September 18 - - - The Robe of Righteousness

Luke 15:22-24 22 “But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. 23 Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. 24 For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate.

After returning home all the younger son could say was “he is not worthy to be the father’s son”. But the father restored the son to his rightful place in the family.

The father put shoes on his son’s feet. A slave would not have worn shoes. The father placed a robe on the shoulders of his son and a ring on his son’s finger.

The robe covered the rags that his son was wearing. We too when we come to Jesus receive a robe, the robe of righteousness’. In order to enter into God’s grace and God’s reward we must be clothed in righteousness. Since we have no righteousness of our own we must accept the righteousness of Jesus as our righteousness.

21 For He made Him (Jesus) who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. (2 Corinthians 5:21)

Jesus took upon himself our sin and gave to us everything we need to be right with God. Jesus kept the law for us and placed the robe of being right with God upon our shoulder not covering the rags of sin but removing the rags of sin forever.

Jesus made us RIGHT WITH GOD.

September 17 - - - The father welcomes his son

Luke 15:20-24 20 So he got up and went to his father. “But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him. 21 “The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’

As the son comes closer to his home, he would most likely be feeling fear and shame. He had left the family and community, and lost everything. He was expecting to face his father’s and brother’s anger. He also expected the community to reject him.

Any Jewish man who lost his money among foreigners would face the Kezazah (literally “the cutting off”). The Kezazah would be performed by breaking a clay pot at the feet of the man as visual symbol that the community rejected him forever.

I could imagine what the son was thinking when he saw his father running to him at a distance, I believe he must have been struck with fear. When the father drew close the son saw joy instead of anger.

Joy is what the sinner finds when he draws close to God in repentances.

September 16 - - - The son is starving

Luke 15:16-19 16 And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him. 17 And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! 18 I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee. 19 And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants.

The son is starving. He was so hungry that he would gladly eat what the Hogs were eating. Offer you must hit bottom before you ever start looking up.

It says that “he came to himself”. He got his thinking right. Often when we allow sin to control our lives we lose sight of what is right. He began to think of the one place that there is bread.

The son’s reason for going home was TO EAT. He prepares a speech that he feels might work to get him food and to save face.

People come to Jesus for many reasons. Some come to Jesus because they don’t want to go to hell. They are not sure they want to go to heaven but they only have two choices and heaven seem the better of the two. Other comes to Jesus because they are seeking God in their lives. I believe the most important thing is that they come to Jesus.

I love the old Hymn “1 Just as I am, without one plea, but that thy blood was shed for me, and that thou bidd'st me come to thee, O Lamb of God, I come, I come.”. Yes we come just as we are and Jesus changes us into “the very image of Himself”

I don’t know the number of times I hear someone say, When I get my life together I’ll come to Jesus. What they need to do is to come to Jesus and let Jesus get their life together.

Jesus can do this you know.

September 15 - - - Sin brings on more sin.

Luke 15:14-16 14 And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want.15 And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine.16 And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him.

When the son wasted all his money and a famine strikes the distant land, he is forced to work feeding pigs.

Leviticus 11:7-8 And the pig, because it has a cloven hoof that is completely split, but will not regurgitate its cud; it is unclean for you. You shall not eat of their flesh, and you shall not touch their carcasses; they are unclean for you.

Not only was this the lowest thing that a Jewish man could do but it was also a sin for a Jewish man to eat or even touch a pig. Jesus is showing that sin often leads to more sin and even greater sin. As you see in the above scriptures the younger son had allowed himself to be drug into the pin with the Hogs.

Sin often does this, if you don’t believe me just look into the alleys of our city at those who have allowed sin to destroy their lives.

September 14 - - - The Return of The Prodigal Son

Luke 15:13-14 13 “Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country and there squandered his wealth in wild living. 14 After he had spent everything, there was a severe famine in that whole country, and he began to be in need.

It says that when the younger son squandered all his money on wild living a famine came. Wild living and sin will bring famine into a person’s life, spiritual famine but often also a physical famine. It has the power to destroy marriages, families and friendships. It has the power to destroy jobs and bank accounts but most of all it destroys our relationship with God.

Romans 6:23 23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Sin destroys but Jesus restores. Sin separates us from God but the blood of Jesus brings us back into fellowship with Him.

See you in church

September 13 - - - So He Divided His Property Between Them.

Luke 15: 11 – 12 Jesus continued: “There was a man who had two sons. The younger one said to his father, ‘Father, give me my share of the estate.’ So he divided his property between them.

It says that the father “divided his property between them” The younger son had his shear and the older son also had his shear. It was not unusual for this to be done. This was often done when a father became very old and was no longer able to take care of the estate. When this was done it became the reasonability of the sons to take care of the father and the family business.

So the younger son left but the older son stayed and took upon himself the reusability of taking care of the father.

In this Jesus shows that there are those who run from God and those who run to God seeking after the things of God, trying to do what is right, trying to live a good life that is pleasing to God.

The younger son ran from the father the older son ran to the father.

September 12 - - - The Father Granted His Son’s Request.

Luke 15: 11 – 12 Jesus continued: “There was a man who had two sons. The younger one said to his father, ‘Father, give me my share of the estate.’ So he divided his property between them.

So the Pharisees are waiting with anticipation to hear the response of the father. Waiting for the father to respond to the sons asking for his part of the estate.

How would the father react would it be with anger, would he refuse the sons request. We have already seen that such a request was the same as wishing his father dead.

In order to grant the sons request the father would have to sell a great deal of his property because most of his wealth was held in land, not in a bank. There would also be shame because of the statement such a request would make to those who were his friends and neighbors. However, the father’s response was to grant his son’s request. The father allows his son to have his way.

God gives us a freewill allowing us to make our own decisions. We can choose to love God or we can choose not to love God.

God gives each of us a freewill to choose because that is the only way love can become real. We enter into God’s love and God’s salvation by choice. God provided salvation for all of us in the Lord Jesus Christ but we must choose to receive it.

John 3:16-17 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

September 11 - - - A Son’s Inheritance

Luke 15: 11 – 12 Jesus continued: “There was a man who had two sons. The younger one said to his father, ‘Father, give me my share of the estate.’ So he divided his property between them.

If a son were to ask his father for his inheritance before the father’s death, the son would be the same as wishing his father dead.

If we look carefully at the scripture the word inheritance is not used. It says “give me my share of the estate”. Accepting the inheritance meant accepting the responsibility of providing for the family. The son is not looking for responsibility but for the money and the good time that he might have with it.

Sin does not carry with it responsibility. Sin is all about one’s self. That was the sin of Lucifer that brought about his fall. “13For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: 14I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High”. Isaiah 14:13-14

Sin is all about I, my, and me.

September 10 - - - The Prodigal Son

Luke 15: 11 – 12 Jesus continued: “There was a man who had two sons. The younger one said to his father, ‘Father, give me my share of the estate.’ So he divided his property between them.

This is the third in the trio of parables given to us in the 15th chapter of Luke. The lost sheep, the lost coin and the lost son, three lost things all with the same message, For the Son of man came to seek and to save that which was lost. (Luke 19:10)

In all three parables, Jesus is answering the Pharisees’ question about why Jesus “receiveth sinners, and eateth with them”. (Luke 15:2)

Jesus does not dwell on why the son wanted to leave. The “why” of his leaving is not important to the story, but rather the way he decided to leave.

I suppose we can learn from this. We are always ready to give reason why we do what we do. We are always ready to place the blame on someone else or something else when the blame really belongs to us.

How does the old saying go “the devil made me do it” will don’t you believe it the devil didn’t make you do anything you were the one who decided to do it. The why is not important what is important is that we “have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God” and we stand in need of God salvation found only in the Lord Jesus Christ.

God is a God of salvation and forgiveness. Jesus is God’s salvation. Jesus came to do for us what we could not do for ourselves.

September 9 - - - There Is Rejoicing In The Presence Of the Angels

Luke15:8-10 "Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Does she not light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, 'Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.' In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents."

These parables reveal God as a Searching Father, looking for the lost and rejoicing when they are found. God's character is mercy. That is the message of the cross, the message of a searching love.

The Bible says that there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels when a sinner repents. There is a celebration for every person who saved by the blood of Jesus. The salvation of Jesus is a one-by-one, person-by-person, name-by-name salvation.

We have been called to search for the lost. We are to have the same passion as Jesus for those who have never been saved. "For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost" (Luke19:10).

Jesus tells us we are to be scouring for the lost sheep, sweeping the house for the lost coin and upon finding them we are to celebrate with joy. The joy of a shepherd over his found sheep, the joy of a woman over a found coin.

September 8 - - - Light a Lamp, Sweep the House and Search Carefully

Luke15:8-10 "Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Does she not light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, 'Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.' In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents."

Palestinian homes often didn't have any windows. So to search diligently the woman needed to light a lamp. She swept the house thinking that maybe the coin was covered in the dust of the dirt floor. She searched high and low. Finally she spotted the shine of the coin in the flickering light. She reached for it and held it between her fingers. She was so excited that she rushes out and calls to her friends and neighbors. Come and celebrate with me for I have found the coin that was lost.

We do not know if it was a dowry or a wedding gift but we do know the importance of the coin.

I believe that this parable is a picture of what the church should be. Yes it is our job to take care of the needs of its members but what about the lost who seldom or never attend church? What about the husband who doesn’t come to church with his family? What about the people who live in the community? What about them? What about their spiritual welfare? What about those in our churches who have stop attending? Are we to go and search for them?

September 7 - - - Parable of the Lost Coin

Luke15:8-10 "Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Does she not light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, 'Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.' In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents."

Jesus tells a parable of a woman who has ten silver coins and loses one. Now it is believed that the value of this coin to be a day’s wages. The ten silver coins might represent the woman's dowry. Now if the coin was valued at a day’s wage then in today’s money that would be most likely between $80 and $100. Now if she had ten coins that would be a dowry of about $1000. This would be given to the man whom she married. Now if she lost her dowry then the chances of her getting married would be very slim. So you can see the importance of finding this coin.

