JoAnn, I love visiting Allair. My DH and I keep talking about going during the holidays but we haven't made it there yet. I really need to set a date and just go. Thanks for the comments!!

I was at Allair State Park yesterday and for those who may not know they do a Santa with the train ride, it was awesome and the kids as well as us adults loved it!

Good morning,

Linda I see your post there and I am headed there next. My recent posts show on my start page on the right, if you have a problem just email me and I will send a link.

The weather is bad down here too, I went to check the ocean yesterday and the waves were growing. Not park weather here in NJ today.

Hi everyone!

This weather is horrendous. I don't think I can handle another dreary day.

JoAnn... I posted on the other thread. I hope I don't lose it like I did with most of the other threads.

I found out there's yoga classes at my gym. As soon as I get the ok from my p/t, I'll be checking it out.

Off to do a little mall shopping...

Linda

Hi,

I hear you about the knees, I had a series of five shots that are made in the chicken lol I should have had the chicken for dinner with all the help it gave me. People say it helps, but it didn't for me. If they give you exercises for the knee they help more. Spark has some good ones for knees!

Most of my exercise is going to doctors this week for my husband, I just got on my bike for 10 mins because I have done nothing. I am very tired lately, going to thyroid specialist again Nov 6.

Good seeing you gals! Linda we have a board going but I forget the name, I will get back in or email you with it.

Oh I think the beginners Yoga is great. It is not stressful on the joints. What is great is if the group does something which I can't fully do, I take it as far as I can and it is still helpful. It's a lot of nice stretching and meant for all ages. I have a mat now and follow a small simple guide with some exercises in it, this was in one of my magazine's, not sure which since I get a few different ones.

I wonder if SP has it, I will have to check it out. emoticon

The Yoga here at the resort is more for non-beginners. But again, I do what I can.

Oh Linda, so sorry to hear about your knee pain. I hope the rehab sessions will help you to recover. Arthritis effects my knees & hips, also other areas. Not sure what can help. Trying to lose, trying yoga also but it's once a week at my library.

Hope everyone can get as close to feeling 100% as possible!!
Take care,

Hi JoAnn!!

Where have you been?!? I envy your walking trails. I haven't been doing much walking lately since hurting my knee at the gym. An old knee injury flared up and now I am going thru three rehab sessions a week to try to take of this problem once and for all. I just can't handle the pain anymore.

Other than that... all is well. How about you?

Hey my two favorite ladies, Good Morning!

This is not a state park, but we have this incredible lake a few minutes from my house, it has the usual swimming areas but they made walking trails that go all around the lake and put in little exercise and stretching areas along the way, it is really great and when I am done I sit by the lake and read for a while. This is beautiful weather to get out and walk!

Hi All....I'm doing a small walk tomorrow at Johnson Park in Piscataway to benefit Children with special needs. It's called 'Walk 'n Roll', we had a choice ofa 1 mile, 2.5 mile or a 5 mile. We chose the 1 mile due to arthritis, can't do more than I think 1 1/2 miles!
But it should be fun, there's a carnival after it for the crowd.

Take care and enjoy the weekend!

I'm personally a big fan of the Delaware & Raritan Canal State Park. It's just beautiful, and the towpath is a great place to walk, bike, or canoe. Normally I walk the towpath in Franklin since it's nearest to my house, but this weekend DH and I took our dog out to Frenchtown to walk along the towpath right alongside the Delaware, and we all had a great time.

I love love love Allaire State Park.
They are having events more frequently because the wonderful state of NJ has decided to no longer fund the Historic Village. Its now being completely run by volunteers trying to keep it open.

If you're in the area take a trip to Allaire.

Mercer COunty Park is technically a state park, they have a marina with rental canoes and paddle boats, picnic areas, trails for biking, running, and hiking, an ice rink, tennis courts... I forget what else.

There's a battlefield in Princeton, which is just like, a huge open field, there's one closer to the PA border - Washington's Crossing that has hiking trails, picnic areas, play areas, etc.

Allaire Park is nice. Other historic places would be Batsto Village (Batsto) and Colts Spring (in Cape May).

Not a state park but definitly worth the visit is Grounds for Sculpture in Trenton-beautiful.

Our 6th graders just went to NJ Battleship? It's near the Camden Aquarium-again -worth visiting.

Sandy Hook is very popular with New Jerseans. Also, if you are into boating there is a great location in Sussex/Morris County it's called "Hopatcong State Park" You can swin, BBQ, go on trails in the woods and the lake is beautiful. For those that have boats we have quite a few marinas here. The weather here is quite nice it's not as humid as South New Jersey. If anyone is interested it's easy to get here just take any major road that comects to 80 West and then jsut drive to Exit 28 and you will see signs to the state park.

Allaire State Park is really nice, it has a little old time village and plenty of space to walk and ride a bike, it has picnic tables and then you can ride on the train! Once in a while they have special craft shows etc!

I've also heard there's a really nice historic park in Princeton (haven't been there but heard a lot of nice things about it).

Oh and Echo Lake Park AND Watchung Reservation in Union County are really nice too. When we lived in Union County with little ones, we used to go to both places quite often.

I LOVE Sandy Hook - I'm with you Rolland. However another favorite is Hacklebarney State Park (Warren, Morris - not sure which - I always go the back through Tewksbury). Also, never been there but planning to visit Delaware River Gap in Warren County. I've heard its an awesome place to hike.

When I was a teen my family used to go for a week to Parvin State Park. There on the lake were cabins with either a fireplace or pot belly stove. Bunk beds in 2 rooms. Peace and quiet. We used to rent out a rowboat, which I loved.

This past weekend we walked the Liberty Walk at Liberty State Park in Jersey City, NJ. Then we took the Ferry at the end of the walk to Ellis Island and walked around there.

Does anyone have any recommendations for other State Parks we should visit in New Jersey? We're willing to travel anywhere in the state.
