Shelly, what a hugely important point you make! God knows us so well. He loves us SO much. There is no reason to pretend we are somewhere we aren't. I have stood before God, holding onto destructive things, sinful things, crying before Him, telling Him I did not have what it took to let them go, asking Him to take them from me or to give me the strength and courage to surrender them to Him. He KNEW I couldn't do it on my own. He assured me that apart from Jesus, I can do NOTHING. See? He was not at ALL surprised that I couldn't surrender some things to Him. He KNEW it would take HIS strength to make me able to learn how to deny myself daily, take up my cross, and follow Jesus. Tell Him about whatever it is that holds you back... He knows already!! Talk to Him about it. He understands. And He loves, loves, LOVES to teach us His word that sets us free.

We are to hide God's word in our heart and Holy Spirit will bring it to our rememberance but if we don't study God's word how can we hide word or the Holy Spirit bring it to our rememberance?
That sounds pretty straight forward but it is a little more complicated than that; that is a beginning but God teaches us in so many ways. Our walk is our testimony and with Christ in us we are showing God's word to others by our actions. We see others walking in the Lord and their walk encourages us to believe and have faith for more.
Our heart condition towards the Lord produces the benefits of studying Gods word. There is nothing more exciting that seeing something new and a fresh in the Word of God.
Sharing with one another a gem from God's word stirs us on to good works and faith building.
I love this team sharing prayer requests, testimonies and teaching. Lord bless you Shelly and Missy for the great job you do as team leaders.

Margaret (Groves) and Missy (Yatamama) you know, when I prayed and asked God to help me find a bible that I needed I also prayed for Him to help me love HIs words and at one point I also asked HIm bring about a passion for it. It was all a process.

There was a time when I used to go on vacation and leave my bible at home. Reading the bible became part of my life, but at that time it was not part of my lifestyle. I want to make this point, I feel that you should never be put to shame that you are not at a certain place with God, or that you don't know this, that, or the other spiritually. But, always be moving forward, always be reaching for more, also be doing what it takes to learn more about the bible, to grow spiritually in every way possible. That is what I want for this team, as well as meeting your healthy fitness goals.

With Gods help I have a passion for the bible and I can not imagine not reading it throughout my week. I take it to the gym, while I am on vacation, and when I go to doctor appointments. I would rather read the bible more than any other thing, and I feel that is what happens sometimes to people when God gets involved with you changing while you are asking Him to help you.

Margaret, it's the same for me. I just get blown away by the fact that I can read the same passage for decades, and then BAM, I see something new in it. That's the revelation power of the Holy Spirit. How thankful I am that Jesus sent us the Comforter who leads us and guides us into all truth!!

I think that's why we are told Jesus is the Living Word, Shelly. It really IS all about relationship, fellowship, intimacy with God. As I said, Satan and many people know the bible and know it well, but without applying it and the heart of God, which is love, to their lives, it is not the Living Word within them.

I started writing this post because I wanted to share with you that I don't know the bible as well as I would like to. I thank God for what He gives me through the Holy Spirit, and the relationship we share. I do not know all the things I want to learn about the bible, but one thing I DO know, I will get there.

I will take the time it requires. I will learn the things I need to learn, and I pray for God's guidance through it.

For me it all started with getting a bible I felt comfortable with. There are so many versions of the bible. I told God, ok, I will read the bible all the way through, but I need something I can read. God please give me a bible that I can see well enough. and one I can really understand. Well, two to three months later I was in a book store called, Books a Million, and I wasn't even looking for a bible, but I found one perfect for me and it was even on sale!!! ISN'T THAT JUST LIKE Go?

I will be honest and tell you sometimes while I am writing things for this team I want to quote the bible, I know what it says, but I want a quote from the bible next to my words. However I don't know the bible well enough to find it, and most times I can not find it in else where as well.

Really, I almost want to say to know God i feel is more important than knowing the bible, but I can't and won't say that. No matter how well you know God you have to know the bible as well. It is our foundation. We must know God's ways through the bible. It is our truth. How do you REALLY know God if you don't know the bible as well?

So, I am writing this to encourage you to take the time as I am doing to study the bible. I started writng notes in a note book and I started reading the bible over again. I will be reading the bible until I die. I have been reading it since I was a teenager and I see no reason to ever stop reading the bible.

So, one of these days I am going to know more, and I WILL make the most of it!

I have been with the Lord for 35yrs now and have read the bible many times over and its amazing every time I read I receive something new or something pops out at me that I have read over and over again and the Lord gives me a new revelation about. I not only read the bible but I study it, I pick a topic where I may be struggling and I go to the word, the word has been life saving for me and through the years the Lord has taught me in the book of James especially to not only read the word but to do it.

James 1:22-24
But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
23For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: 24For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.

I found that doing the word in my life has brought blessing after blessing there were times it was difficult to do the word because of the flesh but the word stands true to what it says and I have learned to trust it and lean upon it. The Holy Spirit in all his magnificence has always brought the word back to my remembrance exactly at the time Ive needed it. I find myself quoting scriptures that I didnt think I knew so for me its been exciting to study and read the word of God for the Lord tells us to always be ready with an answer because you never know who or when the Lord will use you to talk with someone about him.

