Great to be back home. Gained about a half pound from 3 week vacation. Cutting back this week on carbs and fruit--so much fresh fruit available on the cruise but do better with more veggies and less fruit.

Let's see. As always these are questions you should discuss with your medical team. Your dietician knows you and your particular needs.

1) Your body cannot produce protein. But your body can produce energy (carbs/fat) from the protein to meet most of those needs. Since you have a tiny pouch especially in the first year or two you need to focus on getting your protein in. So for your salad (when you are at that stage) eat a little bit of the salad and lots of chicken strips(marinate the meat and cook in moist manner so that you will be able to swallow it). Your dietician can help you with how to plan your food.

2) gulping water gets too much air in pouch! Same thing with using a straw you get too much air in pouch and intestines which can be uncomfortable. How we get in our water. small sips and keep the water bottle with you at all times. Pour a large glass or bottle of water then sip away do not wait 15 minutes for another oz of water. Again your dietician can help you figure out a way to get your water in.

Cindy,

Hope you are able to resolve the issues with your hip. It is hard when you can not get around.

We are now past the halfway mark of our cruise; at Kodiak today. I have enjoyed so seeing the sites of Alaska and learning the geography and history. We are at Kodiak today. Yesterday was poignant for me as we were at Homer--my dh name.

Hi everyone!! I hope Cindy that you have your hip repaired or replaced - whatever is needed. To have all that pain day in and day out must be overwhelming. To say nothing what it does for your emotional eating!! I know you are not going to be on the computer but I want you to know I am praying for you! emoticon

emoticon hi everyone ....

emoticon welcome home Cindy, smiles sorry about the pain in your knee and hip... poor baby, sincerely I feel for you and hope they can resolve the problem soon (((( hugs )))) ... emoticon

emoticon hi Carol, high five on carpet cleaning... wow.... I soooooooooo admire you for real. those rental machines are sooooo heavy to lift into the car ... I chipped my car paint lifting that heavy thing... lol.... again congrats on the carpet cleaning... I am kinda jealous lol :)

QUESTIONS: emoticon

1. Clarification needed please =
emoticon emoticon Why is it important to consume protein first and how does one do that when they get to a stage of consuming foods.
For example: I loveeeeeeeeeeeeee frozen vegetables and chicken strips or a salad with frozen chicken strips that I heat up and place on my salad..... so are they (the people who make the rules) saying that I should chew my chicken first and then take a bite of the salad?
Currently I am still on liquids.... drinking my protein in protein shakes at 30 grams of protein per 8 oz.
** I know that protein helps build muscle and when one loses weight, muscle may be the first thing to go.

2. I sooooooooo miss gulping large amounts of water emoticon emoticon and when I mistakenly DO that, the pain in my lil tummy is very, very painful as it is only a small size now..... so my question is HOW do you all consume your water when you are really, really thirsty or feel the need for a lot of water? I know we are to refrain from drinking from straws to avoid air pockets...... so are we to continue to sip on water of 1 ounce at a time in a 15 min duration? how is that small amount going to quench our immediate thirst level? I am confused.

emoticon will I no longer be allowed to drink large amts of water at a time for the rest of my life ? emoticon

Sorry to be absent for a couple of weeks. I have been in extreme pain with my leg buckling when I walk. I had to use a wheelchair to get to the plane for my trip to Charlotte NC.
The pain limited what I could do. I saw an orthopedic doctor on Thursday to check on my 17 year old hip replacement. We are running tests but it looks like my hip replacement may have failed. I have a special test on this Thursday to check the plastic lining of the hip replacement. That is what the doctor believes failed (rubbed away the plastic). So I will probably not be online much this week as it is difficult to sit at a computer.

Sunshine - congrats on surgery

Alice - write down everything you ate and what caused the stress. It helps later on to know how you are now reacting to food and stress. I am an emotional/stress eater myself and what helped me was to find a good counselor to help me learn new ways to handle stress. I have been seeing my counselor now for 2 years and am handling things much better now!
SmilingEyes - I hope you continue to enjoy the cruise. When you take off from
SeaTac you will fly over my apartment!

emoticon wanna hear something funny emoticon

Tonight as I was watching Television, a show called: Worlds Dummiest Criminals" and they show this woman walking into a dollar store, picks out 11 items and proceeds to walk out the door but didn't realize that an employee had locked the entrance door in anticipation of the closing of the store in a few minutes.... so she could not get out, she gave the basket of items back and they let her leave the store .....

and the narrator says: "The dollar store, when Wal-Mart is just too fancy!"

lmao (laughing my ass off) that was sooooooooooooo funny to me.

