Actually according to the wii site, the new update allows special sd (sdhc) cards to work up to 32 gb. The regular sd cards still only work up to 2 gb, but the sd high capacity versions can be bigger. No clue why an sdhc 32 is workable but an sd 4 is not :P
The memory is like a hard drive, or probably more accurately, like an SD card since it's "flash memory" instead of a disc that rotates (inside a hard drive)...so there is no update that will help the amount of space that's available (that's built into the system when it was made).
However, they have updated the Wii to be able to use an SD card for some memory--to be able to save some game data to or to be able to play some games (WiiWare) from it (I know that not all games allow for it, but want to say that most would). You can have up to a 2 GB card for it to work (bigger cards will NOT work).
Now, the update might have helped being able to play the YouTube videos because for a while there, the version of Flash (it's a program that helps run a lot of video type stuff from the internet) was too old to work with YouTube.
I'm glad to hear that it works again, as it hadn't worked for a while. Thanks for the info. (and sorry if I got a bit too technical...lol.)
Oh, and to help you have more space, you can always use an SD card to store some of the things you're not using at that point in time. You can even save the data on your computer, if you have only one SD card, then you can just switch out the info whenever you need/want to.

I tried manually updating it. It said I already have the most current software. :( Thank you for the help, though! I'll have to hit up the Wii-Boards to see if there's anything I can do to increase my Wii's memory. I'm starting to lean toward the "Needs an SD Card" answer.

Well you have to specifically do the update (go to the wii symbol at bottom of screen, and then go through those lists of options, somewhere there is an update system selection). It is not an automatic update, they even warn you when you select it "are you sure" because if you hacked your system (not sure what the point of that would be) then updating it might make it unplayable.
