How are y'all doing?

Had my first appointment for the 90 day program, will be 4 appointments total. The dietitian has me starting back on a multivitamin (I ran out and forgot to restock) and 1 shake a day. So I bought Bariatric Advantage banana and iced latte.

I agree that making sure you are committed is a good thing.

Enjoyed the support group, had people ask questions that I've learned from. Was nice.

Yesterday heard from the surgery coordinator, my insurance apparently requires me to go through a 90 day program with the dietitian. Would have been nice to have know that 30 days ago, then we might have still managed a December date for the surgery. Oh well, this will work as well. Just means I will have more out of pocket costs. Any of you have to go through a 90 day program?

That pumpkin pie shake by Inspire that was mentioned? I'm going to go ahead and order it and see how it tastes. They have a melon one that I really want to try too, if I like the pumpkin one.

Glad no blockages! Praying for your son.

I go to my first support group today. It's 1 1/2 hours long! taking my manual and a notebook to take notes in.

I tried the banana Bariatric Advantage shake for breakfast this morning. Yum! Tastes like banana popsicles or slightly like banana laffy taffy. I'm definitely getting this one when I order!

SMILINGEYES2, I'm also glad to hear you are doing better!!

I have an appointment tomorrow to see about these aches and pains and sinus infection. I have Vocal Chord Dysfunction and it gives me a terrible cough and apparently sinus infections make it worse.

I've also been making sure that everything is in place for my surgery, so I have everything taken care of before mid-November, when my sleep apnea test is. Called and made sure it was the same kind of sleep apnea test needed for the surgery. I can't wait!

Luann, I love the outfit and you look great! That pumpkin pie shake sounds amazing. I love pumpkin pie!

Smilingeyes2, I totally agree, the payoff in health is priceless.

I've been in pain the last two days and have not been able to sleep much. Going to have to go to the doctor on Monday to figure out what this pain is.

Had a rough week with sore hip and a flare up of diverticulitis, but still managed to walk every day, track my food and have a small loss (.6 lbs.). I will take it. Also took a pic of my fav fall outfit with me in it. Size 16 pants and Large top. Far cry from size 34.5 of 5 years ago.

My NUT told me to use CarbAdvantedge available at Wal-Mart. It has a low carb count. I always buy dark chocolate and it is ready to drink. For powder, I use Inspire products from Bariatric Eating (www.bariatriceating.com). It is a superior product and comes in multiple flavors. Pumpkin Pie, Peanut Butter Cookie and Chocolate Covered Cherry are my 3 favs. I have always mixed those with unsweetened almond milk or for an awesome latte, with coffee.

I hadn't thought of taking the calcium an hour later, that is a good idea.

I passed my psych eval! I have to get a letter of support from my therapist, but I passed!. The psychologist only had a few questions to ask about the test I took, which were easy enough to clarify what I meant on them. Yay!

I picked up a sampler of the Bariatric Advantage shakes yesterday, so I can figure out which ones I like enough to drink for a week or two. My kids are helping me decide, lol. So yesterday they chose cookies and cream shake to try (of course, hehe). It was very sweet and might go good with almond milk in it, but I used water. Can you use almond milk in the drinks right after surgery? The unsweetened kind? And also, what is your favorite flavor shake? It might seem boring, but I generally just go with chocolate, hard to mess that up.

@SMILINGEYES2 I never thought of that! I'm always overthinking things on tests, so it was a little overwhelming--I've never taken one before (or since)! : )
@CROUCHINGFLEA I hope you get that house! That's so exciting! You're going to have a big year coming up! I usually take my vitamins with meals, and the calcium at least an hour after the vitamins, because I was told it would absorb some of the vitamins otherwise. Also, my doctor told me to use Citracal instead of Caltrate, because it's absorbed better. I don't know if that's common, just letting you know what I was told.

That is awesome, that you have it planned out. I'm sorry to hear about all the difficulties you went through. It is hard not to eat when you have so much going on like thatt.

I agree the psych test was confusing, they did reword the same questions different ways. It got confusing and I think I did overthink it. My interview is tomorrow and I'm so nervous !

I'm trying out the chewable vitamins samples that I was given now, it is interesting trying to take them on time and not too close together. How do you guys manage to take all your vitamins on time?

House hunting is going better, one house that we absolutely fell in love with came down a lot, and so we are going after it.

I'm down 47 pounds from where I was in May, and plan to lose another 62 to get down to 200 (that was my lowest after surgery). I might go farther, but that's my long range goal for now. I'm on track to get there by May of next year. I gained a bunch back over the past few years after my mom died, I lost my house, moving a few times, and went through a few other things. I reverted back to food to deal with it all. Looking back, I think I should have gone for therapy to learn how to deal with stress in other ways.

The psych test was kind of confusing--I mean, they ask you the same questions in different ways, and if you overthink it (which I do all the time), it can trip you up. Even so, she only asked me about 2 questions, that were the same only worded differently, but she could tell that I didn't read one of them right, so it all worked out. I'm sure you'll do fine! : )

Good luck with the house hunting--that is stressful, but fun! : )

The psychologist used a battery of tests and questionnaires as well as an interview. On the tests you can not overthink what is the right answer but answe truthfully. These can help target possible pitfalls to success that can be dealt with in a tumely manner.