Others say it may have been a gift from her husband. It could have been a wedding gift compared to a wedding ring today. Can you picture the panic of a woman losing her wedding ring?

So with this in mind we can see the value of this coin. This was much more than some dollar store charm. Jesus uses the lost coin to show the value of one soul that is lost.

So my question would be, how long do you search for a lost wedding ring before you give us and stop searching?

See you in church

September 6 - - - Rejoicing over Sinners Repenting

Luke 15:6-7 6 And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost. 7 I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.

A time of celebration, the shepherd found his sheep. The shepherd calls his friends to celebrate.

In this parable the lost sheep is the sinner. This is in responses to the Pharisees grumbling about Jesus who was welcoming and fellowshipping with tax collectors whom the Pharisees considered to be sinners. What they failed to see was that they also were sinners and that Jesus also came in search of them.

“I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth”,

Every time someone comes to Christ by faith the saints in heaven celebrate. - - - How great is this? Heavens eyes are always on the altar of salvation.

September 5 - - - The one sheep that was lost.

Luke 15:3-5 3 And he spake this parable unto them, saying, 4 What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it? 5 And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing.

So with this Jesus begins to teach them using parables, the first being the Lost Sheep

The Jewish people have always been shepherds. Shepherding has always been a great part of their economy. The number of sheep a person owned determined a person’s wealth. So we see in this parable a person with one hundred sheep. A hundred sheep would be a fairly normal size flock for a small farmer. In this parable it speaks of one of the sheep being lost.

This does not seem to be much of a loss. After all he still has ninety-nine. But what did the shepherd do, “The shepherd leaves the ninety-nine to search for the one that is lost.”

Once when my children were very young one of them became separated from us in a store where my wife and I were shopping. Those few minutes that the child was lost we almost panicked. You can’t believe the joy when we found the child. Yes we scolded the child for straying away but we see in this parable no blame is placed on the lost sheep. The emphasis Jesus makes is in the seeking, the finding and in the celebration of joy.

Jesus is showing the Pharisees in this parable that the tax collectors and sinners are the lost sheep and He is showing them the importance of seeking and finding them.

When I look at this I think about those who wonder in and out of our church unnoticed. The single mother, the troubled child, the broken man. I can’t help but think that Jesus would never allow them to be unnoticed.

What do you think?

September 4 - - - This man welcomes sinners

Luke 15:2 And the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying , This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them.,

Whenever we set in judgment on a person we are using ourselves as the measuring stick. The Pharisees were upset because Jesus was having fellowship with sinners. In Romans 3:23 it says that we all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. You see when we use God as the measuring stick we all fall short.

Jesus not only attracted those who were religious, but also the downcast of Israel. A new crowd altogether, those that were looked down upon by the religious sect. So here we have two different groups of people rubbing shoulders together. The Pharisees considered the tax collectors sinners and unclean, and to associate with them would bring this uncleanness upon them.

Jesus is not only with this group of outcast men but He is fellowshipping with them by sharing a meal. There's nothing passive about what Jesus' was doing. Not only does Jesus go out of His way to receive those whom no one else would receive but Jesus sets down and eats and fellowship with them.

We see a picture of this in Revelation 3:20 were it says, “I stand at the door and knock. If ANYONE hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me."

I would like for us together to look at the word ANY0NE in Revelation 3:20 The Rich and the poor, the old and the young, the learned and the unlearned, the word ANYONE means ANYONE.

It all began with a muttering. The Pharisees and the teachers were murmuring about Jesus' and His choice of friends. The Greek word for murmuring here means to "complain and to grumble aloud."

They were judging Jesus on the basis of the company he was keeping. It says that the tax collectors and sinners were gathered around Jesus. Jesus was not only in their company but it says that he was having fellowship with them by sharing a meal.

Now a Tax collector was considered to be a traitor because they were Jewish men that worked for the hated Roman oppressors. Tax collectors often collected more than they were required to collect. They became very wealthy and the one from whom they collected the taxes became very poor.

I can understand to a point what the Pharisee’s were saying. They were saying you can tell a person by the company he keeps. But what they didn’t understand was the men they were complaining about, as being undesirable were no worse than they. It says in the book of Romans 3:23 “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God. So the tax collectors, sinners, and the Pharisees were also in need of salvation.

This was a simple case of 'THE POT CALLING THE KETTLE BLACK'- - - What can we learn from this?

September 2 - - - The Parable of the Lost Coin

Luke 15:1-3 Then drew near unto him all the publicans and sinners for to hear him. 2 And the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them. 3 And he spake this parable unto them, saying,

Have you ever been criticized for something you’ve done? Yes we all have. You can never escape criticism. Anyone who stands up for what they believe will be criticized. You'll be criticized fairly and unfairly. Even if you take no stand at all you'll be criticized for doing nothing. You can't escape criticism.

Criticism will bring out the best or the worst in a person. When Jesus was criticized, he responded with the most wonderful trio of parables in the Bible -- the lost coin, the lost sheep, and the lost son. In these parables we see the glorious salvation nature of God. I thought for the next few days we might look at the parable of the lost sheep.

I thought we might look at the glorious salvation nature of God. A God who is constantly seeking and searching for those whom are lost.

September 1 - - - Binding and loosing

Matthew 16:19New International Version - I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven."

Binding and loosing. Our words do have the power to bind or loose. We bind things from happening and we release thing to happen simply by the words that we speak. Heaven dose honor the words that we speak.

It says that we hold the keys to heaven and heaven will honor the words that we speak. “Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven."

August 31 - - - Listen carefully to my words.

Proverbs 4:20-22 - New Living Translation 20 My child, pay attention to what I say. Listen carefully to my words. 21 Don’t lose sight of them. Let them penetrate deep into your heart, 22 for they bring life to those who find them, and healing to their whole body.

This proverb is referring to the Word of God. It tells us to do four things. It says for us to pay attention to God’s Word. Then it tells us to listen carefully to it. It goes on to say don’t lose sight of it. Then last it tells us to let it penetrate deep into our heart.

Now this verse also comes with a promise. If we do this then the Word of God will bring life and healing to the whole body.

All I can say is WOW!

What do you think? - - - - See you in church

August 30 - - Man does not live by Bread alone

Matthew 4:4 Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.

Love that scripture. It tells us that in the same way bread feeds the body the Word of God feeds the spirit. Next to drinking water eating is the most important thing we can do for our body but a great number of us (present company excluded I hope) will often go days without feeding the spirit.

So my question would be “what is more important, feeding the body that is going to die or feeding the spirit that is going to live forever”?

What do you think?

Pray for our Churches. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. August 29- - - Jesus died for our sins and rose from the dead.

Luke 16:27-28 27 Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house: 28 For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. 29 Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. 30 And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. 31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.

Jesus concludes the parable in a very strange way. The rich man wants Lazarus to warn his brothers of the dangers of hell. But Abraham says that if they won't believe what they have been taught by Moses and the prophets then they wouldn't believe even if someone rose from the dead.

What is the message that we take to the world. That Jesus died for our sins and that he rose from the dead. God did send someone back from the dead and there are those who still will not believe.

And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. (Mark 16:15)

It’s as simple as that. If you believe then you go to heaven if you refuse to believe then you go to hell. - - - And hell is not a very good place

August 28- - - Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

Luke 16;25 25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.

First glance at this scripture you could easily get the impression that if you have a good life with an abundance of money here you will not be reworded in glory.

This is not true there is nothing wrong with having a good life here and nothing wrong with having money. I would even say that this would be great and I wish this for each of you. Having money is not the problem it is your relationship with the money that Jesus is talking about.

The rich man would pass Lazarus every time he entered his home. Not only did he pass Lazarus more than likely he complained because of Lazarus being there. Can’t you just hear him complaining? What’s this neighborhood coming to? This makes the whole neighborhood look bad.

It says that Lazarus sat at the gate and begged. This rich man made no effort to help this man even though he was sick and hungry.

This rich man thought more of his money then did for Lazarus. The rich man’s money became his god. God spoke these words in Exodus 20:2-3 “I am the Lord thy God.... Thou shalt have no other gods before me.”

So what was the rich man’s sin?

August 27- - - The rich man calls out to Lazarus

Luke 16;23-223 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. 24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.

This is one of the few places in the bible were it allows us to actually look into hell. It says that in hell the rich man is being tormented, undergoing severe pain from the fire.

The rich man calls out to Lazarus in his agony from the flame. The rich man is pleading for just one drop of water.

It says that the rich man looked up and saw Lazarus. From this we can assume that you can look from hell into paradise. So not only does the rich man feel the punishment that he is suffering in hell but he sees the rewords that he is messing in paradise. - - - Hell is not a very nice place.

August 26- - - It is appointed unto men once to die

Luke16:22"The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham's side. The rich man also died and was buried,"

Both men died. One thing that we can be sure of and that is we are all going to die. Hebrews 9:27 27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

You have herd the old saying “You'll never get out of the world alive”. Well this is somewhat true. The only exception to this is for those who will be alive at the coming of Christ. It tell me in the book of Thessalonian 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

Both men, the rich man and Lazarus are dead. We see Lazarus being carried to paradise to the bosom of Abraham by angels while the rich man was buried.

We all wonder what death is going to be like. Will Jesus gives us a picture of death for those who are alive in Christ Jesus. It says that Lazarus is carried to paradise by angels.

Death for the Christian is to be “carried to paradise by angels”

August 25- - - Lazarus ate what fell from the Rich man’s table.

16:20-21"At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores longing to eat what fell from the rich man's table

When it speaks of that which fell from the rich man's table it is not speaking of small crumbs but pieces of bread which the guests of the rich man used to dry their hands after cleaning their hand in a dish of water provided at the table before eating. After they cleaned their hands they would take this bread and threw it under the table then after the meal the floor would be swept and the bread would be thrown in the garbage can. In other words Lazarus lived out of the rich man’s garbage can.

