something to think about:

There are times when I pray & a period of time passes. I know God has heard my prayer, yet the surface of my circumstance or someone else’s has stayed the same. Years may pass, yet I know through my faith God has heard my prayers, and I know that in some form and way He has responded. Sometimes I need help. I ask God to help me & others who need His extra care, and reassurance. Although this does not always happen there have been times in my life after requesting prayers for myself or others years pass without any surface change within the circumstance, and I have said, "When God when.... when will this situation change, when will your progress be made?" It has been through my acceptance to submit to God's time and through my faith in knowing His time is always perfect that I am brought back to peace. As I have grown within my walk with God I have learned it is an act of love & faith to thank God for answered prayer even before it has come to pass or real change has been made. We are to continue praying, making our wants and needs known to God. However, we must always give thanks within our prayers, and we must also know God has answered our prayers even if we can not see God's results.

I am taking a break. I have not taken a break from the team in a year. God has put in my heart to take a break for a few weeks now. I have been resisting because I was planning some things out for the meet and greet party we will be having next year in June 2012.

I do not know when I will be back on the team. However, know that should not be gone for more than three weeks. If three weeks passes and I still am resting with God I will post something on this team.

It is important for me to rest within God as I lead this team with Missy. To be your leader and lead this team with the heart I receive form God this break must be taken once a year.

Love you all and will miss you!

Missy what you quoted about prayer, I feel deep within me. I have prayed to God as I wrote things re. prayer, and I am so grateful that He has helped me with it. Thank you for adding that quote, it just completes what i feel in my heart!emoticon

CHANNYLEE when i read what you wrote what came to my mind was that as we change our bodies and become more fit we should also remember that God wants us to also develop our spiritual muscle and grow strong with God in our faith.emoticon

Shelly, when I read this quote today, it SO reminded me of your teachings on prayer. I shared it in our motivational quotes thread, but I wanted to post it here, as well:

The discussion of prayer is so great that it requires the Father to reveal it, His firstborn Word to teach it, and the Spirit to enable us to think and speak rightly of so great a subject. -- Origen

Thanks for your comment and your honesty. I believe many people can say that they have been where you are, and honestly we all have been educated beyond our obedience to God at sone time or another. We are all on a different path, a different journey with God. We are all learning the same and yet different things about God. I believe that what matters more than where we are with God is that we just keep moving forward, ya know what I mean?

God never wants us to be settled with where we are with Him, I mean, He wants us to be comfortable with Him, but not to the point where we stop growing, stop discovering and learning things about him. I frequently pray to God that I don't ever become complacent about the words I read in the bible, that I am always renewed by His Holy Spirit, always growing and never stagnate in any way in my spirituality.

SLS-NY2IN as long as we are growing, as long as we are trying out best God will do the rest as we rest within hIm and do our part by keeping hIm first in out lives, and staying "awake". I smiled when I saw you here on this thread, so nice to see you here.emoticon

This got me thinking of prayer times in the past and the Now! God knows what I need and is so faithful. This reminded me that I have let down on believing that prayers have been answered already. That praise for answered prayer follows prayer until we see it happen.
Lord may all I "know" start to "show" in my actions. I have learned so much over the years but using it has fallen so far short of what God has revealed.

I love to pray it comforts me and brings me peace knowing that Jesus hears and answers me. He has taught me to be patient and that there are 3 answers he gives YES, NO, and NOT NOW. I have learned in his NOT NOW or NO answers that he is strengthening me, preparing me, planning for me and that his timing is always perfect. It has taught me to grow and mature as a woman of God and Im so thankful for his patience with me. To pray is to converse and communicate with God. This includes silent prayer because God knows our thoughts, it also includes journaling which I love to do and prayer also includes listening to God and this is how you build a relationship with God.

The result is that as Christians he sent the Holy Spirit to live in us and God the Holy Spirit enables us and empowers us to pray. We are to go to him as Father, Dad.. you don’t have to be formal or religious in your speaking he’s your DAD!! That’s why we can go to his throne boldly, Dad listens, Dad cares, Dads good, Dads available go talk to him.

