Hello everyone, Marge from Iselin (in Middlesex County near Edison & Metuchun). I've just read the prior posts & do wish things get a lot better for you. I don't know how long schools were closed here. I live on the second floor of a three story building. Other than having no power as like many others, I'm very fortunate in that my abode is still intact. My other issue was that both my toilets clogged. I was able to take care of one & a friend fixed the other for me. I don't get out much & by the time I went out after Sandy had hit & then it snowed a bit the main roads were pretty clear. I lost my power again a few days ago but had it back by later that evening. I do wish all much luck & that things are all back to their pre-Sandy sooner rather than later for all of you. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

the demolition is starting on the downstairs of my house. The whole main floor is being gutted.

What a project.

We got 6 inches of snow which melted by the next day. All is pretty well here. We went back to school today after 2 weeks off which was rough on the kids in my class. I work in Special Ed and any change in routine can be disastrous. Hopefully things will get as normal as possible very soon!

We were out for a week last week. My daughter donated food and other supplies to the shelters and other places for people who were displaced by Hurricane Sandy and I donated money to Red Cross.

Those of us whose lives were merely disrupted by the storm have not forgotten those of you whose lives were turned over. There are lots of drives going on for food, clothing, supplies to go out to the shore towns. Be safe.

Good luck to all during the Nor'Easter! Be safe!
We are being voluntarily evacuated at this time, but again we are not leaving. We went shopping on Monday night and got everything but milk and eggs and batteries. Pretty much everything else was available. I couldn't get candles either, unless you count the two Glade 4 oz candles I got. They are great for lighting the bathroom but not much else!

Hi, I live in Jamesburg. Just got my power back this afternoon. Did have it for a few hours on Saturday, but went out again. My son, who also lives in town, got his power back on Sat, with no more outages, as well as other parts of town. Schools reopen tomorrow.

Transformers were exploding around me on last Monday, also. Trees were down all round. Roads were closed because of downed trees. Thompson Park was a mess. At one place, it looked like bunch of dominos had been knocked over. Went to the local Stop&Shop over the weekend and there were no meats or dairy products in the store. Only eggs. That I have never seen before.

It is so good to be home again. Stayed three nights with my mother and sisters in New Brunswick. They didn't lose power, only their cable. Came back Saturday to power, only to lose it again early Sunday morning. Then stayed with my son till today. emoticon

Praying this Nor'easter will not cause any power outages again. This has truly been an adventure for all of us here on the east coast. Prayers go out to all who have lost so much. But, know that Everything is going to be alright. We are a strong people and we will bounce back.

Blessings to all.

Schools in Jersey City where I teach are still closed. We were very fortunate to only lose power for brief periods. We had no cable or internet until Friday evening. I live in Howell which was a mess. Most of the town just got power back. I continue to pray for all those whose lives have been deeply affected by the storm and pray that we don't get any more severe weather.

Abundant Blessings, Dee

The pictures are very sad. I am back to work today & have access to internet (real internet - not just spotty smartphone internet). My building in Piscataway unfortunately can't get back on-line so we are working out of a hotel in New Brunswick today.

Also, unfortunately, back home in Monmouth County my house still has no power or running water (we're on a well which requires an electric pump). There's still a JCPL pole lying horizontally across our street & 2 trees that snapped near their bases and are being held up only by the power lines that they are leaning (very precariously) just 2 houses down, so the outlook isn't good. We're really hoping that power comes back this week.

Fingers crossed for power or warmer temperatures - - - Really looking forward to flushing toilets in my future.

My least favorite part of having power is the access to all of the pictures. I prefer my own little bubble here in town, that is bad enough. The pictures are killing me, esp the Mantaloking Bridge which is right up the road from me. It's just devastating!

I live in Livingston (Essex Cty). We got our power back around 6:30 last night (Sat). Just seemed awful slow to return. My mother lives in Glen Rock (Bergen Cty), and she is still without power. It is only now, after not having watched any TV for almost a week, that I am seeing exactly how awful this storm was, especially in NY. My heart goes out to all those affected and all those still without power, because it sure is cold.

