I definately think it gets harder as you get older. I'm 27 now and I've had to really work to get the weight off. It's taken me over a year. But then I was obese for a very very long time before I dropped all of the weight so to me over a year didn't seem like that long *chuckle*.

Yes, I think it's metabolism, but I really think a lot of that is manifested in a lower level of activity, in my case anyway. I'm 28 now, and when I was in HS I played soccer for 3 hours every single day. I could eat a whole pizza every day and it would not have shown up in weight at all. After I went to college, I stopped working out at all, but continued eating at the same level. This was a problem on so many levels. One, I did not have the same level of activity in general, but two it also I think slowed down metabolism too.

"There's always today."

Your metabolism does slow with age however, at 24 I don't really think that you can say your metabolism has slowed due to aging.

I completely understand. My freshman 15s were actually freshman 30s. I literally gained over 30 lbs my first year of college. I didn't even know it was physically possible to gain so much in a year. It then took me over two years to lose it. Luckily, I was so stressed out my first year of law school that I lost 25 lbs. Needless to say the scale has been all over the place. And now thanks to the inevitable aging process, I've been stuck at the same weight for months even with a healthy diet and consistent exercise.

Good topic! It really stinks that I have to gain some more weight in a few years when my metabolism slows down. The freshmen 15 didn't hit me until 21 but that could have been the I-can-go-to-bars-15 pounds so maybe less interest in drinking will keep my weight the same. :)

I have noticed this too! It really is hard at first to understand because you are so use to just being able to loose the weight without any problems and now its like- I have to actually work at this?! Plus, I noticed as I have gotten older I am not as active anymore which may also be a big part to it. I keep reading that eating 6 small meals a day actually can help your metabolism. Although that is often easier said then done depending on where you work and what your lifestyle is like. For me I am just going to try and eat healthy and exercise.

I did notice a change too, I will be 25 in a couple weeks, I noticed it when I turned 23 as well! If you have been losing weight, and now you aren't, maybe you have hit a plateau. Try mixing things up a bit, our bodies can get used to the things we are doing and adjust accordingly.

I definitely understand. I'm 23 and it just gets harder to lose weight as the years go on. Its ok because it just makes me work that much harder!

Yep, yep! Women encounter two metabolism "slow downs" in their 20s, one in the earlier part (freshman 15??) and another in the latter part (26-30). You can definitely fight it with a few metabolism boosting tricks, though :)

1. Cardio
2. 100% daily fiber
3. Coffee hehehehehehe
4. Good diet

Good luck!

I've noticed that it's been harder to lose weight - but I always just attributed it to the bad habits I just can't seem to kick and lack of will power in certian situations.

It might be in part to my getting older... I have to work out a little bit more and watch my calories a little bit more carefully. 4 years ago, I could have a weekend of partying and still lose weight. Now, if I'm not careful I'll either maintain or gain and it takes the entire week to get it off again.
...but I hope I'm not slowing down too significantly yet at only 26!

My 24th birthday is around the corner and I've noticed that it's getting harder for me to lose weight. Usually if I eat right and workout I can lose 2 lbs in a week. For the past couple of weeks I either gain weight or stay the same. I can't seem to lose weight. I can't help but wonder if this is a result of aging. Is my metabolism really slowing down already? Just wondering if anyone else noticed a change in their mid-twenties.