Prayer isnt telling God something he doesn’t know he already knows hes not shocked at it he wants you to come talk to him about it. Its about him loving you, teaching you, helping you, walking with you, serving you and instructing you. He wants to be involved in your life and for you to trust him. Go to the Father and talk it through, build that relationship with him. Prayer is to the Father through the Son Jesus Christ.

1 Timothy 2:5
“For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus.”

Apart from Jesus our prayers are ineffective we pray through Jesus he forgives us, he loves us, he takes away our sins, we can pray to the Father through the Son by the power of God the Holy Spirit, I love the Holy Spirit he teaches us to pray.

Luke 11:1,13b
“One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.” 13b “How much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”

The Holy Spirit dwelling in me taught me how to pray next thing I know I’m talking to God going for walks chatting with Jesus, God here’s what Im thinking heres what Im dealing with and Im talking to God. Its not that I took a class on prayer or knew all about prayer its that the Holy Spirit was teaching me how to pray.

Galatians 4:6
Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba Father.”

If Jesus prayed we need to pray let him teach you through the Holy Spirit…I can tell you its AWESOME talking to my Father he is so loving, kind and generous to us…I cant imagine spending one day without talking to my ABBA FATHER!!

Much love to all

Now that I have written out my post I can reply to my friends who have left comments.

Griff
I love what you wrote. My heart was filled as I read your words. I thank and praise God that I have a relationship with God. It is through his blessing that I have the relationship that I possess with HIm.

SLS-NY2IN
I am glad that you joined us and took the time to catch up. I am sorry that I have kept you and the others waiting so long, yet as I type out my words I know I honored God as I waited for HIm. It was hard to wait for Him, but as I waited He showed me the verses to include in my post and filled me with peace.

ALPHABITCH
I have prayed for your son, and praise you for continuing to try to show your son God through your actions, and try to find new ways he will accept God.

Missy (Yatmama)
So good to see you here. Thanks for sharing.

emoticon WAITING FOR GOD TO ANSWER OUR PRAYERS

I have been doing a study on prayer. I talked to you about when your will is not God’s will in my last post. Now I want to share with you my views on waiting for God to answer our prayer/s.

It says in John 15:7- 8 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.

I encourage you to think about what you want in your life, and pray for it. If it is God’s will more often than not God will bring His glory out your prayer. Your joy will not only fulfill you but also fulfill and bring joy to God as well!

After we have prayed for God to answer our prayers we have to realize that He will answer and fulfill our prayer in HIS time NOT in our time. I believe that it takes spiritual maturity to wait patiently for God to answer our prayers.

I believe there are certain things God wants us to do as we want for our prayers to be answered.

1. GOD WANTS US TO BELIEVE HE ANSWERED OUR PRAYER

God wants us to ask for our heart’s desire and then put our faith into action by believing He has given our prayer life. When I pray about something I tell people God has answered my prayer. Most of you know that I fell many months ago and injured my knees pretty badly. I prayed that God would heal them in a very aggressive way, making my legs stronger than they previously had been. After as I said this prayer I believed in my heart God answered my prayer.

2. GOD WANTS US TO ACT OUT OUR FAITH

Mark 11:24

… Whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

After I prayed about my knees and legs I wrote about my prayer to God to this team and told my friends & family members, and this team that God had healed my knees & would completely reduce the swelling, and restore my legs to an increased mount of strength. I fell four months ago. I know that the healing began right after I said my prayer, yet I was hurting very badly inside my body. I have yet to see a huge amount of swelling become reduced, but I know in God’s time the swelling will disappear. God wants us to pray and then before it has been given to you proclaim its truth to everyone you know. That is faith!

