A word from the Word

July 25- - “Our Father”. (Opening)

Matthew 6:9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

“Our Father” We are to pray to the Father. We cannot enter into a father-son relationship with God apart from the cross of Jesus.

John 1:12 “But as many as received him (Jesus), to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name”. So looking at this verse we see apart from salvation it is impossible to call God, Our Father.

The term Father shows a Fathers relationship to his child, A Fathers love, A Fathers correction, A Fathers provision And a Fathers protection.

The term father also shows a child’s relationship to his father, a child’s submission, a child’s obedience and a child’s dependence upon the father for his needs.

So we pray “Our Father”

-------

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray for members of the congregation battling physical illness or emotional struggles, or facing spiritual needs. Ask God to minister to them in miraculous ways.

July 24 - -The Lord’s Prayer

Matthew 6:9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

We call this the Lord’s Prayer but this is really the model prayer. The Lord’s Prayer is found in John 17. In John 17 Jesus is praying for the Church. In Matthew 6 Jesus is teaching the Church how to pray. We call the model prayer the Lord’s Prayer and there in nothing wrong with this.

The Lord’s Prayer consists of
An opening
A time of praise
6 requests
A doxology

I suppose along with John 3:16 and the 23rd Psalm this is the most quoted scripture in the bible.

What do you think?

-------

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that our church services will be marked by displays of supernatural power be it in healings, spiritual gifts, and lives that are dramatically changed by Jesus Christ.

July 23 - -God knows our prayer before we pray it

Matthew 6:8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

We don’t need to pray a lot of words explaining everything to God. You see God already knows what we want before we pray.

If God already know what we need before we pray they why do we need to pray? Why doesn’t God just give it to us?

Now that is a very good question and I suppose it has been asked many times. Let me give you a little illustration that might make it easier to understand.

You see when I was a young boy I would use Dads’ car on Saturday night. I would always ask him for it. Even though he knew I wanted to use the car, never once did he give me the car unless I asked. In the Book of James it tells us that we have not because we ask not.

Matthew 21:22 And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

It’s as simple as asking in prayer.

What do you think?

-------

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that visitors to the church will sense the love and compassion of Christ, expressed through every member of the congregation.

July 22 - -That they shall be heard for their much speaking

Matthew 6:7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

“Do not use vain repetitions”. Once I listened to a person pray a prayer that lasted over thirty minutes and everything that they prayed could have said in three.

Our beautiful prayers do not impress God. Have you ever said, “I wish I could pray a prayer like Billy Bob, he prays such beautiful prayers. We do not impress God with our beautiful prayers. God looks at the prayer being prayed from the heart not the words coming from the mouth.

When I am in dire need of prayer I would rather have a child pray a broken prayer from the heart then someone praying a beautiful prayer from the flesh.

One of the most powerful prayers I ever heard prayed was prayed in three words. “Jesus help me”.

What do you think?

-------

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that Jesus will be at the center of every ministry, service, and event that takes place within the church and congregation.

July 21 - -A good place to pray

Matthew 6:6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

Jesus goes on to tell us the proper way to pray. Jesus tells us that we are to enter into our closet when we pray.

Today when we use the word closet we think of the place where we hang our clothes but that is not what Jesus is speaking of here. Jesus is speaking of a closed place. A place away from all the distractions of the world, a place where we could be alone with God

Your closet can be anywhere. I find that when I'm driving my car is a good place to pray, for more than one reason. Driving to work or other places is a good time to be alone with God in prayer. Just be sure you keep your eyes open.

This is especially true when you’re setting in traffic. It gives you time to pray for those around you. The lady in the old car that look as if it is unable to run she looks like she’s having a hard time, pray for her. The man in the new car with those high car payment to make each month, pray for him. The lady with her children, pray for her that she will be a good mother and love and raise her children to love the Lord. I find this a great place to plray.

Where is your prayer closet?

------

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that the women in our church will serve as leaders and role models of strength, maturity, and ministry at the church, in their families, and in the community.

July 20 - - How not to pray

Matthew 6:5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

In these scriptures leading up to the Lord’s Prayer Jesus first teaches His disciples how not to pray. and then He goes on to tell them why.

Jesus said, that the hypocrites pray in the synagogues and in the streets, so men will see and hear them. Jesus tells them that they have” received their reward.” In other words if they are praying to be heard by men then that is the only one that will hear there prayer

Does that mean we should not pray aloud in church or in our prayer group? No it simply means that we need to direct our prayers to God and not to man

Have you ever sat in a prayer meeting trying to place together a prayer just in case you are called to pray? Yes we all have but is a prayer like that really being directed to God or is it being directed to those who will be hearing us pray?

Just a thought - - what do you think - - See you in Church

------

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that the men in our church will have a powerful impact on its ministries, and that they will provide godly leadership in their homes, the church, and throughout the community.

July 19 - - Do not pray as the hypocrites do.

Jesus told them that they are not to pray as the hypocrites do.

Will if we’re not to pray as the hypocrites do then I think we need to first look at what makes a person a hypocrite.

The Dictionary says
A person who pretends to have virtues, moral or religious beliefs, principles, etc., that he or she does not actually possess, especially a person whose actions belie stated beliefs.

A person who pretends they have faith in God, pretends to have moral or religious beliefs. A person who talks one way and lives another. The bible has a lot to say about this person. In this verse it tells me that his prayers will not be heard but the bible says even more about this kind of person.

Matthew 7:21-24
21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

I didn’t say it - - Jesus did.

What do you think?

------

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that God will bless the children of the church, protecting them from harm and helping them to grow strong in the Lord as they prepare for a lifetime of serving Christ.

July 18 - - A study in the Lord’s Prayer

Yes I know that I posted this study in the Lord’s Prayer in February of 13 but I believe that this might be a good time for us to look at it again. We have a lot of new followers of the Word who might find it helpful to them in their pray time.

Luke 11:1 And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.

We are always looking for the right way to pray. Looking for the words that will have our prayers answered.

The book of Daniel tells us that Daniel would stand at the window facing Jerusalem when he prayed (Daniel 6:10). In the Book of John the Samaritan woman asked Jesus the proper place to worship and pray. (John 4:19).

We are always looking for the right words. If we could just pray the right words then God would answer my prayers. It is not the words we pray, but what is in our hearts that God hears. “Man looks on the outward appearance but God looks upon the heart”.

“Jesus disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray”. If we were going to ask someone to teach us how to pray I can’t think of any one more capable of teach us than Jesus.

For the next few days I thought we might look at what Jesus had to say about prayer.

What do you think?

------

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that the youth in our church will stand strong for Christ in their schools and with their friends. Ask God to help each young person to follow His plan for their lives, both now and in the years to come.

July 17 - - "However, when the Son of Man comes”

Luke 18:8 - - - However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?

Believing in God, believing in prayer and believing God answers prayer is our act of faith. Will Jesus find this kind of faith when he comes?

Jesus told a parable of a widow being persistent and how she won the victory because she didn't give up hope. But what about us do we sometimes become discouraged when our prayers don’t seem to be answered? Do we stop praying, stop hoping, and stop expecting? Do we pull away from God and just give up, or will we be like the widow, and keep asking till God opens heaven with His response. Jesus told this parable that we might be encouraged.

"Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain." (1 Corinthians 15:58, RSV)

-------

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray for the shut-ins in our church, as well as those who are widowed and living alone. Ask God to bless and encourage them, anointing their lives with power for ministry as well as help for the needs they face daily.

July 16 - - The right answer at the right time

Luke 18:7 "Will he (God) keep putting them off? I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly"

Here we see Jesus applying the truth of this parable. As we look at this parable it would be easy for us to associate God with the unjust judge but we all know that God is not unjust. The point Jesus is make is that if an unjust judge could be moved by the persistence of the widow how much more would a just judge respond.

Often we cry, how long God before you answer our prayer? This is the question that is being asked in verse seven. But it is also being answered. No, God will not keep putting us off. God in his time will answer all our prayers.

It is easy to become discouraged or disappointed when the answer to our prayer does not come when we expect it. But God’s timing is always right, the right answer at the right time.

The right answer at the right time. That’s worth saying again.

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that believers throughout the church will grow in relationship with Christ as they follow the path of discipleship.

July 15 - - It says that she “kept coming.”

Luke 18:4-5 4 And he (the unjust judge) would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man; 5 Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.

This weak little widow is starting to wear down this powerful big judge. The word " troubleth" comes from a Greek word meaning to wear down or to browbeat. It could be that her coming before him repeatedly was hurting the judge’s reputation. He decided to grant her what she was due just to get rid of her.