Katie520, if you don't mind my asking, how much closer are you to your goal?

Did the psychological test last night and have the interview Thursday. Today is my one day off this week. Not really off though, we go house hunting this afternoon. So tired of house hunting, lol. But we want to find just the right house.

I'm nervous about the psychological interview, but no sense in that, let tomorrow worry about itself.

I'm sure you're excited! I was too! : ) FYI, I've also got sleep apnea, and I don't think that should be anything to worry about. If you test positive, they'll just schedule you to get a machine set up for you, and I'm sure the hospital is set up to accommodate whatever you may need. No worries--things will be okay. : )

My sleep apnea test isn't till 17 Nov, so I am worried about the timeline there... but hopefully things will go smoothly enough for me to still do the surgery in December!

And thank y'all for the support, I really appreciate it!

Congratulations on getting approved for surgery! : ) It's a great tool--even 15 years out I appreciate it. I'm not sure if you want even more information, but when I was researching it, I found a lot of information on obesityhelp.com. I'm sure there are even more sites now, just thought it might be helpful. Hope you get to have it before the end of the year! : )

Thank you for the info! I'm nervous, but positive that this is what I need to do. The surgeon for my hernia won't touch it till I've lost weight and he is the one that sent me the referral to get the gastric bypass done. I probably won't get all of my preliminary stuff done till the end of November. I'm just praying I'll get in for the surgery in December so that my insurance will pay more of it!

Yeah for approval! As far as small sips, your new pouch takes dsre of that. You just cannot gulp water. I still, 5 years out, don't tske big gulps. Not using a straw helps too.

Can not recall drinking sips was an issue so have no suggestions there.

Thanks y'all! I like the idea of seasonal shakes, especially pumpkin, I'm going to miss pumpkin spice lattes!!

I finally had my appointment Friday and I'm approved! I was given a manual and a ton of homework and list of appointments to complete before we can schedule the actual surgery. I got all the paperwork done that I could without appointments this weekend and have read through my manual, lol! I'm excited and hope and pray I can manage to get it done this year (so insurance will cover more) emoticon I have all the appointments scheduled too. Yay!

How did you learn how to take smaller sips of water? I actually think that is going to be one of the hardest things for me. I like water and usually take big gulps of it.

Prior to surgery did all liquid so liver was shrunk to lessen risks of it being injured with laparoscopic procedures. Following surgery still all liquid a couple weeks with adding soft foods such as Greek yogurt. Foods gradually added so any issues could be identified. Still keep protein shakes around for extra protein. I liked premier with 30 grams or GNC lite which comes in flavors and even adds seasonal ones such as pumpkin.

My bariatric surgeon recommended a protein supplement at first because you need to get protein. She gave me a list and I used EAS Advantedge because it was pretty tasty and already mixed. I still use it occasionally and I also use Inspire Protein powders from www.bariatriceating.com When I had my surgery, I did not have a full liquid diet post op, I came home on soft foods, just 1 oz as a serving. Your surgeon should have you meet with a nutritionist to educate you before surgery.

Thank you guys! I've been doing a lot of research on the different surgeries and it does seem to be the most successful ones. I also read it was one of the safest if you stick to the food program.

Question: Do you have to drink shakes after the surgery?

Had bypass and it has been my best decision. Was having knee and hip pain before but have done well since losing weight. Good to ask question. Your medical team should cover many of your concerns but we are here for you.

Hi Karri. I had Gastric Bypass 5 years ago and it was the best decision of my life. I have gone from 374 to 182 and am 8 lbs from goal. I am healthy, active and happier than a rooster in a hen house. My surgery was easy with no complications and none since. Any questions you have, feel free yo ask me or email through Spark. I am so glad you joined our team.

Hi! New to team, I was told it was a medical necessity for me to have weight loss surgery and from what I've researched gastric bypass is the way for me to go, unless the doctor thinks something else would work better. My appointment is next Friday and I wish it was sooner, I have so many questions!

No greater love hatch a mother than she plays miniature golf course in 100+ temp. The course went up four floors but you climbed and played a hike then might go down and play a couple and go up further to another hole.

Found the best substitute for rice in dishes-- the riced cauliflower in frozen or produce session. Used one that had bits of broccoli and carrots in a chicken casserole for game night. Deliscious.

Son released after his second week. They drained several thousand cc from around lungs. He had outpatient surgery more since but seems to be doing well.

I need to get back on track with eating. Prednisone is my kryptonite as I turn into PAC Woman. It does ease breathing but do not like this side effect.

Son has been back in the hospital for another week. Had pneumonia earlier in February and was in for a week ( he had both pneumonia vaccines last fall. Never improved at home. Breathing deteriorated. Back last Friday. Has had fluid drained from chest twice. No longer on oxygen. Talking to cardiac surgeon today regarding options to help prevent a relapse.
