I don't know if this is where I'm suppose to go or not, but I'm planning on having the RNY surgery in Sept or Oct of this year. I've been on a team for Gastric Sleeve Surgery, but now I'm not doing that.

Hopefully, I'll find a home and friends here.

Take Care,
Dee

With Christ's love to all,

Dee

Goals for 2015:
This year my goal is to have Gastric Sleeve Surgery. It's the best and last thing I intend to try. I'm sorry for trying and never losing more than 10 pounds that I always gain back.

This has been a blessed week for me! I saw my Oncologist Monday afternoon and she said all reports say I am still cancer free 2 years and 4 months counting. I do not have t see her again For 6 months. I saw my primary care doctor today for my annual physical and almost everything is great. I do have issues with Ferritin and iron levels being very low but the good news is, I am not anemic! She said to continue eating the healthy way I have been and jeep up the water aroebics 3 times a week. Since I lost all this weight, I have a noticeable lump on the upper part of my back on the right side. My oncologist sent me for an X-Ray today. My doctor advised me after this test came back and her physical examination, stated that I obviously was born with Scoliosis and now that I have lost the weight you can really see it. I told her all my life my Mother and others have nagged me about standing up straight and not bending over. With the severe Osteoarthritis and Osteoporosis that I have, I thought that was the reason I have such a hard time making myself stand up tall and straight. She said that continuing with my exercising will help strengthen my abdominal and back muscles and may even help slow the process of the Scoliosis. I feel very blessed to feel so good and to be exercising again! I pray all of you have a very blessed weekend! Reading the posts on here makes me feel connected to others who have gone through similar things and are becoming overcomers too!

Hi Everyone! I am back on SparkPeople now that I have all my surgeries behind me! I am back to charting all my food that I eat because for the last few months my Feritin and Iron levels have been extremely low along with Vit. B-12, and Vit. D. I take all my vitamins that my doctor asks me to take along with extra iron tablets, Vitamin D and C and I take a Vit B-12 injection monthly, I feel very good and I was released by my surgeon to start water aroebics last week. The classes last an hour and are 3 times a week. I go to my primary doctor tomorrow for my annual physical and blood tests. I saw my oncologist last Monday and had tons of blood work. She said I am still cancer free! Yeah!! I had the double Masectomy on January 9, 2013 which was only 5 months after having my gastric bypass surgery on August 4, 2012. I have come along way since my weight loss journey has begun and I lost almost all my weight the first year. I lost about 12 more pounds after having the hanging skin removed from my arms, abdomen and thighs. I had my thigh lift on March 23rd this year. I set my personal goal of 145 pounds and that is just 10 pounds to go. I am writing everything down to make sure I am getting all my protein in. I still have to drink a protein shake daily because I cannot eat very big portions at all. I have never experienced constipation after my surgery. I had my gall bladder removed in 2010 and after the weight loss surgery, I began to have major problems with diahhrea. It has become more normal now but if I eat anything with too much fat, the diahhrea returns. I am thankful that I am very regular 2 sometimes 3 times a day. I am going to start checking in every day and read your posts. I find it very helpful and motivating. I really missed being on here but for the last two years I have been in a battle for my life and I found it difficult to get on the Internet much. Now that I am doing well, it will be nice to make friends on here again! My choice to have gastric bypass surgery is the best decision I have ever done. I no longer have to be on oxygen at all, no heart problems, no high blood pressure and no more severe obstructive sleep apnea! That is the greatest part. Dropping from a size 24 to a size 8 are the added benefits! I turned 64 on May 2nd and people tell me I look like I am in my 40's! It really has boosted my self-confidence and made me feel so happy and alive again! God Bless you all as you continue on your weight loss journey!

I can't eat fresh lettuce or spinach as their consistency is too "wimpy"-salads I can eat if no lettuce.

Thank you both! I am using Metamucil already, but beans....! Lol! I don't know if it's because I had the long limb RNY ,or what, but since surgery they don't digest and swell up inside me! I get very sick if I eat them! I miss them, though! 😔 I am eating spinach salads and adding flax meal and chia seeds where I can. It's just very slow and difficult. I am getting in all of my water too! Yay! 😃 Thanks for the help!

Yup, I am doing great with my proteins and water, but I am phenomenally constipated! I am trying to work in fiber without getting too high on carbs. It has been very challenging!

Love the pico especially on a baked potatoe in lieu of sour cream.

Spa day today. Packing for trip to Martha's Vineyard. Have never been to Massachusetts or on a senior bus tour so should be interesting.

I have nearly doubled my wardrobe. The last few years my sister-in-law had lost weight. My brother wanted her clothes to go to family and friends. She had great tastes in clothing and some had never been worn. I am trying to use my things--best dishes, crystal etc.

Just wanted to stop by and say hello. I have been waiting to see how all the changes on SparkPeople website affect the ease of use. Over abundance of ads and simplicity gone. So I just want to save goodbye. I am removing myself from the leadership of the team. I wish everyone success. If you use Myfitnesspal you may see me occasionally.