Of course we understand that this is only a parable being told by Jesus. The parable related to those to whom it was being told. They could relate to the widow and how she was being treated and could rejoice in her receiving justice.

In no way is it saying that God is unjust. It is because of Gods justice that we need to call out for mercy. I tell you, he (God) will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?' " (18:6-8)

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that our church family will be united in our worship of God, fellowship with one another, and ministry to the community. Ask God to help believers confront and remove issues and problems that threaten this unity.

July 14 - - It says that she “kept coming.”

Luke 18:3 "And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, 'Grant me justice against my adversary.' "

“It says that she “kept coming.” This indicated a repeated action. She didn’t come just once, but many times. She kept calling out to the judge "Grant me justice.” The woman wasn’t asking for something that was not hers, she was asking only for justice. To be treated fairly under the law.

One thing you can say about her is that she wouldn’t take no for an answer. Every time court was in session, here she was asking, demanding the justice.

This parable is about being persistent in our praying, not calling out for justice as the widow did. For us to call out for justice would only bring condemnation. We call out for mercy that brings forgiveness.

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that marriages and family relationships throughout the congregation will be strengthened.

July 13 - - The widow kept coming to the judge

Luke 18:3 "And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, 'Grant me justice against my adversary.' "

A widow had little or no legal rights, When her husband died she had no legal rights to her husband’s estate. The estate would go to the male children and if she had no male children then it would go to her husband’s closes living male relative most often the older brother. Now if she had male children they would take care of her but if she was a widow with small children she might have to depend upon her family or in-laws for support. In some cases, she might manage the estate for her male children as a trustee until they become of age.

We do not know the complaint that the widow is bringing before the judge but we can see that the judge is not in sympathy with her. It appears that she has no legal counsel, as she pleads her own case. There is one thing we know about her -- she was persistent.

When it comes to prayer we need to keep on keeping on. Over and over till the heavens open and God answers our prayers. - - - What do you think?

See you in church

July 12 - -The judge never feared God

Luke 18:2 "He (Jesus) said: 'In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared about men.' "

Jesus introduces us to the judge in this parable by telling us something of this judges’ character. He says that the judge “neither feared God nor cared about man”. This does not sound like very good credentials for a judge.

But this judge neither "Feared God" refers to having faith in God. More than likely did not believe that God existed. “Nor cared about men,” this judge had no concern for those that came before his bench. He was concerned only with himself, his own opinions, his own comfort and his own income.

We could go off the deep end and start talking about our Judges and political leaders of today but we won’t. We don’t need to talk our government down because when we do we are talking ourselves down because we are the government. What we need to do is to pray for our judges and government leaders. Pray that they will seek God’s wisdom in the way they judge and carry out the law.

Today let us pray for our court system, locally as well as the state courts and the U. S. Supreme Court. Ask God’s blessing and guidance upon judges, and that they would look to Him for help and direction.

July 11 - - Pray till the answer comes

The Widow and the Unjust Judge (Luke 18:1-8) "Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up."

In this verse we see the parable being explained before it’s told. “Jesus says that they should always pray and not give up”. The word used here is the Greek for always, means “at all times”. At all times as in over and over till you receive an answer. That means that when we pray we should expect an answer.

Notice I said expect to receive an answer. I did not say receiving what you prayed for. God always knows what is best for us, and will always answer our prayers with His and our best interest at heart. Just as we do not always give our children everything they ask for this also holds true for God. I don’t know about you but I do know my kids ask for some of the strangest things and I have to often say no. With this in mind I can see were God might have to respond in this same way with some of the things that I ask for. But God always answers our prayers, and often when he says no, in one place he says yes in another giving us something even greater.

Jesus is teaching in this parable about persistent prayer as in praying again and again and again. We are to "pray without ceasing", as we see in 1 Thessalonians 5:17. We are to pray repeatedly, time and again, and over and over till the answer comes.

Oh by the way, the answer will come. Jesus said it would.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that marriages and family relationships throughout the congregation will be strengthened.

July 10 - - Always Pray and Don't Give Up

The parable of the Widow and the Unjust Judge (Luke 18:1-8) "Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up."

The world is full of injustice. There is the old saying “who said the world was fair”. At work people are promoted because they are the boss’s brother-in-law and the one best suited for the job is making the coffee. The courts are full of people who are seeking justice. Often times they receive justice but there are times when justice just does not come.

That is what this parable is all about, Justice. But that is not what this parable is teaching. It is teaching us how to pray.

Over and over in the Bible, Jesus teaches us that we are to be persistent in our prayers. Prayer is the most important thing a born-again Christian can do. It should head our list of priorities. The world around us desperately needs our prayers. Prayer will open the door for God to do a great work in our lives and in the lives of others.

In Luke’s Gospel the eighteenth chapter we see were Jesus uses a parable to teach the importance of persistent prayer.

This parable teaches on prayer but ends with a glimpse of the second coming of Christ. It is a parable on prayer but also a parable on hope. Man should not give up but should pray expecting to receive an answer.

Just how persistent are we when we pray?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. 2 Chronicles 714 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

July 9 - - What is Prayer?

Matthew 7:7-8 7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: 8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

Prayer is asking (verse 7) Ask and it shall be given to you. James tells us 'you have not because you ask not'. So we can say that prayer is asking but prayer is also receiving; (verse 8) For every one that asketh receiveth;

Prayer is talking with God, asking and receiving. Notice I said talking with God not talking to God. I have this good friend who calls to talk to me. I said talk to me not talk with me because I never get to say anything. He tells me what is on his mind then says goodbye. This is often the way we pray. We tell God what is on our mind and then say Amen.

We need to learn to lessen to God when we pray. Yes God does speak to us in prayer but we will never hear Him until we learn to lesson.

1 Kings 19:11-13King James Version (KJV)
11 And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake: 12 And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice. 13 And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?

“a still small voice” The still small voice of the Lord. Yes God does speak to us in prayer.

For the next few days let us pray for our city, state, and nation. Pray for a supernatural move of God across our nation, bringing a new sense of revival and trust in God.

July 8 - - The prayer of two men

Luke 18:13-14 13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. 14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

Now lets look at the other prayer. The prayer that did reach God. The publican came to God in great humility. The Pharisee told God all the reasons God should answer his prayer the publican told God all the reasons God should not answer his prayer.

The publican told God that he was a sinner and that he had no right to ask God for his need. Then the publican prayed the prayer we all should pray the publican prayed for forgiveness and mercy.

Let me ask the question. Which of these prayers do you believe reached God?
Jesus tells us in verse 14 that " - - - this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted".

I love that word “justified” - - just as if he had never sinned. That the way God forgives sin, just as if you had never sinned.

What a great forgiving and merciful God.

For the next few days let us pray for our city, state, and nation. Pray for God’s protection and provision for our military. Ask that He especially bless and protect those serving in dangerous places and performing dangerous jobs. Ask for His blessing on soldiers and their families as they deal with issues of separation and loneliness.

July 7 - - The prayer of two men

Luke 18:10 10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. 11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. 12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. 13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.

Both men went to the same place, at the same time, for the same reason and that was to pray.

The Pharisee prayed in his religious pride. Not asking God but telling or demanding God to answer his prayer because of who he was and the way he lived. I know we would never do this. But the Bible is full of prayer promises. There are those that when they pray they hold these promise in front of God demanding God to do what He promised to do. Just be careful what you wave in front of God. Oh by the way God will keep his promises.

We need to understand that most promises from God come with a condition. You do this and God will do that. If a promise is not keep it is never God’s fault we need to check to see if we keep the condition.

God loves to answer your prayers.

For the next few days let us pray for our city, state, and nation. Pray for our court system, locally as well as the state courts and the U. S. Supreme Court. Ask God’s blessing and guidance upon judges, and that they would look to Him for help and direction.

July 6 - - Some prayers are never answered.

There are two kinds of prayers of request. The prayer that we pray and have the assurance that God will answer. But even then prayers are not always the way we would have them answered. Some prayers are answered the way we ask. Then some are answered the way God would have them answered. God's way is always the best way. Then some prayers are answered by God saying no.

Then we have the prayer that does not reach God and are never answered. We see this in the parable of the Pharisee and the publican (Luke 18:10-14).

Of the two prayers prayed which of the two was not answered? I’ll give you a clue. Luke 8:14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

See you in church

For the next few days let us pray for our city, state, and nation. Pray for members of the U. S. Congress and Senate, including our own, asking God to provide for them and help them. Pray as well that they will look to God for direction and guidance as they help to lead the nation.

July 5 - - God can do all things.

Jeremiah 32:27 Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there anything too hard for me?

