A word from the Word
January 30 - - - Altar of salvation

I would like to tell you of the first altar I built. That was the day I asked Jesus to come into my life and to be my Lord and Savior.

I have always known about God as long as I can remember. I believed that if I was good that God loved me and if I was bad that God did not love me. I believed that if I lived a good life and asking God to forgive me when I sinned then I would go to heaven. I believed that if I was bad and sinned then I would be going to hell.

Based on what I believed I lived one day going to heaven and other days going to hell. So one day, looking at my life I came to a decision that I was going to hell more days than I was going to heaven. So I decided, why should I even try – it was obvious that I was going to hell. There was no way I was going to make it into heaven.

So I stopped, I stopped praying, I stopped going to church but I don't think I ever stopped believing in God. I just felt that I could never be good enough for God to love me.

Then one day a friend invited me to his church. We need to invite friends to church. I hate to think where I would be if my friend Larry had not invite me to his church.

That night at church I met God at that first altar. I had known about God but I had never really met God, big difference between knowing about God and knowing God. I knelt before God at my first altar and give myself to Him. I simply asked Jesus to come into my life.

I prayed this prayer. I prayed Lord I need to talk to you. Lord you know what I am and you know I’ve tried to be the person you would have me to be many times and each time I failed. So the only think I can do is to tell you that if you can do anything with me – if you can change me then I give you permission to do so. Lord I give myself to you.

And what do you think happened? Jesus did. Jesus came into my life that night and He did change me. I became that new person. That night Jesus wrote my name in the Lambs Book of Life.

I met Jesus at that first altar at that altar of salvation.

------------

Pray for our Churches. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that marriages and family relationships throughout the congregation will be strengthened.

January 28 - - - The altar of God

Psalm 43:4 Then will I go unto the altar of God, unto God my exceeding joy: yea, upon the harp will I praise thee, O God my God.

We don't use the term altar much anymore. We don't talk about the altar in the church. We don't talk about the altar in the home. We talk about everything today except the altar.

An altar is that place where you meet with God. It could be a bench in back of the building. It could be a chair in your room. It could be a place at the foot of your bed.

Everyone needs an altar in their life. That place where you meet with God. That place where you can be away from the world and alone with God. In the Gospel of Matthew the altar is called a prayer closet.

Matthew 6:6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly

The good news bible says it like this. “But when you pray, go to your room, close the door, and pray to your Father, who is unseen. And your Father, who sees what you do in private, will reward you”.

I love that - - - Go to your room, close the door, and spend time with God.

------------

Pray for our Churches. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. 2 Chronicles 714 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

January 27 - - Put your trust in the Lord

Proverbs 3:5-6 5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

I once saw a picture of a street sigh showing two directions. One direction was marked MY WAY and the other direction was marked GODS WAY. We often come to this place in our lives. A place when we must choose which direction we are going to go.

Proverbs 14:12 There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death. Trusting on your own understanding is not always the best way to go. The Word of God tells us that we are to 5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; - - - -. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

We are faith people and we don’t base our life on “our own understanding”. We place our trust in the Lord and acknowledge Him as God who will show us and direct us on the right path.

Don’t you just love the Word of God?

January 26 - - Jesus said “I am come that you might life”

John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

“The thief cometh not, but to steal”. How does the devil go about doing this? He does this by destroying the moment we are living now.

The only moment that is alive is the moment that we are living now. The moment that we just lived is gone and the moment we are about to live has not yet been birthed so the only moment that is alive is the now moment and it is the only moment that counts.

So how does the devil steal the moment we are living now? He does it by worry or guilt. Worry is being anxious about what might happen tomorrow. So we destroy the now moment by worrying about something that most likely will not even happen.

The other way the devil steals the now moment is guilt. Looking back and seeing things in the past that we have done wrong or have wronged another person. We can do nothing about yesterday. Yesterday is gone and we need to put it away. Ask God to forgive you and then forgive yourself.

The only moment that is alive in the now moment. Don’t let the devil have it. Turn your eyes upon Jesus and take that abundant life that Jesus is offering you. Jesus said “I am come that they might have life and that they might have it more abundantly”.

January 25 - - A Spiritual Mind is a Happy Mind

Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Happiness comes from having our mind filled with the right thoughts. If we fill our minds with gloom despair and agony on me then you will have gloom despair and agony on me.

If we are always looking at what we don't have then we will never have what we should have.

Paul tells us in Philippians 4:8 Think on those things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely and of good report. If there be any virtue, praise, think on these things.

In other words “you are what you think”

January 24 - - Happiness is

Psalm 40:16 Let those that seek (God) rejoice and be glad.

When I turn on the T V I am told that if we buy this make of car I will be happy. If I eat this certain hamburger I will be happy. If I wash my hair with this shampoo I will be happy. Will I have new for you this has nothing to do with being happy this has to do with selling merchandise.

Happiness Comes From Inner Contentment. Abraham Lincoln said, "People are about as happy as they make up their minds they want to be" Someone else once said, "No man is happy who does not want to be" It's not the place or the condition, but it is the mind alone that make a person happy or unhappy.

The Bible tell us that happiness can be found in our relationship with Jesus. That when we enter into that perfect relationship with Jesus we will have that inner peace that brings about happiness.

“Let those that seek (God) rejoice and be glad”.

January 23 - - As for as the east is from the west

Psalm 103:12 As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

Yesterday we spoke of God remembering our sins no more. Today I would like to look at the fact that God separates us from our confessed sins as for as the east is from the west.

At the time that this was written only God know that the world was round or I should say a globe. So no one had the knowledge to know that the east would never meet the west. You can travel east forever and never meet the west. Not so with the north and the south. If you were to travel north when you reach the North Pole you are no longer be traveling north now you are traveling south or I could say north has meet the south.

How did the author of this Psalm know this if it had not been given to him by the Holy Spirit?

God did not say that He separates us from our confessed sin as for as the north is from the south He said as for as the east is from the west.

How awesome is this?

January 22 - - God does and does not remember!

Genesis 8:1 - - "But God remembered Noah and all the animals in the boat."

I like this "But God remembered" but there are times when God does not remember. It tells me that God does not remember our sin once we have asked forgiveness. It tells me in Hebrews 8:12 12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.

God will never bring your confessed sin to remembrance. If I were to ask God about a sin of yesterday He would tell me that He does not knew what I am talking about. God does this because He chooses too.

But here in this scripture God choose to remember. Noah did as God had commanded and God chose to remember Noah’s obedience.

What has God chosen to remember about us?

January 21 - - God is not deaf

Isaiah 65 v 24 And it shall come to pass, that before they call I will answer and while they are yet speaking I will hear.

There were these two boys who lived with their Grandma. They were about to go to bed but before they went to sleep the two of them prayed. The older son prayed about the day he had and about everything he had done. The younger son then started to pray, he prayed much louder than his elder brother, he prayed for bikes and toys, and when he finished the older brother asked him "Why are you praying so loud? God is not deaf" and the younger son responded by saying" Yea but Grandma is" (author unknown)

Well Grandma might not be able to hear very well but God hears every prayer that is prayed.

"God always listens whenever we pray,
He's never too busy to hear what we say.

January 20 - - Knowing the Word of God

Matthew 22:29 Jesus replied, You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God.

Just how important is it for us to know the Word of God? It says here in this scripture that in order to know the power of God it is important to know the Word of God. How can we live and move in God’s power if we do not know God’s Word?

