Planning on the Run the River 10K on April 21. Also supporting the Lanier Running Club on April 28 (and celebrating my 31st birthday at the same time!) at the Spring Chicken 5K in Gainesville.

Would love to meet some other Spark Runners in the Gainesville area.

Signed up for the Fallen Heros of Georgia 5K on March 17th at Lake Lanier Islands. Seriously debating the Iron Girl Triatholon (if I can get my swimming ready...)on May 20 also at Lake Lanier Islands. That is, if my boyfriend and I decide not to do Warrior Dash the same weekend at Camp Blue Ridge. Anyone who has never been to this one...it's an awesome race...ppl run in costume through military style obstacles (including jumping fire pits)...anyone who would want to join me on any of these let me know.....

I'm finally getting back into running, AND I'm new to Georgia.

I'm starting back at square one with C25K after a year of inconsistent running. Sucks because I had finally set a personal record of three miles non-stop! I just don't get the same feeling from anything else though, so I'll start back at the beginning if I have to. emoticon

My husband and I have registered for the October 8th 5k at the Tanger Outlets in Locust Grove. emoticon

Saw your post about a run at Warner Robins and was all excited and then realized it was for Jan 2011 and not Jan 2012 coming up. So I just wanted to say hope you enjoyed the run and please post if there are any more soon. I love Warner Robins and have been trying to get my hubby to go back down there to the FAMCAMP for a long weekend -- if I had a run planned I am sure I could talk him into it! lol

The Sweetwater 420 5K was great, probably could have been organized better, but the weather was awesome, the crowd was awesome. Not sure on exact timing but I did manage to run way more than I thought I would be able to. The crowd really motivates you to push just a little harder. I am really looking forward to doing another now. Better get back to training!

I will be doing the Sweetwater 420 Fest 5K tomorrow. First one. I'm excited! But I have not been training like I should have so I will probably end up walking most of it. I will be happy if I can run a little, maybe a quarter of it.... And I will be even happier if it isn't raining. Anyone else going to be there?

Dee! If you get this, lets try and meet up before the race.

Becki, Lori and I - and hopefully some other sparkers can meet in front of the VIP tent at 6:20. I'll be coordinating the Half Fanatics pic there... Look for our blue shirts, although I'll have a white one with the blue logo.....

Hope to see you!

Hey MONIQUE, I didn't even notice the name mix up, my brain saw it correctly, lol. I think I will be skipping the Women's 5k, I didn't get off to the best training start, had trouble with the cold. Instead I will be doing the Sweetwater 420 Fest 5k on April 16 cuz my Dad can do that one with us and I like the cause. Last years money went toward making a walking trail in Candler Park. And there is beer, lol. It is warmer now and I have been walking a lot so even if I can't run it I will definitely be able to walk it. So excited!

To SAMSHELL19...I too want to become a runner. So, to keep myself motivated to keep moving, I signed up for the Marietta Mardi Gras 5K. http://www.marietta5k.com/ It's on February 12 and I figure even if I don't run the whole thing, at least it will have been something fun to do. Thanks for mentioning the Atlanta Women's 5K. I might sign up for that one too.
Good luck to you! And remember, there's no shame in walking...it's way better than sitting on the sofa. :-)
Have a great day!!

Absolutely as long as you have a reasonable finish time goal. I generally start training for that race the first of January. The book Marathoning for Mortals by John Bingham and Jeff Gallaway's website have some great training programs. Remember that you aren't starting from scratch since you are already exercising most days. It is a fun race and gives me some much needed motivation to exercise on the winter days when I would rather stay in bed. Hope I'll see you there!

Hi All, I've done half marathons in the past doing a walk/jog, the last one I did was back in May '10. I exercise 5-6 days a week for 45-60 minutes per day. Lots of walking. What I am wondering is it possible to be ready for the Georgia 1/2 marathon on March 20th, if you start training now?

I want to start running. I'm a big walker... or I was, been lazy lately. I tried running a little last spring, sort of doing the C25k but, you know, made excuses (It's too hot, my shins hurt, I don't have time) and stopped. I keep reading everywhere that the best way to do it is to sign up for a run cuz you are more motivated if you have money put on it. So, I'm thinking of doing the Atlanta Women's 5k on March 26. I think I've convinced my mom and sister to do it with me. One of the beginner to 5k training programs I found takes 10 weeks, so I should have plenty of time to train for that right? But I'm a little worried about running/beginning in the cold (I don't have a treadmill). Tips? Suggestions? Or should I just wait for a later run and start when it isn't 20 degrees outside?

Well tomorrow is the big day! It is going to be beautiful in Athens. I will see if I can pick you out of the crowd in the morning. I will most likely have on a pink top with black shorts...but will probably have that covered by a garbage bad to stay warm at the start. I have brown hair that will be in a ponytail and hope to line up around the 2:05-2:15(ish) time group. I hope you and your friend have a great race!

It is! One of the girls set that team up for some "slower" runners.

I will be running this one as a training run for a full I have coming up, and will likely be wearing whats in my profile pic.

Come up and say hi if you see me... Since you don't have a pic up, it'll be hard for me to find you! HAHA

Hello,

I will be there. I think it will be a lot of fun. I did the inaugural ING Georgia too so hopefully I will stick with the Athens one as well. The course will be hilly from what I hear. I saw the Penguins picture on your page. Would that be Penguins as in John Bingham "waddle on" Penguins : ) Love his Marathoning for Mortals book.

