Lost 1 pound this week. Managed to stay away from a disaster because I have found it really hard to exercise and do the "little" things that have made the difference for me -- like being specific about foods and portions, getting up on time, etc.

I didn't have the nerve to weigh myself since I started but just checked and I've lost 5 pounds in the last two weeks, I know that's because I had been snacking a lot before so I don't expect to lose that every 2 weeks but very psyched and motivated. I waited until I felt my body had changed to have the nerve to weigh myself and I was surprised it was so much. I have been exercising alot too so chuffed that it's all going in the right direction!

Lost one pound, but I know that was luck, because I was over calories almost daily and was not as active as I have been. If that is a legitimate pound that was lost, then I would expect that I'll have a hard time repeating it next week. I have to be really careful, but still think the next week will be hard to get a full-pound loss. I'll keep my fingers crossed -- and increase my activities and control those darn calories.

Weigh in this week: 2.5 pounds. Sounds good, but the week before I had lost only .5 pounds, and wondered if I would be able to make my goal for September. I will. In fact, I'm 2 pounds under the goal now.

I have said this before. Losing weight is hard and doesn't really work on a weekly basis. HOWEVER, if we can manage not to become discouraged and/or lackadaisical about it, the weight will come off, and about as was planned. (It's a matter of science, really -- so many calories in and used, so many calories stored or burned.

I believe in the one pound per week challenge because it allows me to be human: eat moderately, stressing fruits and vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins with an occasional wah-hah moment; exercise regularly with no day demanding more exertion that I like.

Weigh in:
* Wednesday, April 2: 2 pound loss emoticon
***Short-term goal (another 3 pounds by Easter)
***Short-term goal (another 2 pounds by my birthday emoticon
***Short-term goal (20 pounds by September) emoticon emoticon
***Goal weight: 200

Well done to all you people who are continuing to lose that weekly pound - or more!

Sparkyflower, good luck with losing the weight with a broken arm. It will make exercise difficult but hopefully you can manage to stay on track.

For me, the scale has been up and down over the past few months. Every time I manage to lose a bit my husband arrives for a few weeks, or a friend comes to stay, or I go to visit someone. This week my two best friends and I are having a girly week. We're all meeting up in Galway and I'm looking forward it. Weight loss-wise, I'm aiming for a pound off, hoping for maintenance, and expecting a huge gain. If you know what I mean.

Hello again! It's been a while since I've posted but that doesn't mean I haven't been around. It's been very busy couple of months, moving house, exams, changes at work, bad health and so on and so forth but here I am again. And despite everything ( I mean myself and my lack of willpower at times) I am down 6 kg and astonishing 32 cm are off! I am back on track now and will do my best to drop another 10 kg for my birthday/anniversary in mid August :)

This week is a half-pound loss, but it follows a loss that was big from last week. I tend to go steadily down, then hit a bump for what seems forever, but IF I keep exercising and watching calories, the weight eventually drops down again. That's what happened last week. I'm a bit ahead of the one-pound per week goal, but it all evens out.

I'm proud of myself because I've been under a lot of pressure lately and I've still managed to move and eat reasonably and discreetly.

Where's that emoticon that shows me patting myself on my back?

Well done to everyone who continues to lose weight! You're an inspiration to me:)

I'm so glad that, on Monday, I can finally get back to my normal routine. Perhaps, then, I can get back to healthy eating and exercise. I'm hoping to be posting a small scale victory here next week.

I have had a hard time with that 1 pound per week. emoticon

I gained 2.5 pounds, and really was convinced this would be a emoticon emoticon emoticon kind of week. I had stayed on the low end of the calorie count, exercised hard, and wished that stupid pound off.

Didn't work. I will continue pushing, though, because it can't stay there forever. Especially not when it's so unwelcome. emoticon

Well done to everyone who is weighing, posting their weight and, wonder of wonders, even losing weight! Keep up the good work.

