LOVETOLAUGH56 Thank you for sharing with us and thank you also for your honesty.
emoticon All the things you mentioned will help you grow closer to God. I know so myself because those ARE the things which also brought me closer to God in the past three years: being still and listening to Him, bible study with homework, reading the bible and looking for answers to my problems instead of watching TV. Growing closer to God, and becoming intimate with Him is a renewing of your mind, and it is definitely a process.

I used to be a person who only read the bible a few times a year, and now reading it daily makes ALL the difference in my life and my relationship with God. It has made such a huge difference in fact. I will never return to my old ways. I now realize I need to read the bible every day, it is the best thing I could possibly fill up on. It is medicine to my spirit, it beings me a new life, and a greater sense of God each day. Thank you again for being part of this study & team! emoticon

What changes do I need to make to grow more spiritually?
Great question.
I think I probably need to do many things different. I need to be still and listen to Him. I need to be in a Bible study once a week with homework. I need to open my Bible and look for answers to my problems instead of watching TV. I need to spend more time with my Christian friends!

SLS-NY2IN (Sherry)

Thank you for sharing with us. I think a lot of us need to work at this one. I know there have been times in my life I was really sensitive thinking I was hurting people when I was not at all. I try so hard not to hurt people, and I have gone out of my way and asked someone if I have in fact hurt them. Now, I know THIS was not what you were talking about. I know that you were saying that you have a friend who thinks people are talking about her and she gets hurt easily. Also, that sometimes you think hurtful things about yourself, of interpret things a certain way. I think there is a little bit of that in each of us at times, some more than others. I appreciate your honesty with us. God wants us to see the best in everyone, and not to become discouraged, but to trust him with every situation, to know He will make good out of everything...including our thoughts. Let's give God a hand and keep our thoughts more positive.

YATMAMA (Missy) I love what you said, and within your search you shall always find Him! emoticon

Dear God I ask you to hold this team in your arms and always help us to continue growing closer to you in all ways dear God. Sherry and Missy have realized the areas they need to change to grow closer to youhelp them as they walk within you. God I ask you to keep helping me too. In Jesus name I pray amen.

I need to listen for the whisper in the wind more, to seek continually so that I find His meaning, His plan, His depth, and respond to His call.

I need to work on(I wanted to say the whisperer) but I know in truth it is the accuser of the brethern. In this case, the brethern being myself. I have been working for some time but often forget when I get too busy. I hear out of my own thoughts or sometimes others, things twisted into words that hurt me and discourage.
They may not mean a thing, but I interpet tone or facial feature into something entirely different, (Not saying it never happens lol) but I can be too sensitive and crumble needlessly.
I have a friend that is sure people are saying things, I tell her most of the time people aren't thinking about you at all. I don't mean that as mean but as most people are not looking at what you are doing they are thinking about something else. Sensitive people think it is about themselves.
This person thinks if you don't answer the phone; you are upset with her, etc.
Sometimes it makes our friendship very hard because you are wondering what is she thinking?
We are suppossed to be temperate and not to fret. Live at peace with one another and ourselves. If I do something and continue to think how dumb I am all day; I am not easy to live with. My sister has a motto "will this be important a hundred years from now?"
God wants me to have peace in my life and peaceful relationships with others. As long as I listen to the accuser of the brethern, whether directed at me or others, I can not have peace.
If my thoughts are directed toward Jesus, He will fill me with joy and I will not have time to listen to lies trying to enter my mind.
This is what came to me when I read your question, so believe it is something I need to work on to get closer to the Lord and realize who I am in Him all the time.

GLEORIA emoticon Thank you for your honesty. I think a lot of people are right there with you on that one. As you know as you ask upon God's time, and work through the Holy Spirit everything works and falls into place at times, you know what I mean? Thanks again for sharing, and I pray that you grow within this area.

God please help Gleoria to work within the holy Spirit. As we continues to grow within you you will show her the way. In Jesus name I pray amen.

