This link has a bunch of different videos showing people using the Wii. It shows the game as well as those playing the game and how they have to move to make the game work. I hope this is what you were looking for.

does anyone know of a good video online showing people getting a good workout with the wii? I'd like to show my husband and kids so they will help motivate me. All the ones I find on youtube are either of the game itself, or people standing in one spot swinging their arms, or they have bad language, etc. I saw a good wii fit video, but not any with just the sports games.

Kids definately love the wii's. My son is 16 months as well and loves to watch me play tennis. he even holds the remote and likes to swing it aound :P so i imagine older kids would do just fine.
that's just my personal experience.

p.s. someone else on here recommended wiialerts.com to purchase your wii's. just thought I'd pass on the 411

My Wii system came with both the remote and the nunchuck. With the Sports game, it comes with everything you need to play right away in the box -- except for the display.

Here's the Wii site and the page that tells you what comes in the box: http://www.nintendo.com/wii/what

Well all I can is 'nuff said! You got about all the info there is to get. However I might add. When I bought my Wii bundle, I got it at Wal Mart, and it was actually 10.00 cheaper than everywhere else. I know 10.00 isn't much but nowadays that's a gallon and a half of gas!!

Wii systems will never be on sale, at least any time soon...they were finally being able to stay in stock for a little bit (very little) before Wii Fit came out...now they're gone again. So, get it when you want, but don't think you'll find a special, at least not much of one to warrant waiting for it.

As for kids playing...I've seen a 3 or 4 year old strike his dad out at baseball. It's very easy to use, so they can pick it up really quick. My 16 month old loves it. She will pick up controllers and start playing and jump up on the Wii board and look at the TV. She also dances in circles on the DDR mats when we have one out.

At one time, we had left the Wii on and just turned off the TV. She found the Wiimote in the floor and when she hit a button, the Wii made noises through the sound system. She went over, turned the TV on, and went to the Balance Board. She understands video games and that somehow we control what's on the screen, even though she's too young to figure out the buttons and how to control things. She has a blast with it, though.

You can definitely use the Wii Fit to work out. The Wii Fit is my exercise of choice. It has yoga, strength training, aerobics, and balance games (multiple games in each category).

You can go back and forth through the four categories so no two work outs ever have to be the same. It's great fun and is in no way boring (which is the problem I have with most exercise regimes).

Good Luck! Have fun! You CAN do this!

Hey Team,
Thanks for the info. I'm getting really excited about getting a wii. It will be hard to wait until September. I picked that date because I thought I would have a good habit of exercising in place if I wait until then, plus, I was hoping they stores might have a "back to college" sale on wiis. But the way they seem to be flying off the shelves, I guess they won't need to put them on sale to increase demand at all.
Its good to know I can have some fun working out with the wii even if I don't have a balance board. Maybe that can be a family Christmas gift. Do you think my kids (ages 3,6,6,8) will be able to play the wii game? Would they like any of the wii fit stuff or is that more for exercise conscious adults?
Thanks again for the imput. What a great team.

Hi JOAN717!

I do 10 to 15 minutes of exercise myself so I'm also glad to see another person with that same goal.

The Wii Console comes with WiiSports. Which has boxing, tennis, bowling and baseball (maybe golf). You can get a workout from those, especially the boxing. It has training modes as well as play. In fact, I was thinking of using the training on the boxing one day this week for my exercise. I haven't done the training before but the boxing game kicked my rear when I first got it. I'm thinking now after a month of 10 to 15 minute workouts I'm ready to really give that boxing a go.

WiiFit comes with the balance board. The balance board is just the board that you play WiiFit on. The board is going to be used for new games as they are made. For excample, Jillian from The Biggest Loser has a game coming out and I've seen some rumors of a yoga game coming out.

Hope that helps.

ETA: While typing my response 2 other people responded. What a helpful group y'all are. I'm so glad I found this place and joined.

Okay...

1. Wii system comes with "Wii Sports"--which is one game disc that includes golf, bowling, tennis, baseball, and boxing (which requires a nunchuck attachment as well as the "Wiimote" (Wii remote--a fan started name)--I think the system comes with one Wiimote and no nunchuck attachments.

2. Wii Sports will give you some cardio workout...as long as you keep moving with it (some of them, like bowling, has score cards in between the turns).

3. Other ways to do cardio on the Wii...DDR (dance dance revolution) Hottest Party is a game on the Wii. You use a "dance pad" that you lay on the floor and has 4 arrows (up, down, left, right) that you "dance" on. It even figures calories burned based on weight entered in the system and how many steps you took (not what steps you actually did right).

Another game is the Wii Fit. If you can find it, right now it does come with both the game and the Wii Fit Board. Someday, they'll probably be sold separately, but I doubt that will happen any time soon. Wii Fit is the game itself, the Balance Board is like another kind of controller.

Other suggestions: There are lots of other games to choose from that will get you moving, although maybe not quite in the cardio direction. Like Mario Kart--it's a lot of fun. Definitely go for the official Nintendo wheels if you want one, they're weighted to help it feel more like a real steering wheel--the Wheel is only there for feel, the controller just fits into it, but it definitely helps. It's also an easy to control game. I got a car game that came out when the Wii was released and never play it because I can't use it...it's way to sensitive, but Mario Kart is perfect and easy to use and a lot more fun that realistic racing games...where else can you through shells and bananas at other karts?

Wii Sport is a good one---the boxing on it does my shoulders and back a great workout.

I do LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Wii fit. I jogged for 4 minutes(still a newbie with this) yerstady and today my calves are KILLING me.

The Wii Fit board(which comes with the game) is actually the controller....much like the nunchuck(sp) is for some of the other games, like boxing.

I hope this info is helpful...remember I am still a newbie here(3 weeks so far), but I learned a few things along the way.

The wii is going to be my reward for 10 minutes (hopefully 15 soon) per day of exercise, 6 days a week from now until the end of August. If I can only afford the wii fit console (I hope it comes with some games), am I going to be able to use it to work out? Do I need to get the wii fit and balance board. (Is wii fit a different thing from the balance board?)
Suggestions and ideas will be greatly appreciated.
