Horsechic, if you decide to do this, just follow the rule of taking your thryoid meds on an empty stomach, waiting 60 minutes before eating. There's iron and calcium in the meal replacement shake... 50% of your daily amount of calcium... ouch... and you're supposed to keep those two nutrients 4 hours away from thyroid hormones. So bear that in mind.
Incidentally combining iron and calcium in the same meal tends to bind each nutrient and make it unavailable to the body.
I hadn't heard of the Advocare line either, so I did some poking around their site to find out more about it.
Basically, its sold as a means to jump start your weight loss efforts, with $185.25 worth of supplements, vitamins, minerals, amino acids and enzymes, and meal replacement shakes to get you thru 24 days. Not sure if there's an additional shipping and handling fee. If there's no shipping and handling fees, that works out to about $7.72 a day.
The products are marketed thru distributers.www.advocare.com/products/trim/99038.aspx
My concern with this line:
1.Those sold in the "ACTIVE" section, contain 120 mgs of caffiene, which is an amount found in a strong cup of brewed coffee.
2. That the type of sweetner in these products is not identified.
3. That the fruity drinks are artificially flavored
4. That many of the products contain zinc, which needs to be balanced by copper... which isn't listed as an ingredient in the products that contain the supplemental zinc. If you are thinking "well lack of copper isn't important to me", remember that its important to your skin, as its needed to make collagen... and if you are losing weight, loose skin is one of the less attractive by-products of weight loss.
5. Like with any other pre-packaged weight loss routine, there's no endgame... no way really to get off... unless you'd like to move on to some of their other products. Good for Advocare, bad for your wallet.
Me... I'd prefer to eat a healthy diet of natural foods prepared at home. To supplement vitamins, minerals, amino acids and oils to my diet on an as needed basis. And to work my body thru aerobix and weight lifting. This has proven to be a long term, sustainable lifestyle for me that has blessed me with good health aside despite my thyroid condition.
But that's my way... it may not be yours!
Let us know how it works for you if you decide to check it out.
