Finally had the courage to step on the scale for the first time since the weekend festivities. Looks like I'm right back in my target area! I think getting on track for a few days before weighing in was the better idea, better than bumming myself out, and feeling discouraged over something that will be ok in a few days.

Sorry to hear that, Khan. :( People change, and grow apart, but on the bright side there are billions of people in the world to befriend! Glad to hear other things are positive though. I know how much of a difference proper medication can be, so I'm really happy you're working on finding what works best for you.

I had a bad gain recently, and it made me kind of depressed today. I got back on track, and I know it's mostly water retention, and food weight, but it still gets to me. Hopefully it balances out in the next few days so I can see where I'm actually at.

And I apologize to getting back to this really late. I wish I would have seen your advice at that point as I was going through a very rough patch. I am no longer in the wedding because I realized that people who I considered my friends weren't and that I was just going to be in the wedding because I thought that I could try and hold what fragile remains we had of the friendship together, which I was wrong. I have seen a shift in my thinking recently. I got on different medication and signed up for personal training sessions which is making me see what I am really capable of and that I can work harder than I thought.

I apologize for the late reply. I really want to encourage you to take a good look at your environment. Look at all the people in your life, the things you have, and the beliefs you hold within yourself. These are all things that encourage you to keep being the person that you are. So not only do you have to change your thoughts and feelings about food (no small feat), you also have to alter your environment to fit your change. This sounds like a huge undertaking, and it is, but you can do it. The path to changing your life is made up of trying small changes and building upon those. So instead of trying to revamp your whole life overnight, try to replace dinner with a salad for two weeks. Once you're successful at that, maybe try to walk 5 minutes every morning before you start your day. And so on.. It's about momentum. Start small and build up to the big things. You really can do it!!

Stay Excellent :)

My name is Kristen, I have been trying to lose weight for almost two years. I used to be 255 lbs, now I am 239 lbs and the lowest I have been recently is 223, and that was in July. I am on my third time around in this up and down, and I am at the point that if I don't shape up again and lose some weight by next Friday (the 13th) I am taking a hiatus from my nutritionist. She is not doing it to be mean, but because I am just not using my tools. I have been doing a lot of self sabotage as of late, bingeing. My recent triggers are because I have a dress fitting for my friend's wedding (I'm a bridesmaid) and I do not feel like getting in front of everyone and showing them what I look like in a dress (and especially since my friend, the bride, has dropped 50+ pounds in half a year). And it's all very weird sounding that I would do that, but it's how I deal. I really really need to work on myself or else I am thinking maybe I should just give up.

I can completely relate! I am a student too, and sometimes everything can become so hectic. I think something that may really help is taking very small steps. So what if you can't work out 5 times a week. If you can workout once or twice a week, that is awesome. I believe that you can achieve what you really want to. To become something different, we have to do something different.
Stay Excellent,
Kara

My name is Kara, and weight has been a struggle all of my life. I used to think I was big at 190, but now that I'm 220 I feel like my weight is out of hand. I am athletic, but I have a love for food that defies all diets (so far). So now, I am really trying to change my lifestyle. I really wanted to join a group and connect with people who has been where I am or who is going where I want to be. I'm super social, so it helps not being alone in this :) My sister will be getting married next October, and I want to look really good for that. My goal is to lose 102 pounds total by November 26,but especially lose at least 80-90 by October 23, 2014.
We can do it!

Stay Excellent :)

So I need tips on cutting my portion size and/or ignoring cravings. I LOVE food. I LOVE to cook. Growing up it was all about Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, and Food Network. It's not something I can just give up. I've tried the whole "why don't you just cook healthier food." The problem is I know I'm capable of cooking rich food and I'll typically submit.

Hi everyone, I like JBARNOFSKI have taken a hiatus for a while from Spark. I have been so busy this semester so it's been hard to keep up. It seems that once a semester ends I get my life back. So now I am back hoping to continue on the healthy habits and make some long lasting changes.

So I have done a ton of different diet programs and they all say that when you're trying to lose weight, you should weigh yourself once a week at the same time of day wearing roughly the same clothing (or just hop on first thing in the morning before you take a shower). The rationale is that you can see the progress from the week and you won't get discouraged with the daily fluxations that can happen from a day of too much salt, bloating, etc. that can give you the impression you're actually gaining weight and make you give up.

