FranniePat~

Those carb blockers have been on the market for decades now.
I admit I tried them when they first came out, could not get thru the bottle because of the gas.

But that was 30 years ago... in the intervening decades, I've learnt to work with my body instead of against it.

And sadly that means what everyone's mom has told them: Eat your vegetables, study hard, and go outside and play!

Oy, I have become my mother!

Actually, I tried the carb blocker, but it really didn't seem to do anything, maybe more gas?

Ya, I hate to admit it but I definitely heart Dove Bars.
Unfortunately they sell them in triplets and the variety I crave, the chocolate's been alkali processed. Which means that anything virtuous about them is illusionary, sad to say!

FranniePat~

Wanted to compliment you on your home made carb blocker suggestion. Even though I would not personally take a carb blocker, its a creative solution and sounds a lot tastier!

I bought some dried hibicus a while back, and have made tea from it... its a lovely cranberry color when brewed and somewhat tart.

Here's a bit about hibicus flower tea, from those interested in learning more about its medicinal value:

I DEFINITELY agree with you, Mzz, especially about the Dove bars. We all know that chocolate has lot of good-for-you things in it, beside tasting scrumptious!!

Thanks, Sandy!

I have to agree with Jane... ugh!
Anything that interferes with natural digestion and assimilation of nutrients like a carb blocker is not for me... I'd just prefer not to save money by not eating as many carbs and spending the cash I'd save on something nice like a new item of clothing... um... or Dove Bars! hahahahaahah

I think you could just take white bean extract (carb blocker) cheap to get and drink hibiscus and green tea you make yourself and have the same results, spending a lot less money!

Hey Sandy!

This is what each 24-Day Challenge includes:

One box of Herbal Cleanse-Citrus
One bottle of OmegaPlex®
One box of AdvoCare Spark®-Mandarin Orange
One box of AdvoCare Spark®-Fruit Punch
Your choice of one box of Meal Replacement Shakes - Chocolate, Vanilla, or Berry
Your choice of one box of MNS® Max 3, C, or E

It doesn't include a carb blockers product as far as I can see. Which one is it?
Carb blocking... UGH! Good way to mess up your gut and become a mini-gas factory, eh?
Any product that blocks carbs, I would definitely come out against.

hey guys!

Horsechic, if you decide to do this, just follow the rule of taking your thryoid meds on an empty stomach, waiting 60 minutes before eating. There's iron and calcium in the meal replacement shake... 50% of your daily amount of calcium... ouch... and you're supposed to keep those two nutrients 4 hours away from thyroid hormones. So bear that in mind.

Incidentally combining iron and calcium in the same meal tends to bind each nutrient and make it unavailable to the body.

I hadn't heard of the Advocare line either, so I did some poking around their site to find out more about it.
Basically, its sold as a means to jump start your weight loss efforts, with $185.25 worth of supplements, vitamins, minerals, amino acids and enzymes, and meal replacement shakes to get you thru 24 days. Not sure if there's an additional shipping and handling fee. If there's no shipping and handling fees, that works out to about $7.72 a day.

The products are marketed thru distributers.

My concern with this line:
1.Those sold in the "ACTIVE" section, contain 120 mgs of caffiene, which is an amount found in a strong cup of brewed coffee.
2. That the type of sweetner in these products is not identified.
3. That the fruity drinks are artificially flavored
4. That many of the products contain zinc, which needs to be balanced by copper... which isn't listed as an ingredient in the products that contain the supplemental zinc. If you are thinking "well lack of copper isn't important to me", remember that its important to your skin, as its needed to make collagen... and if you are losing weight, loose skin is one of the less attractive by-products of weight loss.
5. Like with any other pre-packaged weight loss routine, there's no endgame... no way really to get off... unless you'd like to move on to some of their other products. Good for Advocare, bad for your wallet.

Me... I'd prefer to eat a healthy diet of natural foods prepared at home. To supplement vitamins, minerals, amino acids and oils to my diet on an as needed basis. And to work my body thru aerobix and weight lifting. This has proven to be a long term, sustainable lifestyle for me that has blessed me with good health aside despite my thyroid condition.

But that's my way... it may not be yours!
Let us know how it works for you if you decide to check it out.

HORSECHIC08, I looked up Advocare/scams on Google and it appears that if you want to pay full price for products, you are fine. If you want to get discounted products, you are pulled into a pyramid setup much like the companies most of us are familiar that sell vitamins and/or cleaning & household products.

I read a lot of reviews that said the product DOES work, but if you're not a gung-ho, go-for-it sales person, you shouldn't get into the selling program.

I went to the company's website and gleaned this information: For the products that claim to reduce the absorption of carbohydrates, the dosage to stated as 3-6 capsules before meals, but not to be used between meals or on an empty stomach.(confusing) It also states CAUTION: not to be used by pregnant or nursing women. Its key ingredients are L-arabinose, gymnema extract, dry bean extract, hibiscus extract, green tea extract, apple extract, but I take it that key ingredients are not ALL ingredients.
I couldn't find if the products would interfere with ANY meds, but that's not saying they won't.