Prayer is man's acknowledgment of who God is. Prayer is man’s acknowledgment of God being higher and greater than man. Prayer is man’s acknowledgement of God being able to change the situation. Prayer is man’s acknowledgement that God is able to bring health and healing.

So when it look like there is no salutation to our problem we turn to God this Higher Being in prayer to do the impossible.

Jeremiah 32:27 Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there anything too hard for me?

For the next few days let us pray for our city, state, and nation. Pray for the President and cabinet, that they will look to God for guidance, help, and wisdom.

July 4 - - Let’s talk about prayer

Prayer is as old as man himself. As long as man has been around man has prayed. We see prayer mentioned in the Bible as early as Genesis. 4:26. That would be on about the third or fourth page of your Bible.

Genesis. 4:26 And to Seth, to him also was born a son; and he called his name Enosh. Then people began to call on the name of Jehovah.

After Cane slue Able, Eve had another son whose name was Seth. It says that people began to call upon the name of Jehovah. Then people began to pray.

There are all kinds of prayers. Prayers of thanksgiving, prayers of praise and worship, prayers of intercession and prayers of request. I would like for us to look at the prayer of request. Now in Genesis 4:6 when it speaks of “the people calling upon Jehovah” I believe they are calling upon God because they have a need.

Most prayer’s that are prayed today are prayed because of man’s need. In many cases this is the only time man prays. Even people who calm that they do not believe in God when they find themselves in a threatening situation will turn to prayer. How does the old saying go “you won’t find an atheist in a fox hole.”

Jesus tells us in the Lord’s Prayer to pray for our daily needs. “Give us this day our daily bread”. (Matthew 6:11).

Praying for our daily needs is a good prayer to pray. I heard a preacher once say that the most powerful pray you can pray is LORD HELP ME.

What do you think?

For the next few days let us pray for our city, state, and nation. Pray that God will provide for those who are hurting and in need, both locally and nationally. Ask that He move on the hearts of believers to help meet needs in as much as they are able to do so.

July 3 - - Why I should Pray

Because Jesus said, “at all times they ought to pray (Luke 18:1). And he spake a parable unto them to this end,that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;

Because you are commanded to pray (Matthew 26:41) Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

Because prayer is the way God provides for out needs. (James 4:2). Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.

Because there is joy in prayer (John 16:24). Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

Because prayer will save you out of all your troubles (Psalms 34:6). This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all of his troubles.

Because prayer can unlock the treasure chest of God's wisdom (James 1:5). If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

Because prayer is a channel of power (Jeremiah 33:3). Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.

Because it is a sin not to pray (1 Samuel 12:23). Moreover as for me, God forbid that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you: but I will teach you the good and the right way:

Because sinners can be saved when they pray in faith (Romans 10:13, 14). For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

Because Jesus, while here in the flesh, prayed often to the Father. Now, if Jesus, the Son of God, needed to pray, then we should also pray. (1Thessalonians 5-17). Pray without ceasing.

For the next few days let us pray for our city, state, and nation. Pray for the governor, as well as state senate and congressional members and leaders.

July 2 - - Watching and praying

Nehemiah 4:17-18 They all builded the wall and they that bare burdens laded themselves; every one with one of his hands wrought in the work, and with the other held his weapon; 18 and the builders, every one had his sword girded by his side, and so builded. And he that sounded the trumpet was by me.

Here we see the building of the wall in Jerusalem. There were two groups of people that were working on the wall. They were the ones that were doing the building. They worked with one hand and held a sword with the other. Then there was the other group. They walk the wall and watch for the enemy. When they saw the enemy coming they would sounded the trumpet.

Not much has changed. We are busy doing the work with one hand and holding a sword with the other. We are busy trying to raise our families, working our jobs, doing what we are called upon to do by our church and all the time we are doing these things we are also busy praying and watching for the enemy.

The enemy is that person or things that seemed to come from nowhere to steal from us and our family. Someone else getting the promotion, just about time we get a few dollars ahead the furnace goes out, the car needs new tires. Working and praying. Work with one hand and pray with the other. Then we have the prayer warrior, that person who is called to walk the wall and watch for the enemy, watching and praying. That special person we go to when we need someone to pray for us.

We are all called to pray, be it building with one hand and holding a sword with the other or being a prayer warrior and walking the wall and watching for the enemy.

I’m talking about praying, not saying a prayer but praying. I mean pouring our hearts out to God. Praying and watching. I don't believe we truly understand the power of prayer. If we did I believe we would be praying. Most often we try everything before we ever pray when prayer should be the first thing we do.

Tell me what do you think?

For the next few days let us pray for our city, state, and nation. Pray for county leaders and officials, seeking God for provision and protection in their lives.

Note: The test has been run on my legs and two stents were put into place. Thank to each of you for your prayers. I seem to be recovering well and I can walk again. Praise and glory be given to the Lord our God.

July 1- - You have not because you ask not

James 4:2 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.

I would like for us to spend just a little time today talking about prayer. Everyone has a different opinion as to the proper way to pray, but I don’t believe that this is a problem mostly because I believe that God hears the prayer of the heart and not so much the words we speak. I believe the problem most of us have is that we just don’t pray. It is believed that most Christians don’t pray till they have a need in their lives.

1 Samuel 16:7 - - - for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.

I once heard it said that it is like this big warehouse in heaven that is bursting with wonderful answers to prayers that are never picked-up simply because the prayer was never prayed. Often those with a need never ask for help simply because they don't really believe they can be helped, or that they deserve to be helped, or that the mighty power that created the universe could possibly be concerned about their little human difficulties. So the answer to their prayer is sitting in heaven waiting for their prayer to be prayed.

I would hate to think that the answer to my prayer and the answer to your prayer in sitting in heavens warehouse waiting for our prayer to be prayed.

James says it like this - - - “yet ye have not, because ye ask not”.

For the next few days let us pray for our city, state, and nation. Pray that God will bless the efforts of business leaders and owners throughout the city, that economic conditions and employment will be strong.

June 29- - Pass the Salt, Please

Matthew 5:13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

First let us look at 2nd Kings 2:19-21 19 And the men of the city said unto Elisha, Behold, I pray thee, the situation of this city is pleasant, as my lord seeth: but the water is naught, and the ground barren. 20 And he said, Bring me a new cruse, and put salt therein. And they brought it to him. 21 And he went forth unto the spring of the waters, and cast the salt in there, and said, Thus saith the LORD, I have healed these waters; there shall not be from thence any more death or barren land.

The well in the city had become polluted so the leaders of the city called for Elisha. Elisha didn't call a fast or prayer Elisha said, “Bring me a bowl full of salt." Then Elisha cast the salt into the water. That little bowl of salt healed the water forever.

What is it about salt that makes it so important in daily life? We know that the human body cannot live without salt. Salt is essential to life. We also know that salt must be replenished daily.

This is also true of the spiritual body yet many Christians live there entire life without a grain of spiritual salt. Do you suppose this is what David is trying to tell us in Psalm 34;8 O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.

Jesus said “we are to be the salt of the earth” that would be our neighborhood and our city. That would be everyone we come in contact with daily. We are to flavor the world with the love of Jesus.

We are to flavor the world with the love of Jesus. I know I said it twice, I meant too.

See you in Church

For the next few days let us pray for our city, state, and nation. Pray that God will bring provision, help, and protection into the lives of teachers throughout the city.

June 28- - Jesus in me

2 Corinthians 5 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

We often think of the Christian life as a changed life, a substituted life with Jesus as our substitute living within us.

Galatians 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

This new life that we now have is not something that we produce but it is the life of Jesus Himself being reproduced in us. The life of Jesus being reproduced in us means that this new life, this Jesus life that we now have will grow until the very likeness of Jesus is reproduced in us.

Now how good it this - - - Jesus reproducing Himself in me?

Thank you Jesus
For the next few days let us pray for our city, state, and nation. Pray that God will provide help and protection to law enforcement and firefighters throughout the city.

June 27- - Reckon yourselves to be dead unto sin.

Romans 6:11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

It says reckon yourselves to be dead. Let me tell you something about being dead. When a person is dead they will not respond to anything going on around them. Things around them will not have any effect on them at all.

You can smack a person who is dead, you can insult a person who is dead, in fact there is not anything that you can say or do that will bring about any kind of a response from a person who is dead.

Reckon yourselves to be dead to sin. That is how we are to respond to sin. No matter how sin comes to us we are to respond as being dead unto it. Sin will no longer have any power over us.

Romans 3:23 The wages of sin is death.
When we speak of the death in Romans 3:23 we are speaking of separation from God. So if were dead unto sin then sin will no longer have the power to separate us from God.

What a great verse. It says “Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord”. Not only are we dead unto sin but we are alive unto God”.