2Ti 3:16 -17 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

January 19 - - God is our buckler

Proverbs 2:7 He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.

This is a very interesting verse especially the last part. “He (God) is a buckler to them that walk uprightly”. To understand this we must first know what a buckler is.

A buckler is a hook found on the side of a warriors shield. It is place their so that the warrior can hook his shield onto his fellow warriors shield. When this was done among a group of warriors it formed a wall of protection.

It says “God is a buckler to them that walk uprightly”. I can’t think of any one I would rather have my shield hooked on to them the almighty God.

The word almighty means full of all might.

January 18 - - Visions and Dreams

Act 2:17 - - - And your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

When I was young I had all kinds of visions. I had a vision that I would have a family and a good job. That I would do well in my job and someday become the boss or maybe have a business of my own. That’s what young people do, they have visions.

But I am not young anymore, now I’m the old man and I no longer have a vision. I now have dreams. I spend most of my time dreaming about how it was when I was young. Dreaming of the good times and the bad times. Am I the only one that does this dreaming?

But we have to be careful about dreaming. It can sometimes bring us to a place where we no longer have a vision. We often begin to think that we no longer have a future that life is over.

God did say that old men would dream dreams but He did not say we could not still have a vision.

Proverbs 29:18 “Where there is no vision, the people perish”

So if you are young continue to have your vision and if you are old continue to have your vision.

See you in church

January 17 - - God knows what is best for us

Acts 3:6 Peter said [to the man], "I have no silver or gold, but what I have I give you; in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, stand up and walk.

"WHEN my children were young and wanted a toy, I often heard, "But I need it!" As children of our heavenly Father, we are no different. Sometimes what we think we want is not at all what we need.

The beggar who was laid at the temple gate thought his greatest need was money. He had been crippled since birth and had no way to earn income for life's necessities. So, he begged for money.

Had Peter and John given the man money, his immediate need would have been met, but his life would not have changed. The next day he would have been back at the gate again, begging. Instead, God saw the man's real need -- his need for physical and spiritual healing. The beggar left the gate that day a changed man, praising God. He could walk! He received not what he asked for but what he needed.

Our heavenly Father often goes beyond what we ask. He gives us what we need and not what we want.

January 16 - - Mercy not Justice

Psalm 17:1 - LORD, hear my plea for justice. Listen to my cry for help.

The New Covenant is a cry for mercy not justice. Jesus keep the law for us therefore we have been Justified – Just as if we had never sinned.

That word justice frightens the dickens out of me. Romans 6:23 tells me that the wages of sin is death so a cry for justice is a cry for death but Romans 6:23 also speaks of the grace of God when it tells me “the gift of God is eternal life in the Lord Jesus Christ”.

The word grace means a gift. If I work for it then it is no longer grace but a wage and the wage always calls for justice and the justice for the wage of sin is always death.

So my cry is not for justice but for mercy and this mercy is found in the Lord Jesus Christ. When you receive Jesus into your life by faith you are receiving the mercy of God because “the gift of God is eternal life in the Lord Jesus Christ”.

January 15 - - God is Pure Light

James 1:17 "Whatever is good and perfect comes to us from God above, who created all heaven's lights. Unlike them, God never changes or casts shifting shadows."

The first thing we see in this verse is that “whatever is good and perfect comes from God”. That means that whatever is not good and perfect does not come from God. If it does not come from God where does it come from? I think we all know the answer to this. So why do we keep blaming God for things that keep happening in our lives.

Romans 8:1 for there is there for now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. It also tells me in James 1:17 ----God, never changes or casts shifting shadows."

Think about it - God is a God of no shadows, Pure light Unchanging light. I like the thought of God having no shadows... Of course, this also means we can't hide from God in His shadow! He knows and sees everything we do.

Praise God for his unchanging, un-shadowed pure Light! The light that shows us the things of God and the way of eternal life.

January 14 - - Jesus is the light of the world

John 8:12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

If I were to try to remove all the darkness from a room I would not use a bucket, scooping up the darkness and throwing it out a window. That is not how you would remove darkness from a room. The same thing holds true for sin in our lives. No matter how hard I try I cannot rid sin from my life.

How do you remove darkness from a room? Yes - - you turn on the light. The same is true with our lives. If you want to remove sin from our lives you turn Jesus on “THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD.

In the same way light has power over darkness Jesus has power over the darkness of sin.

January 13 - - Disagree and still be friends

Ephesians 4:29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

Can two people disagree and still be friends? I believe the answer is yes. If this were not true then I believe we would have no friends at all because I am sure that each of us disagrees on something.

Sometimes this is the reason a person tries to tear a person down. If two disagree it most likely one of them are wrong. I have been wrong many times. I have changed my thinking on things many times. Why not instead of becoming upset and trashing someone simply because you disagree with them why not pray for them.

Prayer has the power to do two things. It has the power to change the person were praying for and it also has the power to change the person that is praying.

January 12 - - God is my strength

Habakkuk 3:19 The Lord GOD is my strength, And He has made my feet like hinds’ feet, And makes me walk on my high places.

Every once in a while you will see something in the scriptures that you have read many time but never really seen what it was saying. This is one of those scriptures.

The hind foot is what keeps the animal stable as it walks in high difficult places. It tells me that God is my strength and gives me the ability to walk in difficult places. I don’t know about you but I have walked in many difficult places and had it not been for God I don’t think I could have made it.

Thank God for “He has made my feet like hinds’ feet”

January 11 - - A word of encouragement

Ephesians 4:29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

Why is it we are always talking down everything around us? We are always looking on the bad side of a person instead of finding the good in them?

The Word of God says, “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouth”. We are to be a help and not a hindrance. We are to speak words that will encourage. We are to build up a person and not try to tear them down.

See you in church

January 10- - Two questions Jesus asked

Matthew 16:13 13 Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, He was asking His disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” 14 And they said, “Some say John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; but still others, [i]Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.” 15 He *said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

We see Jesus asking two questions here. The first being “who do other people say that I am”? If we were to ask this question today we would receive all kinds of answers. Some would say that Jesus is simply a character in a novel written a long time ago. Other would say that He was a great teacher. Still some would say that he is Christ the Son of the Living God.

The next question was “who do you say that I am”? This makes it personal. What kind of relationship do I have with Jesus? Do I only know about Jesus or do I know Jesus as my personal savior.

I think we could go just one more question and that would be “who does Jesus say that I am”. Again I think this depends on my relationship with Jesus. If I have a personal relationship with Jesus then Jesus would answer “YOU ARE A CHILD OF GOD.

What do you think?

January 9 - - Put your trust in God

Psalm 20:7 7Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God.

If I were to paraphrase this verse I would have it to read like this. Some trust in their job and some trust in their money but I will remember and trust in the Lord my God.

When we put our trust in God it means that when the job is gone and when the money is gone we will still be provided for. Our provision does not come from our job or our money it comes from God. It’s great to know that we can put our total trust in the Lord our God and that He will take care of us.

Simply let go and let God.

January 8 - - With God all things are possible.

Matthew 19:26 But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, with men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

Wow - - you could build your life on this one verse. What is impossible for man is possible for God. The bible tells us this same truth over and over.