I wrote below on what I needed to change in order to grow more spiritually. I wrote out a prayer, and God answered it through my friend LOTUSFLOWER, and I am certain she did not even read what I posted here. She wrote me an email yesterday and I an going to share a portion of it with you. I am going to share a quote she wrote out for me from Rob Bell:

" You already are loved and valued. You’re good enough exactly as you are. Do you believe this? Because it’s true. You have limitless worth and value. If you embrace this truth, it will affect every area of life. You are worth dying for. Your worth does not come from your body, your mind, your work, what you produce, what you put out, how much money you make. Your worth does not come from whether or not you have a man. You have inestimable worth that comes from your Creator. You will continue to be tempted in a thousand different ways not to believe this. The temptation will be to go searching for your worth and validity from places other than your Creator. You’re better than that. You’re already loved."

I looked this guy up and found out he is a pastor, and an author, and does a lot of spiritual things. I found a book he wrote, which I am sure God lead me to. I just thank and praise God. I truly want to grow in this area, and i know that i indeed will. I can not stay at any level with God. My desire is only to increase within my faith, trust, and love with God.

Glad you are back.To grow more spiritually I need not quench the spirit. I have a tendency to put off the promptings of the Holy Spirit. I need to become a quicker responder to his leading.

What changes do you need to make to grow more spiritually?

This is actually a hard one for me to answer. I do a lot of stuff now, but that should not necessarily mean THAT should make it harder for me to answer this question. I don't want to start talking about all the things I currently do either. Hummmmmmm... Ok, I know what I need to change & I was actually looking for a teaching on this- on the Internet. I bought a teaching CD from Joyce Meyer, thinking it covered the subject but it really did not. Ok, here it goes, and it is probably gonna sound really bad. I need to get more of my self worth through God. I just recently started to learn what it meant to be righteous through God earlier this year. I base how I feel about myself largely upon what others say about me and how people treat me. But, I know I am suppose to feel good about myself mainly based on what the bible says I am through Christ. I base my beauty on what I see in the mirror, but the bible says we are to look inside and find what ways and how God sees us. So, hey, if anyone could help me in this area I would more than appreciate it. I am a child of God, and there are certain things I stand on, yet in this area, I admit I DO need to grow and change. I am hoping and expecting God to help me grow in this area, and I am waiting for Him to teach me what I need to know through the bible or a teaching or through someone's words of wisdom...or whatever.

God thank you for helping me lead this small team study on spiritual development. May you always help us to grow closer to you. I ask you to open my eyes, and open my heart, Flood it with your truth about the REAL me, the person I am through you. I know that all of our beauty is through your spirit, why is that so hard for my brain to act out? Please give me your teaching on this through whatever way you want to give it to me. Help me to accept this in the form you chose. If it involves some sort of trail help me to accept your will... You know I have had a lot of those lately! In Jesus name I pray amen.

What Is Spiritual Growth?- team study group

This will be the last question I have for you. Feel free to ask the group your own question/s. I can't guarantee I will have the answer, but maybe someone else will. This is my last question for you to continue to grow spiritually:

What changes do you need to make to grow more spiritually?

Thank you for your prayers so much. I just returned from PA Sunday. Today is September 28th, so Sunday was three days ago. I will post a new question by the end of this week. I just wanted to pop in and let you know I am just trying to add things to this team, and welcome new people, and do other team stuff and I just have not had time to add a new question yet. I will though, a new question will be here at the latest Sept. 30th. Man, where did this month go?

Thank you Missy and everyone else who have added comments to this study.

Missy I know what you mean about a small group study being life changing.
I thought I was a good and knowledgeable Christian before, but I am so changed now, so much closer to Jesus and it has changed my life, my thinking and my actions.
I love this group/team that you lead. It is helping me keep close to other Christians online.
Thanks,
Karen

I'm praying for your mom's complete healing

I believe spiritual growth is
- an ongoing process of opening my heart and mind to what God wants me to learn.
- spending time with Christian friends who pray and also strive to better themselves spiritually
- spending time reading the Bible and letting God touch my heart with the word
- attending my weekly WOW (Women of the Word) gathering and spending time with all the Godly women there in our large group and then my small group.