3. GOD WANTS US TO ENJOY THE RIDE

Philippians 4: 6-7
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

God wants us to enjoy our life in every way. When we ask for a prayer to be fulfilled He doesn’t want us to be miserable until it happens. We are to be patient, and exhibit our faith by having peace while we wait for God to answer our prayers. Listen, I know this is not always easy to do, but as we lean on and rely on God IT CAN BE DONE. I know this because I waited three years for God to manifest His healing in my eyes. I could have gone blind, but He had healed me the day he told me He healed my eyes, however, His time table was three years for both of my eyes to be completely healed.

4. EXPRESS YOUR GRATITUDE

Philippians 4: 6
… with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

We are to tell God thank you before we see in reality our prayers being met. Think about all the people you say thank you to in your life. I bet sometimes you tell strangers thank you. Doesn’t God deserve your thanks as well? One of the things my mom taught me as I was growing up was to say thank you for answered prayer, but it says in Philippians 4: 6 that we are to give thanks to God as we ask for our needs to be met.

So far I have shared with you that I believe that God wants us to behave in a certain manner as we wait for unanswered prayer. I have told you: God wants us to believe our prayer was answered, to act out our faith, to enjoy our lives while we wait for God, and also as we do these things to give thanks to God. After we have gone these things there is one more very important thing I feel we must do.

5. BRING GLORY TO GOD

The bible tells us we are to bring glory to God. What better way to bring glory to God than by proclaiming your answered prayer to others. God has granted you a blessing now share it with the world! I have shared many things and different ways God has blessed me and my life. It brings me great joy to share God with others any way I can. I encourage you to do the same. You may feel uncomfortable the first time you share with others in this way, but I promise you as you continue to glorify God, and share how He has blessed your life, doing so will fill you with joy which you have never experienced before. Don’t you see, we were wired for this kind of stuff? One of the reasons we were put on this earth was to bring glory to God. I get excited just typing it out! As we bring glory to God He starts to bless us in His special ways and our life is given new meaning.

6. ACCEPTING GOD'S DECISION

Part of praying for anything is being willing to accept God's will in the end, as well as how and when God decides to answer our prayers. I think that many times God answers our prayers, yet sometimes the result is very different than what we wanted or expected. God healed my eyes, yet I see colors as the result of the amount of vision I lost. In fact many years after my eyes were healed I had serious problems for many years that followed. I remember thinking, man, this was not how I thought God was going to heal my eyes. I in fact thought that when the healing was completed my vision would have been just as good as it previously was or better. It was hard to go through all the I did back then, but the blessings, and intimacy I developed with God as the result of that time in my life was worth every tear, and all the pain, and vision loss I suffered. In fact I would do it all over again! You see, I trust that God knows what is best for me. I accepted whatever God's will was when I found out something was seriously wrong with my eyes from the beginning. Because I trusted, relied, and accepted God's will He brought countless blessings into my life as the result of my circumstance. It is very important to accept God's will and to praise God no matter how or when He answers our prayer/s.

My prayer is that this study has blessed you in a special way. That you do not only read my words but that you are filled by God as you do so. I pray and wish that you do not see me at all but only are blinded by God and His Spirit. That you are completely overfilled with His understanding, love, grace, and joy.

Dear God thank you so much for helping me to write this out. I received such joy writing your words, and I just thank you with all of my heart and soul. I love you so much and it is only through you that I can do anything. In Jesus name I pray amen.

In my next post I will write about God answering our prayers. I hope that you are doing well, and have a wonderful day!

Hi everyone! It has been hard to stay away from this study I started. I have never done a study and then waited so long in between before writing each time. However, I wanted to only write as I have been led by God to do so, and concerning this study He has taken His time to instruct me to what He wants me to share with you. I can only write as I do when God and I write things out together. I believe God has given me a talent for writing, but the things I write about Him I know only comes from HIm...it is really not me, and I will never take credit for that. So, I have stayed away in an act of obedience, because if I write a study about Him I want it to be from HIm and His Spirit. I plan on coming back at some time later in the day. I believe I have all that God wants me to share with you about the next subject, which is, waiting for prayer, I just don't have enough time at this very moment to write it all out now.

