this is very true shelly we cannot hold the on to the old self and yet be with God fully. i can honestly say this because i have been doing just that and i can no longer do it. that is why i have to change my life style around and let go and let GOD if i want to change. I have to be able to do this otherwise the devil has a hold on me and i don't like it that way. I have to be willing to change or nothing will change.
I know Shelly, I already got plugged into his blogs and have just been eating them up. LOL
Today I read a new member's blog titled-Keep Your Breastplate On can be read through clicking on the link below:
Within Kent's blog he asked two questions:
Are you trying to use the sword of the Spirit? How can you hold it when unholiness has seriously maimed the hand of faith that must carry it? .~William Gurnall
Kent, this blog is very thought provoking. You asked, are you trying to use the sword of the Spirit and, how can you hold it when unholieness has maimed your hand of faith which must hold? I read the Armor of God each day out loud, and I know it protects me through God. I have been through a continued Spiritual journey most of my life. To answer your questions I will share this with you:
To me the sword of the Spirit is the word of God, because it states in the bible in the armor of God that it is so. Ephesians 6:12-18 Within these verses it states "... Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the spirit which is the word of God..." When we are wrapped in sin it can effect our entire life from our words through our thoughts and worked out through our actions. It is a sad and an awful place to be. It can, and sometimes does stop us from moving forward spiritually. I have been in this place before in my life, but I am grateful to God I have not stayed there for very long.
If the sword of the Spirit is God's word, and the hand of faith is what you stand on, your faith maintains your balance and sustains you. Let me add this to my explanation. I strive to live a holy life and do many things to enable myself to do so, all of these things include God. In my past there have been times I messed up. I allowed myself to be lured into things which were not of God. My spirit suffered as a result. During some of these times I allowed God to help me through my sin and bring me out of it and back to Him.
You asked, are you trying to use the sword of the Spirit, and how can you hold it when unholieness has mained your hand which holds it? I think many people are trying to use the sword of the Spirit while living in their flesh and trying to at the same time serve God. You can not bring God to His complete glory living in two different worlds, living two different lives.
The only way you can be injured and yet move forward in any way is through God and in His power. By staying in prayer, by talking to God, by reading the bible, through asking for his help He empowers us through HIs Holy Spirit. If you are using the sword of the Spirit to me it means you are using God's word to help other people, and help yourself. In my opinion, using the sword of the Spirit is using the bible to serve others in all ways. You can only hold the sword of the Spirit with a mained hand by healing your hand first. It is coming to God and asking for His help that we can hold onto anything while we are injured. We must be healed through His Spirit. As you are healed we become strong again, and we resist temptation, our thoughts become better, our words start to represent God, and our actions demonstrate this. This is the process which takes place while God heals us, and makes us His again.
After we have come to Jesus and as God heals us and we accept it through our actions we not only become stronger, we are able to change our lives because during this time we are holding up the sword with mighty hands no longer wounded. The wounds have become an armor of defense, and stay in place without slipping. We hold up the sword and it is God's words that maintain our actions. It is through His Holy Spirit we seek, and it is through His Holy Spirit we are made brand new.