Karen

Yes, Sherry you did answer the question, and what you said IS key! emoticon You talked about studying the bible and how doing so is literally changing your life! You also said you have been praying over yourself and others. Until about two years ago I did not realize developing spiritually had anything to do with praying, but as I learned developing a prayer life has a lot to do with it. You wrote that you praise God, and you are not sure why it is happening. You see when we start to grow more spiritually God puts this desire to praise Him. One of the reasons we are here is to glorify and praise God, and it is done through growing more spiritually. You also wrote that you have been learning more verses in the bible and it has been easier to do so. I have been working on quoting verses everyday for a long time now. I believe that God helps you to learn His words in the bible as we yearn to do so. You wrote,"... but I am expecting His presence and... I shall see good in the land of the living." You have done a wonderful thing. You have taken your faith of expecting God's presence within your life and stood on your belief. You have read, you have learned, and then EXPECTED God and all His goodness to come into your life. And Sherry, this has made ALL the difference!!!! You wrote,"... recognizing I can do nothing myself " that is surrendering to God and when we surrender to gGd in anything we grow spiritually.

Thank you for sharing, you see you felt unsure if you answers any of the questions, but you shared your heart with us, and in doing so you answered the questions beautifully!

My coming to the cross of Jesus in1984 is when I started growing and transforming from the inside out.

It has never quit my being transformed and life is an adventure since Jesus has been the Savior and Lord of my life.

I stay in the word, I listen to preachers and teachers of many and pray a lot.

Any problems and troubles and pressures and trials always show me more multifacted sides to Jesus.

Jesus reminds me of a diamond, many facets and always sprarklling light.

Attending workshops with alot of biblical sessions has caused me to improve spiritually in the past. First I was able to pick sessions that the Spirit moved me to attend. When I attended I was able to hear from other Christian workshop leaders and participants. One time I attended a session and the leaders recommended a book The Critical Journey stages in the life of faith by Janet Hagberg and Robert Guelich. It helped me Thank you for asking this question, I pulled out the book and I will look at it again. It will help me see where I am on my journey.

Questions:

A. What has caused your life to improve spiritually in the past?
B. Were there key events/people/times?
C. Can you explain?

What has caused my life to improve spiritually in the past...how much time do you have? LOL

In all honestly it was pain and illness that caused me to grow the closest to God. I was 29 years old and silly me, I thought, this is IT. God talks to me, his has moved a "mountain" in my life, my life is good, and God is my best friend, how much closer could we get? Then tragedy struck, and my perfect world came tumbling down. I found out I had something called Uveitis, which can be at times very serious, it can lead to blindness. To read more about this you can click on this link and read my story, www.sparkpeople.com/mypage.asp

I was always close to God. Our friendship started when I was first grade. I felt His presence in my life. But what caused my life to iimprove spiritually was relying on God to help me get through the psychological pain of having Uveitis, and going through the process of nearly losing my vision. During the time I had problems with my eyes I felt worthless. (that was the devil whispering in my ear, but i thought they were my own thoughts, so for a while I believed it!)

Through a total of 4 serious eye surgeries, and many complications, (the problems with my eyes lasted for 10 years) I learned that God would always take care of me through whatever I experienced in my life. You see God healed me when I almost lost my eye sight. Although I still experienced major eye problems for several years God was a constant comfort to me. He brought wonderful things into my life. When it could have been dark and cold He brought sunshine and blessings into my life. Having gone through several shots in my eye balls during that time I relied on God for more things than I ever had to in my entire life. Not being able to do very much for myself during that time (during three years my eye sight was at its worst) my self-esteem suffered. It was God and my relationship with Him that helped me feel better about myself again.

Knowing and believing that God will take care of you no matter what makes a huge difference in your life! It brings peace within any circumstance you experience. What I experienced with my eyes was hell at times, I will be honest, but the things which occurred during those ten years were completely amazing, and God blessed my life in numerous ways. He held my hand, wiped away my tears, and brought me a new and exciting life through my tragedy.

Before I became a member of Sparkpeople I had gained a good amount of weight, I was 50 pounds overweight due to a steroid I was on due to having uveitis. I did not work due to some medical problems and I was very isolated. Through my loneliest I grew closer to God as I sometimes pleaded with Him to bring companionship into my life. I had moved from my family after I got engaged, and did not have any friends. Although I was married to a wonderful man (still am) I suffered within my loneness. Then I started to volunteer by helping others, and doing so filled my life with mew meaning, and fullness.