With my major blip during my couple of weeks away, I am now only two pounds lighter than when I started this challenge. With just five weeks to the end, I doubt if I'll reach my 13 lbs goal. However, there's still time to claw back some of the lost ground and, with a lot of motivation and effort, I could realistically have a total of between 7 and ten pounds off. So, possibly 3 to 7 pounds off target, but an achievement, nonetheless.

So, here goes!

Monday 5/12 - 155.5 lbs
Monday 5/19 - 152.8 lbs.
Lost 2.7lbs.

I actually have been eating more calories lately. Whatever. Go figure. Perhaps its my exercising. Still can't afford to be lazy about it yet. I'm on a vendetta as my doctor says if I don't lose weight I'll need my knees replaced, and one knee isn't in great shape- the xray was pretty scary, even to me.

Rapon, Scales Shmales! How you look and feel is telling it's own story. You're obviously toning up, gaining muscle, and slimming down, so it doesn't really matter how much weight you've actually lost. Just remember that fat off doesn't equate to muscle on because muscle weighs more than fat.

Well done for sticking at it and seeing success. Keep it up!

-Only 0.5kg/1.1b lost since last week. I'm very disappointed, I've been eating right, no chocolate eggs over Easter and I've busted my butt exercising.
+I've lost 15.5/6in, most of it off the above mentioned butt, and my waist. Also my back boobs are no longer competition to the ones on the front (sorry for tmi).
I no longer look like I've swallowed a whole watermelon and my trousers are no longer tight around the waist.
All in all not too bad if I can get over the disappointment of what the scales showed....

Doing the happy dance! I've lost 3.6lbs this week! When I weighed myself on Monday, after the over-indulgence of Easter weekend, I had gained three pounds. So, instead of panicking, I just jumped back on the wagon, tracked my meals every day, and stuck to the plan. And the result has made me ecstatic!

I think this proves my theory of Transitory Pounds. I believe that, when we gain a lot of weight over a short period of time, it won't hang around for long, so long as WE don't hang around. If we just get back up, dust ourselves off, and get back to healthy eating and exercise, those pounds will disappear a lot quicker than the ones that have taken up residence.

So, onwards and downwards. Just ten days left till I board that flight to see my new, wee grandson. I would love to lose another three pounds by then, because then I'd be breaking into the 160s, and that would feel like a great achievement. Still, I'll be happy with another two pounds off, so I'm not going to set myself up for failure. Slow and steady, etc., etc.

Rua

Rapon, well done on your weight and inch loss! That's a really good result. And a little indulgence doesn't do us any harm. It's when we give in to our naughty side every day that we end up with problems. Sunday is my day of indulgence. I know I can hold it together during the week if I can enjoy a few treats on a Sunday.

Ann, well done on the weight maintenance. Staying the same isn't an easy thing to do. For me it seems I'm either going up or down. I need to take a leaf out of your book for when I finally reach my goal:)

Soooo...first weigh in
1.5 kg (3.3 lb I think?) and a total of 5.5cm (around 2in) loss.
Could have been better but at the same time I haven't felt hungry, I've been indulging my naughty food side (the delicious crispy skin of a roast chicken thigh and a slice of cheeeeeezy pizza emoticon ), I've cut out sugar, I had more energy-and still do, I did a 10k hike yesterday and was feeling great when I finished it and my heart rate at rest has dropped from 72bpm to 68bpm in a week.

So, here we are, the day of reckoning! Back to basics for me. Today I'm 0.4 down from my last weigh-in two weeks ago, and that's better than going in the other direction!

Easter weekend is coming up, and the family is gathering at DD's. I'm hoping to keep it together for today and tomorrow, so that I can enjoy Sunday with an easy conscience. Monday might be a bit tricky, but I'm home on Monday night, so should be ok. Then, on Wednesday, I'm off to a residential course until Sunday. Eating away from home is always tricky, because of my Coeliac Disease. Often the only option is a baked potato with cheese, or worse, chips! By chips I mean what some of you might consider 'fat fries'. Not exactly on my list of low-calorie foods!