Genesis 18:14 - Is anything too hard for the LORD?
Job 42:1-2 - Then Job answered the LORD, and said, I know that thou canst do everything....
Jeremiah 32:17 - Ah Lord God! ... There is nothing too hard for thee.
Jeremiah 32:27 - Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh: is there anything too hard for the Lord?;
Matthew 19:26, Mark 10:27 - With God all things are possible.
Luke 1:37 - For with God nothing shall be impossible
Luke 18:27 - The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.

I heard it once said “the impossible is what God does best”.

So my question would be how many times do we have to be told something before we start believing it?

What do you think?

January 7 - - Mustard seed faith

Matthew 17:20 Jesus told them. “I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible”

How much faith does it require to bring about a miracle? Jesus said it take faith only the size of a mustard seed. You just have to direct your faith in the right direction. Not on the miracle but on the giver of the miracle. You can focus your faith on that mountain all day and nothing will happen. You must have faith that God is a God of miracles and that with God nothing is impossible. That is when we see the mountain move.

January 6 - - - Just as you are

Romans 5:8 (NIV) - God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

We pick and choose those that we like and those that we dislike. Most often the ones we like are those that live up to a standard that we have set for them. This is most often based on their behavior. But this is not true with God for it tells us here in this scripture that “while we were still sinners Christ died for us.

Christ did not wait till we came up to His standards. Christ died for us just the way we were but He did not intend for us to remain that way. He wants us to grow into the likeness of Him.

January 5 How many times should I forgive?

Matthew 18:21 Then Peter came to him and asked, “Lord, how often should I forgive someone who sins against me? Seven times?” 22 “No, not seven times,” Jesus replied, “but seventy times seven!

Now I don’t think that this is an unreasonable question? How many times should I forgiving a person when they keep doing the same thing over and over again.

Peter said, should I forgive them seven times. That was the number required under Jewish law. But Jesus said no not seven times but seven times seventy times. Now if my arithmetic is right that would be 490 times. Now does that mean that when I have forgiven 490 times then I no longer need to forgive? I don’t think so. What I think Jesus is saying is this that if we are counting the number of times we have forgiven then most likely we have never forgiven at all.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 4 Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud 5 or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. 6 It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. 7 Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

It tells us in the above verse “keeps no record of being wronged”.

Love is very one sided. Love does not depend on the other person. It does not say that love is not rude as long as the other person is not rude. It does not say Love does not demand its own way as long as the other person does not demand their own way.

Love is all these thing even if the other person is not.

January 3 - - - Soar like an eagle

Isaiah 40:31 but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Those who hope or trust in the Lord shell renew their strength. Renew means to be made new again. When I see the word renew I think of these car shows were they take these old car and renew them or restore them. They take the worn pieces off and clean all the rust off and replace them with new or newly repainted parts until the car look just like it did when it came off the assembly line. Brand new.

The Word of God tells us that when we become a Christian we become renewed. Everything that does not look like Jesus is taken off and replaced with everything that looks like Jesus. The bible says we are “being made into the very image of Jesus” a new creation in the Lord Jesus Christ. The 3rd chapter of John says we are born again.

That in itself is enough to make a person “soar on wings like eagles; run and not grow weary, walk and not be faint”.

January 2 -- Listen carefully to my words.

Proverbs 4:20-22 - New Living Translation
20 My child, pay attention to what I say. Listen carefully to my words. 21 Don’t lose sight of them. Let them penetrate deep into your heart, 22 for they bring life to those who find them, and healing to their whole body.

This proverb is referring to the Word of God. It tells us to do four things. It says for us to pay attention to God’s Word. Then it tells us to listen carefully to it. It goes on to say don’t lose sight of it. Then it tells us to let it penetrate deep into our heart.

Now this verse also comes with a promise. If we do this then the Word of God will bring life and healing to the whole body.

There is power in God’s Word.

January 1 - - My New Year Resolution

Colossians 3:17 (NRSV) - Whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus.

New Year is about New Year’s resolutions and New Year resolutions are about what I want to accomplish and achieve in the upcoming year. But as I think about what my resolutions might be, somehow I want it to be more this year than something that I simply write on a piece of paper.

This year I want my resolutions to focus not on me and what will make me happy but on Christ and the place I give him in my life.

This Year I want the world to see Jesus in me. I want the light of Jesus to shine in me and through me. John the Baptist says it best in John 3:30 when he said, “He (Jesus) must become greater; I must become less”.

So my New Year resolution is that Jesus become greater in my life in this coming year and I become less.

Prayer for the New Year
Dear heavenly Father, show us how to set our heart, eyes, and mind on Jesus and let the light and love of Jesus shine through us in this coming year.

Anna and I wish each of you a very Happy New Year and may your year be full of happiness and God’s blessings.

December 31- - A Do Over

Hebrews 12:1 let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

The New Year is also a time of looking ahead, a time for a new beginning.

I love the freshness of a new beginning. This is what we find in Christ Jesus, a fresh new beginning. When we become a Christian we receive this new beginning. Everything that we were has been forgiven and we are made into a new person.

When I was a kid we called it a do over. When we played a game and didn't do well we would ask if we could have a do over. That's what God gives us when we become a Christian, God give to us a do over. But it gets even better than this. God does the do over for us and he does it through the cross and by the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ.

- - - - -Happy New Year.

December 30 - - A time of keeping and a time a throwing away

Hebrews 12:1 let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

New Year is a time of throwing away. There is an old tradition in Italy when at midnight on December 31st they throw everything out the window that they need to be rid of from last year. They throw out the old calendar, old dishes and broken furniture. I think maybe this is what we need to do. No I don’t mean throw things out the window I mean to look at the past year and throw out those things that are not pleasing to God.

New Year is also a time of keeping. There are many things from last year that we need to keep. There are many things that we did last year that were good and worthy of keeping. We have helped others and we have made new friends, good friends, we also may have some very good memories from last year. These are thing we may want to keep.

So my question would be, what are you going to throw out the window and what are going to keep?

What do you think?

Pray for our Churches. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that the men in our church will have a powerful impact on its ministries, and that they will provide godly leadership in their homes, the church, and throughout the community.

December 29 - - A New Year with A New Beginning

2 Corinthians 5:17

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

As we approach the New Year it is just natural for us to evaluate the past year. Looking at what we succeeded in and what we failed in but in this scripture we are told to put aside those things. “- - -old things have passed away”.

If you are in Christ you are now a New Creation. The past has “passed away” and we now have a new beginning. Not just a new beginning one time but a new beginning as many times as we need a new beginning. God is a God of forgiveness a God of new beginnings.

The New Year gives us a feeling of having a new start and a new beginning. Jesus does not give us a feeling of a new beginning Jesus gives us a new beginning.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation”. The third chapter of John calls it “being born again”.

Pray for our Churches. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that our church family will be united in our worship of God, fellowship with one another, and ministry to the community. Ask God to help believers confront and remove issues and problems that threaten this unity.

December 28 - - A great New Year Resolution

James 1:22-25 -But Be Doers of the Word, and Not Just Hearers Only Deceiving Yourself

We are all pretty good at lessening when we are being told what we should do. We are also pretty good at telling others what they should do but when it comes to doing it ourselves it is often another story. James tells us that we are to be doers of the word and not hearers only. It says that we are only deceiving ourselves.

What kind of a year do you think we would have if we become “doers of God’s Word”?

What A great New Year Resolution “to be doers of God’s Word”.

December 27 - - God said “I have for you”

As we approach the New Year our thoughts turn to what lye’s ahead in this coming year.