Being over weight lead me to this team. During the period time that I have been one of your team leaders I have grown the most spiritually. I have been your team leader for three years, and it has been within the last two years I have grown the most spiritually.

When I began to watch conventions Joyce Meyer had on TV through her program Enjoying Everyday Life I developed a deeper relationship and intricacy with God. When I first began to watch her program I would sit in front of the TV and nod my head, and think, oh ya, this is good, that it what I should start doing. However, then I would turn off the TV and do none of it! That did not last too long however, and when I started doing the things she was teaching through her program my life began to change.

I started reading the bible and eventually during the last 1.5 years reading the bible has become part of my lifestyle. For a certain duration of time after I woke up I began to pray for people, and I started saying the armor of God right after I wake up as well. Doing these things as well as other things have made a huge difference in my life!

I know this is long, but I just want to add something else. Being your team leader has been a big part of my walk with God. Those of you who are active members of this team, you know I write about God a lot. Well, I can't write about this stuff and NOT live it out! So, everything I have written about or currently writing about has been part of my life one way or another. I take my life, share it with you through posts, and then pray God's blessings over it. I want my words to help you lose weight, meet your goals, and grow closer to God in the process of it all.

Your relationship with God can and will be something that will totally change your life for the better. Nothing should be more important that developing your relationship with God. He should be more important than your children, your spouse, your family, & your friends; God should be #1 in your life. When you REALLY realize this, and start acting it out in your life that is when your life will change the most, that is when your relationship with God will take off in a new direction, and that will be when you start to REALLY live!!!

Matthew 10:37-39
“Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it."

Studying God's Word. However, lately I learned Acts 3:19 and have been praying it over myself and many others. I don't know if this is it but seems to co-inside with a wondrous time of refreshing in my life for understanding and feasting on God's word. I mean you can study and you can feast. There is a difference. one is kind of like laboring and the other is living Word dropped into your heart!!!
I am not sure of why this is happening but I praise God it is and want it to continue. The book of Ephesians is just unloading mysteries to me!!!! I have been learning more verses and it has been so much easier also. Praise God! Praise God! Praise God! He is so Good!!
Perhaps it is expectancy, although I don't recognise anything particular I have done, but I am expecting His presence and one of my favorites I shall see good in the land of the living.
Also recognizing I can do nothing myself and I all I learn here on this team from others and at church.
I don't know if I answered any of your questions or explained it but my "past" was yesterday and today is a new day in the Lord.

Yes, Bobbie I totslly understand what you are saying a nd I agree with it so much! I too have been at work with this for a llittle over a year now. I try as hard as I can not to talk about people and just told someone a few days ago to pray after she told me a story bout some woman being extremely rude to her. I told my friend," Kick that devil in the face and pray for the woman how hurt you!!!" I was hapy when shw said she liked thst idea. I will read your blog and reply there too. I looked for your blog, I did find it, it is called, God is good.

Thanks for answering the question:

Do you feel you are growing spiritually now? Why?

Read my blog that I wrote for today called God is so good as to my growing and transforming more from my heart to my mind by the new and better revelation that Holy Spirit has given to me to walk in.

I am learning to pray the blessing of heaven onto and into all people who irritate me instead of complaining about them and mumbling and grumbling under my breath about them.

No more negative words or words that bring curses upon all these people.

By my doing this my life is changing completely and I just love praying blessing over all people that rub me the wrong way.

My blog really explains all of what has happend to me since I have been doing this for the last 3 days.

Miracles and wonders and transformations in my relaionships

Do you feel you are growing spiritually now?A. Why?

B. I have grown spiritually within this past month. It was a process of dying to my flesh. It was a process of saying no to myself and what I wanted to do to make myself feel good and saying yes to God and allowing Him to make me fee good in His own way. A. Why do I feel I grew spiritually? In the end I leaned & asked God how can I fulfill my flesh in a way which is pleasing to Him and He told me to line up each of my thoughts to be obedient to HIm, and comment my way to His ways, and to my will to his will. In the end although my flesh hurt, I leaned so much about God and so much about wining and completing God plans through HIM, thank you my dear God!!!

sp if ypu don't see my reponse to what you rote I am sorry. I wanted to say it was great awesone, and very good. Thank you ALL, every did a FANTASTIC JOB!!!

