Yoga is my favorite form of exercise. I think it is wonderful to be included along with any exercise routine and I think it is important. However, you must do the poses correctly or it could either just be a waste of time or you could injure yourself. Be sure your instructor corrects anyone who does them incorrectly. It is very important. My favorite form of yoga is Bikram--the hot yoga. In Bikram if you are even a centimeter off on your pose they will make sure it is right and concentrate more on having good form than going deep into the pose. The depth will come with time.
Anyone can give up, it's the easiest thing in the world to do. But to hold it together when everyone else would understand if you fell apart, that's true strength
I must learn to love the fool in me- the one who feels too much, talks too much, takes too many chances, wins sometimes and loses often, lacks self-control, loves and hates, hurts and gets hurt, promises and breaks promises, laughs and cries...
I just started back to yoga after a 2 year absence. I love it! It is a great stress reliever. Also, it helps me regain some flexibility, which is so important as one gets older. Also, I find that I can pursue my fitness activities much better with increased flexibility. Hope you give yoga a try. But don't judge yoga by just one class by one instructor. There are lots of types of yoga and every instructor approaches it differently. Also, it takes awhile to learn poses, so be patient with yourself. If you have a good instructor they will emphasize over and over not to "compete" with yourself or others in the class to excel at doing the postures. It is about being with your body where you are now. It took me awhile to get that concept. It is so different from what exercise instructors and classes tend to use as motivators. However, yoga was originally more of a spiritual practice to calm the mind. It is in more recent times that it has been approached as more of an exercise. Hope you give it a try!
