SUNFLOWER sorry it has taken me so long to find you. Of course it is ok I need to go through and change some things I am not very good on the computer so will take me awhile not sure which part you were talking about but my system here needs a up date I know. I started this group a very long time ago and didn't know what I was doing then LOL. I have been sick and then had to start work so that is why I am absent a lot but will try and get on here more often.

After rereading the teams description I see it says weight issues caused by MS. I had weight issues before the MS it just makes it tougher noe. Since my weight gain is not a direct result (at least not that I am aware of) the MS is it still okay to be on this team?

I used to hear, over and over, that effective weight loss needs to include a combination of dieting and exercise.

For those of us hate exercise, that's a challenge. For those of us who also have mobility or stamina issues, it's an additional challenge.

But, I lost 60 pounds with almost no exercise. I did it by creating my own program, based on sound nutritional ideas, and, on what "fit" me, rather than following someone else prescribed suggestions. I believe that, if you choose the most wonderful weight loss program, but, you hate it, you won't stick to it, and so it won't work.

Figure out what you hate about losing weight, and, what you're willing to do. Then, ... just do it.

I must be honest I have been up and down with my weight for the majority of my adult life but its been even tougher as my abilities have decreased. I am finding myself discouraged right now and am seeking support and words of wisdom. Plus some tips that might make this journey a bit more manageable.

Hi Faith,

I think the fatigue and stamina issues of MS are for real deterrents. I work in a 2 story K-2 building and after a days work going up and down the stairs I have little energy left. 3 of my grandkids are at school with me and I help with them and their stuff till their mom gets off work. I push myself to the gym. Some days I only do a little but I try to do something.

I've been on steriods and anitibiotics for 5 weeks/ I have appt.. with PT tomorrow. I told him I was not at 0 I'm at negative 2. emoticon But I'll begin again and cancel my pity party. I just have to sit in my neuro's office to get over that.

I hope you have a good week.

Vicki

Hi S. Good to see you here.

I have to admit, I tend to use my fatigue issues and low stamina, which are due to MS, as an excuse not to exercise. Although am I am not able to run or do cardio, or even to walk very long, or very briskly, I could do 4 or 5 ten-minute walks per day, if I could motivate myself. I could also do a little bit of strength training. But, I rarely do. I do carry a pedometer, and, on an average day, I log about 3,000 steps, just doing my daily things.

I'm glad you're doing well. As I said in a previous post, I really am trying to think lifestyle change and fitness, not just losing weight. My husband is also trying and that helps.

I used to walk 3-4 miles at a time on treadmill, I also have asthma and this was good for me. Then MS arrived and now I'm doing like 5-10 minutes at a time. But I am doing it and I am building up. I wear a pedometer most days to track steps. This helps too.

Thanks for the reply. Wow you've had MS for a long while. It sounds like you're doing well even with the diabetic diagnosis on top of MS. Do you take any of the modifying drugs.

Thanks for the reply. emoticon I have a granddaughter -3 yrs- named MaddiLynn, we often call her Maddi.

It looks like you are being successful with you lifestyle change. I'm trying to forget the diet word and think "lifestyle change".

I, too, feel a lot better when I exercise more regularly. Summers are always bad for me, but I have started walking again.

I don't worry as much about the weight anymore, although I really would like to lose. The fact is, I've always been overweight, toddler, child, teen and now, so I'm beginning to think that this is just me.

But exercising helps my overall well-being, so I'm determined to get back up to at least the 30 minutes a day.

I am more determined to eat healthy, too. So in the long run I may actually lose - lol

Hi Vicki!

I don't know if I manage MS, diet, and exercise but I try.

Since 1984, when Type 2 diabetes was added to the MS diagnosis, I've had to watch my diet really carefully. I'm still counting calories and watching the intake of fat, salt, protein, etc., and weighing food and looking at nutrition labels.

The exercise part is something I really have to drive myself to do--I'm always in serious danger of "forgetting" about it!

Formerly Phoebe here.

Hi Vickie!

getting a good routine is key. I find that once I get out of my exercise routine, it is very hard to get in what I want to accomplish. I have to schedule it and stick to the schedule for a few weeks, then it is easier.

Meds are a problem for sure. I know some make it hard to lose weight not only from an increase in appetite but also because the med may cause metabolic changes.

I always do feel better though, even if I have extra weight, maybe from meds, when I keep to exercising.

Hi everyone emoticon I'm still learning how to use this site. It's great. I joined WW for the accountability. I needed someone besides me weighing me. My meds. & MS are stable right now. I've been doing PT for the weakness in my legs and balance. I want to develop a strong routine before I go back to work. I'm a teacher.

How are you doing? How do you manage exercise, meds, and weight? I've gained 44 lbs since a relapse and fall. Working to get it off.