I am sorry that i have not been here. I intended on being back here sooner, and time just got away from me. I will start me replies now and then after I am done I will add another question.

Rick (FILLANGES) wrote:

"This is TRULY what Spiritual growth is all about. More and more revelation and knowledge of God's Word, More and more reliance on God and His Word. More and more TRUST in God and His Word. More and more of God, Jesus, and the Holy Ghost, and less and less of US! In everything we do and say!" I agree with you so much. It is when we have the three within us God, Jesus , & the Holy Spirit, that we are the most complete and grow in such wonderful ways. As we seek God we have more revelation, reliance on Him, and we learn to trust Him in new and powerful ways, because He begins to live in us in more powerful ways. This happens because we have allowed HIm to enter our lives in more powerful ways through spending more time in prayer, His word, and through our reliance upon Him! Thank so much for sharing with us Rick!
"I believe Spiritual growth is a continual process, as we grow in Christ. Being able to heed the Holy Spirit's directing our lives and truly leaning NOT to our own understanding. BOBBIENORTHERN1:
"Spiritual growth is being transformed each day more and more into the image and likeness of Jesus Himself and walking in all of the fruit of the spirit which is in 1 Corinthians 13 and having love as the driving force behind all that I do" I love what you wrote!

"I think spiritual growth is when we go through a similiar situation (and we will) we have actually learned to trust God more than the time before. We have learned God is in control and we must take something to Him and leave it there. We must not look at the situation and despair. It is temporary!
I am going through a situation that I am trying to remember all this that I have learned about how God is faithful. Those that I have committed to Him; He is taking care of them... God's Word enlightening me with a truth I did not see or understand before is a way of growth that is given so graciously to us by the Holy Spirit. Spiritual growth is realizing how much We Can't Do This On Our Own. How Jesus did it all for us and how much He loves us. It is also realizing He has placed other believers in our life to help us also and encourage us in our Spiritual Growth. Our testimonies spur one another on to do more, love more, and realize the deeper walk the Lord has for each of us." I agree with what you said. It is in our trut tht we grow to rely and through our faith we REALLY triust gd. We can not pray and tell people we truth God and then worry until the circumstance has passed. thank you so much for opening you heart us and sharing with us!

An exciting place of learning winning techniques to successfully engage in spiritual warfare. It is a beautiful place of discovery that occurs one prayer, one act of obedience, one act of faith at a time." What else could one add to this. what you tped is just lovely, taking God's hand and walking by his side, and growing a long the way. thank for sharing.

YATMAMA:
"Spiritual growth, to me, is the process of Jesus making all things new within me; of the Holy Spirit brooding over the areas of me that are still void and without form, and creating me and recreating me into a vessel of honor unto the Lord's good pleasure; of God renewing me by the washing of the water of the word, bringing me from faith unto faith unto faith, unto His glory" I love what you wrote. From faith unto faith unyo faithunto His glory!!!.

BARBARAWEBSTER:
"I haven't read the other answers, but last week I would have had a totally different answer than today. Today I know that I have grown spiritually because my faith has changed. I used to think, "just because you need it, doesn't mean you will get it". Now I know better. I am seeing how God is supplying my needs every day as I walk along with Him by my side. It's amazing and awesome! I no longer have a "Life is Hopeless" attitude! It's wonderful to not only Feel the presence of God, but to SEE it." Yeh, amen Barbra, to see him is a blessing, and to know HIm though our faith is through spitiual growth. Great!!!!

That is such an awesome way to handle things. It can be so easy to say things without thinking, and that is never a good thing to do. Praying FIRST is the best way to handle everything.

Marcy, I didn't see where you said anything out of line at all. And I love what you said. I just prayed on the way home from the grocery that God would turn all of my complaints into praise and faith and praise. It is so easy for me to fuss about someone driving like a crazy person. Today I have made a conscious effort to pray over that person instead of complaining.

