I missed checking on Sunday, but lost 3 lbs as of Sunday, probably due to being sick and not feeling much like eating. weighed myself today and down another pound. Hope it stays off.

Sandy, Good for you. My labs are all good but losing weight just is not happening. I started on 5 mcg twice a day probably 15 yrs ago. I a nurse at a University hospital and I was in a clinical trial when I first started taking it, but my weight never changed. I want to blame my weight on my thyroid but that doesn't make it so. lol

Vickiann,

My Dr had me try Cytomel for a while and only had me on 5mcg. to start. It was when she bumped me up to 10 mcg daily that all of a sudden things changed.

Count me in also!
Three weeks ago I joined a gym. I've gone two days a week so far, and I need to increase to three or four time a week. This challenge, and reporting in to other people, will be another push to make exercise a habit.
I realize that for me, I need a combination of a reasonable diet (read lifetime food plan) and exercise to keep me fit and my body in good working order.
Thanks! ( and off to the gym this morning).

I wanna be in too! I so agree with the philosophy of not eliminating things our of your life. Just trying to balance it all in.
Sometimes easier said then done. But I KNOW it works becuase when I working really hard and had very little time for eating and over indulging... I ate what I could and ate as healthy as I could and lost weight.

OK, I'll try and do the 10 lb loss with you. I hadn't lost for a LONG time, then all of a sudden in July and August I lost about 15 lbs just by being a little more careful about what I was eating. I think it was also that my endo changed my thyroid meds around and upped my Cytomel, so for the first time in over two years ALL of my numbers have been within the normal ranges.

Hey Helene,

Its a struggle for everyone, especially when you have thyroid issues, too.

Just start with one or two small things, and focus on those. Whether it be drinking 8 glasses of water a day, or adding fruits and vegetables. I find it easier to add things to my life, rather than remove things - that way I'm not missing anything.

You CAN do it... you just have to KNOW that you can. :)

You have a great weekend, too!

Sue

Hi Super:

Please don't apologize for a long post, I appreciate your advice. Everything you said makes absolute sense, I agree, the more I try to give up the things I love, the more I seem to overeat them. I have just been struggling with losing weight for over two years now and it really brings me down. I recently took off about 6 pounds but it appears I have gained it back in one weekend by having drinks and junk food over the weekend (football party)....that is really discouraging but I will have to watch from now on and try to make healthier football party snacks, that is all I can do. I have to get back to the gym too. Honestly, I really think I know what to do but have issues trying to do it. I'm just at that age where sometimes I say the heck with it, I really want to eat this so I'm going to. I have to change this attitude too I think.

Well thanks for the great advice, keep up the good work and have a great weekend.

Helene

Hi Helene,

The long and short of it is....

I eat less and move more.

I know its more complicated than that, but it really does boil down to that. I watch what I eat, and accurately count all my calories. I have a food scale that I weigh things out on. When I'm working (I'm a freelance / contract worker) I usually (90% of the time) bring a lunch and snacks, that are all portioned and weighed and tracked the night before. BUT - I love chocolate, cheese, wine, beer, etc. And I have cut NOTHING I love out of my life. I just find a way to work it all in. So, for cheese - I buy the good quality stuff and a little bit goes a long way. I do buy some lower fat cheese, but I find that sometimes I need to use more to have it taste the same, so what's the point? It obviously depends on the situation. And chocolate - I find that if I eat a cheap convenience store candy bar, I'm not satisfied even if I eat the whole thing (200 - 300 calories) whereas if I buy a good quality, dark chocolate bar, I can have a couple of squares and be completely satisfied (100 calories). I can't cut out the things I love, because I wouldn't stick with it. However there are things that I don't love, but just like, and therefore I rarely eat those - fries are a good example. And chips - well, I love chips, but they're just so bad and addictive for me, that I avoid them as much as possible!

And as for exercise - I'm lucky that I live in a city so I walk to work almost every day (4.5 km). I discovered that I love running, and hiking and rock climbing. And I discovered that my friends also like doing those things, too, so suddenly we're all more active, together. That has REALLY helped.

And finally - take one day at a time. I've made mistakes, we all do. I gained about 5 pounds over the summer (its gone again, thankfully, lol) but that's life.

You can do it, it just takes a bit of time and thought to figure out what works for you, what you can LIVE with and stick with and do for the rest of your life.

Sorry this is a bit long, but hopefully it helps! You have it in you, you just have to keep trying. When one thing doesn't work for you, you've taken a step forward - you've just discovered that it doesn't work for you! so you can try something new!

Sue