Sunday Novemer 9. Long Valley is still a mess. No flooding damage, wind damage. We lost 5 beautiful mighty oaks, at least 3 pines and a cherry tree all ripped out of the ground. Wires, sheared poles and exploded transformers still litter everywhere. Lots f. Detours. No power for 98% of us.
We are fine and thankful. Wednesday the 7th is predicted for our power. The darn storm weather map showed as not getting the brunt of the storm. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by Sandy. M

Am from Millstone Boro (not the township - yep, there are *two* Millstones in NJ!) - got power back yesterday evening around 7:30 after having lost it Monday evening, also about 7:30PM. Wasn't a rainmaker (our basement was bone dry), but the house (and especially *trees*) - well, that's another story altogether!

I don't like to use the term "ground zero" since that term has a special connotation that I do not wish to use to describe the situation; I think the phrase "war zone" would be a more fitting description.......two very large trees went down during the height of the rains, with one falling across the front yard and the other blocking the rear entranceway (front entrance was OK).....when looking over the one tree it really looked like one of the family vehicles "bought the farm", but as it turned out it was really nothing more than the pine branches hanging from the piece of tree that fell......all vehicles are fine (whew)!

Actually did manage to get a generator Thursday - and used it for only a few hours before we got our juice back!

At least now I can get back to my - sigh - *job search*.....!

Hope that all fellow Sparkies are hanging in there!

Hi Sparkers, I am in West Windsor, Mercer county where we had tons of wind damage. 3 houses on my street hit by trees and my neighbor to the back badly damaged by 100' oak hitting house, fortunately they are ok. I was lucky, no damage, just lots of debris to clean up. No power due to tress and wires down on my street and both side streets. there is only one way in and out of neighborhood. I did however see tree removed that was blocking a four lane major road in town, so maybe they'll get to us soon. I have stayed nights with a friend in Lawrenceville for hot food hot shower and internet. I will stoke up the wood stove today to warm up the place as much as possible since will get cold tonite. Will probably have power back at my office bldg by Monday. All that said my heart goes out to people from the shore communities that have been so hard hit.

The roads to my work opened up yesterday so that was my first day back to work since the storm. Today, the work crews are at the house removing the fallen trees and the remains of the garage. (A cautious endeavor considering we had gas for the generator and the propane tank on the grill that was trapped inside!) We're already planning the replanting of trees this spring. They are so very vital to the eco system and the animals in our yard. My SO still has no power at work so has been on an extended time off. Hopefully they'll have it back on over the weekend. The subdivisions around us got their power back finally! Now we don't have to feel like an island in a sea of dark anymore. As of yesterday, there is a forecast for a nor'eastern to hit us sometime the middle of next week. It won't be anywhere near as bad as this one was but since so many are already suffering in ways most can only imagine, it will be another piece of the nightmare for them. Some of our friends still have no power and the temps are dropping lower every day. My SO's music gig was cancelled for Saturday, the venue still has no power. Slowly but surely life is trying to get back to normal, or as normal as it can be. I'm still amazed that there was no hurricane warning for areas north of North Carolina issued by the National Hurricane Center. Makes me wonder how much tragedy might have been avoided had people been made more aware of how dangerous the situation was.

Brielle--- more wind damage, trees downb around our neighborhood than anything else. Roads are crazy all over the state.... can only make right turns as they block off cross streets. Hard to make enough rights from the shore to go north or west without bumping into another blocked road. I felt like I was running a maze. No power and no cell phone/internet connection. 2 nights of cold, and we threw in the towel and moved to happier ground in PA. Where we are now only had power outtage for 24 hrs.

yesterday, roads are starting to open up and as traffic lights come back on, the cross streets are opening up too.

Best of everything to everyone out there!!

Our power just came on about an hour ago! SO excited, and scrambling around to get everything cleaned up and ready just in case they have to turn it back off. There are alot of fires in my neighborhood the last few days and if this last one is related to the power, they will turn it back off.

I'm also in Point Pleasant Boro. We got power back today. :) Other than some minor fence damage and a few inches of water in my car, we made out well. Feel sooooo bad for those who've lost their homes, most or all of their stuff, or loved ones. So much flooding.