That said, my gyncologist told me that when you're trying to maintain weight, research shows that people who step on the scale daily have more success at not gaining. More on that can be found at this website here, http://www.apa.org/monitor/nov07/daily.asp
x.

Hope this helps!

I'm not strict on my diet and eat basically what I want, just not as much as I used to and concentrate on adding more fruits and water to my meal plan. I walk more and do random exercises but don't follow a weekly routine. With this being said, I've lost roughly 5 pounds in 2 months. I do want to drop at least 5 more to be in the 'average' category on the BMI scale, and your ideas have helped motivate me, thanks! If I can cut out the naughty foods I enjoy like dessert and dairy and white carbs I think I can loose a bit more in the next couple weeks and help motivate me down the line. Much appreciated & Good luck 2u!!!

Are you eating too many carbs? Sometimes switching to more protein and veggies and less carbs can do the trick.

I could definitely snack all day long and not even realize how much I've actually ingested. I'm doing better about on Sundays I will bag up my snacks for the week. If I know each little baggie has 200 calories, then you have to acknowledge that you've finished one serving and are having another one. I don't always stop at just one serving, but at least I'm aware of how much I'm actually eating. Even just putting the almonds in a bowl instead of eating them out of the bag is helpful!

I had a similar situation where i lost 40lbs quickly and easily and then maintained my weight for a whole year. with 40lbs still to go to reach my goal it was so frusterating. I finally broke down in June and did a 3 week instensly strict DIET. Very very basic, very easy to follow but cut out every single bite of bad food. Finally got back into weightloss mode. I basically did a no dairy, no sugar, no white carbs, no fried foods. And then stuck to 3 meals per day, 100 g of a lean protien, 2 cups of 1 vegetable and 1 peice of fruit.... 3x per day makes it a healthy plan but somewhat boring. HOWEVER, I lost 15lbs in 3 weeks so it was worth it. i'm back to regular healthy habits but not as strict, like I actually mix veggies and make stir fry or salads. but, staying in the general rules, No dairy, no sugar, no white carbs, no fried foods. and continuing to lose. Good luck on everything. I know how frusterating a plateau can be.

Hello
I'm looking for suggestions i have lost 30 lbs on my own and would like to lose another 20. I am at a stand still and have been for about 6 months. I picked up doing kickboxing 3 to 4 times a week about 20 weeks ago. Any suggestions to get me through this plateau.

Hi all! Happy Friday!

I'm new to the group, but not to Spark. However, this time around I am fully vested and feeling really good about what the structure of the plan is doing for me.

As for snacking, I have to plan them, or else I do it mindlessly. I spend some time portioning things like almonds, hummus, and chopped veggies to make grab-and-go in the mornings easier. It really helps!

hey! I know what you mean... i can eat a lot, especially sitting at my desk. A dietitian recently suggested to me that I try to get at least 2 food groups, if not 3 in a snack. This was so simple, but it has helped me stretch out my snacking. I am open to more suggestions though!

I think that it is important to eat often so that you keep your metabolism in high gear I think that you need to make sure that you get some meals in opposed to snacking. Trust me, I know how hard it is to say no to snacking...I love all nuts, almonds, cashews, peanuts or any kind of nut butter. But, I find that when I get solid meals in throughout the day, especially breakfast, my snacking is under control.

my problem with snacking, is that I don't stop. when i have almonds (I love them) I can't just grab one handful (ok, I can do it, I just don't I give into my wants) and I end up eating 500 calories worth of almonds. Even when I do pickles or pickled okra, I eat way more than I should. I am not saying that I don't want to snack. I was just simply stating how I eat. I can easily snack all day long and never eat a meal, and in turn go way over my calories. I know I need to just pack the healthy handfuls and leave the rest at home. But I struggle with this.

I take the One-A-Day women's active metabolism when I remember. I keep it in my desk at work so I'll see it. But be careful!! IT WILL MAKE YOU NAUSEOUS IF YOU TAKE IT ON AN EMPTY STOMACH. It's good for you, but it's unfortunate that it can make you feel sick.