My spiritual growth resides very much in changing my unhappiness into requests.
Only the Lord can make our lives happy and fulfilled, but I forget it all the time, and my life ends up in mysery.
Asking the Lord, praising Him and waiting on Him is really what changes my day.
PS Pls Shelly tell me if I said something wrong.

Spiritual growth is something that takes time. When you discover that you are craving more and more time in prayer, and in reading the Bible, and also discover that in new situations that arise, you run to God FIRST, you know you are growing. When you find yourself bringing your thoughts back to God's Word, and really trying to do things that are pleasing to Him, you know you are growing Spiritually. When God's opinion is the only one that matters (over the opinions of others,) it is further evidence of that Spiritual growth. When you find you are runnning Scripture, Sermons, Hymns and praise songs through your mind, you know you are experiencing Spiritual growth. When the thought of doing anything to hurt God brings you to tears, then to your knees to ask His forgiveness. you know you have grown Spiritually.

I think there is so much to it; not just one or two different things, but when you begin to see fruit in your life, it is evidence of that Spiritual growth.

Growing spiritually is when you are renewing your mind. Much like you renew your mind about food as you are trying to change your lifestyle so too must we renew our minds about and with God.

One time I was talking to God and he told me that as I grow closer to Him my mind has gone through this renewal progression. He told me just kike by eating correctly you will nourish your body, thinking differently, obeying me, and changing through your actions, all these things and more, you are renewing your mind. These are additional thoughts of what I think it means to grow spiritually:

~ Reading the bible and making it part of my lifestyle. Really reading the words, not rushing through them. Meditating on the words, and thinking about what you read after you finished reading the bible. Allowing what you have read to mold your thoughts and the way you act.

~ Surrendering to God. Doing what He wants you to do instead of what you want to do in all areas of your life.

~ Asking yourself what would God do in this situation, and then applying it through your words and actions. As you do this you need to pray for His guidance and ask Him to help you think as He does, talk like He would, and act as He could.

~ Praying more often. Increasing the length of time that you pray. Praying against temptation, and praying that God helps you to grow closer to Him, and then doing the work it takes to get yourself there.

~ Glorifying God through volunteer work and helping others in any way you can. Sharing with others about what God has done for you. We are here to glorify God every day!

~ You are growing spiritually when you give more of your money away to a church and or a charity, and not claiming it on your taxes.

~ Growing through your circumstances’ & asking yourself these questions like:
*God how can I grow from what I am experiencing?
*How can I use this to depend more on you God during this time?
*God what do I need to learn while I am dealing with this?

I don't want to waste being in pain, or struggling in anyway, so at some point in these last two years I thought up those questions to ask myself so I can make the most of the circumstance I was going through. In the end, by asking myself these questions and God supplying the answers, I have grown closer to God, and have grown as a Christian, and also been victorious through God.

We are all a work in progress. Doing the things I wrote about takes time. It is important to be patient with yourself. Just as it is better to lose weight over time, instead of all at once, it is better to grow and change spiritually over a period of time. All changes happen through your relationship with God. I think God makes sure it takes a while so we realize it was done through Him, that it was nothing we did at all except put in the time and effort that it took to grow closer to him and grow spiritually through Him.

emoticon I was just writing on discipleship from a flawed in your face, keeping it real, totally non-religious point of view. I will share some of my main points.

Spiritual growth to me is a dying process the day that I look in the mirror and see none of me and all of him then I know I have arrived. From my view point I have just begun to fight.

It is a narrow road of inconvenience, a painful place of obedience, a liberating place of peace within my spirit. A joyful place of communion with the Father. A sacrificial place of denying myself. A scary place of learning to trust. A lonely place of taking a stand. An exciting place of learning winning techniques to successfully engage in spiritual warfare.

It is a beautiful place of discovery that occurs one prayer, one act of obedience, one act of faith at a time.

