The whole "you probably gained muscle" would be great to believe but the fact is that unless you are taking some serious supplements and doing MAJOR strength training, you didn't gain a ton of muscle. (It takes most women several months to gain a few pounds of pure muscle)
1.25 pounds per week is right on the money. You should definitely set goals outside of the scale. (A new pant size for example)
I have only lost 12 pounds in the last six months but it has resulted in dropping 3 pant sizes and several inches. I know it's frustrating to see "small" loses but you should be proud of yourself and focus on the rest of the results you are getting!

I know its frustrating to put in so much effort and not see the number move that much, but I have to agree that you should also measure your non-scale progress. Keep track of how many inches you've lost, how your clothes fit, how much more energy you have, or progress made in what you can do while working out. The point is that the scale is moving in the right direction. I know alot of people who would love to lose 5lbs in 4 weeks - so congratulations on your progress so far.
Oh! I should also mention that it could be that you're gaining muscle which weighs more than fat.. so the net loss doesn't seem as great. Your scale won't know if you've lost 8lbs of fat and gained 3lbs of muscle.. it'll only tell you that you've lost 5 lbs. Other ways of checking is by how your clothes are fitting, or by keeping track of your measurements (e.g. Chest, Waist, Hips, Thighs).
If you look at my page, weight wise I'm making slow progress, but I have noticed the difference in how my clothes fit and by using the measuring tape.
5lbs in 4 weeks is awesome! Especially since it's recommended that you only lose 1-2 lbs/week to keep the weight off. I know how you feel though, b/c you are putting in all this work, it's only fair that the scale reflects that...
This may not be applicable to you - since I don't know exactly what your routine is - but it could be that you are either not eating enough or exercising too much? www.netnutritionist.com/fa2.htm If you're not eating enough to support all the exercise you are doing so your body is holding on to what it can? Hopefully the link will make better sense.

Hi all, I am in desperate need of advice/motivation. I am 5'5'' & 240. I have been eating healthy, cutting out snacks at night, drinking water, and excercising DAILY for over a month. I have only lost 5 pounds. I'm so upset, how will I ever reach my goal? I really need advice. Thanks, Whitni :(