I was only on Week 4 of c25k and loving my progress but have now been sidelined! I ignored a pain in my heal for a week, and now I can't as the pain even occurs when I'm not exercising. Someone suggested it could be plantar fasciitus. I looked it up and found many similar symptoms. But I also saw them with tarpals tunnel syndrome (because of the tingling I'm experiencing in the heal and up through the ankle). Obviously, I'm not able to go to the doctor about it right now. Has anyone here dealt with this? If so, what did you do?

Yes! I've actually found 3 that I'm interested in. There is a 5k for Breast Cancer on October 23rd, there is one for Leukemia and Lymphoma on October 30th, and then there is one for Lung Cancer on November 6th. I plan to run the one on 11/6, but I'm considering one of the other to start off with! I'm really excited!

I'm new to running, although I've started the C25K several times without finishing. I want to run a 5k before the end of the year, and I'm really going to commit to my program this time. You runners on here really encourage me to keep going!

I decided to try the couch to 5k program (conservative). It's a 7-month long program designed for beginners who are overweight emoticon

I'll be starting with Phase II. Maybe I'll see some of you at a run in 6 months!!! I'll be the thin red-head! lol emoticon

Its SOOO nice! You can get lost (in a good way) out there all day! Especially if you run the trails, and not just the pavement. I have tons of pics on my FB page - don't know if the link will work or not, but here it is:

Nothing wrong with walking--heck, speedwalking is an Olympic sport!!! Let your heart rate be your guide and just get out there--walk, jog, meander, run, sprint, stroll....in the long term, it doesn't matter how FAST you move, but rather how far.

:)

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. ~Colossians 3:23-24

Thanks, girlfriend!

Well, that's good, because Run/walk is what I do! I am very proud of myself, because I did prove to myself that the interval training is great way to get a good time, with walking, running, and sprinting. My best 5k time so far is 36:51.

I guess I was thinking that I just wouldn't need it anymore, but I've only been doing this for a month!

For Heaven's sake, Rebecca, you are doing great, give it time. snort! :P

Then run walk!

Go check out the couch 2 5k program and Jeff Galloways method of runwalking. Don't pressure yourself to run continually! As long as you are out there, thats what counts!!!! AND, with Galloways runwalk method, you can have times BETTER than some runners!

As for the heat! YES!!! I will probably be at St Mtn around 6:30 am again tomorrow... And even THAT will feel like crap! Although I may change it up and go to another park to run.... hmmmm

Oh, and Rebecca, this is CERTAINLY a hard time of year to try and start running - heat and humidity make it HARD for anyone! And seriously, I rarely run more than 2 miles before I take a walk break.... My best 5k time is 29 mins, so even with walk breaks you can do it!!!

Don't give up, just do what you can FOR YOU!!!

Thanks, Wendy!
I just don't know how to progress with running. every time I run, it's just as hard as the last time! My Mom found out recently that she may have exercise induced asthma, even though she doesn't require an inhaler or anything, she just does not have the stamina to run. I wonder if I'm suffering from the same problem.

I think I need a trainer, because I just wont push myself, especially on hills. Maybe i'm meant to be a walker. ;(

How's everyone been coping with the heat? Ugh!

I must admit, I've been a fan of the treadmill lately because it's been so nasty.

I have to get in 12 miles for the 3day tomorrow and something tells me I'll be out at the crack of dawn to avoid the heat.

H2O - I put a post on your sparkpage regarding details for your run.

Rebecca - welcome! Unfortunately, I'm not too close to Kennesaw, but if we do some of the same runs, it would be great to meet up! We have a good little group of sparkers that do get together for misc races...

Hello everyone!
My name is Rebecca and I'm pretty new to Sparkpeople and just started posting on the team pages.

I recently started running again after an 11 year absence for no other reason than I moved to Georgia and don't like humidity.

Finally, I have decided that it's the thing that really kept me thin and I'd like to be there again!

I have run the Peachtree twice, including this year and 2 5k's; hunger walk/run and run for life in Kennesaw.

I have trouble running the whole distance but I'm improving all the time. anyone who runs in kennesaw and would like to train, I'm here for laughs!

Rebecca

I signed up for a 5K in Ellijay, GA for August 14th but I have no other information like time it starts or even a number to contact anyone about it. I saw it on active.com and was wondering if anyone else knew about this race?

Thanks.

Have you looked at the PTC Tri Club? I know they get together for runs, too.

I have family in that area, but I'm too far to "run" with you.

However, if you keep checking, some of us GA Sparkers get together for various events around here, and we'd love to have another one join in!

Hi ya'll
I was looking for a group of people or a person who runs in my area. I see Peachtree City in the forum so I thought I would post here that I would like a running buddy if anyone is interested ;-)
Had a group of us that use to run together but they all quit over the summer. I can't quit I love this sport!! I usually run a 5k or 10K around lake PTC but would like to train for more and race. So far racing has only been 5k's
Anyway let me know if any of you can meet up. I run in the mornings my husband works the late shift and we have a daughter.
Keep putting one foot in front of the other ;-)

It's my dream to jog a 5K, but I'll start with being able to walk one. I joke that if I did one today, the people would send out a search party thinking I had lost my way (Because so much time had passed).

If anyone knows of a group in Macon, GA that takes absolute out of shape beginners, please send me the info.

thanks!

I'm new here, so I wanted to say hi to other GA runners. I just started running, so it's more a like a waddle for me. I'm looking forward to starting to train again and getting some endurance built up.