Lazarus in life ate what fell from the banquet table but in death Lazarus is eating from the banquet table.

Now how great is that?

August 24- - - The Rich man and Lazarus

Luke 16:19"There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day."

We have a rich man with an abundance of wealth Jesus describes him as being dressed in purple. Now a garment of purple at the time of Jesus was a very expensive because of what it took to make the dye. It says that “he lived in luxury wanting for nothing”

16:20-21"At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores longing to eat what fell from the rich man's table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores."

Lazarus is short for Eleazar, which means “He whom God helps”. Lazarus is pictured as a sickly person who is covered with sores who lays at the rich man’s gate begging for his needs. It says that he longed to eat what fell from the rich man’s table.

We see two men that could not be any more different. One rich who had need for nothing and the other who, was poor and sick, having need of everything. Jesus is showing the two as the richest of the rich and the poorest of the poor.

So my question would be, witch of the two did God love? That’s easy to answer, God loved both of them. The big question is which of the two loved God? It’s not God’s love that condemns man it’s the lack of man’s love for God that condemns him.

John 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. - - If you don’t make it to heaven it’s not God’s fault.

Just a thought - - - See you in church

August 23- - - Rich Man and Lazarus

Luke 16:19-21 19"There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. 20At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores 21and longing to eat what fell from the rich man's table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores.

Some believe that this is only a parable and as such it cannot be taken literary. They believe that the picture of one looking from hell into heaven is not true. They also believe that other accounts of hell in the Bible are not true. In fact they just believe that there is no such place as hell.

Then you have those that believe that this is not a parable but fact. They base this on the fact that Jesus uses a name for one of the persons. This was the only time that Jesus ever used the name of a person in a parable. And sense it is not a parable but fact then everything that is mentioned is true.

Then you have the question of why Jesus addresses only one of the characters by name? Some believe that because the rich man had no personal relationship with God that God didn't know him or his name.

So if it is something that actually took place or only a parable that Jesus is using to teach, it still remains to be the Word of God taught to us by Jesus Himself. So let us look at what the Word of God has to say about the rich man and Lazarus.

For the next few days I thought we might look together at the parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus

August 22- - - Prayer of thanksgiving

1 Thessalonian s 5:18 In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

It says in everything we are to give thanks. When things are going good but also when things are not going good. It's hard to give thinks when thing are not going good.

Notice it said that in everything not for everything, big difference. It doesn't say we are to be thankful for the storm but we are to be thankful in the storm.

We can be thankful in the storm because we know that in the storm we are never alone God is always with us. It was in the storm that Jesus walked on the water.

In our storm is where we find Jesus walking on the water.

What do you think?

August 21- - - How can this be?

John 3:9 "How can this be?" asked Nicodemus.

We are still asking this question. How can this be? New birth comes by faith. Trusting and believing in the Lord Jesus Christ.

John 3:14 (Jesus said) as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: 15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

If there ever was one verse of scripture that tells the whole salvation story it would be John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

God love the world, (you and me, so much) that he gave his only begotten son, (Jesus, to die on the cross in our place). That whom so ever believeth in Him, (believed that he is the Son of God, that he died on the cross for our sins that he rose from the dead), shall not die (that if we believe we will not parish, or die,) but we will have everlasting life (in heaven with Jesus forever).

Yes Nicodemus accepted the new birth; we see evidence of this in John 19:39-40.

John 19:39 And there came also Nicodemus, which at the first came to Jesus by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred pound weight. 40 Then took they the body of Jesus, and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury.

Nicodemus was the one that took Jesus from the cross and prepared Jesus for burial.

Yes Nicodemus had been “born again”. - - - Have you been born again?

-------

August 20- - - Salvation is a free gift.

John 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

Man is a threefold creation: body soul and spirit but because of sin the spirit of man is dead. It has to be born again.

Ephesians 2:1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; - - - To become spiritually alive you need to be born again. You must be born of the Spirit.

Spiritual birth is a gift from God the same way physical birth is a gift from God. I had nothing to do with my physical birth it was given to me. The same with my spiritual birth, it is a free Gift from God.

We have a hard time with free gifts, getting something for nothing. One reason may be because we have been told from birth that no one gives you anything for nothing. - - - Beware of bearers of gifts. - - - If it's not worth working for it’s not worth having.

But this is not true when it comes to salvation, our spiritual birth, being born again, it is a free gift. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin (one sin or any sin) is death (separation from God forever); but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Let me say that again “But the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord”. Eternal life, the New Birth is a “gift of God through Jesus Christ our Lord”.

“Ye must be born again” is free - - no charge - - - simply put your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

“You must be born again” die to the old self and become alive in the new self, found in the Lord Jesus Christ.

-------

Pray for our Churches. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that believers throughout the church will grow in rela¬tionship with Christ as they follow the path of discipleship.

August 19- - - A do over

John 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

The second birth is a brand new start. The old has passed away and everything becomes new.

When you are “born again” you get a “do over”. You do know what a “do over” is? A “do over” is when you get another chance to do it over. When I was a kid playing a game if I didn’t do very well when it was my turn I would ask for a “do over”. A chance to try again. When we are born again God gives us a “do over”. Everything that has been done in the past has been put to death on the cross and we are given a new life in Jesus.

But what is so great about this “do over” is that God does this “do over” for us in the Lord Jesus Christ. Everything we need for our salvation has been done for us in Jesus.

Jesus is our “do over”. - - - Jesus is our New Birth.

Now great is that.

Pray for our Churches. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that visitors to the church will sense the love and compassion of Christ, expressed through every member of the congregation.

August 18- - - How can a man be born again?

John 3:4 4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? 5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

Nicodemus had no idea what Jesus was talking about. Man cannot understand the things of the spirit unless he is born of the spirit. Without the Holy Spirit living in you, you cannot understand the thing of God.

John 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

Man must be born twice. Once which is our natural birth and the second which is our spiritual birth.

If you are born once then you will die twice but if you are born twice then you will only die once.

August 17- - - Except a man be born again

John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

I recall once when I was in church, not the church that I attend now, I ran into the housekeeper. I stopped and talk to her and asked her if she know for sure if when she died she would go to heaven.

Now she was in in church every day from 9 to 5, she attended church on Sunday morning and Sunday evening, she was part of Wednesday prayer time, she was also a part of the ladies Sunday School class and this is the answer she gave me. She said that she hoped so that she tried to live a good life and that she belonged to the church.

This is the answer that you get from most people when you ask them this question but this is not the right answer. The right answer is “YOU MUST BE BORN AGAIN”.

So how are you born again? This is the question Nicodemus asked Jesus in the next verse.

John 3:4 4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?

When Jesus said “you must be born again” Jesus was speaking of a spiritual birth.

August 16- - - You must be born again

John 3:2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. 3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

Nicodemus said to Jesus, "Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher sent by God. No one could perform the miracles you are doing unless God were with him."

Jesus answered by going straight to the point. He didn't talk about the weather or how nice it was to see Nicodemus. He said to Nicodemus “you must be born again if you’re going to see the kingdom of God”.

I think we can learn from this. Notice, Jesus did not say you must keep the law in order to go the heaven, Nicodemus was already doing this or at least he thought he was. Being a Pharisee they were known for keeping the law. They wore the Tefillin (also called phylacteries), which is a small leather boxes that contain verses from the Torah the books of the law, on their head or on their arm. Jesus told Nicodemus that he needed to have a “born again experience with God”.

You would be surprised how many people believe that the way to heaven is by being good and keeping the law. Now I do believe that we should keep the Law as given to us in the Ten Commandments but keeping the Law will not take you to heaven because the first time you break the law your forfeit you rights to heaven. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin (one sin or any sin) is death (separation from God forever); - - - - .

Nicodemus was a keeper of the law but Jesus told Nicodemus that he needed a have a “BORN AGAIN EXPERENCE WITH GOD”.

“Ye must be born Again” - - - What do you think?

August 15- - - Many believed when they saw the miracles Jesus did.

To fully understand what was going on we need to go back to the last part of chapter two.

John 2:23 Now when he (Jesus) was in Jerusalem at the Passover, in the feast day, many believed in his name, when they saw the miracles which he did.

In John two we see Jesus at the marriage feast where He turned the water into wine. This took place in Cana and now from Cana Jesus has traveled to Jerusalem for the Feast of Passover. This is the first Passover that Jesus celebrated since he entered His public ministry.

We see in this scripture that many believed in Jesus because of the miracles which Jesus did. Since the wedding at Cana where Jesus turned the water into wine Jesus had performed many miracles and many have now began to believe. It was the miracles that brought men to believe.

Nicodemus makes the statement “for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him”.

“Many believed in his name, when they saw the miracles which he did”. At the time of Jesus men believed because they saw the miracles today we see the miracles because we believe.

What do you think?

August 14- - - Nicodemus came to Jesus

John 3:1 There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: 2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.

Now in chapter three of the book of John we see Nicodemus coming to Jesus by night under the cover of darkness. Nicodemus had seen the miracles of Jesus and had begun to believe.

Let us stop and first look at who Nicodemus was. Nicodemus was a Pharisee a ruler and a leader of the Jews. As a leader of the Jews Nicodemus held a standing in the community and as such even speaking to Jesus could cause problem for him. Knowing this we might understand why he came to Jesus by night.

I heard it once said that it didn't matter when he came to Jesus what mattered is that he did come to Jesus. I think that this also hold true for us. Some of us have been a follower of Jesus all our lives while others have just come to know Jesus but the important thing is that we did come to Jesus.

Nicodemus came to Jesus by night. - - - How did you come to Jesus?

August 13- - - You must be born again

John 3:1 There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: 2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. 3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

For the next few days I thought we might look at the third chapter of the book of John where it speaks of being born again. What a great Gospel, the Gospel of John.

The third chapter of John holds the most quoted verse of scripture in the Bible. John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

The theme of the third chapter is “Ye must be born again”. It teaches us the importance of the New Birth found only in Jesus.