Just Curious, But why would you go all day without snacking? I always keep a bag of almonds and cashews or a cranberry almond mix onhand just in case. If I do feel starved, I drink a bottle of water and a small hand full of almond mix, and it works great. :)

Hi everyone! I'm Samantha, I am 20 years old and a junior at West Texas A&M University. I did Weight Watchers 2 years ago and lost 30 pounds. When I moved 300 miles away from my family I gained 60 pounds and now weigh 200. I would like to get back down to the 135 lbs I weighed when I first went to college!

Hi everyone!
I'm Leah, I'm 21-years-old from CT and going into my Senior Year of college (yikes!) I've been with SP for a few months and it has been an invaluable resource for me. The mere fact of logging all of my food has made me watch what I eat! It's amazing. I just wanted to say hello and I'm looking forward to interacting with people my age group :)

I take a prenatal vitamin and love that I know i'm getting the nutrients I need... not only if I get pregnant but for my body even if i don't get pregnant. I would recommend taking some sort of multiple to anyone and everyone!

I think the Spring weather is helping me too. I have also started taking a multivitamin daily, and I think that has upped my energy as well. Do you all take vitamins?

Consistency is key. There is always more to come.

Hello! I hope everyone is enjoying their Tuesday. Spring is here! emoticon

I just measured & weighed myself after 9 months of sweat & hard work. I've lost 27lbs & 16 inches total!
I didn't think it could be done. More info on the weigh-in with pictures on my blog.

Thank you for the continued support & motivation!

Hello! New to the team, and semi-new to SP. Excited to stay motivated and make new friends who think like me. College is tough for staying healthy when friends are all about late night meals and anti-workouts. Hope everyone's weekend is off to a great start!

Hello, I'm new to this group. I've been really down on myself lately and I'm hoping to pull myself out of my funk. I've been so down I actually removed myself from another 20 somethings spark team because I figured at 27 that I was too old to be part of it. So, I'm going to turn that frown upside down and make some changes so that when I do turn thirty, I'll be happy to move on.

Hi!

I'm new to this team too. I am in grad school part time and working full time. This can be quite a struggle. I have to say the best thing to do is to not forget to pack your snacks! On the road and/or campus food is rarely a good choice. That, and I know for me my school has a beautiful campus, so I take advantage while I'm there taking long walks around campus and during class breaks. Good luck!

they say goldfish have no memory, i guess their lives are much like mine, and the little plastic castle, is a surprise every time...

What a great day! The first full day of fall, although it doesn't feel like it considering that its 80 degrees here in CT. I am working on getting back on the horse. I graduated from PA school in August, and have been transitioning to the working world via boards and licensing, etc. On top of that I have been sick with allergies for 4 weeks now, and have a cough that just won't seem to go away. All of this has served as an excuse for me not to workout, that I will only have a short time to spend sleeping in and lazing around the house, that running isn't going to help my cough, and my cough will probably hurt my running, you know, all the basic excuses you give yourself not to do what you know is best for you :)
Today, something was different, I gave myself a little bit of an attitude adjustment and hauled myself off to the gym. The run was brutal considering how cardiovascularly out of shape I am, but afterward when I was cooling down, I felt so good. I am excited to be back on the horse, and am taking it slowly, no injuries this time from doing too much too soon. I know this is a great pattern and attitude to get into before I start my new job, and I am looking forward to spin tomorrow morning!
Hope everyone is having a great first day of fall too!!!!

An Irish Prayer

May God give you...

For every storm, a rainbow,

For every tear, a smile,

For every care, a promise,

And a blessing in each trial.

For every problem life sends,

A faithful friend to share,

For every sigh, a sweet song,

And an answer for each prayer.

HAPPY THURSDAY Beautiful Ladies!!!

Well itís a Brand New Day!!! Donít let your yesterday hinder your today. If you have stumbled some, then get back up & get moving today. Letís make the best of today b/c this day will never return. I hope your eating is going great & that your exercise is going good also.

