track and my husband and I agreed to start today and make it work this time! I look forward to getting to know this group. Lord knows I need some positive people in my life right now! I am pretty knowledgable when it comes to the South beach diet if anyone has any questions I would be happy to answer them! This time around I am not doing full blown South Beach. I would love to get down to 130 before the summer is over. I have to change my ticker because I am definetly back to 165. Like I said before I am looking forward to meeting all you and making some friends =)

I will do it this time around!!!!

Yes, I am just barely getting myself back on track here. It is hard work but I have lots of different work out videos and a gym membership. Now the goal is to have the motivation to stick with it and get back on track again.Any words of encouragement will be greatly appreciated.

get a work out video (or just take lessons) for salsa or bellydancing. These are fun ways to workout!

Hey ladies :) I've been doing everything right, with eating and exercize, with the exception of a glass of wine here or there.. But I need to have a seriously good week, since I leave on vacation next wedensday for a week. I'm excited about the trip, but I don't want to feel like I have to bring a moo-moo along for the beach! Any suggestions? for food or to mix up my cardio and maximize my next week?!?

Goals:
5lbs a month, at least.

Order your favorite drink. Enjoy it as slowly as you can. Then, order water and leave the drinking up to the other girls. You still get to enjoy your drink, and the company of your friends, but you save a lot of calories by utilizing moderation. Good luck! emoticon

This weekend was horrible! I literally worked 24 out of 36 hours from Saturday at midnight to Monday at 8am. I got to sleep for about 6 hours during that time. So not only I am exahusted but I ate what was available (mostly pizza and other junk)!! I really am going to try to hit the gym today to try and recover!! After gaining last week I though I was on a good roll until those unexpected work hours hit! emoticon

hi all, new to the group and just wanted to say hello. so, hello! i just re-joined sparkpeople yesterday after finding out about my 8th wedding this year... i have eight weddings to go to between april and october! i do not want to look ridiculous in any of my dresses, nor do i want to buy any new ones (well, maybe one or two - but as a reward for losing weight, not because i can't fit into any that i own!).

anyway, i have some ambitious goals - mainly losing 20 pounds by mid-april, and then eventually getting down around 150. but i'm very excited, and reading through the posts on this board made me even more excited and motivated!

Thanks for the suggestions & support, Jenny & Nichole! I've thought of another trick to keep me away from the vending machines that I tried yesterday: I don't keep any cash/change on me while I'm in the office! It worked yesterday along w/bringing more fruit for snacks, so I'll keep you updated on my progress

Hi Laura and Welcome. . . Wow Snacking.
Try packing your lunch it works. Buy some of thos 100 calorie packs and try those and some juice and some fresh fuit and veggies as well. . .It is just a suggestion it is helping me. . .
My Typical Day incase you like to know
is I wake up at 6:30 go for an hour walk usually a two mile walk I do than about 8:00 I eat cup of oatmeal and one piece of dry toast at 10:45 I 1 cup of fruit and 12:00 Salad with cup of fruit
about 3:30 I have 100 calorie pack and than about 5ish I have dinner two veggies and something of protein (inwhich my doc thinks now I need to give up) and at 7 sugra free pudding amd than at 8 I exercise

I have learned if You pack your lunch and drinks and stuff it is easier to stay away from the machines and the co workers asking you to go out with them.

Always know you have friends....And Dont Sweat the Small Stuff it is All Small Stuff. .