Through the years I have read about four different versions of the bible, one being the king James version. As I write things for this team I sometimes use a web site called biblegateway.com I sometimes read things in the bible and then use my husband's bible- the King James , or this web site, and read it from the kind James version.

I was going to and will touch upon different versions of the bible in a later post. I think I will end up posting about 4-5 additional posts on this subject. I will say now, that I enjoying reading all different kinds of versions of the bible, but just like 4 so far. I know the truths of the bible, the things I learned through the king James bible, you know what i mean right?

Even Satan knows the word of God, Shelly (and not the KJV, but as spoken by God Himself). What he (and some people) lack is revelation of the Word and it's practical application to our lives. The Holy Spirit reveals truth to even those who have no bible, let alone a specific version. Knowing the words of God but not the heart and nature of God makes for a lot of hardness and hardship. Knowing every word my husband has ever said but never having touched him, been in his arms, spending time with him such that I know what he likes and dislikes, enjoying his nearness... well, that wouldn't make much of a marriage. It is much the same with our Beloved, to whom we are betrothed. The Pharisees new every letter of the law but knew not grace. Sad. Very sad.

VERY Thought provoking Shell.....One thing I have learned is the VERSION one uses makes a BIG difference. Reading John McTernan's blog, he points out the ERRORS of all other version against the KJB. I have not used the NIV myself, as I knew before it is a very corrupt version.....when you learn what is MISSING, it is very upsetting. AND it has been revised now to be gender neutral....so much for political correctness. Where is GOD in all of this????

God's word is infallable....unchangeable, and complete in the KJB!!!!!

Study DOES open ones eyes!!!!

Really, until a few years ago, like about three two and half years ago I was unaware why it was so important to read the bible. You see, I have always had such a close relationship with God. We started talking to each other when I was nine years old. A few years ago God started pressing me about reading the bible. Now, I will be honest with you and tell you I resisted, I reasoned with God, and I questioned HIm. I said, "Come on God, why is it so important i read the bible. We talk all the time. We have such a good relationship, why is it so important to read the bible?" Well, He started telling me, why, and He started talking through Joyce Meyer and explaining to me why He wanted me to read the bible.

I sometimes read the bible in my 20's and 30's but it was not part of my life, or lifestyle. I read the bible maybe 10 times in my 20's and probably 50 times in my mid 30's. I am 42 and it was only a year ago and a half ago I read it all the way through. I started to read it throughout my week out of obedience more than anything else. I wasn't sure why God felt it was so important I read it more until I started doing it. I realized finally why God was trying to add this book into part of my daily life. Through reading the bible I began to feel God's power in a different way. I was put on this earth to help other people learn more about God, and grow closer to HIm. GuH, I don't know why it took me so long to realize it. How can I teach people about God, and lead people closer to God to their fullest compacity without reading the bible and making it part of my daily life? I am a slow learner sometimes, but when I finally get it I make something great out of it. I take the knowledge I have and become a success, and use it to it's fullest capacity.

Missy, I think there are people who know the bible very well, but don't know God at all, and others who who God very well, but don't know the bible, and then there are those who have done the work, and know God and the bile very well, yet have not relationship with God because they feel they have done enough. It is only chose who are blessed and hard who God, the bible, and have an intimate relationship with God. These people, the ones who have achieved all three thing live an abundant life. They have kept God first in every aspect of their life. I am part way there, and try very hard to achieve all three.

DAISY I agree with you, there is a great beauty within the texts, and as you said, "A simplicity that quickly taken to heart and a depth that unfolds for each of us." I try to take what I have learned from the bible, and from what I have learned about life and apply it to words on this team page. It is unnecessary to complicate the things which are in the bible. You also said that a knowledge of the Biblical contents is the basis for understanding the depth and richness of our spiritual inheritance. I agree with that too. I have found sometimes that I have understood what I have read in the bible only because of God. Though HIs Spirit He has brought me great understanding & meaning of His words. I can only thank and praise God for this. When a person is from God and serves God, he blessed, this person brings God's knowledge to others. I am grateful for the people God has brought into my life who have taught me things about HIm and the bible.

Readings are important, I agree. A knowledge of the Biblical contents is the basis for understanding the depth and richness of our spiritual inheritance. Yet I find, sometimes, we have a tendency to heap complexity upon each and every verse. When I look at the gospel accounts it is apparent the message of Christ is easily understood by academics of the day as well as children. This is a great beauty within the texts, a simplicity that is quickly taken to heart and a depth that unfolds for each of us.

I am going to break this up into sections. As some of you know I can really wrIte, and many of my posts are LONG! So, if this post interests you come back and look for this emotion emoticon which will indicate a new section of my post

emoticon How well do you know the bible?

Think about the bible and how well you know it. Can you list most or all of the books of the bible, the main stories in the old testament? ?Do you know any verse that you can quote? Now think of the things you may watch on TV. How much can you tell me about your favorite Tv shows, and the characters on these shows. Hmmmmm.... something to think about.

You know it is important to read the bible, but I feel it is just as important to know God, I mean really know him. I mean, like have an intimate relationship with God.

I have a lot to learn about the bible. I have read the bible, the whole thing, but there is so much I need to learn. I can talk about the stories in the old testament, but I am fuzzy about some of the names. I know a lot if things about the bible, but can not tell you where to find things in the bible.
