I am still pretty comfortable when I shop for clothes. I have gained weight after a couple years at my goal weight. I have about 60lbs more to lose before I get into my goal BMI and get to my goal weight. I have kept my favorite clothes since gaining some of my weight back. Those clothes are from more expensive brands and places than I typically shop at and were a "treat" for getting to my goal weight. Those clothes are Lucky, Silver and BKE jeans and bright colored and patterned shirts bought at the Buckle. No matter how much weight I lose all I really care about is fitting in those clothes again and that is my real goal.

JCPenneys has pretty beige sweaters ans some great boots on sale. I got my sweater for $20.00 and my boots were on sale for $69.99. Very nice ones too.

Cindy, Sorry about your scarves. That's heart breaking! I did check out Christopher and Banks web site. I love it. They have some really pretty things.

By Black sweater I assume you mean cardegan type sweater - If so I think I have seen some nice ones at Coldwater Creek, Christopher and Banks, and JCP - Liz Claiborne Collection.
For work I have a nice chenille wrap. I can put it around my shoulders or over my legs so it works great! If you mean sweater top then I think I have seen black sweaters at Macy's.

Unfortunately I lost all the real silk scarves that my grandmother gave me in High School. I took them in to be dry cleaned and the x1!@#$%%^&*(!!! Dry cleaner put them in a washing machine and destroyed them. I requested specifically that they be dry cleaned. They would not compensate me for their error. Now I do not buy real silk just the polyester silk or acrylic scarves!

Good luck on the boots. I just can not afford to pay the $200+ most stores want for boots. I have wide feet and require orthotics so I can not buy cheap shoes or boots. boo hoo!!!!

Still looking for that classic beige or cream sweater!! also looking for a nice black sweater to leave at work. I have a great collection of scarves. I was also lucky to have been given 2 great ralph lauren blazers that fit like a glove one navy and one black. So now I am on the hunt for a nice pair of boots and shoes!!

I am getting close to my new normal size so I am starting to invest some money in nice work outfits that make me feel stylish and self confident. I only have about 20 pounds to reach a normal BMI.

PSCARPA, Great job on your Sally Ann Specials! I am finding that I buy a few good pieces and then add inexpensive jewelry and shirts and even jeans to make my outfits. The strategic pieces of clothing elevate everything else I wear!. Sounds like you now have some key strategic pieces of clothing for this fall's wardrobe! A good raincoat is definately worth the cost of annual dry clean bill! Did you find any accessories to go with your new outfits?

I just had to share!!! Went to the local Salvation Army store on Tuesday and got myself four pairs of work pants all size 12 and a nice long Ann Klein rain coat for 25 dollars!!! The pants are liz clairborne, dress barn, apt 9 and from macy's!! I was so excited!!! It cost me more to clean the coat!! I just don't want to spend my money on clothes!!! I used to spend $50.00 on one pair of pants!!

Twin Cindy, I don't have that store near me. My husband doesn't get much time off from work but keep me posted or send me all of the details on the Las Vegas meeting and I'll see what we can do. I would love to come!

I always said we were like twins LilAngels! Do you have a Christipher and Banks near you? If so check it out, that is where I got some of the beatnik biker girl outfit! I wish you could come to our NW Weight Loss Conference in Portland Oregon next month!

Maybe you can come to the Las Vegas Mother Of All Meet and Greets next May. WLSFA (weight loss surgery foundation of America) puts it on. They raise money for people who medically need weight loss surgery but who can not afford it or do not have insurance.
It is a good organization. I am planning to go to it!

I have gone from size 20/22 to size 10 and I had a ball buying summer clothes. This morning it is 46 here (the coldest we've had). I have got to go shopping for winter clothes now. I use pretty belts, scarfs, and fancy jewelry to accessorize. I am getting lots of compliments and it feels great. I am a shoe person. My shoe size has changed too. I hope I get to go today boot shopping. They will fit on my calves now. Isn't this fun??? Loving it. I also love Kohls, Marshalls, TJ Maxx and I love Penneys and love that they always have coupons. I always check out the clearance racks and have gotten a lot of nice jewelry that way. I also am having a few items altered and am taking things to sell at a consignment shop.