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Wow look at all the jewels found is this scripture, plans for us to prosper, plans not to harm us, plans to give us hope, plans to give us a future and I thought Christmas was over. God keeps on giving and giving and giving. Wow what a great and glorious God we have.

I believe God does have a plan for our lives. It says prosperity, hope and a future. How do we measure prosperity? Do we measure it by the amount of money we have or how successful we are or do we measure it by the peace, happiness and contentment we have in our lives.

The King James Version of this scripture says
11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

Don’t you just Love the Word of God?

What do you think?

December 26 - - Day after Christmas

Hebrews 13:5 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”

Christmas is over it’s time to take the decoration down. It is also time to take back to the stores those gifts that we received for Christmas that was not right for us. They say that the day after Christmas is one of the busiest days of the year.

God tells us here in this scripture that His gift of salvation is a gift that is always right and will never be taken back. God tells us “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you”

The gift of salvation that God gives us is a forever gift. Let me say that again. The gift of salvation that God gives us is a forever gift.

December 25 - -Christmas Day

Well here it is Christmas day. We have so very much to be thankful for this beautiful Christmas day. God has indeed been so very good to us. I would like to thank all of you that have been reading this post and I would like to take this time to wish each of you a Very Merry “Jesus Christmas”.

To those who are using the Advent candle today is the day you light the white candle in the center of the wreath. It is the candle of celebration. It is lit celebrating the birth of Jesus.

I believe it would be appropriate that we read together the Christmas story from the Gospel of Look. Luke 2:1-7 And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed. (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David) To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; - - -

December 24 - - God’s gift to us for Christmas

Luke 2:10-11 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

Did you see what I just saw in this scripture? It said “I bring YOU good tidings of great joy”. The word God uses here is “YOU” that would be YOU and that would also be ME. We are the ones to receive this good tidings of great joy.

It goes on to say “unto YOU is born --- a Savior” There it is again that word YOU. Again it is speaking to YOU and also ME. If the two of us were the only ones that God had ever created the Angles would have still brought the good tiding of great joy announcing the birth of Jesus.

Happy Christmas Eve

Pray for our Churches. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray for the shut-ins in our church, as well as those who are widowed and living alone. Ask God to bless and encourage them, anointing their lives with power for ministry as well as help for the needs they face daily.

December 23 - - Finding Jesus changes everything

Luke 2:15 - --- - Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us. 16 And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.

Luke 2:20 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.

The shepherds came in haste seeking to see that which has come to past. They came in wonder seeking Jesus. They left glorifying and praising God

Finding Jesus will do this to a person.

What so you think?

Pray for our Churches. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that the lives of our pastoral staff will be marked by integrity and godliness.

December 22 - - A Mothers love

Luke 2:19 But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart

In this scripture we see the love of a mother for her child. It seems that our children never grow up in our heart No matter how old or big they get they will still be our little boy or little girl. My youngest is 50 but he is still our baby.

We have boxes of things that they made when they were young. We have never thrown a birthday, mother’s day or father’s day card away. Sometimes we ask ourselves why we-re saving them. I know the answer “they are just too close to our heart to throw away”

Everything that Jesus did Mary pondered in her heart. Yes Jesus was/is the Son of God but He was still Mary’s little baby.

What do you think?

Pray for our Churches. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that the pastoral staff will remain bold in proclaiming spiritual truth, even when it is unpopular to do so.

December 21 - - Today we Light the fourth ADVENT CANDLE

The fourth Advent Candle is purple it is called THE ANGEL CANDLE or THE CANDLE OF LOVE

The angles announced the good news of a Savior. God sent his only Son Jesus to save us from our sin!

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” (John 3:16-17)

As we light this fourth candle we focus our attention on God’s LOVE. Romans 5:8 But God commends his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

God did not say we had to do better before he would send Jesus. God sent Jesus to us just the way we are now but God did not intend for us to remain this way. God wants to change us into the very image of His Son Jesus. - - - We summit to Jesus and God does the changing.

So as we light the fourth candle let us focus our attention on God’s Love.

What do you think?

Pray for our Churches. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that members of the congregation will convey a strong witness of the gospel to their community, through integrity, love, and godliness.

December 19 - - Merry Christmas

I have no idea where the saying Merry Christmas came from. But I do know that it is very biblical because it tells me in ----

Proverbs 17:22 A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.

Proverbs tell me that a merry heart is medicine for the soul but it is also medicine for the body. The Proverb goes on to say that “a broken spirit drieth the bones”.

How does the old hymn go?

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.

So my question for today would be “Have you taken your medicine?” Do you have this merry heart? If not you will find it by placing your trust in Jesus.

What do you think?

Pray for our Churches. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that God will protect the hearts of our pastor staff and families against the deception and lure of impure thoughts and deeds.

I ask prayer for my wife who is now in the hospital. She fell down several steps at church and has several cracked bones. The doctors seem to think she will be fine in time. Please pray for a fast recovery.

December 18 - - His name shall be Jesus

Luke 2:21 And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called JESUS, which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb.

“And His name was called Jesus” The father was always the one who named the child. So we see it was not Mary who named the child nor was it Joseph who named the child. It was God who selected the name that was given to the child born of a virgin in the stable at Bethlehem.

“His name is to be Jesus”. This was the name given to Mary by the angel and Jesus was the name given to the angel by God the Father. So in this scripture we see God the Father who is saying “His name shall be called Jesus”.

We see in this scripture proof that Jesus truly is the Son of God.

Pray for our Churches. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray for wisdom and leadership for the pastoral staff in dealing with the challenges of ministry, be they physical, emotional, or spiritual.

December 17 - - His name shall be Jesus

Luke 1:31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.

In the Old Testament the name of God was considered to be so holy that they would not speak it or write it. For 1500 years, from Moses to Jesus, the name of GOD was never spoken throughout Ancient Israel except on Yom Kippur by the High Priest when he was alone in the innermost part of the Holy Temple.

When spoken it was referred to as "A-don-ai," meaning "Lord." When written a space was left open where the name was to be placed. Even today when a Jewish person writes the name of God the vowel is left out and is written "G-d"

I recall when I was a young boy I was taught that the name of Jesus was so holy that when it was spoken I was to bow my head. Nothing has changed the name of Jesus is still that holy.

Jesus, name above all names
Beautiful Savior, glorious Lord.
Emmanuel, God is with us,
Blessed Redeemer, Living Word.

Pray for our Churches. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray for a powerful anointing of the Holy Spirit upon our pastoral leadership.

November 16 - - His name shall be Jesus

Matthew 1:21 - And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

The name Jesus means salvation. The word salvation means forgiveness but is also means provision.

1 Samuel 2:1 - - - My heart rejoiceth in the LORD, mine horn is exalted in the LORD: my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; because I rejoice in thy salvation.

This shows salvation as providing for our needs – God provides for all our needs – not just food for the table but also the job we work the rent or house payment, the car we drive and even the clothes on our back.

Salvation is God delivering us from troubles, insuring our welfare, providing for all of our daily needs and victory over trials in our lives and don’t forget forgiveness of our sin and eternal life in Heaven

All of this is found in the name of Jesus our salvation.

Jesus paid it all, all to Him I owe;
Sin had left a crimson stain,
He washed it white as snow.

What do you think?

Pray for our Churches. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that members of the congregation will convey a strong witness of the gospel to their community, through integrity, love, and godliness.