The next few days we will be looking at what Jesus meant when He said “Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."

August 12- - - God will deliver us.

Psalm 34:19 - - - A righteous man may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all.

God didn’t promise us a life that would be a bed of roses. Christians deal with pain and suffering the same as the rest of the world but what God did promise us was that “the Lord delivers him from them all”.

I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t have God to run to.

August 11- - - There is a way that seemeth right.

Proverbs 16:25 There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

What this is saying is that our reasoning may tell us that we need to go a certain way or do a certain thing but if we follow after this way we may find that it is wrong and leads to death.

For example, for years I believed that if I was good I would go to Heaven and if I was bad I would go to hell so I tried as hard as I could to be good. Now this sure seemed right but if I followed after that way and had not found the truth that salvation is found only in Jesus, this would have led to death.

Salvation comes only by our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. It is not earned it is a gift. This is called God's GRACE.

What do you think?

August 10- - - Praying for the sick

James 5:14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: 15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

The Word of God is exact when it tells us what to do in times of trouble. It tells us here in James what to do when sickness comes upon us. It tells us to call for the elders of the church and have them pray over us in the name of the Lord. Then it tells us that we are to have them anoint us with oil. That’s what we are to do if we are sick.

Then it goes on to tell us what God will do. God will hear our prayer and the faith of those praying will save the sick and the Lord will raise them up. The one who is sick will be healed and if the sickness is the result of sin the sin will also be forgiven.

So my question would be why don’t we do this? Why don’t we call for the elders and have them anoint us with oil as the Word tells us to do? Is it because we don’t believe all the Word and if we don’t believe all the Word then how do we know what part of the Word to believe?

Just a thought - - See you in church.

Pray for our Churches. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray for members of the congregation battling physical illness or emotional struggles, or facing spiritual needs. Ask God to minister to them in miraculous ways.

August 9- - - Pray for our Children and Grandchildren

Deuteronomy 28:12-13 12 The LORD will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands. You will lend to many nations but will borrow from none. 13 The LORD will make you the head, not the tail.

This is the prayer that I pray for my children and grandchildren. That the Lord will open His storehouse and send his bounty of blessing, that they will be the lender and not the borrower and that they will be the head which is the leader and not the tail which is the follower

August 8- - -- Pray for our Pastors

Exodus 17:10-13 10 So Joshua did what Moses had commanded and fought the army of Amalek. Meanwhile, Moses, Aaron, and Hur climbed to the top of a nearby hill. 11 As long as Moses held up the staff in his hand, the Israelites had the advantage. But whenever he dropped his hand, the Amalekites gained the advantage. 12 Moses’ arms soon became so tired he could no longer hold them up. So Aaron and Hur found a stone for him to sit on. Then they stood on each side of Moses, holding up his hands. So his hands held steady until sunset. 13 As a result, Joshua overwhelmed the army of Amalek in battle.

This is the reasonability that we have to our pastor. We need to lift his arms up in prayer. Not only standing with him but also supporting him. We need to pray for our pastor and his family.

August 7- - -- Power of prayer

Matthew 17:20 He (Jesus) told them, - - - - if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.

A few years back it was reported that a woman, who was alone in her house, was confronted by a burglar who was emptying her home of her possessions. She walked in were the burglar was to answer the phone. He ripped the card from the wall and ordered her into the closet. She was obviously afraid for her life, but did not panic.

To the shock of the gunman, Cindy fell to her knees and began to pray for God’s help. Even more stunned was he when she began to pray for him. She proceeded to tell him about Jesus and his love for him and the told him that she forgave him for what he was doing to her.

Apparently this was more than the robber could take. He began to breakdown in tears as he knelt and prayed together with her. To her relief, the man went to the window and told the woman that was with him that they needed to bring all that they had taken back into the house. He told her that this was a Christian woman and we can’t do this to her.

Mrs. Hartman remained on her knees in prayer as they returned her furniture and belongings. The man then used his shirt to wipe off his fingerprints, apologized and departed, leaving his gun behind.

“The power of prayer” - - - What do you think?

August 6- - -- A prayer partner

Mat 18:19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.

Let’s talk about finding a prayer partner. That person that we can “agree with as touching anything”. That someone we can pray together with for our needs

Now when you chose a prayer partner be careful that you find someone who you can trust. You will be praying for each other’s needs and some of them may be very personal, confidential and privet. You will need someone with a tight lip that will not turn your prayer into gossip

It may take some time to find this right person so be patent. Pray that God will send this person to you.

Now there is a promise attached to this scripture - - “anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven”. Notice it didn’t say some of the things or a few of the things it said anything but there must be an agreement between the two who are praying together.

What do you think?

Pray that God will grant the pastoral leadership vision and guidance regarding the ministry gifts and callings of each member of the congregation, that they might use those gift to the fullness of their potential.

August 5- - -- Pray for them which despitefully use you.

Luke 6:27-27 27 But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you, 28 Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you.

Loving those that don’t love you, blessing those that curse you and praying for those that despitefully use you might be just a little hard to do.

It says to love them but also says to pray for them. Prayer has the power to change things. It changes the one were praying for but also changes the one who is praying. So if we pray for our enemy our enemy might just stop being our enemy and might become our friend.

I would much rather have a person as a friend then to have them as an enemy. - - - What do you think?

August 4- - -- -Kingdom, power and glory forever - - (doxology)

Matthew 6:13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Matthew ends the prayer with a doxology. This is found in the King James translation only. A doxology is a short hymn of praises to God

The Lord’s Prayer consists of an opening, a time of praise, six requests and ends with a doxology.

Here in this prayer Jesus gives us a picture of how we are to pray. This was not intended to be a recitation, not saying that it is wrong to recite this prayer. I believe that it gives, both God and ourselves, great joy when we pray this prayer but as we have just seen this was given to us, by Jesus, to instruct us in the proper way to pray

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.- - - What do you think?

August 3- - - - Deliver us from evil - - (Request 6)

Matthew 6:13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Deliver us from evil or I could say the evil one. We don’t talk much about the evil one anymore. It’s like were saying “if I close my eyes he will go away”. Will I have news for you, when we close our eyes is when he grows stronger.

Right here in this Lord’s Prayer Jesus tells us to pray that we will be delivered from this evil or evil one. We are told in Ephesians that we are to guard ourselves from this evil one by putting on the armor of God.

Ephesians 6:10-12 10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Oh by the way Jesus is the amour of God so it’s as simple as putting on Jesus. I heard it once said that when the devil sees us wearing the righteousness of Jesus that he won’t be able to tell if it’s Jesus or if it’s us and he will leave us alone because the devils not about to mess around with Jesus.

“Deliver us from the evil one” - - - See you in church

August 2- - - - Lead us not into temptation - - (REQUEST 5)

Matthew 6:13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Lead us not into temptation -Temptation is not sin but it leads to sin. Sin is always preceded by temptation. So the best way to deal with sin is to avoid temptation.

So we are not to only pray that our sin be forgiven but we should pray that we not be confronted with the temptation to sin.

James 1:13-15 13 When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; 14 but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. 15 Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.

August 1- - - - Forgiving others - - (Requests 4)

Matthew 6:12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

I always get a little nervous when I pray this part of the Lord’s Prayer. Does that mean that my forgiveness from God depends on my forgiving others?

I do not believe that it means that I will be kicked out of heaven no more than it means that I will stop being God child. When I sin against my earthly father it destroys my relationship with him but I am still his son. Our forgiveness from God is unconditional it was taken care of by the blood of Jesus. Jesus took the punishment for our sin, sins I have already committed but sins I have not yet committed, therefor the debt has been paid.

I do believe that forgiving others does have a great bearing on our relationship with God. One thing I know is that my un-forgiveness hinders my prayers from beaning heard.

(Psalms 66: 18) If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me

July 31- - - - Forgive us our debts, - - (REQUEST 3)

Matthew 6:12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

Forgive us our debt – A time of confession. If you notice this comes right after a time of praise and at the time request. The reason for this is that unconfessed sin is the fastest way to have your prayers not heard. Over and over in the bible it tells us God will turn a deaf ear to those who have inequity in their hearts.

Psalm 66:18 18 If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me:

So before we pray a prayer we need to pray a prayer. Before we pray a prayer of request we must first pray a prayer askin forgiveness.

July 30- - - - Give us this day our daily bread - - (Request 1 and 2)

Matthew 6:11 Give us this day our daily bread.

Praying for our daily bread is more than just praying for our daily food. This would include all the necessities for daily living. This would be food, our health, clothing, and a place to live etc.

This would also be Gods watch care over our families, our church, our pastor and our government. And it goes on to include all the needs for our daily living.

Give us this day (and) our daily bread - - What do you think?

---------

Pray for our Churches. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that God will protect the hearts of our pastor staff and families against the deception and lure of impure thoughts and deeds.

July 29- - - - Thy will be done - - (PRAISE)

Matthew 6:10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

How can we know God’s will? -- We can know Gods will by knowing the Word of God. This is done by reading the Word of God, by studying the Word of God, by memorizing the Word of God and by meditating in the Word of God. Knowing the Word of God, is knowing the will of God.

For example the Word tells us in 2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Therefor according to the Word of God it is God’s will that none should parish. It is God’s will for everyone to enter into eternal life

Salvation is for all men. Romans 5:8 “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were YET SINNERS, Christ died for us”. Even though this gift of salvation is for everyone not everyone will receive it simply because they will not RECEIVE Jesus and His teachings.

John 1:12 12 But as many as RECEIVE HIM (JESUS), to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

“Thy will be done” - - What do you think?

Pray for our Churches. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray for wisdom and leadership for the pastoral staff in dealing with the challenges of ministry, be they physical, emotional, or spiritual.

July 28- - - - Thy kingdom come (PRAISE)

Matthew 6:10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

(Colossians 1:13-14) "He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the KINGDOM of the Son of His love...."

