I worked out on the outdoor challenge program today for 30 minutes. I definitely need to do it more often. I also worked out on it about 5 days ago. also I am just checking in

I have some disability issues, so some games I can't do (anymore). But the Wii is great for me because I need to do smaller chunks of exercise. I have a bunch of Wii games, but my current favorites (in order of use) are:
* Wii Fit Plus and Board
* Walk It Out
* Wii Sport Resort
* Just Dance 4

I've also found the following to be effective:
* Gold's Gum Cardio Workout
* Dance Dance Revolution (DDR) 2 (my absolute favorite, before I permanently damaged my knee--not from DDR!)

I looked at Wii Active, but decided it wasn't a good fit for me.

Walk It Out: I have trouble clicking on stuff while I'm walking too! I end up stopping for a second to click. And as I can only do small bits of exercise--a maximum of 10-15 minutes when I feel really good, my son finally did much of Walk It Out for me so I would have some songs and scenery while I exercised.

As for a stepper machine--it might mess with the Wiimote's ability to register steps properly, but I don't know. Maybe it would work great. I bought a cheap stepper, oh, 20 years ago and didn't like using very much. I was glad I hadn't wasted more than $25 on it. For Walk It Out I use the Wiimote and nunchuck--I found I didn't like needing to worry about WHERE I put my feet. (Falling off the board using the Wii Fit board or missing the squares on the Dance Dance Revolution mat.) For many of the songs I do a simple dance step that makes walking in place more fun for me. I feel stupid just walking in place too. Sometimes I walk around the house a little for variety; the Wiimote seems to have a range of 30 ft or so. Obviously I can't click on anything then, but it's worth it to me and my muscles to vary my movement.

SparkPeople and Wii calorie counts: If you type "Wii" or "Wii Fit" in the Spark Fitness activity search, it does come up with some specific Wii game types to use. I think anything Wii Fit would rate as level 2 to 3 is Easy/Moderate and anything Level 4 or above is High/Intense. (I base level 3.5 on how hard it is for ME to do it.) If it's a different Wii game not listed, I use Wii Fit levels as my guideline.

So what wii games are people finding to be the most effective with there workouts?

I have:
Wii Active
Wii Active 2
Walk it out (i think thats what its called)
Wii Fit and Board

And My personal trainer, which i entered my stats into and it changed all of them to something else so i didn't end up using this game beyond the start up ....

I started back in with Wii Active but quickly got sick of managing the cable between the nunchuck and wii mote so i switched to Active 2 but i was having a couple of issues with the hr monitor not sure its recording quite as high as my actual heartrate is, since i have another monitor. But i guess that should only throw off the calorie est. Not sure so i entered based on the spark people wii exercise.

I like walk it out but i cannot manage walking and clicking on the stuff at the same time the cursor seems to jump all around. I was thinking about looking for one of those mini steper machines to use so i can walk in place easier with it, has anyone tried that?

When entering calorie counts i notice spark has wii easy/moderate and high/intense exercise, what determines the level? Is it how hard you feel you are working out, certain heart rate ranges or specific types of exercises? I want to make sure i'm not over estimating my exercise.

Anyways what are your favorite wii workouts? Has anyone tried adding a mini stair stepper for walking or something like that? I feel so crazy just walking in place LOL. But i don't have the room for a treadmill :(

Well, as a group we've been pretty quiet lately, but individually--people are still using their Wii.

Just a thought: The Wii is great for many people who are unable to do much exercise because of limitations.
emoticon
Wii Fit is wonderful for people who can't/shouldn't do much at one time because it breaks exercises into small segments. Many Wii exercise games can be used for people needing chair aerobics. Wii Sports Resort and Gold's Gym Cardio Workout are two I've used for get in cardio when I couldn't stand.

Where I now work is a much larger installation so I try to walk during my lunch and if I get in before my start time, I walk up the hill to another part of the installation. This helps make up for the less walking I do than at the previous job. I sometimes have to park about 7 minutes away from my building on mornings when the lot in front of my building is full.

Hi CHEMPHARM! I get the impression that many team members still use their Wii, but are not very active in this team. My Wii is still my go-to exercise. It gets me moving when nothing else does.

Congratulations on the new job, CHEMPHARM! I was hoping they would start a new WII Monopoly but nobody responded to my question in this thread. WII Monopoly would be very flexible with your new job. I'm just trying to WII on my own right now.

