The Wahls Protocol comes out on 3/13/2014. I have pre-ordered my copy. If anyone would like to try this way of treating their MS I would love to have a partner or two as we figure how to follow the plan that Dr. Wahls lays out in her new book. I don't know about many of you but I have been progrssively been going in a direction I jjust don't want to go and I figure this is worth a shot and from everything I have researched so far it can't hurt. Let me know by dropping me a sparkmail if your condidering giving it a try.

NOWYOUDIDIt, nice to meet you, I am Theresa. I have been diagnosed since 2005 with PPMS. A naturopath and I have traced mine back to my high school days. It went very slow until I was bitten by a spider.
I have been doing some internet search on the Dr. Wahl's diet and I think it makes a lot of sense. I like beans also and will not give them up. I do soak them overnight now. This way they start to sprout and the natural toxin that they have to protect themselves from bugs is washed away. I try to eat vegetarian 2 to 4 times per week. DH doesn't care for that, but I always have something that he can chew on. I have not bought the book but really should.

I had my last child when I 42. She is 16 now and her sisters are 36, 38, 38, 40. Adopting is a wonderful thing to do. Those 17 children are so lucky. You sound like a wonderful person.

Well I saw the SWANK diet on an MS forum and it is nothing like Dr Wahls! And Dr Wahls suggested I buy a Dr Fuhrman book and he too is nothing like Dr Wahls diet!!?? Except that she likes Beans and he does too. But she eats grass fed meats and naturaly raised poultry- he does not.
But I also ordered on her suggestion- The Whole Life Nutrition book and that one is a keeper!
I'm working on tailoring a real food, no wheat and Low carb diet for me! LOL!! It's not as easy as following the crowd! LOL!

No he was my 4th! But the others are 37,34 and 32 and he is 9! We also adopted 17 children ages 5-37 yrs!

Pills! Wow! great news- I take so may now though I'd hate to add more! OY- I hate the Dr!

My right eye started as Optic Neuritis in 2000 and ended as a blood clot - transient ischemic stroke that stopped blood from flowing from the brain to the eye killing the optic nerve. The Neuro said optic neuritis and the nerve endings tests on my feet and head showed damage. So she diagnosed MS. I've had 2 MRIs to check my sclerosis on my brain and my eye- both show sclerosis and stable. I need another MRI but I can barely do one with out a Valium!

I did lose balance eating high carb (WW)- so I do believe a good foods diet can help. Before WW I also fell frequently, my Neuro said weight loss would help, yes, but not weight loss on high carb!! I had the worst stress of my life when I was diagnosed in 2000, my mom told all my Drs my MS was worse due to stress. Only one Dr agreed with her. But I see now (hindsight) how true it is.

So my goal is diet because I can see with LC and no wheat I can walk without getting tipsy- kicking everything in front of me! Stress is another story- my husband of 37 years may be the death of me. ;o)

Your vision or no vision with your right eye is this from the MS or another problem. This could also be your balance problem. Losing weight is a good thing and can't see that would not help your balance or make it worse.

They do have a great choice of pills out now so you don't have to get poked. I have had 26 years of being poked and was tired of it run out of sites to put the darn needle now on a pill and I love it, no side effects other than some tingling on the face for a little.

Your baby was this your first? Wow I am so happy for you that is a miracle in it's self. emoticon Relapsing/remitting MS usually is slow and if you can keep the stress out of your life and eat right keep the weight down you will do just fine.

I lost contact with the MS society about 9 years ago. It made me more depressed. My Neuro had left our area then- not that she'd been much help, but now the nearest neuro is 60 miles away. :o(
I refused to try any injectable drug when diagnosed. They lost their patience with me, and then I got pregnant (a miracle in itself) and had my son at 47. When my son was about 4 my regular Dr said if I lost weight I'd have better balance. He was wrong.
I need to get re-connected with the MS society. To read what they say- my neuro never suggested diet- only injectable medications.
I have been blessed that my MS has not progressed to anything worse. My relapses fade with time. Although I sure miss having vision in my right eye.

NOWYOUDIDIT the MS society is very big now on all low carb diets. I am thinking on going on the lets see if I can spell it right Vegan diet I have talked to several people who have MS and have been on it and the say they feel much better could feel a world of difference.

It is hard to lose weight but it can be done I have dropped over 40 pounds took a while but it does come off. I am older now and just for that fact is harder now than ever.

It is ta bad you also have diabetes. LOL at this point I don't think there is anything to cure MS just help slow it down. Are you on Copaxon or anything?

Hi! Greenie! Thanks for your reply!
Here is the link, http://www.terrywahls.com/
I think they said it is like the SWANK diet. I had heard of those diets but never looked into them. Ever since I was diagnosed my mom would call me to tell me about another diet that would "cure" my MS. I stopped listening.

I think Dr Wahls is like Paleo only her own twist. I eat LC and came to Spark People in May this year, now that I have type 2 diabetes and have PCOS/Insulin resistance.

So I'm learning from everybody! And I am listening to what has worked for others. The Wahls research/diet intrigued me!

I did quit wheat ( I read Wheat Belly) and was amazed that I lost 90% of fluid retention in my legs, and my all over body inflammation pain is gone!!!! Yeah!!

In 2007 I did weight watchers, got my weight down to 189 and my balance was even worse. I was very very upset over how awful I felt. :o( Back then I ate very high carb- especially WW snack bars.

So hope to learn more here!!

Hi NOWYOUDIDIT my name is GREENIE I started this sight years ago. thank you for introducing this diet. I will have to look it up I have not heard of this one. I have had relapsing/remitting for 25 26 years now. Have you felt a difference with this diet? The Swank and Dugan was big when I first got MS they are probably not up to a good standard now was a long time ago. I just try and do low carb food as much as I can.

Hi! I'm new here. I have relapsing/remitting MS since 2000. I just read Minding My Mitochondria- fascinating! Anyone else doing Dr Wahls diet?