Definitely worth sharing. Funny seeing others identify with some of the same issues. I put being colder to age and had not thought about loss of the layers of insulation. Thanks for taking time to pass this on. emoticon

Saw this on the Ontario site...worth sharing I think. 11 signs a persons had weight loss surgery 1. Your co-worker heard a strange noise and doesnt bat an eyeknowing it was your stomach. Patients often ask me why their new pouch makes odd gurgling noises. It could be too big of bites or eating too quickly. It could also just be your stomach moving around and making noises for all to hear smile emoticon 2. You have a space heater under your desk in the middle of July. It may be in part to losing some insulation but many postop wls patients are colder than theyve ever been using more blankets at night and space heaters to keep warm. 3. Your alarm just went off for the third time today to remember your next vitamin. While bariatric vitamins have become much more simpler in recent years, it still takes reminders to get in your vitamins. Your family might even hear the alarm and hand you your calcium! 4. Protein is always first on your mind at your meals it might as well be plastered inside your forehead. Proteinprotein..wheres the protein? Protein is what fills you up and keeps you full! You get the most out of your surgery when you focus on lean and solid protein sources. 5. Your waitress keeps asking if the food is okay. And if youre sure you dont want a drink. When you can only eat an ounce or so, the wait staff may think something is wrong with the food. And what do you mean you dont want anything to drink?? 6. Your pants are barely holding on but youre still holding off to go shopping. Just make sure you dont carry a heavy object and walk up a flight of stairs. At least not around anyone smile emoticon 7. Speaking of shopping, you still go to the plus sized section first out of habit. Its hard to wrap your mind around your new body. Leave plenty of time and stay patient with yourself as you find out what size your body is. Take a good friend to be your runner and someone to talk it out with. 8. You get overjoyed at the release of a new protein bar flavoror a sale on your favorite protein bars. Quest has a new flavor?!?!??! Ahhhhh!!!!!! 9. You rejoice at the small things like crossing your legs or getting a pair of boots that zip up your calves. Some things youll never take for granted again. It may seem like nothing to others, but to you its something big. 10. You use lingo like wlsbariatric friendlypouchvsg You gotta know the lingo to be in the club! 11. You smile as you think of how far youve come and get excited to think of where youll be soon. Patients wonder why they didnt have their surgery sooner.

Congratulations, Kristy on your upcoming surgery. You will do fine. Stock up before surgery on items for your coming home-sugar free popsicles, pedilyte pops (have electrolytes and your body will need them right after surgery), Powerade zero-also has electrolytes.
Your big problem once you first get home will be keeping hydrated.
Also, remember to walk, walk, walk.

Kristy, It is helpful to begin changes in the diet before the surgery. You realize you can lose and then not so drastic when you have the surgery. Best wishes.

My name is Kristy and I just had my first appointment with the surgeon as I look toward having gastric bypass. I have been overweight for almost my whole life and it is time to make some drastic changes. I started the pre-surgery diet today and it will definitely take some getting used to, but it will be worth it.

Phoenixrebirth. As you have osteoarthritis be aware that if you are having a roux en Y then due to the pouch you will not be able to take any NSAiDs post surgery. That is never. It has caused me some post surgery problems in trying to find naturopathic and acupuncture to help with arthritis pain. Yes some pain went away as I lost weight but I still get arthritis pain.

Visited my big bro at his rehab place yesterday. He is cancer free - YAY!. Looks good for a chemo patient and is working on regaining his walking. He's lost ~100 lbs so far. Method definitely not recommended, but result is better for his health.

That visit stirred up alot of emotional junk for me and my over eating reflects my attempts to stuff feelings. Scale is up, Steps are down, During the day, Nappy Time is never enough. At night, my brain is wide awake and VERY active going down Memory Lane!

Today I'm focusing on the Present. I will walk, drink water and Spark. Considering 5 day pouch reset.....

I did me and my hubby's taxes when we first got the form from work. In electronically and back within 3 days-both federal and state. State lagged as NY state does not like having to pay out. Federal is always faster for me.

hi everyone i am just starting the preliminaries for the surgery. I just had my nutrition appointment plus my psych evaluation. I will be glad when I have the surgery. One of the things that will sure help me with the surgery I won't be in as much pain from my osteoarthritis.

Countrymom. I bet your ground beef was less than 10% fat! The meat is too dry when it is low fat. Chef Dave says to use ground meat that is 15% or 20% fat. Your portion size is small so the extra fat will not be too much. The fat gives it moisture. Or make sure there is a gravy or sauce to make the ground meat moist. For steak Rib Eye is what chef Dave recommends and even for me who can only eat port and fish easily I can manage 2 oz of rib eye and it tastes good if not overcooked.

since you are only out a couple of months try moist cooking methods and when you are out further say 4 to 6 months then try a rib eye steak.

Plus what you can eat and not eat changes so keep trying foods every couple of weeks to see.

Counseling will help you to see yourself as the new you. Support groups will also help. It takes time to change our self image and most of the time it also takes some counselling most of the time.