Just checking in. I was on the Wii Outdoor challenge a few days in January. I have not done any in Feb. I need to get on it especially now that I started a new Job at the beginning of year that does not involve as much walking as the previous Job. Same employer but different agency so I did not lose any service time.

Is there any chance of a new Wii Monopoly challenge starting in February? I wasn't very good at it, but it was a lot of fun--and something the "less able" team members could participate in.

Another beautiful day. I'm going to spend some time outside raking pine needles and so on. I can't believe we're having this weather in February. Here's a pic from the deck this morning.

Hope you're feeling better.

Haven't Wii'd the past several days because I finally got out to do some shopping two days. All that walking is enough for me.

Our weather is unusually nice for February. Predicted to reach 50 this week! I can't believe it. Should still be snow on the ground.

When the sun shines the Wii goes wonky. It seems to be affected by bright light, and the curtains don't make it dark enough. With it this warm though I can go for a walk or maybe consider a bike ride.

I love the Wii Fit. I love sooooo many of the games. I was on for 51 min today. Time goes by so fast when I am on the Wii. I think it is such a genius way to exercise. I love the Obstacle Course, Bird game ,Penguin balancing game, bubble balancing, bike riding course and the Marching Band the most.

Great, 40PUDDLEJUMPER! You don't have to officially sign up--I didn't. I just jumped in and was welcomed. Just scroll way down in the thread and go to the last page (which is the oldest page) and read the instructions in the initial post and... maybe the next 2 or 3 posts after that.

The only change I'm aware of is the typo in the instructions about landing on a square that requires you to complete a Wii Challenge. The text reads; "Once you have completed your assigned challenge post it and then you can continue on with your next 2000 calories." It SHOULD be 2500 calories. I know because that's one of the few squares I've landed on, and Amy had to correct me.

I'm aware of only two current challenges: Amazing Race 2015, which is a team challenge, and WII MONOPOLY, which is an individual challenge.

WII MONOPOLY, under the Challenges, Workouts, and High Scores forum, is good for starting over--like I did three months ago. You'll have to expand the Forum list by clicking on the forum name or clicking "See More Topics" to find it, because WII MONOPOLY is not a Sticky Topic.

WII MONOPOLY is a looong, ongoing challenge where you report your exercise calories burned each day. It does NOT have to be exercise done only on the Wii. When you build up to 2,500 calories, you get a roll of the dice from Team Leader Amy, and move on the Wii Monopoly board. Go down to the initial post to get full instructions.

I'm not able to do a lot compared to the other players, but I really like this challenge! It encourages consistency and accountability in a fun way. Even the fact that luck is a factor in your moves around the board helps me feel good about participating at whatever level I can.

I would REALLY WELCOME someone else who is just starting this challenge!! (And honestly, I would love it if you weren't able to burn 400-600 calories a day at this point. I can't.)

Something for me to work towards and someone to compete against. Anyone up for it?

I got Wii Just Dance 4 yesterday; this is the first "Just Dance" game I've bought. I picked this one because its description indicates it's the first one that has a workout mode and, as it's been out for a couple years, it was cheaper than the newer versions.

I've only tried it once so far, but I was pleased. I selected the shortest workout mode. It had warm up and cool down sections and the music was lively and fun. I couldn't follow the dance steps for anything--I just stepped and flailed my arms around and had a great time. Attempting to follow the dance steps distracted me from the fact I was getting exercise--which why I bought the game. I worked up a sweat! This is a good addition to my Wii arsenal of exercise games to keep me from getting bored with exercise.

The only disappointment I had with the workout mode was in the character setup. When you create your character, the icons are quite limited. Most disappointing was there was no place to enter your weight for calorie calculation. The workout does estimate calories burned; however, it's probably based on a 120 lb teenager's body. At my weight, no wonder I thought I was dying when the game said I'd only burned 50 calories. I used the suggestion from another thread in this team and entered the minutes as "cardio dance" in SparkPeople.

I am trying to get back in the "saddle again". A little better this week. Have made 3 days with 20 minutes on my wii. She missed me. Told me I had been gone for over 100 days!

It's all about doing something rather than nothing.

Thanks to a new puppy; I have turned on the Wii again. I want to track his weight gain so once I weigh him, I feel obligated to do some Wii exercise. I also am obligated to take him out for walks regularly. Don't advocate getting a puppy but he's helping me get in some exercise and outdoor time!

Ugh!!! Day 1 again. I guess what matters is that I'm not completely giving up. I'll keep at it until I get it right!!