Congratulations on your surgery! I found at home that powerade zero and pedialyte frozen pops were good (and still are) for getting in fluids and electrolytes-especially for those first few weeks after surgery. Sip, sip, sip or crunch, crunch, crunch. Frozen pedialyte pops are crunchy great for fluids and the needed electrolytes.

Arrived in Seattle Friday afternoon. At Denver airport had late breakfast. We are at a fun restaurant. I ordered the seasoned cauliflower and stuffed dates as an appetizer for the five of us to share. After dinner our group explored, on foot, the area around our hotel. Went to room early to get legs up and to rest. Lots of plans for today and Sunday we depart on our cruise.

One thing I learned recently as I took on eating a pound of veggies per day....

is that when I do that.... there is noooooooooooooooo waiting to go to the bathroom, you HAVE TO get there quickly.... before accidents happen... seriously. LOL.

I was driving the other day and literally had to make an emergency stop to use the ladies room in a gas station... thank goodness I wasn't on the highway LOL

Well, I was off work the last two days for Grand Jury duty yesterday morning. Back to work today-going in at 7pm for a 12 hour shift.
My last Friday of Grand Jury will be August 15th. Until then I am off every Thursday and Friday for it. Just don't like going downtown.
Going to it is OK-it is the getting home in the late afternoon that is the worst.

Now that it is summer how is everyone doing with drinking water? Have you upped your water intake? I am upping mine as it helps to cool my body down. Wet clothes also help as I do not have an air conditioner.

Carol - Great checkup! Keep it going.

chynna, you need to work with your medical team to determine which vitamins and supplements you need to be taking. I have a naturopath who helps me but the dietician can probably help you too. When did you last have your bloodwork vitamin and nutrient levels checked? If recently then bring the results with you or email them to your provider and discuss what type of vitamins you need. Then go to a supplement store or ask your provider to recommend a brand. vitamins and supplements are different for each of us. You have special needs with a young child to keep up with too. Once you know what you need then you could also do a little online research.

Hi everyone emoticon . I am checking in. I have been so busy since the birth of my son. He is now 7 months old and I am doing great with maintaining my weight since giving birth....Cons....I'm not taking my vitamins, iron or calcium.... and I know this is going to affect me soon. I am trying to pick out a brand so any suggestions would be great.

Also I just want to take the time to say thanks for all the support this team has given me. Happy Fourth everyone!!!!!

Making it happen 1 pound at a time.

Never give up no matter how hard it gets.

Just back from back dr. I finally said the pain is too bad to sleep and so I gave in and made the appointment. She is taking another look at the vertiba in the neck area and says that I am rotator cuff problems in the arm. So prednisone for 6 days as my anti inflammatories are not working on it. Yes I know we are not supposed to take NSAIDS but sometimes you just have to use them. We take precautions and I use one the is enteric coated and also a topical version of one. NSAID.

I hope I am back to normal in a couple of weeks!

Being on a grand jury sounds interesting! Altho the computer likes my name so I get summoned alot, I've never been picked for a jury.

Re gray hair: It's a HUGE funny topic for me. When I was recognized at my job for 15 yrs of service, we had pics. As people exclaimed over my 'oldies', I realized that my co-workers and friends fall into 2 groups: those who knew me with med brown hair and those who know me as a blonde. emoticon Both say they can't IMAGINE me with the other color emoticon I don't know why but this always cracks me up!

Over the years, my brown hair got blonde highlights that increased as those silver strands appeared. Unintentionally, I was one of the first ones to have the style of blonde on top and brown underneath (lowlights?) just cuz I was too lazy to color my whole head emoticon

Oh yeah, I've been highlighting my own hair for years! After I watched the stylist do it a few times, I figured I could try it. emoticon I LOVE doing it myself- satisfies my inner control freak emoticon and saves $$$

My constant refrain to my kids, friends and family: 'You will NEVER see me with gray hair, even tho you give it to me!' emoticon

Will be spending 4th with DH's family. Need to figure out food solution as they are junk food junkies.... emoticon

Well, at least I am off from Grand Jury this Friday as it is a holiday and it is closed. emoticon

But, next Friday it is back to going there as usual. August 15th will be the last Friday of Grand Jury.