Thank you Jesus

For the next few days let us pray for our city, state, and nation. Pray that God will give wisdom and direction to the mayor, city council, and all other city leaders.

June 26- - Jesus did it all

1 Thessalonians 5:24 Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.

Jesus is the one who calls us unto himself but Jesus is also the one who does what he calls us to be. The one who died for us now lives in us.

Philippians 2:13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

This is so hard for us to understand. You see we have this thing in us that makes us want to do it ourselves. I recall my children at a very young age shouting “let me do it”. So when I am told that Jesus did it and Jesus is doing it I find it hard to let go and let Jesus do it.

Everything need for my salvation has been done for us by Jesus and everything I need to life the life that Jesus called me to live has already been done for me by Jesus. The only thing left for me to do is to believe.

At last I found something I can do. I can believe.

For the next few days let us pray for our city, state, and nation. Pray that people throughout the city will open their hearts to the voice of God, and grasp that He has a loving and eternal plan for their lives.

Note: I have been seeing a few doctors and it looks as if they may be doing quite a few tests on me for the next few weeks. I hope it will not interfere with posting the devotional but if it does you need to know why.

June 25- - He that receives you receives me

Matthew 10:40 He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.

The relationship we have with Jesus should be so close that it would be impossible to separate the two of us. Jesus tells us in this scripture that when they receive you they are also receiving me and when they receive me that are also receiving the Father who sent me.

Jesus in the Father and the Father in Jesus. Jesus in me and I am in Jesus. All of us one in each other.

John 14:19-20 Jesus said to His disciples, “After a little while the world will no longer see Me, but you will see Me; because I live, you will live also. In that day you will know that I AM IN MY FATHER, AND YOU IN ME, AND I IN YOU.

Just remember whatever we do and wherever we go Jesus is with us. That can be good but that can also - - - - depending on whatever we do and wherever we go.

What do you think?

June 24- - Confess Jesus before man

Matthew 19:32 Whosoever therefore shall confess me (Jesus) before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.

Our relationship with the Father depends on our relationship with Jesus. If we confess or I could say profess Jesus before men then Jesus will profess us before the Heavenly Father. It all depends on how we respond to the call of Jesus on our lives.

I don’t know about you but one thing I do know is that I want Jesus to profess me before the Father. There is no such thing as an undercover Christian. We are required to profess Jesus openly.

I can do that - - - - -can you?

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that God will grant the pastoral leadership a strong sense of vision for the church and congregation.

June 23- - You must be born again

John 3:1-3 3 There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: 2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. 3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

It was almost as if Jesus did not hear what Nicodemus was saying Nicodemus was talking about what a great teacher Jesus was and the miracles Jesus has done but Jesus answered by saying “YOU MUST BE BORN AGAIN”.

Jesus went straight to the point. I think we can learn a lot by what Jesus did. The Good News of the Gospel is all about being born again.
Just as a man enters into the physical world by physical birth man enters the spiritual world by spiritual birth. That is why Jesus said you must be born again. One becomes a spiritual being, a child of God when one is born again.

John 3:9-10, 14-18 9 Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be? 10 Jesus answered and said unto him, - - - .14 - - - as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: 15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Wow, I can do that, - - - - - - How about you, have you been born again?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that God will grant the pastoral leadership vision and guidance regarding the ministry gifts and callings of each member of the congregation, that they might use those gifts to the fullness of their potential.

June 22- - Jesus is God

Hebrews 1:1-3 1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, 2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; 3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high:

Three great verses telling us about Jesus.

The first verse tells us that in times past God spoke to us by the prophets. The second verse tells us that now in the last days, the days we are in now, God speaks to us through the teachings of Jesus. It goes on to tell us that Jesus created the universe and that Jesus is heir to everything that He created. In other words all things were made by Jesus and for Jesus.

Verse three tells us that Jesus is a reflection of the brightness of the Father’s glory and the exact likeness of the Father’s own being. That Jesus sustains the universe with His powerful word. It goes on to tell us that after Jesus achieved forgiveness for our sins that He sat down in heaven at the right side of the Father the Supreme Power.

Our God (Jesus) is an awesome God, He reigns from Heaven above. With wisdom power and love, Our God is an awesome God.

It doesn’t get any better than this.

See you in church.

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that the pastoral leadership will be blessed with the guidance and anointing of the Holy Spirit.

June 21- - Jesus is the way

John 14:6 6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Jesus said “I am the way”. I don’t know the number of time that I have been told that all roads lead to heaven. That all you need do is to try to lead a good life and be sincere in what you believe and you will make it in. I even heard a well know TV preacher once say that we all believe in the same god we just call him by different names.

Will don’t you believe it. There is only one way and Jesus tells us that “He is the way” the only way.

Jesus tells us that “He is truth and He is life and no man cometh unto the Father, but by Him”

So I suppose we had better be careful what we believe. All roads do not lead to heaven. Jesus is the way the only way.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that God will help the pastoral staff develop strong relationships with other pastors and churches in the community, as well as with community leaders.

June 20- - Rejoice by choice

Psalm 118:24 This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.

Wow what a bible verse and what a way to start the day. First we are starting the day in praise to the God who created everything. Giving God praise for this day, the today that we are in now and all that it holds for us.

Then it tells us that we have a say into what kind of day it is going to be. It tells us that we can choice to rejoice and be glad or we can choice not to rejoice and be glad. The way we accept the day has a lot to do with what kind of day it will be.

I had a pastor who once said that we REJOICE BY CHOICE.

What do you think?

June 19- - They Are Because We Are

1 Kings 15 verse 26 "But he did what was evil in the LORD's sight and followed the example of his father, continuing the sins of idolatry that Jeroboam had led Israel to commit."

The key word in this verse is example. I think sometimes we can forget that every action we take is an example to others. We are either exampling godly behavior or ungodly behavior. Obviously Jeroboam exampled ungodly behavior - and unfortunately, since he was king of Israel, his bad example had far-reaching effects.

Even though we are not kings, I do believe that our examples have a bigger impact than we realize. Our kids, our parents, our neighbors, our co-workers, the stranger on the street, the person at the coffee shop, are all watching what we do. How we behave. Our very lives are examples to many people each and every day.

What type of example are we setting by the way we live?

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that God will strengthen and bless family relationships among our pastoral staff.

June 18 - - It took both Love and Hate

Matthew 12:14 14 Then the Pharisees went out, and held a council against him (Jesus), how they might destroy him.

The ministry of Jesus was mixed with those that loved Him and followed Him and those that despised Him and plotted to kill Him

Both were very important in His ministry. Jesus came to show the love of God but Jesus also came to die on the cross.

It took both love and hate to complete His ministry.

This was the beginning of the end to which Jesus was called. Jesus came to be nailed to the cross. Jesus came to take the punishment for our sin

Hebrews 9:22 (New American Standard)22 And according to the Law, one may almost say, all things are cleansed with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.

June 17 - - Man does not live by Bread alone

Matthew 4:4 Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.

Love that scripture. It tells us that in the same way bread feeds the body the Word of God feeds the spirit. Next to drinking water eating is the most important thing we can do for our body but a great number of us (present company excluded I hope) will often go days without feeding the spirit.

So my question would be “what is more important, feeding the body that is going to die or feeding the spirit that is going to live forever”?

What do you think?

June 16 - - Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?

Matthew 12:9-10 9 And when he was departed thence, he went into their synagogue: 10 And, behold, there was a man which had his hand withered. And they asked him, saying, is it lawful to heal on the sabbath days? that they might accuse him.

The value of life overrules all rules, regulation or restrictions. The value of life even overrules the law.

Suppose you saw someone drowning and then you saw a sign saying no swimming. Would you break the law and swim out and try to save the person drowning or would you obey the law and let the person drown?

Now that’s a real stupid question. Of course we would break the law and try to save the person who is drowning. But isn’t that exactly what we are seeing here.

We see the Pharisees demanding that Jesus keep the law of the Sabbath and let the man with the withered had remain sick. But we see Jesus setting aside the law and ministering to a person who is in need.

I said set aside the law I didn’t say break the law. Jesus knew that this was not the law given by God but simply a law that the Pharisee had created.

We have a saying at my house and it goes like this. “PEOPLE ARE MORE IMPORTANT THEN THINGS”.

What do you think?

June 15 - - Happy Father’s Day

How can we celebrate Father’s Day without turning our thoughts to our Heavenly Father? So what I would like for us to do is to stop and think about the Goodness of our Heavenly Father.

We give gifts to our earthly Father but what kind of a gift could we give to our Heavenly Father, the One who not only has everything but the One who created everything.