I think spiritual growth is when we go through a similiar situation (and we will) we have actually learned to trust God more than the time before. We have learned God is in control and we must take something to Him and leave it there. We must not look at the situation and despair. It is temporary!
I am going through a situation that I am trying to remember all this that I have learned about how God is faithful. Those that I have committed to Him; He is taking care of them.
Many years ago, when something happened with my son I would put eyes on him and worry and worry. I try to let him know we love him but being healthy spiritually, physically and mentally I must pray and trust in the Lord with all my heart.
There are ways we show our spiritual growth this is just a testing for me right now.
Our testimonies spur one another on to do more, love more, and realize the deeper walk the Lord has for each of us.

I believe Spiritual growth is a continual process, as we grow in Christ. Being able to heed the Holy Spirit's directing our lives and truly leaning NOT to our own understanding. Being willing to be different from the world and nourish the spirit within us that allows others to be drawn to the Lord. For me, it's at times, being alone to hear what the Holy Ghost is placing in my spirit for God's good.

Thank you for the thought provoking question. I am reminded of this scripture. Job 32:8 "But there is a spirit in man and the inspiration of the almighty giveth them understanding."

Just as the physical body needs nourishment to grow, so does the spiritual body. The seeds of faith, hope, charity and an eye single to the glory of God, are already within us at birth. To grow spiritually is to grow in all these areas as well as any other that the Lord sees fit that we need to grow in. Maybe it is trust in Him. Maybe it is patience which is part of charity.

As we search ponder and pray about the Holy Scriptures, we place ourselves in the position, even at the table of the Lord, to receive all the nourishment we need and more in order to grow to become like Him. Through His grace (divine means of help or strength, given through the bounteous mercy and love of Jesus Christ) His table is spread with blessings unmeasured.

"Now, faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen." Heb. 11:1

In my experience, spiritual growth is very general. We are made of mind, body and spirit, and our spirits can go in many directions, sometimes in very dark directions.

So I like to make a distinction (and you may have done this, too, Shelly--forgive me if I missed it) and call it Spiritual growth, with a capital "S." In this case, Spiritual growth is your growth in the Holy Spirit. Jesus told His disciples that when He left, the Holy Spirit would come and comfort them and teach them all things.

When I let go and let God take over, I grow Spiritually. When I decide to forgo certain earthly pleasures to be intentionally in His presence, I grow Spiritually. When I decided that the Bible was true (which was when we were living in Chicago, by the way) I grew Spiritually.

Spiritual growth is an exciting adventure! It is a time to join God in His work and see His power. (Thank you Henry Blackaby for putting those thoughts from God in a clear way!)

Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out! (Romans 11:32-34) That He allows us to be in His presence is amazing enough!

Claire

"Never, never, never give up." -Winston Churchill

Do it now!

A bad attitude is like a flat tire. If you don't change it, you'll never go anywhere.

"God is going to do things His way, or He'll do things His way! The question is how much time we want to waste kicking and screaming in between." - Beth Moore

TO me spiritual growth is leaning on God's everlasting word and living life in a manner which God would see fitting. Living your life to your fullest and sharing the words God gave us to keep him in our daily task and not let nah sayers remove him from the public! Be proud to share your life with him you could not ask for a better friend!!! For it is through him that we learn to be the best that we can be and accept ourselves for who we are!!!!

God will be with us till the end!!!

When I pray and give thanks to God for all my blessings...and when I struggle to help me overcome the obstacles in my life...and to ask me for guidance.

What do you believe is spiritual growth is?

I can only answer this question through what I know from my past and through how my relationship with God has grown. I have learned that spiritual growth never ends and brings us into The Life that God died to give us.

I started to grow the most spiritually by surrendering to God, but my story starts back when I was just a little gir.l It started by doing things for other people that seemed weird to me, yet I did them anyway. I remember doing things like acts of kindness, but believe me a saint I was not!

You grow spiritually in so many ways I could not list them all and I hope we get a lot of different answers here.

WHAT IS SPIRITUAL GROWTH?

~ Learning from the past and growing into a better person

Can you look back from last year and realize you are talking better, doing more of the correct behavior, or growing closer to God? If you said yes to any of the above questions you are growing spiritually.

I am going to be listing a few spiritual questions these next few weeks here and my desire is that you grow in your walk with god through answering these questions. Answer them here, write them out, or think them out, I don't care, just answer them.