I say gray hairs-but I have a couple of white hairs here and there. Not too much and it blends in mostly with my blonde hair.

Well, I have an appointment with my surgeon for a check up this Thursday and then it is upstairs for the usual bloodwork.

I too am diabetic pay attention to the foods that your body is not liking. Try a log of foods eaten and if missy pouch is happy afterward.
It is a long process to learn what will work for you. Re-try foods every couple of months as missy pouch matures she changes what she likes.

I now have an even mix of gray and brown hair. The hairdresser likes the color. I would color it if I could afford it.

I have come in late to hear about Grand Jury business. I am glad it went well. The support here is great! If I eat too fast I burp and/or vomit. If I eat greasy foods, breads and sometimes meat I will vomit. I am diabetic so I end up messing with my blood sugars. But I am really glad I had the surgery (gastric sleeve) I am hoping to have the RNY this winter I suppose I will have the same problems. It is good to know some of the problems others have. By the way, I don't have to worry about gray hair, mine is mostly white. lol

Well tomorrow is the big day. Grand Jury duty-to be picked or not to be picked, that is the question. Am taking with me into the place my water, bagged lunch, my glucometer-in case my sugar drops (it has been doing that every so often) and bringing my Kindle.
It starts at 9am -hubby is dropping me off there at 08:15 so I can get through security, etc. giving time for the crowd.

I am number 41-so, it should not take all day-but do not know how long it will take. I called up the cab company to find out how much it will cost from there to my place- it is 13.00. So, I will call them just as soon as I am finished.

Fun, fun, fun. If they do pick me I will have to be there every Friday for the next 2 months-hope they don't as I hate going downtown here. And it messes with my work schedule.

I took 6 wks off after my RNY. I thought I'd only need 2, but really glad I had 6 wks totally off cuz it took ~8 wks to feel pretty 'normal'. During that time, I would have a day where I had bursting energy, would overdo it and pay for it for the next 3 days by being wiped out.

I've only had dumping from overeating sugary, carb foods, but on the day of my hospital discharge I 'drank' my pain med way too fast and had a horrible bout of throwing up that wiped me out and kept me there for another 6 hours.

hi there...I hope I did this right. I am new and I have a question, well actually 2.

#1- how long did it take after you surgery before you had any stamina?

#2- has anyone had any "Dummping" from Rx medication?

Thanks for your help!

Well, our new medical insurance at the hospital is a "trip".

While I am not on diabetic meds I do check my blood sugar. I find that it drops at work while I am running around and so I found that I do need new strips. I already have an Accuchek Aviva machine. Accuchek sent me a new machine-a free Accuchek Nano. So, I need to get the new strips anyway. Last year my medical insurance at my hospital covered my Accuchek Aviva accessories-it was on their list to do so.
Just found out that this new insurance-it is not on the preferred list-none of the Accuchek machines are. They told me that my Primary would need to send in a request to get my Accuchek machine's strips, etc on it so they would cover it. They tried to get me another machine. I don't want another one. I just got the new Accuchek Nano and my Accuchek Aviva machine is my backup one. Last time I got strips was October of last year and some are still good and I can use until I get new ones-but that is my Aviva machine. I have none for the Accuchek Nano.
So, my Primary has sent the necessary request and they told me it will take a few days before we know anything.

It sucks.

While a broken toe may sound like a 'little' thing to people, when it's YOU, it rocks your world! A short time back, I dropped a full glass Snapple in the middle of the bone on a middle toe. I didn't get it x-rayed, but from the vivid blue bruise, gigantic swelling and searing pain, I'm sure it was broken.