1 Samuel 15:22 "Samuel said, "Has the LORD as much delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices As in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice"

Why not give our Heavenly Father what He wants, our obedience. It tells us in this verse that God desires our obedience better than sacrifice.

See you in Church.

June 14 - - The reason for the miracle.

Mark 2:10-12 10 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,) 11 I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house. 12 And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion.

Jesus’ purpose for coming was to transform and change lives. Not everyone understood this. So when Jesus spoke words like “your sins are forgiven” people began to question who Jesus was. So Jesus often needed to resort to a miracle in order for them to understand that He was and is God.

Jesus said, “so that you might know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins” he spoke to the paralyzed man and said, "I tell you, get up, pick up your mat, and go home!"

So you see the miracle of healing was for the purpose of showing the people that He had the power to forgive sin.

I am so glad that Jesus has the power to heal and I am so very glad that Jesus has the power to forgive sin.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that God will strengthen and bless family relationships among our pastoral staff.

June 13 - - Purpose for the healing

Mark 2:10-12 10 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,) 11 I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house. 12 And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion.

There is more to this story than a paralyzed man being healed. What we are really seeing is Jesus doing the work of the Father. This is about Jesus doing what He was sent to do.

The reason for the healing and the reason for Jesus leaving heaven and becoming a man and dwelling among us can be found in Luke 4:18-19.

"The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me (or sent me) to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor" (Luke 4:18, 19).

Nothing has changed. This is still the reason that Jesus came. The reason Jesus came 2000 years ago and the reason that Jesus comes to each of us today.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that the lives of our pastoral staff will be marked by integrity and godliness.

June 12 - - Thinking to themselves

Mark 2:6 6 Some teachers of the Law who were sitting there - thought to themselves

“Thinking to themselves” sometimes, can get us into a whole lot of trouble. Thinking to yourself can lead to sin or can become a blessing. I suppose it all depends on what we’re thinking. Every action first must become a thought. We think it and then we do it.

Mark describes the religious leaders as "sitting there, thinking to themselves." Jesus asked them, "Why are you thinking these things?" Jesus 'looked into their minds and saw what they were thinking'.

What does God see when he looks into our mind? Psalm 139 says that there is nothing you can hide from God.

Psalm 139:2 You know everything I do; from far away you understand all my thoughts. 3 You see me, whether I am working or resting; you know all my actions. 4 Even before I speak, you already know what I will say. 5 You are all around me on every side; you protect me with your power. 6 Your knowledge of me is too deep; it is beyond my understanding. 7 Where could I go to escape from you? Where could I get away from your presence? 8 If I went up to heaven, you would be there; if I lay down in the world of the dead, you would be there. 9 If I flew away beyond the east or lived in the farthest place in the west, 10 you would be there to lead me, you would be there to help me. 11 I could ask the darkness to hide me or the light around me to turn into night, 12 but even darkness is not dark for you, and the night is as bright as the day. Darkness and light are the same to you.

What are you thinking?

Jesus asked them, "Why are you thinking these things?"

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that the lives of our pastoral staff will be marked by integrity and godliness.

June 11 - - Run to the door or run to the altar

Mark 2:5-7 5 When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee. 6 Some teachers of the Law who were sitting there - thought to themselves, 7 "How does he dare talk like this? This is blasphemy! God is the only one who can forgive sins!"

Now the first thing I would like to say is “GOD CAN DO ANYTHING HE CHOOSES TO DO”.

Now it was the statement that Jesus made that raised a problem with the religious leaders. I am so glad that were not that way today. I am so glad that we don’t get upset when we see Jesus move in a way that we had never seen Him move before.

I was wondering what would happen if we saw Jesus move in a miracles way in one of our churches today. If Jesus touched in such a way that a person was completely healed in front of the church. I was wondering how many would run for the door and how many would run for the altar.

Just a thought - - - What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that the lives of our pastoral staff will be marked by integrity and godliness.

June 10 - - God answers prayers His way.

Mark 2:5 5 When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.

Jesus said “thy sins are forgiven”. This is not what they were praying for. They were praying for a healing. Often God does not answer prayers our way. We pray one way and God answers another way.

They prayed for healing and Jesus answered by forgiving the person of their sin. Now what was more important, the healing or the forgiveness of sin. Healing is only for now but forgiveness of sin is for eternity.

I know what you’re going to say, but brother Herb Jesus did heal the man. Yes Jesus did heal the man but in proper order, first the forgiveness and then the healing.

Forgiveness of sin and salvation should always be part of our prayer. We need always pray for a person’s salvation first.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that the pastoral staff will remain bold in proclaiming spiritual truth, even when it is unpopular to do so.

June 9 - - Faith

Mark 2:5 5 When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.

“When Jesus saw their faith”, faith is the key word in this verse. Faith plays a big part in prayer. So if faith is so important then don’t you think we need to stop and ask the question – what is faith?

Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

First faith is a substance. What is a substance? The dictionary says that substance is the actual matter of a thing, as opposed to the appearance or shadow of reality. It is the material a thing is made up of.

So faith is the substance that we build or hope on and the evidence that what we do not see is actually their.

How does the old saying go? “Seeing is believing” but with faith it is “believing is seeing”.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that God will protect the hearts of our pastor staff and families against the deception and lure of impure thoughts and deeds.

June 8 - - Roof tearing prayers

Mark 2;3-4 3 And they come unto him, bringing one sick of the palsy, which was borne of four. 4 And when they could not come nigh unto him for the press, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay.

When I look at this scripture and the four men trying to get their friend to Jesus I can’t help but think of intercessory prayer. Praying for a friend who is sick or who is in need. Praying, as in taking this person to Jesus.

These four men were determined to get their friend to Jesus. They knew that if they could get to Jesus that Jesus could and would heal their friend. They tried the front door thin I believe they tried the back door and then the windows. They were not going to give up. Then they got a ladder and went to the roof. They knew it would involve a cost if they tore up the roof but they were determined to get to get their friend to Jesus. So they tore a hole in the roof and lowered the man down to Jesus.

When I read this I wonder just how determined we are when we pray for a friend. Do we pray and the stop or do we pray, what I like to call roof tearing prayer.

That’s the kind of prayer I want to be able to pray. Lord please make me into a roof tearing prayer warrior.

See you in church

June 7 - - Jesus preached the Word.

Mark 2 And again he entered into Capernaum after some days; and it was noised that he was in the house. 2 And straightway many were gathered together, insomuch that there was no room to receive them, no, not so much as about the door: and he preached the word unto them.

I love the last part of this verse “And He preached the Word unto them”. People today still have a hunger for the Word of God.

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

PSALM 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

A lamp unto my feet so that I will not stumble and fall and a light unto my path showing me the right way to go

Now how great is that?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray for a powerful anointing of the Holy Spirit upon our pastoral leadership.

June 6 - - The house was full

Mark 2 And again he entered into Capernaum after some days; and it was noised that he was in the house. 2 And straightway many were gathered together, insomuch that there was no room to receive them, no, not so much as about the door: and he preached the word unto them.

In Mark 2 we see a large crowd had gathered seeking Jesus. It says “in as much as there was no room to receive them”. They were there seeking Jesus. I have often said that when we start preaching Jesus we won’t be able to build churches fast enough to hold the people.

People are seeking Jesus. They are seeking Jesus in their marriage. They are seeking Jesus in their jobs. They are seeking Jesus in the raising of their children. People are seeking Jesus.

John 12:32 Jesus said, “And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me”.

Our part is to lift Jesus up. Jesus part is to draw all men unto Him. How hard is this to understand?

What do you think?

June 5 - - Worth saving

Romans 5:8 God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

One day while working in the yard, I found a coin. I picked it up and noticed how it was caked with dirt and grime. I felt it was not worth my time to try to clean it up. Then the thought occurred to me that even though the coin was dirty, it had not lost its value.

Often we stop and wonder how God could love such a person as me. It seems as if I keep falling short of what God would have me to be. Often I look at myself as I looked at the coin that I found, to dirty to keep. But just like this coin, even though I have been soiled by sin I have not lost my value in the sight of God.

“While we were still sinners, Christ died for us”.

Even though we were/are soiled by sin God still felt we were worth saving.

What do you think?

A word from the Word

June 4 - - Do not envy sinners

Proverbs 23:17-18 - Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the LORD all the day long. For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off.

“Let not thine heart envy sinners”. This would be those that have gotten their gain or fame by sinful means. There are many wealthy or successful people in the world. Many of them have gained their wealth or success by means that were just down right evil. This verse tells me that we are not to envy them and what they have but we are to be in “fear of the Lord”.

What does it mean to be in “fear of the Lord”? Fear of the Lord as used here is to show and have reverence for the Lord. Not to envy what man has gained by sinful ways but to put your trust and reverence in God knowing God will provide for you.