Hi there Laura! WELCOME!! :) I have a HUGE problem with snacking & being hungry often too! But, i've started something new, and it works!! most of the "stars" do it too! :) Eat 5-6 SMALL meals a day. It keeps you from being hungry, and munching!! :) A normal day for me is as follows.
Breakfast(around 8:00) - Oatmeal
Snack (around 10:30) - 1 cup of fruit
Lunch (Around 12:00) - Soup OR Salad OR a Sandwhich
with 1 cup of fruit, and a 100-Calorie Snack Pack
Snack (Around 3:00) - 1 cup of Veggies
Dinner (Around 5:30) - Meat(DONT EAT PORK-its the highest in calories), about a cup of A canned/frozen Veggie, and an applesauce! :)
I NEVER eat after 7 p.m. Sometimes, if i'm STARVING. I have 100-calorie bag of popcorn or pudding!! :)
Sorry to go into such detail.. but, basically, by "eating" every 2 hours or so, in small portions. AND packing enough food accordingly. It will keep you from attacking the vending machine!! OR, if you REALLY have to have some chips or sugar... that just means you'll have to BURN it all off that night at the gym!!! Which takes ALOT more work to burn than it does just eating!! :)
Good luck!! :)

Hello everyone! I'm brand new to the group and just wanted to say hello! I've been doing REALLY good about going to the gym (i'm doing 3 turbo kickboxing classes & 2 lift/strength classes per week) and I LOVE it! But, i've been really bad about the eating! I start the day w/great intentions. I pack breakfast and lunch and even healthy snacks to bring to work, but around 3:00 when all my food is gone, I cave and go to the vending machine and get something awful like chips or a candy bar! How do I get past this craving I get in the afternoon?!

Couch to 5K is a running program designed to get people from being sedentary to being able to run for 30 minutes straight. It takes about 9 weeks to do (3 sessions a week) and the plan is available on coolrunning.com for free. For the most part it's a running/walking plan until the last week.

As for cramps while working out, make sure that you're drinking water as you work out and slow down when you start to hurt.

Hi ana! i start to "munch" before dinner too! But, i've learned a trick. If you munch on carrot sticks or an apple. You don't eat as much dinner. I am ALL about convenience. So, i buy those individually packed celery and carrot sticks. One whole bag is only like 45 calories, and its really good for you!! I also will buy a watermelon and slice it up into little containers for the week ahead. Its SOO easy to pack my lunch every morning when everythings divided up & ready already!! Try it! emoticon

Also.. when it comes to working out. WHAT stops you from going to the gym? I have a few suggestions but i need to know the reason behind your not going to begin with!! :)
I could NEVER belong to a gym, because i know i wouldnt go, and therefor, i'd be wasting my money!! SO, i workout at work, through DVD's on my lunch break at work!! AND, if the local gym is offering a cool class, i pay JUST for the class. Then, i have a commitment! Plus, if its a class i like, i WANT to go!! Let me know if this helps.. We can resort to e-mail if its easier! Good luck & keep your chin up!! we all need a push sometimes... emoticon

Hi I'm starting this again and I am having a really hard time motivating myself to go to the gym. I have a gym membership that I pay for every month but I seem to not be able to get my butt there. I need some motivation. I also seem to not be able to control my cravings for food. I start out fine but before dinner I can't help myself and I eat, eat and eat. Help me! emoticon emoticon

I can barely do 30 minutes before my whole body cramps up & i want to die! emoticon BUT, hopefully that, too, gets easier! What is the Couch to 5k thing? Sounds like fun! How would i get involved in something like that? Anyways, hope your all doing well... keep it up!! emoticon

You could try cutting down on the amount of meat you eat at a time. Also eating out less will save you money and calories; when you eat out, take half of it home to have for lunch or dinner the next day. Limiting yourself to 1 fun sized candy bar can help with the sweet tooth.

I'm starting the Couch to 5K program today. One of my goals this year is to compete in a sprint triathlon and the running is the only part that concerns me.

