With all the goodies that are brought in, it is the time when it is easiest to slack off, but I ahve a goal to reach by CHriatmas and New Years so I need to focus and keep it!

One bite, one day, one pound at a time. Remember you are worth the effort!

I usually get those feelings right around this time. But, I try to get myself to the gym, and once I'm there, I'm usually happy I went.

Well Team, I think it is safe to say that all of us go through a "slacker" period now and again. I think it is a way of refreshing our resolve to get back on track as we know we should. As long as I don't get totally decadent, I don't beat myself up over it. You shouldn't either!

Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities have crept in. Forget them as soon as you can. RWEmerson

I know this link has been quiet for awhile but I feel the need to confess that I have been a terrible slacker for the last 4 days. Gotta get back on track today.

I shouldn't have said anything about NOT slacking. I have not been on my elliptical in 4 days. Tomorrow I am back on track

Hey Tamar!

I get so tired too! My work days are 14+ hours (including commuting), so I know how it is. If you can get up an hour early and take a brisk walk, or do low impact exercises at home after work and leave the tough stuff for the other days you have more time. What about running around with the kids more? Participating in their activities? This will improve your energy and keep you on track if you can add more exercise. You can do it!

I was a bit of a slacker over the weekend too. But even with the kids home Friday and Monday I did manage to stay on track with exercise. Yesterday I did 40 min onmy elliptical. The longest I have ever done! I am having more trouble with the food. Not cuz of lack of will power but finding the time to get to the store to have healthy stuff in the house. I can put a little of the blame on the snow and V-Day for that. I finally got some fruit yesterday and am heading downstairs to "the gym"

Anyone got some new stories for this thread? I didn't go to the gym all this week, Tuesday-snow, Thursday-Valentine's, Saturday-SLACKER. Anyone got some good advice?

back when i wasn't working out so much, i found it motivating (and still do when i have one of your off days) that i could accomplish some form of activity.. whether it be 60 minutes or 20 minutes or 5.. i could then look back and be proud of accomplishing the task in such a small amount of time.. it works for me no matter how long or short the task took.. it's not a matter of fighting through it - it's a matter of accomplishment.. there's this buddhist proverb (i think) that fits the bill (and if i totally butcher it, someone please correct me): "the molehill doesn't build itself.. "

there's nothing you can't accomplish (even when you don't want to).. take small steps.. then look back and be proud of the distance you travelled..

I really don't lose motivation, some days when I'm not really in the mood, I just tell myself a little lie, like I only have to do 20 minutes or just part of my lifting, etc, and then of course once I'm there I do the whole thing. I just keep reminding myself of how healthy I'm getting and of course the results always boost me up. The most important thing is to push through with the exercise, any exercise is better than nothing, and do it for at least 20 minutes, that's about how long it takes for the endorphins to kick and make you feel better, that in itself is motivation enough to keep everything on track.

I give myself rewards when I do it right and "punishments" when I don't. I put that in quotes because you don't want to ACTUALLY punish yourself. For example: if I do all the exercise I'm supposed to or stay in my calories, then I'll spend a little extra time in front of the TV (i love shows, i'm addicted). If I don't make those goals, then I will not watch any TV (which also in turn gives me time to exercise). Find things that you can reward yourself for a job well done (not junk food). If that doesn't work think about the things and people in your life that are important and how being unhealthy will affect those relationships. A healthy life is a happy life! In college my girlfriends and I would put up pictures of the bodies we wanted. Although they were pretty unrealistic, it gave us that extra push to get our butts up and to the gym. There is a section here in SP about visual motivators (I think where you see your Spark Points) and that may be helpful. I also have my goal weight hung up in my office to remind me of what I'm doing all this for.

WHEW! Excuse the long-windedness...

Personaly, I just fight through it, or force myself to do it. Everyone has an off day. Don't beat yourself up. At least you realized it, and are back on the wagon. Keep at it. I'm here if you need to talk, or need help.

so, last week thru-sat, i was a totally slacker, i didnt feel like working out and i didnt feel like tracking my food, i just felt BLAH. Sometimes i feel like i lose motivation over stupid stuff, like a pair of pants i want to fit.. wont. or a comment someone makes which should give me more motivation.. ends up depressing me. (ill explain someday soon in another thread) I dont know why i got this way, but luckly i jumped back on the ship this week, what does everyone else do when they lose motivation?