I don't even have time to respond to the comments you have left, but I want to say thank you all for sharing, and writing what you have. I love you all very much!emoticonemoticon

Griff, now that three of our four kids are out on their own, I can truly relate to God watching and waiting for us, His kids, to call out to Him, include Him in our lives, share the events of our everyday lives with Him on a consistent basis, remind Him of our love and appreciation. One phone call from my kids makes my day. God created us for fellowship. He had a desire to be known and heard. We, created in His image, naturally feel the same way. That is so important in our earth relationships and vitally so in our relationship with our Beloved. Thank you for this powerful and sweet reminder!

Hey Everyone...Shelly thank you so much for this thread prayer is so important I pray all day long and I have learned what it means to pray without ceasing, what a joy and a privledge it is to me to talk to my Heavenly Father anytime of my day.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

"Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you."

I must have read this verse a thousand times and for the first time the phrase "for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you". I said to myself WOW!! this is the WILL OF GOD for my life..then I dug a little deeper

Psalms 8: 1,3-4
O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?

Who are we that he is even mindful of us? Wow who wouldnt want to pray? Consider it the heavens that God has made the work of his fingers, the moon and everything else who in the world wouldnt want to talk to him? Think about when you are praying who are you praying to? You're praying to GOD!! THE CREATOR OF THE WHOLE UNIVERSE!!!

That just blows my mind...think about it for just a moment and...AND HE IS MINDFUL OF US!!! He wants to spend to with us isnt that mind blowing? He loves you and he wants to spend time with you...yes YOU!! and me so I ask you who in the world wouldnt want to pray to God? This is ONE on ONE time with the creator of the universe and he wants to hear from you and I..Tell him about your day and all you are going through, and all the people in your lives and how you are feeling...to have a healthy relationship we need to communicate with one another right? Its the same with God he waits all day waiting for us to talk to him.

There are times when I think God is saying to himself...I would really love to hear from my daughter/son today, I wonder if he/she will just take one moment of his/her day to say hello to me...Well its noon now still havent heard from him/her maybe he/she will talk to me when he/she gets home..well its night now I wonder if he/she will tell me about their day before they go to sleep...I would really love to hear from my children why? because he loves you just that much..he wants you to share your day with him...hes our Heavenly Father lets get back to prayer just like a little child talking to their daddy...

2 Chronicles 7:14
"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."

My Father
Thank you for loving us the way you do, thank you that you want to spend time with us...Father I ask that my brothers/sisters here would be mindful of how much you want to hear from them in there joys, there sorrows, there concerns, you want to hear it all because your our Father, our "ABBA DADDY" how I love that you are MINDFUL of us you are so aware of us, you know us better than anyone even ourselves. So my Father here I am asking you, spending time with you, loving you and thanking you for who you are and for loving us enough that spending time with us is so important to you. We love you Father in Jesus Name I Pray...Amen

Jane, I rejoice with you over the progress God has brought about in your son and I am standing in agreement with you, calling those things which are not as though they are, rejoicing over the day when your son surrenders to the love and truth of our Lord.

Yatmama, I have several copies of "Evidence That Demands a Verdict" as well as the update. I really enjoy Josh McDowell's books. But (isn't there always a but) my son doesn't read well, and normally refuses to read anything that requires him to think. So for right now I'm happy he has agreed to read the Bible. But you know "Evidence that Demands a Verdict" is an excellent idea for the next step. I just love the way he started off an atheist trying to prove the bible wrong and ended up becoming a Christian. Well isn't that just the way.

Thank you for your prayers, and help.

Jane, please get a copy of Josh McDowell's "Evidence That Demands a Verdict." He was an intellectual atheist who set out to prove the Bible wrong. And he got powerfully saved and his mind was renewed by the washing of the water of the Word. He travels the nation, challenging young people to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ now. My kids had the great pleasure of hearing him speak at a youth rally. It may be just the book you will need for your son soon! He also published a Bible with EXCELLENT commentary called The Evidence Bible. You can get both books for a good price at Amazon.com.