For the first year your emotions will be all over the place. It gradually will even out. Try to roll with the changes. The changes in your body and image can also contribute to the emotional rollercoaster.

I have different likes and dislikes concerning food after the surgery then I did before.
My actual tastes are different now.

There is alot I cannot have due to the stomach-rice is one of them. Lettuce in salads I used to eat before the surgery -cannot go near it-too flimsy. Cannot have celery due to the stringy nature of it. Milk now I am finding that I can have every so often-but not alot. (and I am not Lactose intolerant)

Even after having the surgery on Dec 17 2012 I am still discovering things about myself and my little tummy.

Your loss is terrific. The protein drink is helpful especially in the early stage in order to get what you need. It does get easier. would encourage you to stick to the progression diet recommended by your health team. I do not tolerate rice very well

Body image is strange. I did not really recognize the change until about 9-12 months out. Now, I see myself as petite. Where I am near or at goal, I still focus on my plan so I do not lapse into old habits. Not sure how others have managed it. Nice to be in normal range; not seen for many years.

Hi everyone, Hope you are all having a great week. Sorry I don't get on here more often. I manage to check in once a month.
Tomorrow will be 2 month post op and I feel like I struggle with getting in my protein for each day. I have been drinking Premier protein shakes to help. I use to love beef and now my stomach can not tolerate ground beef. I sure hope this passes as time goes on.
I have lost 60 lbs so far. I assume that is good. I will be going to my family doctor for labs next week. I hope I will be able to stop my blood pressure meds.
I was told I would have aches and pains as I loose weight...I have a spot in my mid back that is so sore right now. Hope that goes away soon.
I am not suppose to eat rice during this stage of my plan....but I want it any way I can get it. lol My stomach likes it. this was never my thing before the surgery. lol It is so weird.

Even though I am in two sizes smaller and on my way into the next size down....I still feel like a big person. Does this ever change? I can see the changes in my body...and I do feel great most of the time. I go through periods of feeling weak or tired. I hope that is normal. Other days I feel like I am on top of the world.

Ok, I will stop for now.. Have a great weekend everyone.

Have a blessed day, Sheila

Pedometers are notorious for malfunctioning.Try moving it to another location on your body. You want it somewhere where it stays up and down and not tipped foreword or backward.

Yesterday I just wanted to eat all day! emoticon emoticon

While I foods I ate were all healthy and not junk, the quanty and frequency were high. I was just HANGRY. emoticon

I think it was the caffeine coffee I've been drinking the past few days (1-2 c per day caff, the rest de-caf).

Today is all no caff coffee and we'll see how that works. emoticon

Pedometer still registering crazy numbers (124 steps ALL DAY??? REALLY?!) Still working the bugs out on it. emoticon

Sounds like the new meters do help focus on one's performance. Being so short get lots more steps in for same distances. Too cold to walk out so at mall to get steps in.

I started blabbing all about it on the Exercise Check In thread and realized I should really post my blatherings on my blog.

Last night after a late night of reunion planning, stopped by McDonald's to pick up a small burger and fries for son to have for dinner. Starting with just a couple of fries as I drove, I ended up consuming the whole bag. Needless to say I will not do this again. Did not have a protein bar in the car so not good planning.

Last nite lost the battle with a bag of carmel corn emoticon emoticon

This morning picked myself up, dusted off and am starting again! emoticon

Still striving for that ice breaker (figuratively in Northern Cali!) walk around the block emoticon

So thankful. Our house finally sold. So glad no longer paying for taxes, insurance,, electricity, yard upkeep etc. on two houses. Stressful. Know I could have gotten more but would have been out the expenses so six of one and a half dozen of the other.

I'm still working on getting past the 197 hurdle emoticon

My logical brain knows it's all about getting more activity but my emotional brain LOVES being a chair/couch potato. emoticon

Made a nice pot of soup yesterday - veggie with leftover ham from breakfast out and kidney beans emoticon

Altho it's gray & foggy in Northern Cali, my goal today is at least one trip around the block. Back to baby steps to prime my pump..... emoticon

I'm focusing on moving more and making better choices as much of the time as I can. It is a daily uphill battle. emoticon

Scale hovering around 197 (+-2) which is frustrating, but size 14 jeans are now bagging off my butt. emoticon I'm a bit scared to try on 12's, but better to know reality.... emoticon

We have a pineapple express. warm winds and rain from Hawaii are bringing lots of rain and gray skies. Temps are warmer than normal in the 40's.

Actually this was the second hip replacement on that hip. I passed all the physical therapy and occupational therapy exercise goals in the hospital. Mostly due to the fact that I had so many restrictions/limitations after the 1st hip replacement. Many of the exercises are the same as for a lumbar spine problems which I struggle.
I do what I can and am working with physical medicine both MD and Naturopath to get the muscles to relax and get flexibility back. Inflammation will go away slowly. I see improvements every day. In a couple of weeks I hope to be back to normal most of the time with set limitations.