December 15 - - The Christmas Gift that was not received

John 1:11 and 12 “He came unto His own, and His own received Him not. But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name.”.

“But as many as received Him to them gave He power to become the sons of God”. The gift is there today waiting to be received. Jesus was the gift and is the gift that was given on that first Christmas morning. It’s not hard to receive a gift all a person need do is to reach out and take it.

There are many that believe in Jesus. Believe that He is the Son of God. Even believe that He died on the cross for their sins. There is a big difference in believing and receiving. Believing is head knowledge receiving is heart knowledge. To receive all a person need do is to open up their heart and allow Jesus the gift of Christmas to enter in.

Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Your gift is ready to be received.

Merry Christmas

Pray for our Churches. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray for members of the congregation battling physical illness or emotional struggles, or facing spiritual needs. Ask God to minister to them in miraculous ways.

December 14 - - Lighting of the 3rd ADVENT CANDLE

The third Advent Candle is pink it is called THE SHEPHERD CANDLE or THE CANDLE OF JOY

The angels sang a message of JOY! Luke 2:7-15 “…and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great JOY that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.

The angel said “I bring you good news of great JOY’. The birth of Jesus should bring JOY into our lives. The birth of Jesus is God’s gift of JOY.

December 13 - - God’s gift

Romans 6:23 - - - God’s gift of eternal life.

If you were to receive a nice gift without a signature you might be a little bit interested in knowing who sent the gift and who they are. There is something deep inside us that wants to know more about someone who might like us or even love us enough to send us a gift. Who are they and why are they being so good to us? What do they want in return?

At this time of gift giving we need to reflect on the gift that we receive from God, the gift of eternal life in His Son Jesus Christ.

Who is this God that comes bearing the gift of eternal life? Who is this God-made-man who has come to us in a manger in Bethlehem?

Jesus does not come anonymously but comes proclaiming His name and who he is. He comes bring to us the Word of the Father and bearing the gift of salvation.

John 3:16 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Eternal life in The Lord Jesus Christ is God’s gift to man. This is the story and meaning of Christmas. Christmas is God’s love.

If you want to see who God is and what God’s love is all about then simply look in the manger.

What do you think?

Pray for our Churches. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that visitors to the church will sense the love and compassion of Christ, expressed through every member of the congregation.

December 12 - - - - God’s Gift of love

John 15:11-12 11 I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. 12 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.

What happened to the days when the focus was on love and not gifts?

Do you recall those little gifts our children made for us with the elbow macaroni and construction paper? Ann and I still have a few of them. I have often said I was going to have some of them framed because they mean that much to us.

I found out a long time ago that it’s not so much how big the gift as much as it is how much love the gift is wrapped in.

What do you think?

Pray for our Churches. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that Jesus will be at the center of every ministry, service, and event that takes place within the church and congregation.

December 11 - - A New Christmas

If you recall when you were a kid it seemed that Christmas would never come. We would spend hours looking in the catalog at all the gifts you were hoping to get. Week after week, day after day just waiting,

In the garden God created man and woman. He gave them everything in the garden except one tree and that was the tree of good and evil. We all know how the story goes Eve ate of the fruit of the tree and then gave it to Adam and because they ate of this tree and disobeyed God they were driven from the garden and separated from God.

But a promise was given, a promise that God would send a redeemer. Over and over in the bible God gave the promise of a redeemer. So they waited and waited and waited. Over 2,000 years they waited for that first Christmas morning when this promise of God would be fulfilled.

Then it happened.

“And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. ”. Luke 2:10-11.

The angels were saying “Christmas is here”.

But now we have a new promise. The promise of the return of Jesus. A promise of a new Christmas.

And so again we wait and again we wait. The second Christmas we will not see Jesus come as a Baby in a manger but as King of King and Lord of Lords.

--------------

Pray for our Churches. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that the women in our church will serve as leaders and role models of strength, maturity, and ministry at the church, in their families, and in the community.

December 10 - - My Christmas wish.

If I had a wish for this Christmas it would be for us to be silent.

“Zechariah 2:13 – - be silent before the LORD",

Zechariah tells us to be silent before the Lord. I think sometimes we become so busy preparing for Christmas that we miss the true meaning of Christmas.

Take time this year to stop, be silent and reflect upon Jesus after all isn’t this really what Christmas is all about,

What do you think?

Pray for our Churches. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that the men in our church will have a powerful impact on its ministries, and that they will provide godly leadership in their homes, the church, and throughout the community.

December 9 - - The Word of God is LIGHT

At Christmas we often ride through the neighborhood looking at all the beautiful light. Lights play a big part in celebrating Christmas.

The Bible has a lot to say about lights. In the Old Testament, it says that the Word of God is a light. - - -

Psalm 119:105 “Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.”

“A lamp unto my feet” is a light shining down on our feet showing us where we are to walk so we will not stumble and fall. The Word of God has the power to keep us from stumbling into sin and falling away from God.

“The Word of God is a light unto our path” shining out in front of us so we can see where we are going. Showing us the right way to go, keeping us on the path that leads to God and eternal life.

In Psalm 119:130 it says - - -The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.

“Understanding to the simple” We could say that the Word of God is like a light for our understanding. It lets us see with understanding the things of God.

So the Word of God is able to enlighten the mind of even the simple.

“The simple” I’m so glad God included me. - - - LOL

What do you think?

Pray for our Churches. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that God will bless the children of the church, protecting them from harm and helping them to grow strong in the Lord as they prepare for a lifetime of serving Christ.

December 8 - - Christmas lights

John 1:5-9 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.

The good news of Christmas is that in the midst of a great darkness there came a Light, and the darkness was not able to overcome the Light. The Light was not just a flicker. It was an eternal Flame. The Christmas story affirms that whatever happens, the Light will still shine.

Jesus is the Light that shines in the darkness, the Light that can never be extinguished. Jesus came to bring this Light to us so that we would not walk in darkness.

So the next time you light the tree at Christmas and see the majesty of its lights stop and think on what these lights are saying.

What do you think?

Pray for our Churches. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that the youth in our church will stand strong for Christ in their schools and with their friends. Ask God to help each young person to follow His plan for their lives, both now and in the years to come.

December 7 - - Lighting of the Second Advent Candle

The Second Advent Candle is purple it is called THE BETHLEHEM CANDLE or THE CANDLE OF PREPARATION.

Preparation means to “get ready”.

Luke 3:4-6 “As is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet: ‘A voice of one calling in the desert, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him. Every valley shall be filled in, every mountain and hill made low. The crooked roads shall become straight, the rough ways smooth. And all mankind will see God’s salvation.‘

We do well preparing our homes for this day of celebration. We often began even before Thanksgiving. Decorating the house with lights, the Christmas tree, shopping but how much time do we spend preparing ourselves?

We light the Second Advent candle today reminding us to prepare ourselves for this special day of celebration.

What do you think?

Pray for our Churches. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray for the shut-ins in our church, as well as those who are widowed and living alone. Ask God to bless and encourage them, anointing their lives with power for ministry as well as help for the needs they face daily.

December 6 - - God’s gift of a white stone

I will also give to each one who wins the victory a white stone with a new name written on it. REVELATION 2:17

When I was a young boy I was told that if I was bad at Christmas I would receive a bag of coal. Of course we know this is not true but the Bible dose tell us that God does have a white stone for us. This is not a bad thing but a good thing.