Woke up for my 5:40 a.m. exercise-strength training & the power went out mid-way thru my strength training!! I was like crap but kept on going until the T.V. station was back up, I just improvised exercises..LOL. I will hit the gym this afternoon also. Yesterday, I was able to get into a pair of pants that have been hanging in my closet for probably about a year. Today I also got into a pair of pants that I bought maybe in August & only wore then once b/c I couldnít button them anymore. So I felt soooo great to see that I have gotten back into old clothing! If thatís not motivation for me, then I donít know what is. LOLÖ I am happy to be sharing this journey will everyone on Spark & to be on this journey with all of you!

*DIVA Tip of DAY*

ďThe BEST Motivation always comes from WITHIN and no one can buy you motivation; so dig deep & think of something that inspires you!!!Ē

I'm starting over because I need my motivation to pick back up. So I went back to Fast Break and I'm reexamining the goals I have set. So we'll see how it goes.

Coby was really sick yesterday. He was burning up after his nap and then got worse tonight. Send good thoughts our way that he starts feeling better.

Meghan, I comment on people's blogs almost everyday. It's a great way to stay motivated.

I haven't been on in the past couple of days and I REALLY need to fix that. I need to get on everyday, instead of just when I'm at work. Hopefully things get better soon. I just gotta get that motivation up.

Sorry to hear you had such a bad Monday.

I had a dr appt yesterday morning. It went well. It was my first appt with her and I really liked her. And hopefully I don't get a call from her anytime this week. Other than that, I ate all three meals today, and slept most of the day until I had to get up for work.

I started a new team today! It's the Random Bloggers. So if you like to blog (anywhere, about anything) feel free to join us.

Another Monday! At the current time I'm just sitting here at work getting ready for lunch. Over the weekend I caught up on some apparently much needed rest. In addition, I also reaggrivated my shoulder (must be some sort of sprain) and ripped open the area where I had stiches a few weeks back. One would have thought after 2 weeks it would have been healed, but apparently not. So no I'm all put back together, but really cannot do any core exercises or anything that makes me strech my abdominal area. So it looks like I'm in for a week of working extremities and no swimming. Hope everyone else is getting a better start to their week!

So I got out of my five days of work. The girl I was trading with had a family emergency and couldn't work the day she was trading me. So I worked my three days and I'm enjoying the second of two days off.

I'm really trying to get my butt in to gear. But it might be an issue. Starting Thursday, I'm working five twelve-hour night shifts in a row. It's going to suck. Only two of them am I guaranteed a babysitter during the day (so I can sleep), and those are the last two days of it.

I've started dieting and started dieting again. But NOW I'M ACTUALLY DIETING!

I joined SP in 2007 and never followed up with anything, but now almost 40 lbs heavier I'm ready to make a change. Especially since I need to order my wedding dress in 9 months!! emoticon I can't wait!

Good luck to all of you with your journey!!

I bought some fitness DVDs as a treat to add to my workouts at the gym and outside. I love this weather- makes me want to move constantly!

hey Piper - I'm going to try jumping back on the wagon with you... Maybe joining a more active message board will keep me motivated.

Good to see you and "Hi" to all the new faces since I've been gone!

Hi all,

I'm definitely not new to SparkPeople or this group, but I'm back for now, hopefully for a good amount of time. I'm going to be in a life-long battle with my weight, but I'm determined to do things right from here on out. Eat healthy. Eat real food, and stop living on 100 Calorie Chex Mix and other "fake" foods.

Oh, yeah. I'm Megan, I'm from D.C. (though when I first started here, I was a law student in St. Louis), and I'm 28 (how did that happen??). Will be updating my SparkPage soon enough.

It's good to see so many people here, both faces I recognize and newbies!

ohh Hi everyone, I have finally found somewhere that sounds like the place for me. I have been looking at lots of spark teams and this is the first one that seams to click for me. I have also achived weight loss goals at spark people in the past, mainly due to having wonderful friends to motivate me and keep me going!
I hope that we can achive great things together. I was at my all time high of 207 lbs about 6 months ago, I have gone down to 183lbs. I am ready to takle the next 30 to 40 lbs that I want to loose.
I was at a party last night and saw some pictures this morning of me... That is giving me the motivation to get serious again. I cant wait to make friends with all of you!

I keep "pretending" to start the weight loss journey. After failing again and again, I'm back to Spark to conquer the fat once and for all.