Jesus and the teachings of Jesus is the kingdom. John the Baptist preached “the kingdom of heaven is at hand” referring to Jesus. Jesus established Gods kingdom when he died upon the cross for our sins. We enter into this kingdom by faith, believing in Jesus and the cross.

When we pray “thy kingdom come” we are pray that the gospel of salvation be preached and be received.

“Thy kingdom come” - - What do you think?

Pray for our Churches. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray for a powerful anointing of the Holy Spirit upon our pastoral leadership.

July 27- - - - Hallowed be thy name (praise)

Matthew 6:9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

When we pray “Hollowed be thy name” we enter into a time of praise. In the Old Testament the name of God was considered to be so holy that they would not speak it or write it. For 1500 years, from Moses to Jesus, the name of GOD was never spoken throughout Ancient Israel except on Yom Kippur by the High Priest when he was alone in the innermost part of the Holy Temple.

When spoken it was referred to as "A-don-ai," meaning "Lord." When written a space was left open where the name was to be placed. Even today when a Jewish person writes the name of God the vowel is left out and is written "G-d"

I recall when I was a young boy I was taught that the name of Jesus was so holy that when it was spoken I was to bow my head. Nothing has changed the name of Jesus is still that holy.

“Hallowed be thy name” - - What do you think?

Pray for our Churches. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that members of the congregation will convey a strong witness of the gospel to their community, through integrity, love, and godliness.

July 26- - - - Our Father in Heaven (Opening)

Matthew 6:9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

Which art in Heaven – What do you think of when you think of heaven?

1 Corinthians 2:9 - But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

There is no way we can even comprehend what heaven will be like but one thing I know is that I will stand in the very presence of God.

I heard it once said, a lot of false God’s are worshiped in this world but we worship and pray to the one true God, the God “which art in heaven”.

What do you think?

-------

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that God will bless the financial needs of the church, calling believers to give generously and sacrificially through tithes and offerings.

July 25- - “Our Father”. (Opening)

Matthew 6:9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

“Our Father” We are to pray to the Father. We cannot enter into a father-son relationship with God apart from the cross of Jesus.

John 1:12 “But as many as received him (Jesus), to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name”. So looking at this verse we see apart from salvation it is impossible to call God, Our Father.

The term Father shows a Fathers relationship to his child, A Fathers love, A Fathers correction, A Fathers provision And a Fathers protection.

The term father also shows a child’s relationship to his father, a child’s submission, a child’s obedience and a child’s dependence upon the father for his needs.

So we pray “Our Father”

-------

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray for members of the congregation battling physical illness or emotional struggles, or facing spiritual needs. Ask God to minister to them in miraculous ways.

July 24 - -The Lord’s Prayer

Matthew 6:9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

We call this the Lord’s Prayer but this is really the model prayer. The Lord’s Prayer is found in John 17. In John 17 Jesus is praying for the Church. In Matthew 6 Jesus is teaching the Church how to pray. We call the model prayer the Lord’s Prayer and there in nothing wrong with this.

The Lord’s Prayer consists of
An opening
A time of praise
6 requests
A doxology

I suppose along with John 3:16 and the 23rd Psalm this is the most quoted scripture in the bible.

What do you think?

-------

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that our church services will be marked by displays of supernatural power be it in healings, spiritual gifts, and lives that are dramatically changed by Jesus Christ.

July 23 - -God knows our prayer before we pray it

Matthew 6:8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

We don’t need to pray a lot of words explaining everything to God. You see God already knows what we want before we pray.

If God already know what we need before we pray they why do we need to pray? Why doesn’t God just give it to us?

Now that is a very good question and I suppose it has been asked many times. Let me give you a little illustration that might make it easier to understand.

You see when I was a young boy I would use Dads’ car on Saturday night. I would always ask him for it. Even though he knew I wanted to use the car, never once did he give me the car unless I asked. In the Book of James it tells us that we have not because we ask not.

Matthew 21:22 And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

It’s as simple as asking in prayer.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that visitors to the church will sense the love and compassion of Christ, expressed through every member of the congregation.

July 22 - -That they shall be heard for their much speaking

Matthew 6:7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

“Do not use vain repetitions”. Once I listened to a person pray a prayer that lasted over thirty minutes and everything that they prayed could have said in three.

Our beautiful prayers do not impress God. Have you ever said, “I wish I could pray a prayer like Billy Bob, he prays such beautiful prayers. We do not impress God with our beautiful prayers. God looks at the prayer being prayed from the heart not the words coming from the mouth.

When I am in dire need of prayer I would rather have a child pray a broken prayer from the heart then someone praying a beautiful prayer from the flesh.

One of the most powerful prayers I ever heard prayed was prayed in three words. “Jesus help me”.

What do you think?

July 21 - -A good place to pray

Matthew 6:6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

Jesus goes on to tell us the proper way to pray. Jesus tells us that we are to enter into our closet when we pray.

Today when we use the word closet we think of the place where we hang our clothes but that is not what Jesus is speaking of here. Jesus is speaking of a closed place. A place away from all the distractions of the world, a place where we could be alone with God

Your closet can be anywhere. I find that when I'm driving my car is a good place to pray, for more than one reason. Driving to work or other places is a good time to be alone with God in prayer. Just be sure you keep your eyes open.

This is especially true when you’re setting in traffic. It gives you time to pray for those around you. The lady in the old car that look as if it is unable to run she looks like she’s having a hard time, pray for her. The man in the new car with those high car payment to make each month, pray for him. The lady with her children, pray for her that she will be a good mother and love and raise her children to love the Lord. I find this a great place to plray.

Where is your prayer closet?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that the women in our church will serve as leaders and role models of strength, maturity, and ministry at the church, in their families, and in the community.

July 20 - - How not to pray

Matthew 6:5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

In these scriptures leading up to the Lord’s Prayer Jesus first teaches His disciples how not to pray. and then He goes on to tell them why.

Jesus said, that the hypocrites pray in the synagogues and in the streets, so men will see and hear them. Jesus tells them that they have” received their reward.” In other words if they are praying to be heard by men then that is the only one that will hear there prayer

Does that mean we should not pray aloud in church or in our prayer group? No it simply means that we need to direct our prayers to God and not to man

Have you ever sat in a prayer meeting trying to place together a prayer just in case you are called to pray? Yes we all have but is a prayer like that really being directed to God or is it being directed to those who will be hearing us pray?

Just a thought - - what do you think - - See you in Church

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that the men in our church will have a powerful impact on its ministries, and that they will provide godly leadership in their homes, the church, and throughout the community.

July 19 - - Do not pray as the hypocrites do.

Jesus told them that they are not to pray as the hypocrites do.

Will if we’re not to pray as the hypocrites do then I think we need to first look at what makes a person a hypocrite.

The Dictionary says
A person who pretends to have virtues, moral or religious beliefs, principles, etc., that he or she does not actually possess, especially a person whose actions belie stated beliefs.

A person who pretends they have faith in God, pretends to have moral or religious beliefs. A person who talks one way and lives another. The bible has a lot to say about this person. In this verse it tells me that his prayers will not be heard but the bible says even more about this kind of person.

Matthew 7:21-24
21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

I didn’t say it - - Jesus did.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that God will bless the children of the church, protecting them from harm and helping them to grow strong in the Lord as they prepare for a lifetime of serving Christ.

July 18 - - A study in the Lord’s Prayer

Yes I know that I posted this study in the Lord’s Prayer in February of 13 but I believe that this might be a good time for us to look at it again. We have a lot of new followers of the Word who might find it helpful to them in their pray time.

Luke 11:1 And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.

We are always looking for the right way to pray. Looking for the words that will have our prayers answered.

The book of Daniel tells us that Daniel would stand at the window facing Jerusalem when he prayed (Daniel 6:10). In the Book of John the Samaritan woman asked Jesus the proper place to worship and pray. (John 4:19).

We are always looking for the right words. If we could just pray the right words then God would answer my prayers. It is not the words we pray, but what is in our hearts that God hears. “Man looks on the outward appearance but God looks upon the heart”.

“Jesus disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray”. If we were going to ask someone to teach us how to pray I can’t think of any one more capable of teach us than Jesus.

For the next few days I thought we might look at what Jesus had to say about prayer.

What do you think?

------

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that the youth in our church will stand strong for Christ in their schools and with their friends. Ask God to help each young person to follow His plan for their lives, both now and in the years to come.

July 17 - - "However, when the Son of Man comes”

Luke 18:8 - - - However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?

Believing in God, believing in prayer and believing God answers prayer is our act of faith. Will Jesus find this kind of faith when he comes?

Jesus told a parable of a widow being persistent and how she won the victory because she didn't give up hope. But what about us do we sometimes become discouraged when our prayers don’t seem to be answered? Do we stop praying, stop hoping, and stop expecting? Do we pull away from God and just give up, or will we be like the widow, and keep asking till God opens heaven with His response. Jesus told this parable that we might be encouraged.

"Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain." (1 Corinthians 15:58, RSV)

-------

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray for the shut-ins in our church, as well as those who are widowed and living alone. Ask God to bless and encourage them, anointing their lives with power for ministry as well as help for the needs they face daily.

July 16 - - The right answer at the right time

Luke 18:7 "Will he (God) keep putting them off? I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly"

Here we see Jesus applying the truth of this parable. As we look at this parable it would be easy for us to associate God with the unjust judge but we all know that God is not unjust. The point Jesus is make is that if an unjust judge could be moved by the persistence of the widow how much more would a just judge respond.

Often we cry, how long God before you answer our prayer? This is the question that is being asked in verse seven. But it is also being answered. No, God will not keep putting us off. God in his time will answer all our prayers.

It is easy to become discouraged or disappointed when the answer to our prayer does not come when we expect it. But God’s timing is always right, the right answer at the right time.

The right answer at the right time. That’s worth saying again.

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that believers throughout the church will grow in relationship with Christ as they follow the path of discipleship.

July 15 - - It says that she “kept coming.”

Luke 18:4-5 4 And he (the unjust judge) would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man; 5 Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.