This is where the term “blackballing a person comes from”. If you desired acceptance into a group they would vote by placing stones into a box. If a black stone was placed in the box then you would not be accepted, you would be blackballed.

A white stone is a stone of acceptance. This scripture is telling us that God has for those who believe in Him a white stone but that’s not all, on this white stone is written a new name.

Fathers and mothers often show love for their children by giving them special names, Princess, – Angel, – my Buddy - and they do this to show their children special love. . .

Isn't it incredible to think that God has a special name just for us?

What do you think?

Pray for our Churches. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that believers throughout the church will grow in rela¬tionship with Christ as they follow the path of discipleship.

December 5 - -The Christmas tree

Why do we celebrate Christmas with a Christmas Tree?

The evergreen tree is a symbol of life in the midst of winter. Many believe that the first Christmas Trees were hung upside down from the ceiling using chains or from the chandelier.

The first person to bring a Christmas tree into the house was the 16th century German preacher Martin Luther. A story is told that, one night before Christmas, he was walking through the forest and looked up to see the stars shining through the tree branches. It was so beautiful, that he went home and told his children that it reminded him of Jesus who left the stars of heaven to come to earth at Christmas.

The first Christmas Trees were decorated with edible things, such as gingerbread and apples. Many today still decorate their tree with strung popcorn and cranberries.

It tells us in Isaiah 55:12, “all the trees of the field shall clap their hands”. Even a tree has its place in worship of the Lord Jesus Christ at this special time of the year. Just maybe that's why we call it a Christ mas tree.

What do you think?

December 4 - - Looking for that perfect gift for Jesus

Hosea 6:6 For I desire goodness, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt-offerings.

Wow would you believe this. God is telling us that if He had to choose between goodness and a sacrifice, he would take your goodness. And if God had to choose between knowledge of Him and an offering He would take your knowledge of Him.

So if you’re planning a gift for Jesus this year why not give Him what he wants. GOODNESS and KNOWLEDGE OF HIM

What do you think?

Pray for our Churches. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that our church family will be united in our worship of God, fellowship with one another, and ministry to the community. December 3 - - Care enough to send the very best

"When you care enough to send the very best" has been the slogan for Hallmark greeting cards since 1944. But the meaning even goes back further than that.

When God gave His son Jesus to the world “God cared enough to give His very best”. The Son of God was indeed the most treasured gift that God had in the same way our children are our most treasured gift. Yet God chose to give Jesus to us on that very first Christmas.

John 3:16
16 For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

God cared enough to give His very best.

December 2- -The Advent Wreath

The word Advent is Latin for “the coming”. It is a custom of the church to begin the celebration of Christmas with an Advent Wreath.

The Advent wreath is a circular garland of evergreen branches representing eternity. Set on the branches of the wreath are four candles: three purple candles and one pink candle. In the center of the wreath sits a white candle. As a whole, these candles represent the coming of the light of Christ into the world.

One candle on the wreath is lit each Sunday as a part of the Advent services. Each candle represents an aspect of the spiritual preparation for the coming of the Lord, Jesus.

December 1- - The first Advent candle is lit

Yesterday we celebrated the first day of Advent by lighting the first of the four candles on the Advent Wreath. The first candle to be lit is the purple candle it is called THE PROPHECY CANDLE or CANDLE OF HOPE. We can have hope because God is faithful and will keep the promises made to us. Our hope comes from God.

Romans 15:12-13 And again, Isaiah says, ‘The Root of Jesse will spring up, one who will arise to rule over the nations; the Gentiles will hope in him.’

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Jesus is the Root of Jesse.
Jesus will rule over all nations.
Jesus is the Hope of the world.
Jesus is our Hope of Glory.

Pray for our Churches. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that God will help the pastoral staff develop strong relationships with other pastors and churches in the community, as we as with community leaders.

November 5 – Those that loved Jesus and those that despised Him

Matthew 12:14 Then the Pharisees went out, and held a council against him, how they might destroy him.

The ministry of Jesus was mixed with those that loved Him and followed Him And those that despised Him and plotted to kill Him. Both were very important in His ministry.

Jesus came to show the love of God but Jesus also came to die on the cross. It took both love and hate to complete His ministry.

Thanks be to God for His love and thanks be to God for His redemption found on the cross.

November 4 – Jesus heals in many ways.

13 Then saith he to the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, like as the other.

We see something here that we don’t see in other healings. Jesus didn’t speak the healing. Jesus didn’t say anything except “stretch forth thine hand”. Jesus did not say hand be healed. Jesus did not even touch him. Jesus simply said “stretch forth thine hand”

Do you think Jesus did this for a reason? Everything Jesus did He did for a reason.

Every time Jesus healed He did it in a different way. Once Jesus said “who touched me and the woman was healed”, another time Jesus said “Your faith has healed you”, another time Jesus placed mud in a man’s eyes and he was healed. Each time Jesus healed Jesus did it in a different way.

There is no special way that we must come to God for healing. We simply come placing our faith in Him believing that He is a God of healing.

I would like for us to pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. 2 Chronicles 714 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. - - - - Pray for the healing needed in my life. On the tenth of this month I found out that I had colon cancer. Since then I have undergone surgery. The doctor was able to remove all the cancer making me 100% cancer free.

The recovery has been going well. I have undergone a lot of pain but each day has been better than the last. God is good and has walked with me every step of the way. The scripture “I will never leave you nor will I ever forsake you” has new meaning for me.

I have missed making my post each morning “A word from the Word” and am looking forward to posting again. I still need a few more days to recover.

Thanks for your prayers.

October 12 - - - Rules for the Sabbath

Matthew 12:11-12 11 And he said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out? 12 How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days.

Jesus said, you wouldn’t think twice to rescue a sheep that had fallen into a pit on the Sabbath. There rules for the Sabbath allowed certain exceptions in regard to what could be done. Work done when there was some great need was allowed, like a man’s sheep falling into a pit. We’re talking about money now.

First of all we need to understand that this was not God’s law governing the Sabbath. You have a sheep that has fallen into a pit that is all right to take care of and we have a man whose hand is diseased who needs a healing that is not all right to take care of.

Tell me what’s wrong with this picture?

The man with the withered hand had a need and Jesus saw that need. Aren’t you glad that Jesus takes care of needs? Aren’t you glad Jesus takes care of our needs?

October 11 - - - A time of Worship and Rest.

Mark 2:27 - And he (Jesus) said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:

What does this mean? This simply means that the Sabbath was not made to rule the person or to be a burden to man – It was meant to be a day of rest, a day worship and a day for man to enjoy. The Sabbath was made to serve man

God created the Sabbath as a day of rest. Exodus 20:8–11 (ESV) 8 Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant.

The Christion Church has set aside Sunday and their Sabbath but in today’s culture where so many must work of Sunday we need to take a close look at this. Each of us needs a Sabbath in our lives. We need to set aside one day in the week to rest and give worship and praise to God. Many churches today have Saturday night Worship for this reason.

But then again shouldn’t every day of the week be a day of worship and praise to God.

“The Sabbath was made for man and not man for the Sabbath”.

Dear Friend.

Today I found out that I have cancer of the colon. The doctor tells me that it is in the early stage and will be easy to remove. I will be entering the hospital for surgery on Tuesday. I send you this note in request for prayer.

