I seem to be motivated more in the winter when it is sunny or snowy. I have been working out as much as possible with my job but there have been many days that I have only gotten in the workout of walking up and down the halls of the school that I teach in. I really want to be successful with this lifestyle change but I think I need to find more hours in a day to be successful.

I've realized that the long (cold) days of winter are great for hitting the gym. I listen to podcast (get educated) and walk on the treadmill. My treat for getting to the gym is warming up in the steam room.

Hey Alli! Welcome to the team emoticon Oddly enough I actually enjoy exercising more in the winter! I hear some people talk about how going tanning in the winter is their warm little escape from winter where they can close their eyes and imagine its actually warm outside. For me, working out at the gym is like that. It's the only place where I can put on capris, a tank top, and tennis shoes, crank up my ipod, and get to work getting the blood pumping and sweat a little, and be anything but cold! Sure, it's not as good as being active outside most of the day like I am during the summer, but the gym in the winter is kind of enjoyable for me. It also is the only thing that helps me beat seasonal affective disorder which I get pretty severely if I don't keep up with working out. You might find that you can learn to enjoy it too.

This year is also the first year that I have tried running outside in the cold. I actually like it! I'm cold when I first start warming up, but by the time I actually get a good jog going I warm right up. I like the cold feeling on my cheeks, plus I feel totally bad a$-s running in the snow while people pass me up shivering in their warm mini vans . emoticon

Also I try to think about the upcoming summer. Right now the background on my phone is a picture of my swimsuit. Between severe body image issues and then extra weight, I have literally never once in my life been comfortable in a swim suit and I desperately want that to change this summer.

Anyway those are some of the ways I try to stay motivated. Of course this is my first winter staying consistently active, and we have a lot of Ohio weather yet to go I'm sure! But we will all do it together!

Whether you've lost 500 pounds or 5, the taste of victory is just as sweet, because it's the taste of taking back control of your own body and life!

Hi Guys,

Just wondering if any of you had the same issues staying motivated when it gets dark out so early and when it is so cold outside.

What do you do to curb those feelings and stay motivated?
