Loved the emoticon, Jane... and the humor behind it.

Gotta say that doctors are not immune from the laws of the universe.
Like every other profession there are some that are on top of their game, love what they are doing and are excellent at it... others that just look at the profession as a way to pay the bills... and everything in between.

Unfortunately people don't come with warning labels. ha

I agree ... I don't think doctors are going to get any better at this. My old doctor wouldn't listen. I tried explaining my symptoms and what I'd read on the internet. She said she wished we patients would stay off the internet! I finally, in tears, asked for a referral to an Endocrinologist. Without even telling the Endocrinologist what I thought was wrong with me, just telling her my symptoms, she told me exactly what I'd guessed was wrong. I fired the original doctor and now have my Endocrinologist and a new primary care physician. I think we have to really search for the doctors who are educated about thyroid disease ... they are not all equally wise about it.

I don't think that doctors will be more aware of the thyroid, but possibly patients will be and ask for tests. Sometimes the hardest thing, is to get a test... particularly if you don't have the typical outward signs of hypothyroid disease.

Docs tend to wait until things are full blown.
IMO its best to catch things and treat early.

In my case, I had to argue with the Planned Parenthood nurse to give me a test for at least 30 minutes.
She kept insisting I looked too healthy, was still in a good weight range for my height, etc.
I was paying out of pocket, the TSH test was $12... so its not like it was costing my insurance company a dime... it was just sheer ignorance on her part.

She finally relented when I told her I wasn't going to leave the examination room until I was tested and joked around about the chain saw in my car. ha

And so it goes...
