Ok so today I have taken all my meds except the Synthroid and my stomach is doing much better. This morning was a little rough but after lunch it's great and no pain after eating,I will continue to keep you posted but right now I feel like a new person.

Angie,

Levo is not always consistent because it's made by different companies and can, by law, vary in potency by company. That's why many doctors insist on brand names, and why we decided on Levoxyl instead of Levothyroxine.

Sandy,
Thank you so much, I have not taken my meds this morning and my stomach is doing fine, and I don't plan to take my Synthroid today at all. Now if I sleep tonight then I guess I will know. I have done some research and noticed others with stomach problems on Synthroid, did not have this while on my Levothroxin but my doctor (who I love )she is great just was wanting me to get the best treatment and she thought this was best for me.

Hi Angie,

I had chronic insomnia with Synthroid. I now take Armour, but when my frees got messed up recently, my Dr wanted me to supplement the Armour with some Synthroid. I said NO WAY, so we decided on Levoxyl and that hasn't bothered be at all.

Hi MZZCHIEF,
Yes I do have some Levo left ,should I wait a day or two to take this ? I make sure to use distilled water after reading your post on the chlorine and iron in water. Yes my dose was raised but not by much my doctor wanted to start me out slow to adjust. The sleep thing I can deal with the stomach pain I can't, it sure did make work rough the last 3 days. But I will call the doctors office and if nothing else leave a message for her.
Thanks MzzChief, as always you are there for us.

hey Angie!

Sorry you are having problems with Synthroid.
Sounds just awful.

There are a few things in the base of Synthroid, Povidone which is a type of iodine, Acacia which is a gum from a tree and Lactose, a milk sugar. All are there in small quantities, but if you have allergy to them, then its possible you'll have a reaction.

You might want to go back to Levothyroxine and take it with a 8oz glass of distilled water combined with a tiny amount of C. Distilled water because you might have a high amount of calcium, chlorine or iron in your water which will keep your meds from being absorbed properly, and C because it helps levothyroxine be absorbed more readily into the intestines.

You didn't say whether or not you your dosage was raised.
If it was raised and you started getting more thyroid hormone in your blood, it might cause sleep disturbances until your body adjusts.

Definitely call the doc... do you have any of the levothyroxine left?

If so I'd stop the Synthroid and go back to the Levothyroxine to see if your symptoms cease.
Don't wait until Tuesday to call... Monday's a holiday of course and sometimes doc's will take a long weekend...

Let us know what happens!

I didn't have any problems. Calling your Dr. (or leaving a message for the nurse) is a good idea in my opinion. I've been on both with no such symptoms.

I will call on Tuesday, but I will not take my meds tomorrow and see if it helps. Wow this is awful as bad as the hypo systems . I had no stomach problems on the Levothyroxin, maybe time to go back to it.

Call your doctor. If you are having a reaction to the synthroid each dose you take can make it worse.

I may not be there yet but I'm closer than I was yesterday.

I got tired of starting over and working back to where I was, so I have stopped giving up!

Ann

I started Synthroid 1 week ago, I was on Levothyroxin before this but my TSH levels went higher so my doctor wanted to try Synthroid. So have been on for one week and three days ago I started to have stomach problems, very distended stomach along with pain and I get this with every thing I eat or drink including water even makes my stomach hurt. Has anyone else had this problem? Also need to add that I also started with sleeping problems 3 days ago about the same time the stomach problems started.