If you do not see a post in the next few weeks I hope you will understand. I will be posting until I enter the hospital. "I will see victory in this by the Word of God"

October 10 - - - God law and man’s law

Matthew 12:9-10 9 And when he was departed thence, he went into their synagogue: 10 And, behold, there was a man which had his hand withered. And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath days? that they might accuse him.

Does the value of life overrule all rules and regulation? Does the value of life overrule the law? Two very good questions.

Suppose you saw someone drowning and then you saw a sign saying no swimming would you break the law and swim out and try to save the person drowning or would you obey the law and let the person drown?

That’s a real stupid question. Of course we would break the law and try to save the person who is drowning but isn’t that exactly what we are seeing here in this scripture.

We see the Pharisees demanding that Jesus keep the law of the Sabbath and let the man with the withered had remain sick. We see Jesus setting aside the law and ministering to a person who is in need.

I said setting aside the law I didn’t say breaking the law because this was not even a law. This was simply something that the Pharisee had created and called the law.

I’m so glad that we don’t have all of those man made laws in the church - - - or do we?

October 9 - - - Here or There

Philippians 1:21 For me to live is Christ and to die is gain.

In Philippians chapter 1 verse 21 we read this powerful statement made by Paul

In living we have many things that we may rejoice in. We may rejoice in God’s love in that He sent Jesus the Christ to die for our sins. We may rejoice in God’s love in that God provides for our daily needs. We may rejoice in God’s love in that God not only hears our prayer but answers them. We may rejoice in God’s love in that he provided His Holy Word to instruct us, His church to encourage us, His Holy Spirit to teach us and friends and love ones to walk with us. Then again if one dies, we may rejoice in God’s love by being with Jesus the Christ forever in His presence.

A Sunday school teacher asked this question to the children in her class. Who wants to go to heaven? All raised their hands except one little boy Johnny. Johnny she ask, don’t you want to go to heaven. The little boy answered “oh yes. Then she asked, why didn’t you raise your hand and Johnny answered, I thought you meant right now.

Yes I can understand what the little boy was saying but I can also understand what Paul was saying.

Paul is saying that it is good to be here but it also will be good to be there.

October 8 - - - Thinking is as bad as doing

Proverbs 24:8 He that deviseth to do evil shall be called a mischievous person.
The Living Bible says it like this 8 To plan evil is as wrong as doing it.

Wow I never saw this before. Do you mean that to think about doing it is just a bad as doing it? If that be the case I not only need to get my doing in line with the Word but I also need to get my thinking in line with the Word.

What do you think?

October 7 - - - The New Covenant Meal

“26 So Jesus took the bread and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. 27 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; 28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.” (Matthew 26:26-28)

As we gather at the Lord’s Supper Table we are partaking of the New Covenant, the covenant between God and man. At the Lord’s Supper table we find God as one party of the New Covenant and Jesus who is representing us as the other party of this New Covenant. The covenant between God and man that can not and will not ever be broken.

In this Covenant Meal we call the Lord’s Supper we have Jesus giving Himself as the covenant sacrifice. A covenant meal must have a Covenant Sacrifice. But the Lamb had yet to be sacrificed. Jesus had not yet been nailed to the cross. Jesus had not yet been sacrificed as atonement for our sin. So we see Jesus using the bread as His body and the wine as His blood, the body and the blood of the Lamb of the Lamb that was yet to be sacrificed.

“26 So Jesus took the bread and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. 27 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; 28 For this is my blood of the new covenant which is shed for many for the remission of sins.” (Matthew 26:26-28)

Jesus said take and eat of this sacrifice – the binding together of man and God in Covenant.

October 6 - - - Conditional Covenant

Exo 19:3 and Moses went up the mountain to meet with God. The LORD called to him from the mountain and told him to say to the Israelites, Jacob's descendants: 5 Now, if you will obey me and keep my covenant, you will be my own people. The whole earth is mine, but you will be my chosen people, 6 a people dedicated to me alone, and you will serve me as priests." 8 Then all the people answered together, "We will do everything that the LORD has said," and Moses reported this to the LORD.

The word Old Testament means Old Covenant; in the Old Testament we see that the covenant between God and man was a conditional covenant. God said you keep my commandments, the Ten Commandments, and I will keep you as my people.

The only trouble was that they could not keep the commandments. They could not keep the commandments and we cannot keep the commandments. When we broke the first command we fell out of covenant with God.

But I have good news. The good news is that in the New Covenant (New Testament) Jesus has kept our part of the covenant for us. Jesus lived a life in complete obedience to God and then when He had completed his life on earth he gave it to us.

Jesus filled all the conditions of the covenant for us and then at the Lord Supper Table we together partake with Him of the covenant meal.

October 5 - - - The New Testament Covenant

Isa 61:10 I will greatly rejoice in Jehovah, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with a garland, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.

THE LORD'S TABLE IS A COVENANT MEAL. It is a covenant meal between God and man. It is the binding of the New Covenant between God and man but what makes it even greater is that Jesus keeps our part in the covenant.

In second Corinthians (5:21) it tells us we exchange garments with Jesus. “Jesus who knew no sin he (God) made to be sin on our behalf; that we might become the righteousness of God in him. Jesus took our garment of sin and gave us His garment of righteousness.

October 4 - - - The Wedding Covenant

Genesis 2:24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

We see a symbolic picture of this Covenant meal today as the bride and the groom feed each other from the wedding cake. This is not just something silly that the couple does even thou we often try to make it so. This is a symbolic picture of a covenant meal. The marriage covenant binding the two as one “till death do ye part”.

In this covenant the bride and the groom become one and the two families also become one – the bride’s family now becomes the groom’s family and the groom’s family now becomes the bride’s family. Then everything the groom has now becomes the bride’s and everything the bride has now becomes the groom’s.

They are no longer two but now are one by covenant with each other in marriage. The same thing takes place at the Lord’s Supper table. We become one with Jesus.

John 14:20 At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you. Jesus spoke these words to His disciples at the Lord’s Supper table.

Now how good is that?

October 3 - - - Covenant between Jonathan and David

1Samuial 18:3-4 Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul. 4. And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon him, and gave it to David, and his garments, even to his sword, and to his bow, and to his girdle.

David and Jonathon entered into a binding covenant. In this scripture we see the binding of the covenant between David and Jonathon by the exchanging of robes– the exchanging of garments – the exchanging of swords and girdles.

The exchanging of robes – There robe symbolized being the head of their family – so by exchanging their robes they were saying they exchanged family’s meaning that each would protect and care for the others family.

Then we have the exchange of garments – they exchanged garments or everything they wore – that meant that everything they owned now belonged to the other.

Then they exchanged swords and bow and girdle - meaning that David’s enemies now became Jonathon’s enemies and Jonathon’s enemies now became David’s enemies. This is why when the dispute came up between David and Jonathon’s father Soul, Jonathan chose to help David. This shows us just how strong a covenant between two parties could be. – A covenant was even stronger then blood relations.

At the Lord’s Supper God entered into Covenant with man. The Covenant between David and Jonathon was a strong binding Covenant but the Covenant between God and man is even a greater binding Covenant.

October 2 - - - The Covenant Meal

Gen 31:45 So Jacob took a stone and set it up as a monument. 46 Then he told his family members, “Gather some stones.” So they gathered stones and piled them in a heap. Then Jacob and Laban sat down beside the pile of stones to eat a covenant meal.