I'm going to bring lots of fruit and nuts for snacking, some light cheese triangles, plus packets of gluten-free cup soups. If I have good stuff to snack on it might give me a fighting chance at meal times.

Rua ~ I plan my daily menu mentally, then track it everyday. I found in the beginning it was a real eye opener! It surely is helpful!

Yay, Star! You're going in the right direction and that's the most important thing:) Keep it up and you really will soon begin to feel thinner. If you have any clothes that you fit into, but are just a wee bit tight, set them aside to try on in a few weeks' time. You'll be slipping into them by then and you'll feel amazing!

Ann, thanks for your words of wisdom. Having lost so much weight you are proof to us all that it can be done:)

I have today's menu planned in my head but haven't tracked it yet. I know, from experience, that's it well within my calorie range, but recording it is always the best way to stay on track. I'm off for a walk now, with DH and the dog, but I'll do my tracking as soon as I get back.

Rua, your sister was right. You make a mistake, a stop making the mistake right then. (It's so much easier for me to say that than do it. emoticon )

I did lose 1 pounds, exactly, if my scales are correct. So I was glad about that. Thing is, I didn't feel any smaller, which is normal I guess.

But I did weigh in, and I was prepared to take whatever happened. It's always nice to have made the goal, however.

A had many detours, while trying to loose weight, I cheated a lot. Yes it does make a difference in scales favour and sets our ego to the all time lows. Up or Down this week, neither stayed the same.

Star, thanks for the encouragement! It really helps:)

And don't you be worrying about this week's weigh-in. One week doesn't make a huge different in the general, life-long health plan. You'll do better next week. Life is never perfect, and ups and downs are port of life, and of weight loss. emoticon

I'm trying to implement something my sister taught me. She was overweight for her entire life, until, in her forties, she finally cracked it. She said that one thing that made a huge difference to her was ditching the 'sheep as a lamb' mentality. Previously, if she'd 'broken' her diet, she would just think, 'Well, I might as well just go for it,' and then she'd continue to eat everything in sight. But then she realised how destructive this thinking was, so she changed her attitude. If she gave in to temptation and ate fish and chips, for lunch, followed by five jam and cream doughnuts, she would just pretend it hadn't happened. Instead, she would carry on with her planned menu for the day, and that day, and the next day. She has maintained her ideal weight for fifteen years, so it obviously worked for her.

I've finally got back to healthier eating, tracking, and accountability and I've had a reasonably good day. I'm looking forward to continuing with a healthy lifestyle and finally becoming slimmer and fitter. I do notice a big difference with the weight I have lost up till now, in spite of regaining some, and this feeling is a great incentive to carry on.

Well, it looks like my scales were wrong when I started this challenge because I definitely should have gained even more weight! In fact, I'm weighing in at 2 lbs lighter, which is great. So, I'm taking this as my true weight now, and am hoping for a small difference by Friday.

I also forgot that I had started at my new, higher weight, and thought I was still going to have to add that. So, all in all, I'm very happy:) However, I am also going to count from my previous lower weight, just to see how much ground I can make up. Whatever happens, I will still be happy to be thirteen pounds lighter at the end of June.

Everything you have said is absolutely right. Posting will help, but it's really hard when you know that the report isn't going to be good.

I'm impressed with you. I am a bit worried about the weigh in this week, and your determination makes me remember that all of us can do this. We can, and really we must, because our time is more limited than we thought. emoticon

Well, I know it was my idea to have this 1lb per week challenge but please don't follow my example. I know that, since DH arrived, I have put on at least 300 lbs. Well maybe that's a bit of an exaggeration, but I definitely am piling on the pounds. We are both hoping to get back to our healthy eating plan tomorrow. Once I know where I am, I will post my weight. Then I hope to post my weekly weight, plus what I hoped to be before this major blip.

Perhaps, if I'm a very good girl, I can end up back on course by the end of the challenge. One things for sure - I'm not giving up on my long-term goal. Too many times in the past I've started, fallen, and didn't get back up again. But now I realise that glitches don't need to last for a year or more. They can be a day, a couple of days, or even a couple of weeks, but that should be the end of it.