Glad you are doing better. I think it has been a week or two since I checked in. Life is very hectic. Last week I tripped and fell. I broke my little toe on tuesday (you need it for balance!). emoticon Wednesday I went to a training class but had to leave 2 hours early to get my toe x-rayed. On the way to the doctor my car's EGR Line broke and car is now loud and running poorly. emoticon Wednesday evening I lost my balance again and scraped up the other leg and arm. Boo Hoo!!!!! emoticon Thursday I left training early to go back to the doctor (Wed all ortho's had gone home so noone to confirm what they wanted on toe). At acupuncture that evening they even put a needle in the broken toe to help with healing. Friday was calmer but I discovered that the section that I most wanted from my training class was the section covered when I was at the doctor. emoticon
Foot really bothered me over the weekend so I stayed home. I am not supposed to go back to water aerobics until the bone is healed. I may try to locate my exercise noodle and go back using that so that I do not stand on the broken foot.
Yesterday morning my car developed a flat tire while I was driving. Insurance auto rescue came and put on my spare. I bought a new tire last night.

The final topper to a really bad couple of weeks is that I gained a couple of new pounds from not doing my exercise. I am not sure I can even ride my exercise bike. I am not supposed to do anything that might would cause the toes to flex. Break is all the way through but bones are in place so I will go in to get a new x-ray in two weeks.

I hope everyone else is having a much brighter time this June.
All of this is why I have not been online much recently. I am still struggling with the new computer and windows 8.1.

Next week my cousins arrive so I know I will be offline and enjoying their visit plus my exhaust system leak is being repaired by my brother.

Carol, you are such an encouragement to see the weight can come off and stay off. This journey is not just about the weight. The other blessings such as being more flexible, string, energized is very important. Having other health issues under control such as diabetes is priceless. Best wishes always. I hope everyone is having a good Wednesday. Hubby and I are off work tonight.
Relaxing-raining out. So much fun.

Well, although I have not been on my diabetic meds since 12/17/2014 since my Gastric Bypass Surgery. I find that I check my sugar as it has been dropping at work. It dropped to 58 last night-due to all the running around. Felt dizzy and it was either needing to sip more or my blood sugar-sugar was 58-so that solved that. I ate a little something and that cured that for the moment-need to keep an eye out.

Not sure it could be a celebration but plan to do some pics this weekend. I plan to blog about this. I purchased several outfits when I went from 2/3 X to size 16. Some of those are loose but will probably wait until I am down to a 12 to clothes shop. In so many ways, it seems like every day has been special since we moved. I have done so much with family. The house feels like home to me; we are so blessed. This summer, we are taking a 14 day cruise to Alaska.

Today, I was down over 100 pounds of which 40 was before surgery and 60 was since December 2, 2013. That benchmark seemed impossible. So glad to be getting closer to my goal. So thankful for this tool to better health.

My niece posted a pic of Mother's Day celebration on FB. I did not recognize me in the pic. It is strange how self image is so slow to change.

Wow, been a few days since I last checked in.....
I finished my Grad School class this week....feels good & I have the summer off from taking classes-yeah!
My daughter was confirmed at church today. It was a crazy busy & wonderful weekend. My husbands sister flew in on Fri & helped with cooking food & cleaning Sat & Sun which was super!
My daughter became very emotional during her readings in church which was both hard & wonderful to watch at the same time. Hard, because as her mommy I wanted to go up & comfort her (but not embarrass her). Wonderful, because she only shows that much emotion when she is very passionate about the topic.

working to keep on track. yesterday was my nieces 1st BDay party. I learned at the last family party that I can't be in the room when cake/ice cream are served....it makes me feel too sad. So yesterday I went to my 3yr old nephews room & played trains with him (he can't eat cake/ice cream either-only difference is he never has).

Back to work tonight after being off on vacation for two weeks. Yesterday, was the only day we had with sun and we went for a nice drive along a lake a couple of hours from here. I posted a couple pictures on my blog. At least we had one nice day. Now it is back to work.
Now to get back into our work routine again.

Also miss many features on team pages. Hope some are restored.

Arrived safely in Missouri. The washer and dryer as well as the refrigerator are to be delivered today. The last few weeks have been exhausting. Had one day on the road where I consumed junk food but have refocused my energy and following my plan

We are in the last 2 weeks of the spring session for the early childhood classes that I teach. So excited to be wrapping up the year.
Busy at home trying to get the house ready for my daughters confirmation (3 weeks-yikes!).
Trying to remember to track what I actually eat & being honest about the efforts I put into exercise.
It is raining here again today & is expected to rain for the whole week- highs only in the 40's so cold & miserable :(