This weak little widow is starting to wear down this powerful big judge. The word " troubleth" comes from a Greek word meaning to wear down or to browbeat. It could be that her coming before him repeatedly was hurting the judge’s reputation. He decided to grant her what she was due just to get rid of her.

Of course we understand that this is only a parable being told by Jesus. The parable related to those to whom it was being told. They could relate to the widow and how she was being treated and could rejoice in her receiving justice.

In no way is it saying that God is unjust. It is because of Gods justice that we need to call out for mercy. I tell you, he (God) will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?' " (18:6-8)

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that our church family will be united in our worship of God, fellowship with one another, and ministry to the community. Ask God to help believers confront and remove issues and problems that threaten this unity.

July 14 - - It says that she “kept coming.”

Luke 18:3 "And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, 'Grant me justice against my adversary.' "

“It says that she “kept coming.” This indicated a repeated action. She didn’t come just once, but many times. She kept calling out to the judge "Grant me justice.” The woman wasn’t asking for something that was not hers, she was asking only for justice. To be treated fairly under the law.

One thing you can say about her is that she wouldn’t take no for an answer. Every time court was in session, here she was asking, demanding the justice.

This parable is about being persistent in our praying, not calling out for justice as the widow did. For us to call out for justice would only bring condemnation. We call out for mercy that brings forgiveness.

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that marriages and family relationships throughout the congregation will be strengthened.

July 13 - - The widow kept coming to the judge

Luke 18:3 "And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, 'Grant me justice against my adversary.' "

A widow had little or no legal rights, When her husband died she had no legal rights to her husband’s estate. The estate would go to the male children and if she had no male children then it would go to her husband’s closes living male relative most often the older brother. Now if she had male children they would take care of her but if she was a widow with small children she might have to depend upon her family or in-laws for support. In some cases, she might manage the estate for her male children as a trustee until they become of age.

We do not know the complaint that the widow is bringing before the judge but we can see that the judge is not in sympathy with her. It appears that she has no legal counsel, as she pleads her own case. There is one thing we know about her -- she was persistent.

When it comes to prayer we need to keep on keeping on. Over and over till the heavens open and God answers our prayers. - - - What do you think?

See you in church

Jesus introduces us to the judge in this parable by telling us something of this judges’ character. He says that the judge “neither feared God nor cared about man”. This does not sound like very good credentials for a judge.

But this judge neither "Feared God" refers to having faith in God. More than likely did not believe that God existed. “Nor cared about men,” this judge had no concern for those that came before his bench. He was concerned only with himself, his own opinions, his own comfort and his own income.

We could go off the deep end and start talking about our Judges and political leaders of today but we won’t. We don’t need to talk our government down because when we do we are talking ourselves down because we are the government. What we need to do is to pray for our judges and government leaders. Pray that they will seek God’s wisdom in the way they judge and carry out the law.

Today let us pray for our court system, locally as well as the state courts and the U. S. Supreme Court. Ask God’s blessing and guidance upon judges, and that they would look to Him for help and direction.

July 11 - - Pray till the answer comes

The Widow and the Unjust Judge (Luke 18:1-8) "Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up."

In this verse we see the parable being explained before it’s told. “Jesus says that they should always pray and not give up”. The word used here is the Greek for always, means “at all times”. At all times as in over and over till you receive an answer. That means that when we pray we should expect an answer.

Notice I said expect to receive an answer. I did not say receiving what you prayed for. God always knows what is best for us, and will always answer our prayers with His and our best interest at heart. Just as we do not always give our children everything they ask for this also holds true for God. I don’t know about you but I do know my kids ask for some of the strangest things and I have to often say no. With this in mind I can see were God might have to respond in this same way with some of the things that I ask for. But God always answers our prayers, and often when he says no, in one place he says yes in another giving us something even greater.

Jesus is teaching in this parable about persistent prayer as in praying again and again and again. We are to "pray without ceasing", as we see in 1 Thessalonians 5:17. We are to pray repeatedly, time and again, and over and over till the answer comes.

Oh by the way, the answer will come. Jesus said it would.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that marriages and family relationships throughout the congregation will be strengthened.

July 10 - - Always Pray and Don't Give Up

The parable of the Widow and the Unjust Judge (Luke 18:1-8) "Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up."

The world is full of injustice. There is the old saying “who said the world was fair”. At work people are promoted because they are the boss’s brother-in-law and the one best suited for the job is making the coffee. The courts are full of people who are seeking justice. Often times they receive justice but there are times when justice just does not come.

That is what this parable is all about, Justice. But that is not what this parable is teaching. It is teaching us how to pray.

Over and over in the Bible, Jesus teaches us that we are to be persistent in our prayers. Prayer is the most important thing a born-again Christian can do. It should head our list of priorities. The world around us desperately needs our prayers. Prayer will open the door for God to do a great work in our lives and in the lives of others.

In Luke’s Gospel the eighteenth chapter we see were Jesus uses a parable to teach the importance of persistent prayer.

This parable teaches on prayer but ends with a glimpse of the second coming of Christ. It is a parable on prayer but also a parable on hope. Man should not give up but should pray expecting to receive an answer.

Just how persistent are we when we pray?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. 2 Chronicles 714 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

July 9 - - What is Prayer?

Matthew 7:7-8 7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: 8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

Prayer is asking (verse 7) Ask and it shall be given to you. James tells us 'you have not because you ask not'. So we can say that prayer is asking but prayer is also receiving; (verse 8) For every one that asketh receiveth;

Prayer is talking with God, asking and receiving. Notice I said talking with God not talking to God. I have this good friend who calls to talk to me. I said talk to me not talk with me because I never get to say anything. He tells me what is on his mind then says goodbye. This is often the way we pray. We tell God what is on our mind and then say Amen.

We need to learn to lessen to God when we pray. Yes God does speak to us in prayer but we will never hear Him until we learn to lesson.

1 Kings 19:11-13King James Version (KJV)
11 And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake: 12 And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice. 13 And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?

“a still small voice” The still small voice of the Lord. Yes God does speak to us in prayer.

For the next few days let us pray for our city, state, and nation. Pray for a supernatural move of God across our nation, bringing a new sense of revival and trust in God.

July 8 - - The prayer of two men

Luke 18:13-14 13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. 14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

Now lets look at the other prayer. The prayer that did reach God. The publican came to God in great humility. The Pharisee told God all the reasons God should answer his prayer the publican told God all the reasons God should not answer his prayer.

The publican told God that he was a sinner and that he had no right to ask God for his need. Then the publican prayed the prayer we all should pray the publican prayed for forgiveness and mercy.

Let me ask the question. Which of these prayers do you believe reached God?
Jesus tells us in verse 14 that " - - - this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted".

I love that word “justified” - - just as if he had never sinned. That the way God forgives sin, just as if you had never sinned.

What a great forgiving and merciful God.

For the next few days let us pray for our city, state, and nation. Pray for God’s protection and provision for our military. Ask that He especially bless and protect those serving in dangerous places and performing dangerous jobs. Ask for His blessing on soldiers and their families as they deal with issues of separation and loneliness.

July 7 - - The prayer of two men

Luke 18:10 10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. 11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. 12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. 13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.

Both men went to the same place, at the same time, for the same reason and that was to pray.

The Pharisee prayed in his religious pride. Not asking God but telling or demanding God to answer his prayer because of who he was and the way he lived. I know we would never do this. But the Bible is full of prayer promises. There are those that when they pray they hold these promise in front of God demanding God to do what He promised to do. Just be careful what you wave in front of God. Oh by the way God will keep his promises.

We need to understand that most promises from God come with a condition. You do this and God will do that. If a promise is not keep it is never God’s fault we need to check to see if we keep the condition.

God loves to answer your prayers.

For the next few days let us pray for our city, state, and nation. Pray for our court system, locally as well as the state courts and the U. S. Supreme Court. Ask God’s blessing and guidance upon judges, and that they would look to Him for help and direction.

July 6 - - Some prayers are never answered.

There are two kinds of prayers of request. The prayer that we pray and have the assurance that God will answer. But even then prayers are not always the way we would have them answered. Some prayers are answered the way we ask. Then some are answered the way God would have them answered. God's way is always the best way. Then some prayers are answered by God saying no.

Then we have the prayer that does not reach God and are never answered. We see this in the parable of the Pharisee and the publican (Luke 18:10-14).

Of the two prayers prayed which of the two was not answered? I’ll give you a clue. Luke 8:14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

See you in church

For the next few days let us pray for our city, state, and nation. Pray for members of the U. S. Congress and Senate, including our own, asking God to provide for them and help them. Pray as well that they will look to God for direction and guidance as they help to lead the nation.

July 5 - - God can do all things.

Jeremiah 32:27 Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there anything too hard for me?

Prayer is man's acknowledgment of who God is. Prayer is man’s acknowledgment of God being higher and greater than man. Prayer is man’s acknowledgement of God being able to change the situation. Prayer is man’s acknowledgement that God is able to bring health and healing.

So when it look like there is no salutation to our problem we turn to God this Higher Being in prayer to do the impossible.

Jeremiah 32:27 Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there anything too hard for me?

For the next few days let us pray for our city, state, and nation. Pray for the President and cabinet, that they will look to God for guidance, help, and wisdom.

July 4 - - Let’s talk about prayer

Prayer is as old as man himself. As long as man has been around man has prayed. We see prayer mentioned in the Bible as early as Genesis. 4:26. That would be on about the third or fourth page of your Bible.

Genesis. 4:26 And to Seth, to him also was born a son; and he called his name Enosh. Then people began to call on the name of Jehovah.

After Cane slue Able, Eve had another son whose name was Seth. It says that people began to call upon the name of Jehovah. Then people began to pray.

There are all kinds of prayers. Prayers of thanksgiving, prayers of praise and worship, prayers of intercession and prayers of request. I would like for us to look at the prayer of request. Now in Genesis 4:6 when it speaks of “the people calling upon Jehovah” I believe they are calling upon God because they have a need.