Hi everyone! I'm new here! Just thought i'd say hello & see if anyone had some advice for me! :) I am looking to lose 20 pounds a.s.a.p, but finding it really difficult, as we eat out alot & i LOVE sweets!! Also, since starting this site/diet Monday, i have noticed my meat for dinner & my PBJ for lunch is REALLY killing my calorie intake. Any suggestions on the lowest cal. lunch/breakfast? I don't want to NOT eat meat for dinner because i ate too much beforehand! :( Also any "sweet tooth killers" would be nice too, as i am definetally struggling with that too! Thanks & i wish everyone good luck!! emoticon

Thanks you guys for your kind words and congratulations. I'm down another 3 pounds and I'm very excited. I'll be going out of town to my favorite city (Atlanta) and I don't know what's going to happen. I do plan on indulging a bit at my favorite restaurant - Cheesecake Factory - especially since we don't have one here in Memphis, but I know it ahead of time so I've adjusted accordingly. Have a GREAT day, lovelies!!

I have only lost 1 pound this week (first week) but that's only because i did not fully commit- i've been lazyyyyyy- classes start next week so i'll be busy! I'm actually excited because that will keep me away from my house and the TV. I have the snack pack tv habit!

"I do not wish for miracles but I do wish for strength,
I know I can control my width but can't control my length.
I won't accept your sympathy but I will accept your trust,
I know I can control my width but can't control my lust.
I do not ask for you to change but just to mind yourself,
I know I can control my width but didn't ask your help.
Understand my body's health has haunted for so long,
I know I can control my width and that's because i'm strong."

Hey, BAYBYGYRL! Congratulations on your AMAZING loss your first week!

You'll find that a lot of people around here have similar difficulties on the weekends. It'll take time for you to readjust your old eating habits in order to make your weekends as healthy as your weekdays. Be patient with yourself, but also be sure to put in extra effort those two days. You need to really train yourself. If it helps, make Monday mornings your weigh-in day. If you have to face the scale, you're less likely to overindulge. SparkPeople also has some great articles about overcoming the weekend obstacles. You might want to check those out.

Good lcuk with your continued success!

Hello everyone!

I've just started over with my weight loss and I am excited. I just had my one week weigh in and I lost 9 pounds! I am simply ecstatic about it! It is really hard on weekends because I'm not obligated to be at school, and so I have free reign and I mostly just want to lay around...and eat...what I WANT to eat, not what I'm supposed to eat. I'm just trying to take things one day at a time and try not to get overwhelmed.

Worrying is just like riding a rocking horse; it gives you something to do, but it doesn't get you anywhere.

Weekends are the hardest for me too. My bf and I usually go to a friends house to watch football or play cards. Everyone brings a little something. Last week we brought the main dish but this weekend someone else is. I usually try to eat a little something before I go so that I don't totally pig out on something that is bad for me. If I totally don't eat then I feel like I'm being rude. UGH...this weekend is going to be really tough.

Does anyone else find it hard to track your calories on the weekend too?

I agree the weekends are the toughest! I have a lot of friends birthdays to celebrate. It'll be quite the challenge. I did pretty well last weekend. Friends of mine grabbed a bite to eat after the bars at 3am! I stayed away from it.
Those are all really good tips Renee. I find I eat more at home too. I eat healthy at work and then I eat constantly from the time I get home until bed. I'm buying healthier snack choices as a start. I got an Elliptical machine to work out on so I won't get bored in front of the TV. I do it every day for at least one episode of a show.
So far so good!!! I guess it's a matter of finding what works for you.

I find myself eating healthier at work than at home. I think part of this habit is because I have snacks and tempting food at the end of my fingertips when I am at home. I have tried to remove all things tempting from my house so that I have to chose a healthier snack. I find myself having the most trouble now watching TV with food commercials. I get it in my head that I have to have that food and I crave it until I go out and buy it. THen I find myself overindulging. I know that if I have it in the house, trying to let myself only have a little bit at a time in not good manly because I have trouble with self control. Another thing that has helped is that I hide my debit and credit card in the little pocket on my purse and carry cash. WHen I go to make a fast food descision, I look at my cash and decide is this really what I want...I only have a few bucks on me so that I can't purchase too much.

Weekends are always tough, just be patient! Being always on the go, do you find that you're grabbing quick, unhealthy foods like fast-food? Try packing meals and bringing them along with you!