It says that surely there is future hope for those that fear the Lord, and there hope will not be cut off.

My question would be, if the hope of those THAT FEAR THE LORD WILL NOT be cut off does that mean that the hope of those that DO NOT FEAR THE LORD will be cut off?

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray for members of the congregation battling physical illness or emotional struggles, or facing spiritual needs. Ask God to minister to them in miraculous ways.

A word from the Word

June 3 - - If God said you can do it then you can do it.

Exodus 4:10-12 And Moses said unto the LORD, O my LORD, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue. 11 And the LORD said unto him, Who hath made man's mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the LORD? 12 Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say.

Have you ever feel inadequate in the things God has called you to do? Will I know I have. I sometimes feel that if I try to do something that God is calling me to do that I will make a mess of it.

Well Moses felt the same way. I like what God said to Moses “Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say.”?

Who would know more about you and what you are able to do then God the one who made you. So if God has called you to do something don’t you not think that God would know if you are able to do it?

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that our church services will be marked by displays of supernatural power be it in healings, spiritual gifts, and lives that are dramatically changed by Jesus Christ.

If you believe that Jesus Christ is God’s Son, and accept Him as your Savior, you will not have to pay the eternal penalty for your sins because Jesus paid that penalty for you when He died on the cross.

August 21 - - Psalm 139 - David’s prayer of Praise #4

Then David says
Psalm 139:7 Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?

Where do you hide from a God that knows everything about you?

David says if I go way up into the highest part of the heavens, God you are there; if I dig a hole and go into the deepest part of the earth, God you are there. Then He says if I fly on the wings of the dawn, and go to the far side of the sea or the other side of the world, God is even there

This can be a good thing because it goes on to say, even there in the highest place or in the lowest place, even on the other side of the world, God you will guide me and take care of me. Your right hand will hold me.

It is great to know that God is always with me. It is great to know that I am never alone.

Hebrews 13:5 5 - - - - “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”

August 20 - - Psalm 139 - David’s prayer of Praise #3

Psalm 139:6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it.

Our mind is too small to really understand God. It is like trying to put a watermelon into a Dixie cup. It's just not going to fit.

We try so hard to understand who God is but the truth is we never will. So what we can't understand we must except by faith.

August 19 - - Psalm 139 - David’s prayer of Praise #2

Psalm 139:3-5 3 Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways.
4 For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, thou knowest it altogether.
5 Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me.

God knows everything going on in our lives. God knows where we are and God knows how we feel. God knows when we’re not feeling good and when we feel great. God knows when we are lonely and when were depressed and sad. God is aware of everything going on in our lives

I think David sums it up in this next verse when he says “Such knowledge is too wonderful for me to even understand and too lofty for me to attain”.

What do you think?

Pray for revival. - - Today let us pray for our city that the people throughout the city will open their hearts to the voice of God, and grasp that He has a loving and eternal plan for their lives.

16 August 16 - - Psalm 139 - David’s prayer of Praise #1

Psalm 139:1 O lord, thou hast searched me, and known me.

David begins his prayer of praise by praying “God hast searched me and known me”. Are you ready to do as David did and open your whole life up to God? To allow God to search you and know you. Are their things in your life that you would rather not allow God to know? Will if there is I have some bad news for you God already know about them.

I think that this is what makes this Psalm so fantastic. It tells us that God knows everything about us.

So did David give God an invitation to search him and know him? No I don’t think so. It says that God already searched him and God already knows him the same way He already knows us.

What do you think?

August 15 - - Jesus in the Temple #7

2 Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him (Jesus) to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

It is as simple as this; Jesus became our sin and took the punishment for our sins on the cross but not only were our sins forgiven we were also given the righteousness of Jesus. It is this righteousness of Jesus that makes us right with God. Jesus became our sin we became the righteousness of Jesus.

It is by the righteousness of Jesus that we enter into the reward of Heaven. So when we stand before God He will ask us if we have any righteousness. God will tell us that we will be unable to enter Heaven without righteousness which means “being right with God”.

When we stand before God we will be able to say --- Yes I have righteousness I have the righteousness of your Son Jesus who gave it to me on the cross.

Luke 2:49 And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?

There it is again. Jesus said “Don’t you know I must be about My Fathers Business. The last part of July we talked in great deal about the Fathers Business. Over and over in God’s Word we see Jesus telling us the reason He came.

Luke 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
Luke 4:19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

And let us not forget that Jesus came to take our place on the cross. The cross was not prepared for Jesus it was prepared for us. It was our sins that nailed Jesus to the Cross.

2 Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him (Jesus) to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Luke 2:48 And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing.
Luke 2:49 And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?

Mary asks Jesus "why have you done this to us?"

Jesus' reply was not what you might expect form a young boy. "Why are you searching for Me, don't you know I must be about my father work?" Jesus knew he was to honor his mother and so when she told him to return home he did so.

At the beginning of this scripture it says that Jesus grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him. Jesus didn't become the Son of God when He was born in Bethlehem. Jesus didn't become the Son of God when He was twelve years old in the temple.

Jesus was in the beginning. In the beginning before anything was there was “the Word - Jesus”. Before the world was there was “the Word – Jesus”. Before the angels were there was “the Word- Jesus”. Before anything was there was “the Word- Jesus”. And the Word - Jesus was with God and “the Word - Jesus was and is God”. Everything that was made was made by 'the Word - Jesus' and “In the Word - Jesus was life” and it is this life that was in the Word - Jesus that gave life to each of us.

What do you think?

Luke 2:47 And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.

No wonder they were astonished at His understanding of the law. They were talking not only to the one that understood the law but the one who gave them the law. They were talking to the one who not only knew about God, but who was and is God.

The story does not end in a temple with a young boy who is the “Word that became flesh”. This is the story of God who became man that He might take upon Himself the sin of the world. This is the “Word that became flesh” that now lives in my heart and I hope your heart.

August 9- - Jesus in the Temple #3

Luke 2:43 And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it. 44 But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day's journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance. 45 And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him.46 And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions. 47 And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.

Now Mary and Joseph had started home thinking that Jesus was with others in the family. As they walked along it was common for the men to walk together with the men and the women to walk with the women. It wasn't until evening when Mary and Joseph came together that they noticed that Jesus was not with them.

They were a full day’s journey from Jerusalem or about twenty miles from the city. Mary and Joseph must have been sick with worry not knowing where Jesus was. Early the next morning Mary and Joseph hurried back to Jerusalem, but it was evening when they finally arrived. They searched three days before they found Jesus in the temple with the teachers of the law. All that heard Jesus were astonished at his understanding. How could a 12 year old child know so much about Jewish Law?

How could a 12 year old child know so much about Jewish Law? Now this is a very good question. Could it be that Jesus was not really 12 years old?

John 1:1,14 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

The Word that was in the beginning took on the form of a human man. The Word that was in the beginning became the man Jesus. So was Jesus really just 12 years old or was he eternal having no beginning?

What do you think?

Pray for revival. - - Today let us pray for wisdom and leadership for the pastoral staff in dealing with the challenges of ministry, be they physical, emotional, or spiritual.

Jesus in the Temple #2

Luke 2:42 And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast.

This was an exciting week for Jesus. Many new and exciting things were taking place. There was worship and sacrifices offered at the temple. This year Jesus would be able to participate.

Jesus must have walked through the city watching and looking at all that was taking place. Jesus knew that this was a special city and He knew that the Temple was a very special place. The Temple was very special because Jesus knew it was the House of His Father. When Jesus entered the Temple He noticed the teaching that was taking place.

Jesus was and is God in Incarnate, God in the form of a man. So when Jesus entered the temple it became a special time, a time of being in His Father’s house.

We no longer need to go to the temple or church to be in the Fathers house we are now the Fathers House.

1 Corinthians 6 :19 19 What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

What do you think?

Pray for revival. - - Today let us pray for a powerful anointing of the Holy Spirit upon our pastoral leadership.

August 7- - Jesus in the Temple #1

Luke 2:40 And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him.
Luke 2:41 Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the passover.
Luke 2:42 And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast.

Each year men, woman and children made the journey to Jerusalem to celebrate the Passover. This year it was especially exciting for Jesus because He was 12 Years old. His twelfth year was when He would be considered a man and would begin to observe the laws required of all Jewish men

The Passover was a weeklong celebration marking the day God had freed the Hebrew people from slavery in Egypt. Moses, the servant of God, had asked Pharaoh to let the Hebrew people go but Pharaoh refused. It was God's will to set His people free so He brought terrible plagues upon Pharaoh and the Egyptians. Pharaoh continued to refuse in spite of these terrible plagues.