I am in point Boro, using my phone on th car to type so please excuse typos! No power and maybe none for days. No damage, we have hot water and the toilet flush. We play a lot of monopoly and D&D lol. I ran yesterday and did some push ups and will run today. Our area is devastated, so much washed away I hate to go outside and see it all! No school which means no work to distract me! Hope everyone is well!

Trees down everywhere, transformers exploded all around, power lines down, flooding all over, roads closed, driving bans, even a few walking bans, but we're alright. Somehow we managed to not lose power and the basement didn't flood. No work today, can't even get down the road to where it is. Phone lines down and cell phone service disrupted. Trying to get in touch with friends and can't get through to make sure they're ok. Been watching the news, it's horrific. My heart goes out to everyone affected.

We have been safe. A lot of wind and rain. I just realized that the wind was not blowing! Unfortunately my DH has to be at work at 7 AM. I do not go in tomorrow. Our power has blinked a few times and the internet was out most of the evening, finely back up. I hope that we can all sleep tonight and find that things are not awful in our back yards. Everyone, please stay safe, both tonight and in the clean up to come.

We've lost more trees, (we had lots of gorgeous centurion oaks and stately tall pines), not sure exactly which ones we lost. It's too dark to see well, but we know at least two pines and one oak. Our neighbor lost a pine as well. We still have power and the basement is still dry Saw the flashes of transformer explosions a little while ago. The storm has upset the animals in our yard. The Raccoon lost his home when the garage was lost. (He lived behind it!) Our squirrels will be homeless as well. The house is shaking from the wind. We're hunkered down and staying glued to the news and weather reports. Oops, there goes another blue flash. Must be a power line somewhere getting ripped off a pole. The news says the worst of the wind is upon us now and is to stay for another potential 4 hours. Better hit post before we lose power. Our thoughts and hopes are with all affected. Good luck!

lots of downed trees here, and the transformer up the street is on fire and the power keeps blinking out. We have a candle lit in every room just in case and flashlights everywhere. The kids are starting to get grumpy, but we are really lucky so far! a fence piece fell over and that is about it. Lots of flooding in our area, houses being destroyed, trees falling on houses, and the power has blinked twice while i typed this up. Hoping it comes back on long enough for me to click send!

We are safe and I have NOT strangled Mr Stormwatcher who has TOTALLY driven me nutz all day with non-stop reporting. UGH!!!

Reports of a lot of power outages and trees down in local area but so far we safe, dry and powered up, listening to the Howling and even seeing lighting.

Truly sad at the tremendous destruction at the beaches. Unbelieveable.

We just lost a beautiful pine. She fell on the garage and took that out. Thank goodness I heard the trunk crack and my SO was able to move his car out of the way before she came down. Otherwise, it would have taken out his car. And just think, Sandy isn't even here yet...

We're in Mercer County. At work today and am glad all our prep is done and we are as ready as we can be. Batteries, radio, nonperishable foods, water, blankets, generator, gas, cash, etc., all taken care of. Outdoor stuff all secured, gutters cleaned out, storm windows down, contact lists handy and everything all charged up. Stopping at the store tonight on the way home just to pick up a few snack type foods my SO wants. Anticipating power outages cause we get them all the time. I've been watching the traffic at the gas stations and the grocery store today,, It's crazy how people wait until the last minute to do what they should have done days ago especially since it's so much easier to do when you don't have to cry or fight over that last pack of d cells or case of water.

We get back our mete as we measure....

we are South West across from Philadelphia. Just saw that our schools are also closed for 2 days - guessing it is a statewide decision. Actually just got a generator, believe it or not. We have wanted one for awhile anyway because of water issues in the basement. We will now leave for vacation next week with ease knowing that we have a backup if the basement floods.

I live in NW NJ. We are closed for Monday and Tuesday. I work for a social services agency. Have been working on prep for community all afternoon.

Our schools closed in Point for Monday and Tuesday. My neighborhhod is under voluntary evacuation now, may go mandatory tomorrow, because I ive South of Bridge Ave. My inlaws just left, they live in Point Beach.
We are staying no matter what.
On our way to 7-11 to get some snacks and some chocolate chips to make cookies, lol.
Got my 3.6 mile run in this morning and my daughter and I will play Just Dance on the Wii so longer as the power stays on.
Be safe all~
