When my endo told me my TSH was too low at .04, I felt good but noticed my hair was falling out. That threw me for a loop. I had NEVER lost hair, before, so I didn't know what to think and reluctantly agreed to drop my medication by 1/4 grain. (I hadn't told my endo about the hair loss because I really didn't want to drop my dose; he went only by the TSH number) Then I went to Mayo and got back to my former dosage. I feel good. My hair is mostly back and I've concluded I lost it due to different med I was taking. I have to take large doses (400 mg) of zinc because my level was so low. After checking, online, I noticed hair loss was part of the package.
Needless to say, the hypo and various other med side effects can be confusing at times!
I would NEVER go back to Nature-Throid or Armour again, either. I LOVE NP Thyroid!! That little sweet taste and quick melting is such a treat. Wish it came in quarter grains, though. I am forced to go with Nature-Throid for 1/4 grains.
Would someone please tell me how to interpret Free T4?
Congratulations for taking your health seriously and getting what your body needs. Some of us will go any distance to get what we need. I flew to Univ of Pa from CA to have my meds straightened out. I only stayed there for 2 months, but came home with letter to my doc as to how to continue my treatment. My doc does TSH, and Free T -3 and 4. Reverse T is test we all need done. This test shows how much medication is in cells where it is utilized by body instead of in bloodstream. TSH indicates pituitary function, not thyroid function. I heard reverse test will be done soon by endos. I can't wait cause I am tired of feeling crumby.
The proper way to test your thyroid is to take medication, wait half hour and eat...than test. Thyroid = metabolism ( rate your body uses calories) If you don't test this way, your thyroid/metabolism is not being properly tested.

So glad you are doing so well and have someone listen to you! that makes all the difference in the world.
My TSH is bouncing between the .04 and .0169 each time it is one or the other. When you get to a certain point TSH is meaningless...you need to go by how you feel as well as the Free T4 and Free T3 tests.....

It's amazing that we have to change doctors just to get what is right for our bodies. It took 2 years of changing doctors before my daughter got one that actually listened and was finally tested and found out she had Hashimotos. Glad you are felling better.
I am so very happy for you! That is what we should be getting from our doctors! I finally had to go to a doctor two states away (1200 miles round trip) and pay cash since he doesn't take Medicare. He gave me a Rx for a year, too. It is worth it, however, to get the Rx dosage I need to feel good. My TSH score is just about the same as yours. Funniest thing! I can't get my regular doctor to understand that. She wants to test my TSH every 6 weeks and see me to get another prescription. Something just seems so wrong about that!
Maybe we could all switch to Mayo... Too bad you can't take your daughter along with you! Again, so happy that you are doing so much better and have a year before you have to fight this same battle again! Enjoy! ...Linda
For those of you who remember me. I wasn't getting much help from my endo but he did finally allow me to get on NP Thyroid as per PURRBALLS recommendation. I love it!! But my TSH went too low according to my endo who was not willing to cooperate with dosing.
I go to Mayo Clinic every six months for liver related issues and my Mayo doctor tests my thyroid each time I'm there. I had been complaining about my endo making me lower my dose because of my numbers and my Mayo doctor said, "Well, did you feel better on the dose you were on, before?" I said, "Yes!!" He said. "Just goes to show you how meaningless those numbers are! Go back to that dosage! " He gave me the dose I wanted, took over my NP Thyroid prescription and provided me with 11 refills. He trusts me not to take more than I should!
I haven't abused his trust and I must say I like his attitude.:o)
I feel very fortunate. I never got this kind of treatment from an endo. To think I got what I wanted from a liver specialist! Hey, wotever. I'm happy. And I'm feeling good, too! I have good emotional control, now, again, my "number" is .04 but I know it's a good place for me to be. It's so comforting to know there is someone out there who heard me and cares.
I still feel badly for my daughter who is still suffering as she goes to the same endo I did. He looks at her TSH and doesn't hear her, either.