Then came the tenth plague. God warned that every first born child in Egypt would die if Pharaoh did not let the people go. God provided a way for His people to be saved from this plague of death. Each family was to sacrifice a perfect male lamb and place its blood around the door frame of their home. God said, “When I see the blood I will pass over you”.

The Passover is the perfect picture of the cross. Jesus is the Passover lamb and it is by the blood of Jesus, the Passover lamb that we enter into salvation. Salvation comes by the blood of the Passover Lamb, Jesus.

What do you think?

August 6 - - Taking Care of the Father's Business #11

Jesus said we are to take care of the Family Business. He also said that He would gave us the Holy Spirit who gives us the power that enables us to do this.

John 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
John 14:17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

Before Jesus returned to His place in Glory He told us that we are now to take care of the FAMILY BUSINESS. Not only did he tell us to take care of the FAMILY BUSINESS He also gave us what or I should say Who we needed to help us do it.

Jesus said, I will pray the Father and he shall give you another Comforter, another one of the same, one who is just like Me. Only this one, THE HOLY SPIRIT, will live in you. He will give you power to do what I have called you to do. He will lead and guide you in all truth. So we are to take care of the FAMILY BUSINESS by the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit.

Let us do a BUSINESS CHECK. Let’s look at the books and see how well the BUSINESS IS DOING.

Are we doing what God has called us to do? Before Jesus left he told us, His disciples, that we are now the ones to do the Fathers work. Jesus placed us in charge of the FAMILY BUSINESS.

What do you think?

August 5 - - Taking Care of the Father's Business #10

Taking care of the Father’s business requires us to be priests and intercessors.

It tell us in 1Peter 2:9 that we are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light:?

We have been called out of darkness into His marvelous light. And now we are to take that light, His marvelous light, back into the darkness so that it might call others out.

Jesus said
Matthew 25:35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:
Matthew 25:36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.
Matthew 25:37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?
Matthew 25:38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?
Matthew 25:39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
Matthew 25:40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me

I have never seen thing so confused in all my life. It seems as though the church is doing what the world should be doing and the world is doing what the church should be doing. It is the churches responsibility to take care of the poor and those who are hurting. Jesus said as you do to the least of these you do unto Me. It is a disciple's responsibility to take care of the poor, the sick, those in prison and the homeless.

Few churches are taking care of the poor. Few churches have a program within the church where they feed and clothe those who are in need. Few churches ever visit a nursing home or even those within the fellowship who are sick. The shut-ins are seldom called or visited by most churches. According to this scripture it is the churches responsibility to take care of those who are in need.

What do you think?

Pray for revival. - - Today let us pray for the shut-ins in our church, as well as those who are widowed and living alone. Ask God to bless and encourage them, anointing their lives with power for ministry as well as help for the needs they face daily.

August 3 - - Taking Care of the Father's Business #9

Taking care of the Father’s business requires us to be priests and intercessors. We are also called to intercede for those that have never accepted Jesus into their lives, the unbeliever.

Mark 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to the whole creation.
Mark 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that disbelieveth shall be condemned.

What does it mean preach or to proclaim the gospel? It could be simply speaking God’s Word and explaining what it means. It could mean telling a person what God has done for you in your life. It could be simply living such a life that a person would see Jesus in you.

We are to proclaim the gospel to the whole world. What is our whole world? It is that part of the world in which we live. The street we live on, the place where we work, the gym where we work out.

We are to be the Light of The World. The world is in darkness because of sin. It can no longer see the difference between right and wrong. Satan and his powers of darkness have blinded them. We are the light of the world. The light that Jesus has sent into the world to remove the darkness. We are the light that will enable the world to see its sin and come to Jesus. We are the light of the world and light always has power over darkness. When light comes in darkness always has to leave.

What do you think?

Pray for revival. - - Today let us pray that members of the congregation will convey a strong witness of the gospel to their community, through integrity, love, and godliness.

August 2 - Taking Care of the Father's Business #8

Taking care of the Father’s business requires us to be priests and intercessors. We are also called to intercede for those who are sick

Mark 16:18 - - - - they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

We are to pray by laying hands on the sick. We are given the promise that they will recover.

James 5:14 Is any among you sick? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:
James 5:15 and the prayer of faith shall save him that is sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, it shall be forgiven him.

If you are sick you are to call on the church to pray. Notice it says that you are the one who are to call for prayer. The church is to anoint you with oil in the name of Jesus. The prayer of faith will save the sick and the Lord will raise him up.

This is the Word of God and the Word of God must be 100% correct or none of it can be trusted. If we can’t believe all the Word we can’t believe any of the Word. If this part of God’s Word is not true how can we know the part I trust for my salvation is.

What do you think?

Pray for revival. - - Today let us pray for members of the congregation battling physical illness or emotional struggles, or facing spiritual needs. Ask God to minister to them in miraculous ways.

August 1 - Taking Care of the Father's Business #7

Taking care of the Father’s business requires us to be priests and intercessors. We are to intercede for those who are in Christ but also for those who are not in Christ, for all men.

1Tim 2:1 I exhort therefore, first of all, that supplications, prayers, intercessions, thanksgivings, be made for all men;
1Ti 2:2 for kings and all that are in high place; that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and gravity.

It tells us in Timothy that we are to pray and intercede for all men both Christians and non- Christians. We are to pray prayers of supplication and also prayers of thanksgiving, we are to pray for kings and those in high places. That would be our President, Congressmen, Senators, Governors and Mayors. It even tells us what to pray. Pray that they will provide for us a quiet life in all godliness and gravity.

A great way to intercede is to do a prayer walk. A pray walk is a great way to pray for the need of those around us. Simply walk through the neighborhood and pray for each house. Pray for their needs. If they are not saved pray for their salvation. Pray for their health. Pray for the father, mother and for the children. When you’re driving and stopped at a red light pray for that person in the car in front of you or the one in back. If we don't pray for them it is most likely no one will.

What do you think?

Pray for revival. - - Today let us pray that God will provide for those who are hurting and in need, both locally and nationally. Ask that He move on the hearts of believers to help meet needs in as much as they are able to do so.

July 31 - Taking Care of the Father's Business #6

Taking care of the Father’s business requires us to be priests and intercessors

1Pe 2:9 But ye are an elect race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, that ye may shew forth the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light:

If we are indeed a Royal Priesthood then we need to know the roll of a priest. A priest is a person that stands in the gap between God and another person. A priest takes another’s persons place before God. A priest is an intercessor. A good picture of this would be a Lawyer standing in a court of Low defending a person being accused of a crime.

We are first of all to be intercessors for those who are in Christ this would be the Church.

Eph 6:18 with all prayer and supplication praying at all seasons in the Spirit, and watching thereunto in all perseverance and supplication for all the saints,

We are to intercede in prayer for all the saints. We are to pray on behalf of those who are in Christ. Prayer is a very serious thing. When a person asks you to pray they are in need and are depending on you to go before God on their behalf. When we go before God on behalf of another person we are acting as a priest.

What do you think?

Pray for revival. - - Today let us pray that the lives of our pastoral staff will be marked by integrity and godliness.

Leviticus 25:8,13-14 The Year of Jubilee 8 “And you shall count seven weeks of years, seven times seven years, so that the time of the seven weeks of years shall be to you forty-nine years.
13 “In this year of jubilee each of you shall return to his property. 14 And if you sell to your neighbor or buy from your neighbor, you shall not wrong one another.

The Year of Jubilee was a time of forgiveness. A picture of the “acceptable year of the Lord. The “acceptable year of the Lord” is a time of forgiveness. The forgiveness of sin through the Blood of Jesus.

Luke 2:13-14
13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, 14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

The angles proclaimed the “year of the Lord” when they announced to the to the shepherd’s “Peace on Earth Good Will to Man”. The peace the angles were proclaiming was peace between God and man. Jesus brought this peace. This was the first time that this could have been said since Adam sinned in the garden Therefor this was the first acceptable year of the Lord since Adam sinned.

What do you think?

Isaiah 61:1-2 The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;

So what is the Fathers Business? We have already looked at Luke 4 where Jesus stood up in the synagogue and read these words from the Book of Isaiah 61.

What we do not need to overlook is that when Jesus read from this book of Isaiah He stopped short. Jesus did not read the last part of verse 2. Jesus said that He come to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord and Jesus proclaimed it in His ministry and in His death on the cross but Jesus will come again to fulfill the second part of this verse. When Jesus comes the second time Jesus will proclaim the day of vengeance.

So what is the “acceptable year of the Lord”? Or I should say WHO is the “acceptable year of the Lord”?

What do you think?