Most prayer’s that are prayed today are prayed because of man’s need. In many cases this is the only time man prays. Even people who calm that they do not believe in God when they find themselves in a threatening situation will turn to prayer. How does the old saying go “you won’t find an atheist in a fox hole.”

Jesus tells us in the Lord’s Prayer to pray for our daily needs. “Give us this day our daily bread”. (Matthew 6:11).

Praying for our daily needs is a good prayer to pray. I heard a preacher once say that the most powerful pray you can pray is LORD HELP ME.

What do you think?

For the next few days let us pray for our city, state, and nation. Pray that God will provide for those who are hurting and in need, both locally and nationally. Ask that He move on the hearts of believers to help meet needs in as much as they are able to do so.

July 3 - - Why I should Pray

Because Jesus said, “at all times they ought to pray (Luke 18:1). And he spake a parable unto them to this end,that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;

Because you are commanded to pray (Matthew 26:41) Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

Because prayer is the way God provides for out needs. (James 4:2). Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.

Because there is joy in prayer (John 16:24). Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

Because prayer will save you out of all your troubles (Psalms 34:6). This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all of his troubles.

Because prayer can unlock the treasure chest of God's wisdom (James 1:5). If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

Because prayer is a channel of power (Jeremiah 33:3). Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.

Because it is a sin not to pray (1 Samuel 12:23). Moreover as for me, God forbid that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you: but I will teach you the good and the right way:

Because sinners can be saved when they pray in faith (Romans 10:13, 14). For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

Because Jesus, while here in the flesh, prayed often to the Father. Now, if Jesus, the Son of God, needed to pray, then we should also pray. (1Thessalonians 5-17). Pray without ceasing.

For the next few days let us pray for our city, state, and nation. Pray for the governor, as well as state senate and congressional members and leaders.

July 2 - - Watching and praying

Nehemiah 4:17-18 They all builded the wall and they that bare burdens laded themselves; every one with one of his hands wrought in the work, and with the other held his weapon; 18 and the builders, every one had his sword girded by his side, and so builded. And he that sounded the trumpet was by me.

Here we see the building of the wall in Jerusalem. There were two groups of people that were working on the wall. They were the ones that were doing the building. They worked with one hand and held a sword with the other. Then there was the other group. They walk the wall and watch for the enemy. When they saw the enemy coming they would sounded the trumpet.

Not much has changed. We are busy doing the work with one hand and holding a sword with the other. We are busy trying to raise our families, working our jobs, doing what we are called upon to do by our church and all the time we are doing these things we are also busy praying and watching for the enemy.

The enemy is that person or things that seemed to come from nowhere to steal from us and our family. Someone else getting the promotion, just about time we get a few dollars ahead the furnace goes out, the car needs new tires. Working and praying. Work with one hand and pray with the other. Then we have the prayer warrior, that person who is called to walk the wall and watch for the enemy, watching and praying. That special person we go to when we need someone to pray for us.

We are all called to pray, be it building with one hand and holding a sword with the other or being a prayer warrior and walking the wall and watching for the enemy.

I’m talking about praying, not saying a prayer but praying. I mean pouring our hearts out to God. Praying and watching. I don't believe we truly understand the power of prayer. If we did I believe we would be praying. Most often we try everything before we ever pray when prayer should be the first thing we do.

Tell me what do you think?

For the next few days let us pray for our city, state, and nation. Pray for county leaders and officials, seeking God for provision and protection in their lives.

Note: The test has been run on my legs and two stents were put into place. Thank to each of you for your prayers. I seem to be recovering well and I can walk again. Praise and glory be given to the Lord our God.

July 1- - You have not because you ask not

James 4:2 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.

I would like for us to spend just a little time today talking about prayer. Everyone has a different opinion as to the proper way to pray, but I don’t believe that this is a problem mostly because I believe that God hears the prayer of the heart and not so much the words we speak. I believe the problem most of us have is that we just don’t pray. It is believed that most Christians don’t pray till they have a need in their lives.

1 Samuel 16:7 - - - for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.

I once heard it said that it is like this big warehouse in heaven that is bursting with wonderful answers to prayers that are never picked-up simply because the prayer was never prayed. Often those with a need never ask for help simply because they don't really believe they can be helped, or that they deserve to be helped, or that the mighty power that created the universe could possibly be concerned about their little human difficulties. So the answer to their prayer is sitting in heaven waiting for their prayer to be prayed.

I would hate to think that the answer to my prayer and the answer to your prayer in sitting in heavens warehouse waiting for our prayer to be prayed.

James says it like this - - - “yet ye have not, because ye ask not”.

For the next few days let us pray for our city, state, and nation. Pray that God will bless the efforts of business leaders and owners throughout the city, that economic conditions and employment will be strong.

June 29- - Pass the Salt, Please

Matthew 5:13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

First let us look at 2nd Kings 2:19-21 19 And the men of the city said unto Elisha, Behold, I pray thee, the situation of this city is pleasant, as my lord seeth: but the water is naught, and the ground barren. 20 And he said, Bring me a new cruse, and put salt therein. And they brought it to him. 21 And he went forth unto the spring of the waters, and cast the salt in there, and said, Thus saith the LORD, I have healed these waters; there shall not be from thence any more death or barren land.

The well in the city had become polluted so the leaders of the city called for Elisha. Elisha didn't call a fast or prayer Elisha said, “Bring me a bowl full of salt." Then Elisha cast the salt into the water. That little bowl of salt healed the water forever.

What is it about salt that makes it so important in daily life? We know that the human body cannot live without salt. Salt is essential to life. We also know that salt must be replenished daily.

This is also true of the spiritual body yet many Christians live there entire life without a grain of spiritual salt. Do you suppose this is what David is trying to tell us in Psalm 34;8 O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.

Jesus said “we are to be the salt of the earth” that would be our neighborhood and our city. That would be everyone we come in contact with daily. We are to flavor the world with the love of Jesus.

We are to flavor the world with the love of Jesus. I know I said it twice, I meant too.

See you in Church

For the next few days let us pray for our city, state, and nation. Pray that God will bring provision, help, and protection into the lives of teachers throughout the city.

June 28- - Jesus in me

2 Corinthians 5 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

We often think of the Christian life as a changed life, a substituted life with Jesus as our substitute living within us.

Galatians 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

This new life that we now have is not something that we produce but it is the life of Jesus Himself being reproduced in us. The life of Jesus being reproduced in us means that this new life, this Jesus life that we now have will grow until the very likeness of Jesus is reproduced in us.

Now how good it this - - - Jesus reproducing Himself in me?

Thank you Jesus

June 27- - Reckon yourselves to be dead unto sin.

Romans 6:11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

It says reckon yourselves to be dead. Let me tell you something about being dead. When a person is dead they will not respond to anything going on around them. Things around them will not have any effect on them at all.

You can smack a person who is dead, you can insult a person who is dead, in fact there is not anything that you can say or do that will bring about any kind of a response from a person who is dead.

Reckon yourselves to be dead to sin. That is how we are to respond to sin. No matter how sin comes to us we are to respond as being dead unto it. Sin will no longer have any power over us.

Romans 3:23 The wages of sin is death.
When we speak of the death in Romans 3:23 we are speaking of separation from God. So if were dead unto sin then sin will no longer have the power to separate us from God.

What a great verse. It says “Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord”. Not only are we dead unto sin but we are alive unto God”.

Thank you Jesus

For the next few days let us pray for our city, state, and nation. Pray that God will give wisdom and direction to the mayor, city council, and all other city leaders.

June 26- - Jesus did it all

1 Thessalonians 5:24 Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.

Jesus is the one who calls us unto himself but Jesus is also the one who does what he calls us to be. The one who died for us now lives in us.

Philippians 2:13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

This is so hard for us to understand. You see we have this thing in us that makes us want to do it ourselves. I recall my children at a very young age shouting “let me do it”. So when I am told that Jesus did it and Jesus is doing it I find it hard to let go and let Jesus do it.

Everything need for my salvation has been done for us by Jesus and everything I need to life the life that Jesus called me to live has already been done for me by Jesus. The only thing left for me to do is to believe.

At last I found something I can do. I can believe.

For the next few days let us pray for our city, state, and nation. Pray that people throughout the city will open their hearts to the voice of God, and grasp that He has a loving and eternal plan for their lives.

Note: I have been seeing a few doctors and it looks as if they may be doing quite a few tests on me for the next few weeks. I hope it will not interfere with posting the devotional but if it does you need to know why.

June 25- - He that receives you receives me

Matthew 10:40 He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.

The relationship we have with Jesus should be so close that it would be impossible to separate the two of us. Jesus tells us in this scripture that when they receive you they are also receiving me and when they receive me that are also receiving the Father who sent me.

Jesus in the Father and the Father in Jesus. Jesus in me and I am in Jesus. All of us one in each other.

John 14:19-20 Jesus said to His disciples, “After a little while the world will no longer see Me, but you will see Me; because I live, you will live also. In that day you will know that I AM IN MY FATHER, AND YOU IN ME, AND I IN YOU.

Just remember whatever we do and wherever we go Jesus is with us. That can be good but that can also - - - - depending on whatever we do and wherever we go.

What do you think?

For the next few days let us pray for our city, state, and nation. Pray that people throughout the city will open their hearts to the voice of God, and grasp that He has a loving and eternal plan for their lives.

June 24- - Confess Jesus before man

Matthew 19:32 Whosoever therefore shall confess me (Jesus) before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.

Our relationship with the Father depends on our relationship with Jesus. If we confess or I could say profess Jesus before men then Jesus will profess us before the Heavenly Father. It all depends on how we respond to the call of Jesus on our lives.

I don’t know about you but one thing I do know is that I want Jesus to profess me before the Father. There is no such thing as an undercover Christian. We are required to profess Jesus openly.

I can do that - - - - -can you?

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that God will grant the pastoral leadership a strong sense of vision for the church and congregation.