I know that continuing to post here will get me back on track. That is the wonderful thing about my health and weight-loss efforts this time round. I've finally figured out that there's no shame in having a wobble, so long as I keep on being accountable. That's what will get me back to being happy and healthy.

Good luck everyone.

Rua

Rua, thanks for the suggestion. Haven't paid much attention to the ticker, but I could put it down for an easier goal. Nice idea.

Starbrite, welcome to the team! Actually, I think all of us who are active on this team are reasonably new to it, so you're not that far behind us.

We're all in this together so don't be shy about your weight. I do, however, understand that you might not want to declare your total. What you can do is set your ticker to a goal amount. Mine, for instance is set for 15 lbs, even though I need to lose much more than that. It's just nice to see the ticker moving fast and then, when you get that goal done, you just start again. I think that several goals of 15 lbs is a lot easier than one goal of, say, 200 lbs.

Good luck:)

Ok, thanks, Ann.

Weigh in report will be easy. How did you do toward the goal this week. I can do that. I'm in.

STARRBRITE - I am a fairly new to this team too.

I think the main object in this topic is to state if you are up, down or stayed the same, each and every week.

The objective is to make a commitment, working towards a long term goal by being committed to wee weekly challenges, a mind set to remember to weigh yourself. A reminder to yourself that….you will eventually reach your ideal goal by not giving up on yourself.

Most over weight people, feel embarrassed to say I fell of the wagon. You don't have feel that way, we all know life happens. It is best to acknowledge the mistake and try again.

If you weaken, along the way, that's okay, the main thing is shrug it off and get back working at your goals you set for yourself, when you started with Spark People.

For instance I am at goal weight but I plod along, hoping never to ever reach 200 + pounds ever again! For one thing it could be a very expensive route to give up my small clothes & a huge ego (Just kidding) . To fall into the trap by buying, bigger, bigger and bigger clothing!
I don't have enough money or closet space to hold so many different size clothing! So I'll stick to what worked for me and not alter my path . One thing I do eat sweets, drink alcohol from time to time, but don't over indulge. I know my limit and stay with in it!

I admit I have reached goal weight 3 times in the past but this is the longest I have remained at goal weight, 2 years 4 months.

I just joined the team. I have lots of Irish ancestors on both sides of my family.

I like the 1 pound per week goal. It's great. The problem is that my weight is a problem for me, because I am so big. I'll post, but I don't want to give my total weight. Is it possible to post that week date, the amout lost or gained emoticon , and my short-term and long-term goals.

I bet you're thinking I have a lot of nerve to just jump in here and ask for all these exceptions. I'm hoping, though, that you'll say OK. I'll post introduction and rest of stuff another day.

Weigh in:
* Wednesday, April 2: 2 pound loss
***Short-term goal (another 3 pounds by Easter)
***Short-term goal (another 2 pounds by my birthday
***Short-term goal (20 pounds by September)
***Goal weight: 200

So, this is the weigh-in thread for our 1 lb per week challenge. If you want to keep track of each week's results then just start with your current weight and then copy and paste it every week, so that you have a running total. I'm starting this today but my weigh-in day is actually Friday so I'll record every Friday from now on.

I'm very disheartened to record what looks like a 7 lb gain in just one week! I'm hoping that at least a few of them are transient pounds that will disappear quickly now that I'm back to healthy eating and exercise.

I really need to keep my eye on the ball from now on. I have a dress I want to wear for my choir tour so I need to be ten pounds lighter for that. There'll also be a lot of dancing and walking that week, so I need the stamina for that.

I also want the long journey to NZ to be as comfortable as possible, so being slimmer would help that. And, as it's close to 50 hours from door to door, I need the energy to deal with that.

And, finally and most importantly, I need the health, energy, strength and stamina to enjoy my little grandson. I have two and a half weeks to enjoy him so I want to make the absolute best of our time together. What better motivator do I need?