The covenant meal was done to seal the covenant between the two parties. A covenant was a binding contract. It was a binding agreement that could not be broken.

This was often done between two nations or tribes who felt that they needed the support of the other in regard to a threat of an aggressor. So the two of them would enter into covenant and then they would bind this covenant with a covenant meal

The Lords Supper is that Covenant meal binding the New Covenant between God and man. For the next few days I thought we might look at this Covenant meal between God and man.

October 1 - - - A call for Help

Psalm 70:1-5 (TLB) 1 Rescue me, O God! Lord, hurry to my aid! 2-3 They are after my life and delight in hurting me. Confuse them! Shame them! Stop them! Don’t let them keep on mocking me! 4 But fill the followers of God with joy. Let those who love your salvation exclaim, “What a wonderful God he is!” 5 But I am in deep trouble. Rush to my aid, for only you can help and save me. O Lord, don’t delay.

How many times have I prayed this prayer and how many times did God answer me by rushing to my aid. God is a God of His Word always doing what He said He would do.

What a mighty God we serve.

September 30 - - - Let’s talk it over

Isaiah 1:18: “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool”.

This is one of the most amazing verses in the Bible! God says to me "Let's reason together”.

Imagine! God who’s I.Q. is infinity wants to "reason" with me!

All I can say about is -- WOW what a God we serve.

What do you think?

September 29 - - - What A God We Serve

Psalm 139:17-18 How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them! 18 If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee.

The Living Bible says it like this - 17-18 How precious it is, Lord, to realize that you are thinking about me constantly! I can’t even count how many times a day your thoughts turn toward me.[a] And when I waken in the morning, you are still thinking of me!

When things are going well God is thinking about me. When things are not going well God is thinking about me. Every place I go and in everything I do God is their thinking about me. There is never one moment, day or night that God is not thinking about me.

To think that the God that created the universe is thinking about me constantly all day and all night long, that God never turns His thoughts away from me is almost to much for this little mind of mine to comprehend.

All I can say about is -- WOW what a God we serve.

What do you think?

September 28 - - - Wisdom and Knowledge

James 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

I have known a few in my life that have had very little education yet were very wise. I have also known a few who were very educated yet did not know to come in out of the rain. There is a difference between knowledge and wisdom.

Don’t get me wrong I am for an education. I feel that it is very important but what we’re talking about is the difference between wisdom and knowledge.

Knowledge comes from learning and study. Knowledge comes from schooling and books. Knowledge comes from having experience in doing but Wisdom comes from God. - - - - Big difference between Wisdom and Knowledge.

If you want knowledge then seek it out by schooling and study but if your want Wisdom James tells us we are to ask of God “that giveth to all men liberally”.

See you in church

September 27 - - - Even the darkness is not dark

Psalm 139:12 Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.

All of us have had those times in our lives when it seemed as if we were walking in darkness. A time when we could not see or know what to do or where to go.

That is the time when we need to turn from the darkness and turn to the Light. God is Light and in God there is no darkness. To God the darkness is as light. God always know what we should do or where we should go.

Next time you find yourself in darkness simply look up and see the light of God.

John 8:12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

September 26 - - - God is able

Ephesians 3:20-21 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,

(NRSV) - Now to [God] who by the power at work within us is able to accomplish far more than we can ask or imagine, to him be glory.

I believe too many times that we forget that it is God who is able to accomplish “those things within us”.

Sometimes when we look back we stand amazed at what God has done in our lives but don’t you think foresight might even be better than hindsight. If we could only have the vision and understanding and the faith to know that God is a God that can and will do great wondrous thing in our lives if we will only allow Him.

What do you think?

September 25 - - - The Importance of God’s Word

Matthew 22:29 Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.

Just how important is it for us to know the Word of God? I believe that in order to know the power of God it is important to know the Word of God. How can we live and move in God’s power if we do not know God’s Word?

2Ti 3:16 -17 - All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

Jesus said, “Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God”.

September 24 - - - Every good and perfect gift is from God.

JAMES 1:17 17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

Just Look at the gifts God has given us: God sent his angels to care for us. God’s Holy Spirit to dwell in us. God’s church to encourage us. God’s word to guide us... Anytime we speak. God listens. We make a request and God responds. God will never let us be tempted too much or stumble too far.

Let a tear appear on our cheek, and God is there to wipe it. Let a love sonnet appear on our lips, and God is there to hear it. As much as we want to see God, God wants to see us even more....we have been chosen by Christ.... Christ has claimed us as his beloved. - - - - And even more and more and more - - - - -

- - - Every good and perfect gift is from God. - - -

September 23 - - - Invitation to the Thirsty

Isaiah 55:12 11So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. 12 For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.

The 55 chapter of the book of Isaiah is an Invitation to those who are thirsty, thirsty after the things of God. Matthew 5:6 says it like this. “Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled”.

Isaiah 55:11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. - - God’s Word will do what God’s Word says it will do.

So let me give you God’s Word for you today “you shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands”.

May your day be filled with nothing but blessings - -

September 22 - - - God’s plan of prosperity

Jeremiah 29:11 - New International Version - For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

I believe God does have a plan for our lives. It tells us here that the plan includes prosperity.

How do we measure prosperity? Do we measure it by the amount of money we have or how successful we are or do we measure it by the peace, happiness and contentment we have in our lives.

The King James Version says “thoughts of peace, and not of evil”.

What do you think?

September 21 - - - God said it

Numbers 23:19 - God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of man, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?

You have heard it said that God can do everything. Well that is not true, it tells me right here in this verse. God cannot tell a lie nor can the Son of Man, who is Jesus, change His mind.

If there is one thing we can be sure of is that everything God speaks in His Holy Word is true. So why is it that when we have a need we fret when all the time we know that God said that “He will provide for all our need according to his riches in Glory”.

I love it where it says “Does He (God) speak and not act”. God does not speak empty words. I love the little song we use to sing as a child.

God said it
I believe it
And that’s good enough for me.

See you in church

September 20 - - - The Older Son

Luke 15:25-32 “Meanwhile, the older son was in the field. 25 When he came near the house, he heard music and dancing. 26 So he called one of the servants and asked him what was going on. 27 ‘Your brother has come,’ he replied, ‘and your father has killed the fattened calf because he has him back safe and sound.’ 28 “The older brother became angry and refused to go in.

The parable is all about mercy and grace. It’s all about receiving sinners with forgiveness and love. It’s all about coming home and being received.

Then all of a sudden we see un-forgiveness, the un-forgiveness of the older son. It doesn’t seem to fit into the picture.

The older brother is looking at what’s happening through the eyes of justice. This is not fair. What gives him the right to? The father is looking at what is happening through the eyes of mercy.

We must be very careful when we cry for justice. Justice points in both directions, “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23).

So his father went out and pleaded with him. 29 But he answered his father, ‘Look! All these years I’ve been slaving for you and never disobeyed your orders. Yet you never gave me even a young goat so I could celebrate with my friends. 30 But when this son of yours who has squandered your property with prostitutes comes home, you kill the fattened calf for him!’ 31 “ ‘My son,’ the father said, ‘you are always with me, and everything I have is yours. 32 But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ “

Did the older son remain outside angry or did he show forgiveness and join the celebration. There is no ending to this parable. Jesus lets the Pharisees write their own ending. Recall how this all began - - - Luke 15:2 2 And the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, This man (Jesus) receiveth sinners, and eateth with them.

How would you write the ending?