June 23- - You must be born again

John 3:1-3 3 There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: 2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. 3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

It was almost as if Jesus did not hear what Nicodemus was saying Nicodemus was talking about what a great teacher Jesus was and the miracles Jesus has done but Jesus answered by saying “YOU MUST BE BORN AGAIN”.

Jesus went straight to the point. I think we can learn a lot by what Jesus did. The Good News of the Gospel is all about being born again.
Just as a man enters into the physical world by physical birth man enters the spiritual world by spiritual birth. That is why Jesus said you must be born again. One becomes a spiritual being, a child of God when one is born again.

John 3:9-10, 14-18 9 Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be? 10 Jesus answered and said unto him, - - - .14 - - - as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: 15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Wow, I can do that, - - - - - - How about you, have you been born again?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that God will grant the pastoral leadership vision and guidance regarding the ministry gifts and callings of each member of the congregation, that they might use those gifts to the fullness of their potential.

June 22- - Jesus is God

Hebrews 1:1-3 1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, 2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; 3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high:

Three great verses telling us about Jesus.

The first verse tells us that in times past God spoke to us by the prophets. The second verse tells us that now in the last days, the days we are in now, God speaks to us through the teachings of Jesus. It goes on to tell us that Jesus created the universe and that Jesus is heir to everything that He created. In other words all things were made by Jesus and for Jesus.

Verse three tells us that Jesus is a reflection of the brightness of the Father’s glory and the exact likeness of the Father’s own being. That Jesus sustains the universe with His powerful word. It goes on to tell us that after Jesus achieved forgiveness for our sins that He sat down in heaven at the right side of the Father the Supreme Power.

Our God (Jesus) is an awesome God, He reigns from Heaven above. With wisdom power and love, Our God is an awesome God.

It doesn’t get any better than this.

See you in church.

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that the pastoral leadership will be blessed with the guidance and anointing of the Holy Spirit.

June 21- - Jesus is the way

John 14:6 6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Jesus said “I am the way”. I don’t know the number of time that I have been told that all roads lead to heaven. That all you need do is to try to lead a good life and be sincere in what you believe and you will make it in. I even heard a well know TV preacher once say that we all believe in the same god we just call him by different names.

Will don’t you believe it. There is only one way and Jesus tells us that “He is the way” the only way.

Jesus tells us that “He is truth and He is life and no man cometh unto the Father, but by Him”

So I suppose we had better be careful what we believe. All roads do not lead to heaven. Jesus is the way the only way.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that God will help the pastoral staff develop strong relationships with other pastors and churches in the community, as well as with community leaders.

June 20- - Rejoice by choice

Psalm 118:24 This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.

Wow what a bible verse and what a way to start the day. First we are starting the day in praise to the God who created everything. Giving God praise for this day, the today that we are in now and all that it holds for us.

Then it tells us that we have a say into what kind of day it is going to be. It tells us that we can choice to rejoice and be glad or we can choice not to rejoice and be glad. The way we accept the day has a lot to do with what kind of day it will be.

I had a pastor who once said that we REJOICE BY CHOICE.

What do you think?

June 19- - They Are Because We Are

1 Kings 15 verse 26 "But he did what was evil in the LORD's sight and followed the example of his father, continuing the sins of idolatry that Jeroboam had led Israel to commit."

The key word in this verse is example. I think sometimes we can forget that every action we take is an example to others. We are either exampling godly behavior or ungodly behavior. Obviously Jeroboam exampled ungodly behavior - and unfortunately, since he was king of Israel, his bad example had far-reaching effects.

Even though we are not kings, I do believe that our examples have a bigger impact than we realize. Our kids, our parents, our neighbors, our co-workers, the stranger on the street, the person at the coffee shop, are all watching what we do. How we behave. Our very lives are examples to many people each and every day.

What type of example are we setting by the way we live?

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that God will strengthen and bless family relationships among our pastoral staff.

June 18 - - It took both Love and Hate

Matthew 12:14 14 Then the Pharisees went out, and held a council against him (Jesus), how they might destroy him.

The ministry of Jesus was mixed with those that loved Him and followed Him and those that despised Him and plotted to kill Him

Both were very important in His ministry. Jesus came to show the love of God but Jesus also came to die on the cross.

It took both love and hate to complete His ministry.

This was the beginning of the end to which Jesus was called. Jesus came to be nailed to the cross. Jesus came to take the punishment for our sin

Hebrews 9:22 (New American Standard)22 And according to the Law, one may almost say, all things are cleansed with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.

June 17 - - Man does not live by Bread alone

Matthew 4:4 Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.

Love that scripture. It tells us that in the same way bread feeds the body the Word of God feeds the spirit. Next to drinking water eating is the most important thing we can do for our body but a great number of us (present company excluded I hope) will often go days without feeding the spirit.

So my question would be “what is more important, feeding the body that is going to die or feeding the spirit that is going to live forever”?

What do you think?

June 16 - - Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?

Matthew 12:9-10 9 And when he was departed thence, he went into their synagogue: 10 And, behold, there was a man which had his hand withered. And they asked him, saying, is it lawful to heal on the sabbath days? that they might accuse him.

The value of life overrules all rules, regulation or restrictions. The value of life even overrules the law.

Suppose you saw someone drowning and then you saw a sign saying no swimming. Would you break the law and swim out and try to save the person drowning or would you obey the law and let the person drown?

Now that’s a real stupid question. Of course we would break the law and try to save the person who is drowning. But isn’t that exactly what we are seeing here.

We see the Pharisees demanding that Jesus keep the law of the Sabbath and let the man with the withered had remain sick. But we see Jesus setting aside the law and ministering to a person who is in need.

I said set aside the law I didn’t say break the law. Jesus knew that this was not the law given by God but simply a law that the Pharisee had created.

We have a saying at my house and it goes like this. “PEOPLE ARE MORE IMPORTANT THEN THINGS”.

What do you think?

June 15 - - Happy Father’s Day

How can we celebrate Father’s Day without turning our thoughts to our Heavenly Father? So what I would like for us to do is to stop and think about the Goodness of our Heavenly Father.

We give gifts to our earthly Father but what kind of a gift could we give to our Heavenly Father, the One who not only has everything but the One who created everything.

1 Samuel 15:22 "Samuel said, "Has the LORD as much delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices As in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice"

Why not give our Heavenly Father what He wants, our obedience. It tells us in this verse that God desires our obedience better than sacrifice.

See you in Church.

June 14 - - The reason for the miracle.

Mark 2:10-12 10 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,) 11 I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house. 12 And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion.

Jesus’ purpose for coming was to transform and change lives. Not everyone understood this. So when Jesus spoke words like “your sins are forgiven” people began to question who Jesus was. So Jesus often needed to resort to a miracle in order for them to understand that He was and is God.

Jesus said, “so that you might know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins” he spoke to the paralyzed man and said, "I tell you, get up, pick up your mat, and go home!"

So you see the miracle of healing was for the purpose of showing the people that He had the power to forgive sin.

I am so glad that Jesus has the power to heal and I am so very glad that Jesus has the power to forgive sin.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that God will strengthen and bless family relationships among our pastoral staff.

June 13 - - Purpose for the healing

Mark 2:10-12 10 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,) 11 I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house. 12 And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion.

There is more to this story than a paralyzed man being healed. What we are really seeing is Jesus doing the work of the Father. This is about Jesus doing what He was sent to do.

The reason for the healing and the reason for Jesus leaving heaven and becoming a man and dwelling among us can be found in Luke 4:18-19.

"The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me (or sent me) to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor" (Luke 4:18, 19).

Nothing has changed. This is still the reason that Jesus came. The reason Jesus came 2000 years ago and the reason that Jesus comes to each of us today.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that the lives of our pastoral staff will be marked by integrity and godliness.

June 12 - - Thinking to themselves

Mark 2:6 6 Some teachers of the Law who were sitting there - thought to themselves

“Thinking to themselves” sometimes, can get us into a whole lot of trouble. Thinking to yourself can lead to sin or can become a blessing. I suppose it all depends on what we’re thinking. Every action first must become a thought. We think it and then we do it.

Mark describes the religious leaders as "sitting there, thinking to themselves." Jesus asked them, "Why are you thinking these things?" Jesus 'looked into their minds and saw what they were thinking'.

What does God see when he looks into our mind? Psalm 139 says that there is nothing you can hide from God.

Psalm 139:2 You know everything I do; from far away you understand all my thoughts. 3 You see me, whether I am working or resting; you know all my actions. 4 Even before I speak, you already know what I will say. 5 You are all around me on every side; you protect me with your power. 6 Your knowledge of me is too deep; it is beyond my understanding. 7 Where could I go to escape from you? Where could I get away from your presence? 8 If I went up to heaven, you would be there; if I lay down in the world of the dead, you would be there. 9 If I flew away beyond the east or lived in the farthest place in the west, 10 you would be there to lead me, you would be there to help me. 11 I could ask the darkness to hide me or the light around me to turn into night, 12 but even darkness is not dark for you, and the night is as bright as the day. Darkness and light are the same to you.

What are you thinking?

Jesus asked them, "Why are you thinking these things?"

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that the lives of our pastoral staff will be marked by integrity and godliness.

June 11 - - Run to the door or run to the altar

Mark 2:5-7 5 When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee. 6 Some teachers of the Law who were sitting there - thought to themselves, 7 "How does he dare talk like this? This is blasphemy! God is the only one who can forgive sins!"

Now the first thing I would like to say is “GOD CAN DO ANYTHING HE CHOOSES TO DO”.

Now it was the statement that Jesus made that raised a problem with the religious leaders. I am so glad that were not that way today. I am so glad that we don’t get upset when we see Jesus move in a way that we had never seen Him move before.

I was wondering what would happen if we saw Jesus move in a miracles way in one of our churches today. If Jesus touched in such a way that a person was completely healed in front of the church. I was wondering how many would run for the door and how many would run for the altar.

Just a thought - - - What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that the lives of our pastoral staff will be marked by integrity and godliness.