Has anyone bought any accessories that will last you through all the changes in clothing sizes?

This summer/fall I have bought a couple of items that I know I will keep and use even if my clothing size changes.

I have used scarves over the years but that has been the extent my accessories in recent years.

That has changed since surgery. I invested in a couple of hats! Yes, I am learning to wear accessories that call attention to me! Fun pieces that make me feel good.

I also invested in a couple of fun necklaces ($35 range) that will work with lots of outfits and will last for a long time. They are drawing attention to my face and people are always complimenting me on my new style!

I bought the first belts that I have owned in probably 20 years! I have worn them a few times now. I am still not completely comfortable but it is getting easier to wear them! (Brendalee, I fogot I also have a silver shimmery belt for the biker girl outfit!).

Have any of you found accessories to be a fun experience for you after surgery? What are they and how do you feel in them?

Jen, look up cookie lee jewelry online. They have good quality and reasonably priced jewelry. Many women at work wear it. I am getting lots of compliments on both my jewelry and my clothes. I like looking put together now! Plus no matter how much weight I loose it will not matter to the jewelry as it truly is one size fits all!

Oh my gosh I have such a shopping problem!!!! I've gone from a 26/28 pre surgery to a 18/20 today. I've already gone through a lot of clothes. I bought myself two pairs of work pants size 22 and they are already too big :( I bought some more clothes for work but went down a size so I can "grow" in to them. I found a girl at work that is the same size I was before work and she has been just tickled getting bags of clothes from me :) It is kind of weird to see someone wearing your clothes but it makes me feel good that she's getting use out of them.

I've been waiting for sales and using coupons as much as possible. I'm with you Cindy, the observations and compliments are just soooooo nice. I have definitely started focusing more on my appearance, doing my hair, make up, whitening my teeth and taking good care of my skin.

I am 8 weeks out too! I haven't started shopping for new clothes. I am going to have my clothes altered before I splurge. I have always hated shopping and I am not looking forward to having to try things on to see what size I am now. All my pants are too big. I use a belt but the legs are starting to look like M.C. /hammer pants, lol.

I don't need to shop, but I always like to pick some favorite pieces in the Fall and in the Spring. I also want to get to the fabric store to make a few skirts. I need to weed out some clothes for Goodwill too.

My BMI has gone from a 47 last october to a 30 last month!! But I was always very fashionable!! I loved to shop no matter what size I was wearing. I have given most of my clothes away and some of my good stuff I brought to consignmet. I have always been a fan of Marshall's, TJ Maxx and Macy's. I love a good bargain. Latley I have been going to the second hand shops and consignment shops. Today I am wearing a cordury skirt, tights and bright scarf!!! Getting compliments from everybody!!!

Patty

I still have a ways to go to. But I love shopping for clothes now. My family could hardly get me in a store before and I ordered most of my clothes online. I actually went shopping today for a dress for a wedding and found myself getting a dress and jewelry that I probably wouldn't have considered before. I wanted to get something sexy but actually put the dress back yesterday and went back and got it today. I am shopping at regular size clothes stores too. I have to stop myself from going to the large sizes. I have gotten rid of all my other clothes so now am beginning to get warmer clothes as it gets colder. I am a TJ Maxx, Marshalls and the new place I like is Nordstrom Rack.

Instead of giving myself reasons why I can't, I give myself reasons why I can.

I am out from surgery 1 year and am 22 pounds away from a normal BMI! I am finding that I have become more fashion conscious as my weight has come down. This year I had to buy all new or new to me clothes for this fall and winter. People are noticing and complimenting me on my outfits for the first time that I can remember. They are telling me that my outfits and jewelry are fun and festive and that I look great. This has been an esteem building time for me.
I am now shopping in Misses section of department stores like Penneys and Kohls and my new favorite clothing shop is now Christopher and Banks.

What are your clothing and appearance experiences this fall? How far away from Normal BMI or from your goal weight are you? Are you dressing for the new slimmer you or are you still trying to hide in baggy clothes and the clothing choices of your life before RNY? What are your new favorite clothing stores?