Pray for revival. - - Today let us pray for members of the congregation battling physical illness or emotional struggles, or facing spiritual needs. Ask God to minister to them in miraculous ways.

2Cor 5:20 20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.

We are to be Ambassadors.

One of the job of an ambassador is to make the person or the country that they represent look good. We are to make Jesus look good. Every place we go we are to make Jesus look good. When we go to the store we are to make Jesus look good. When we go to work we are to make Jesus look good. In everything we do we are to make Jesus look good.

Our lives are to be a testimony as to who Jesus is. People should be able to see Jesus in us. We are to proclaim the Gospel in what we say but we are also to proclaim the Gospel in the way we live.

What do you think?

Pray for revival. - - Today let us pray that our church services will be marked by displays of supernatural power, be it in healings, spiritual gifts, and lives that are dramatically changed by Jesus Christ.

Matthew 28:18-20
18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Jesus has returned to the Father but before he left He said that we are now to take care of the Father's Business. We are now the ones who are to do the Father's work.

John 14:12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

Jesus tells us that if we are believers in Jesus, born again by the blood of Jesus, that the works that He did we are now to do. We are now to take care of the Fathers Business. We are now Ambassadors for the Father.

WOW did you see this. Jesus said it I didn’t.

What do you think?

Pray for revival. - - Today let us pray that visitors to the church will sense the love and compassion of Christ, expressed through every member of the congregation.

Luke 2:49 And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?

Jesus came to do the work of the Father. So what is the work of the Father?

Luke 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
Luke 4:19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
Luke 4:21 And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.

We see from the scripture that the work of the Father was to preach the gospel to the poor, heal the broken hearted, preach deliverance to the captives, recover sight to the blind, set at liberty them that are bruised, and to preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

What do you think?

Pray for revival. - - Today let us pray that Christ will be at the center of every ministry, service, and event that takes place within the church and congregation.

Joh 2:11 This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.

It said it was the beginning of miracles not the ending. I believe God is still in the changing business and God is still in the miracle business.

There were six water pots and each is believed to have held six galleon of water. Mary prayed, Jesus "They have no wine" and Jesus gave her 36 gallons of the very best. I’ll say that again, Jesus gave her 36 GALLONS OF THE VERY BEST.

Jesus always gives the very best.

John 2:8 And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it.

I don't know what the servants were thinking as they took what they thought was water to the governor of the feast. But again they did what Jesus told them to do.

John 2:9 When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom,
John 2:10 And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now.

"Saved the best till last", how does the old song go. "Every day with Jesus is sweeter then the day before". We could say everyday with Jesus is better than the day before.

John 14:2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

Jesus said behold I go to prepare a place for you and when it is ready I come again. When I come again I will take you to this place that where I am you may be also. JESUS SAVED THE BEST TILL LAST.

John 2:6 And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece.

The water jugs were at the door to provide water for the washing of the hands and feet. The servants were there to pour the water on the hands and feet of those attending the wedding as they entered the door.

John 2:7 Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim.

Jesus did not use empty vessels, they needed to be filled. We are told that we are the vessel of the Holy Spirit and we too must be filled before God can use us.

Jesus is in the changing business. Jesus changed the water into wine and he changed me, a lost sinner into a child of God.

What do you think?

John 2:5 His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.

Mary said, whatever Jesus tells you to do you do it. In the book of James it says almost the same thing "be doers of the Word and not hears only". Jesus is the Word.

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Joh 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

We are to be doers of Jesus. These were the last words of Mary that are recorded in the Bible, "Do what Jesus tells you to do"

Mary’s famous last words - - “DO WHAT JESUS TELLS YOU TO DO”

What do you think?

John 2:4 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come.

Jesus said mine hour is not yet come. The work of the Father was to be done in the Fathers time. It may have been Jesus way of telling Mary that he was not here to provide wine for a marriage but to be the wine of the new covenant the wine of salvation for a world.

Whatever the reason Jesus answered her prayer. Jesus is in the prayer answering business.

John 4:4 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come.

Now we need to realize that Jesus had not preformed any miracles or sings until now. Mary had no way of knowing if it were even possible for Jesus to do anything. We know this to be true because of what it says in verse eleven.

11 This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.

Since Jesus had never done any signs. Mary had no way of knowing if He would or if He could. Mary did know that Jesus was born of a virgin and that He was the Son of God. She had enough faith to know that God did care and in His caring he could and would do something.

God does care, God cares for you and God cares for me and in His caring He will hear our cry and will do what needs to be done.

What do you think?

Pray for revival. - - Today let us pray that believers throughout the church will grow in relationship with Christ as they follow the path of discipleship. Ask your friends to pray for revival with you.

So that you may know.
For those of you that have been praying with me for revival I would like for you to know that things are beginning to happen. I received a phone call this morning telling me that in one of our large churches in the city last night a deacon meeting last night turned into a prayer meeting. Men on their knees crying out to God for the movement of the Holy Spirit. I feel this is only the beginning keep praying and believing.

John 2:3 And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine.

Now an invitation was not need to attend the wedding so there was no way of knowing how much food or wine was needed. Not knowing how many to prepare for could have been the reason they run out of wine. The fact they were out of wine and now what were they to do? There was no seven eleven to run to.

Have you ever felt like there was no answer to your problem? No place to go, no one who cared.

Mary took the problem to Jesus. Where do we take our problems? Is Jesus the first place we go for help or is He the last. Too often we try everything else then when all fails we pray.

Mary prayed first

John 2:3 And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine.

The marriage feast of Cana is about of a group of people who were having a problem. Now all the food had been prepared and the guest had arrived. At the time of Christ it was the responsibly of the groom to provide food and drink for the wedding. Jewish wedding would often last for seven days.

We don't know how long the wedding feast has been in progress but we do know that they have run out of wine. Nothing worse could have happened then to run out of wine. This would have brought disgrace to the family. This would have been so bad that in the time of Christ the bride's family had grounds for a law suit against the groom’s family.

John 2:3 - - - - the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine.

We can learn a lot from Mary. Mary know where to go with the problem, she went to Jesus.

Where do we go with our problems?

What do you think?

July 15 - - Jesus Changes Water into Wine #1

John 2:1 And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there:
John 2:2 And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage.

Isn't it strange that Jesus should begin his public ministry at a marriage feast? The first thing God did in the garden after He created Adam and Eve was to marry them. Even before the Church there was Marriage.

Genesis 2: 23 And Adam said this is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
Genesis 2: 24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

Marriage was in the beginning and Jesus keeps it there by placing it in the beginning of His ministry.

God created the world and then God created marriage.

July 13 - - Pray for revival #8

Today I would like for us to pray for our Country. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer.

2 Chronicles 714 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Pray for the President and cabinet, that they will look to God for guidance, help, and wisdom.

Pray for members of the U. S. Congress and Senate, including our own, asking God to provide for them and help them. Pray as well that they will look to God for direction and guidance as they help to lead the nation.

Pray for our court system, locally as well as the state courts and the U. S. Supreme Court. Ask God’s blessing and guidance upon judges, and that they would look to Him for help and direction.

Pray for God’s protection and provision for our military. Ask that He especially bless and protect those serving in dangerous places and performing dangerous jobs. Ask for His blessing on soldiers and their families as they deal with issues of separation and loneliness.

Pray for a supernatural move of God across our nation, bringing a new sense of revival and trust in God

Although this is the last post on praying for reveal I would like you to continue to pray with me. I know God will hear our cry and will bring the much needed revival. Pray with me until revival comes.

Ask your friends to pray for this revival with you.

July 12- - Pray for revival #8

Today I would like for us to pray for our State. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer.

2 Chronicles 714 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Pray for our State leaders and officials, seeking God for provision and protection in their lives.

Pray for the governor, as well as state senate and congressional members and leaders.

Pray for a supernatural move of God across our State, bringing a new sense of renewal and trust in God

Pray that God will provide for those who are hurting and in need, both locally and nationally. Ask that He move on the hearts of believers to help meet needs in as much as they are able to do so.

Ask your friends to pray for this revival with you.

July 11-- Pray for revival #7

Today I would like for us to pray for our City. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer.

2 Chronicles 714 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Pray that people throughout the city will open their hearts to the voice of God, and grasp that He has a loving and eternal plan for their lives.

Pray that God will give wisdom and direction to the mayor, city council, and all other city leaders.

Pray that God will provide help and protection to law enforcement and firefighters throughout the city.

Pray that God will bring provision, help, and protection into the lives of teachers throughout the city.

Pray that God will bless the efforts of business leaders and owners throughout the city, that economic conditions and employment will be strong.

Ask your friends to pray for this revival with you.