God works in mysterious ways, and it can be quite the mystery. I have tried for years to get my son (25 yrs) to listen to the words I am speaking regarding my faith instead of filling in the blanks with what he believes that I should believe. Well yesterday he came up with comment I did not appreciate while I was reading the bible. I asked him to explain his beliefs and why he believes the way he does. The later I challenged him. I said I would watch the videos he wants me to watch regarding the "lies" in the bible, if he reads the bible. HE AGREED. This is a first.

I would like to ask you to pray for him. Pray that his eyes and mind are open to what God is and what God wants of him.

Wow I can't wait to be able to sit down and discuss (at least I hope discuss) what we have learned.

Oh ya, pray for me too, that I remember to let God take the lead, cause if I do it myself I will land on my face and Liam will run.

Dear Shelly,

I just read this thread and it's really the best I've ever read. I've been in difficulty so many times as regrard the 'Unanswered Prayers' issue and I have always had many doubts.
Thank you for sharing your life experience in depth and your knowledge about why the Lord sometimes does not answer our prayers. You know sometimes I'm still acting like a child as He rejects my requests and there's so much I have to learn. I also enjoyed so much the prayer warriors story, maybe you should write a book and publish it.

I'm so glad the Lord has sent me a friend like you.

Much like when we share the love of God or His truth with folks in our everyday lives, we just never know what seed will fall to fertile ground and bear good fruit. Keep sharing what He lays upon your heart, my friend, and leave it up to Him to bring forth the increase.

Thank you Missy. I know people are reading this, for some reason no is responding except you. However, it is not the responses which are important to me. What IS important to me is hearing from God and writing what He wants me to. I prayed before I wrote this just as I so often do before writing my posts. I asked for God's help and told HIm I want people to hear Him through me. Writing things which will bring people closer to God, enriching someone's life, those kinds of things are what matters to me, ya know?emoticonHowever, it is always nice to read a comment, thanks again.

emoticonTHREE GENERAL WAYS GOD ANSWERS PRAYERS (part two)

I am not about to claim I know how God answers prayers and what He says to people, but I will say this, there are three ways God answers our prayers: yes, no and wait.

WHEN GOD SAYS NO

Do you believe in God's will for your life? Do you trust that God knows what is best for you in every aspect of your life? If you have answered yes to both of these questions then when you pray for something and God says no it will be easier to accept His will for you, and your life.

If you have kids you know and realize in a real way that your children can not have everything they ask for. It is the same way with us when we ask God for something. Just like a child, the things we pray for, we think we need the things we ask for in our lives, and sometimes we do. However, often God has a different plan as in what way or ways we receive the things we ask for. Just as your kids cry after you have said no, at times we put up a good pout ourselves when we don't get want we want from God.

DON'T LET THE DEVIL WIN

There are many Christians that have fallen into the devils trap. He uses unanswered prayer to turn us away from God, and not only have many people fallen into his trap they remain there in several ways and unfortunately for many years. The devil lies to us and tells us, God isn't giving you what you want and deserve. If he really loved you would have everything that you want in your life.

When we believe his lies

I am going to be honest with you and tell you I have believed the devil's lies in the past on and off for a period of time. I moved to Ohio from Chicago about 14 years ago. I had numerous friends in Chicago. When I moved to Ohio I struggled for years to find a real friend. I had more rejection from women trying to find friendship than I ever have in my entire life through dating men! The weirdest things happen to me as I tried to make friends. I would make a friend only to be stabbed in the back or treated very poorly. This was all so foreign to me and I often wondered if the women I met had mental problems. LOL Really, it was very weird. I did not understand how I could have had so many friends and move to Ohio and be in such weird situations with women, and be treated in such awful ways. The friendships that I did make did not last because the way I was treated was not anything a person should put up with. I was grateful I was still friends with all of my friends back in Chicago, but felt so isolated at times. Many times the devil told me that God did not want me to have any friends. It was easy to believe too because after all, there was some weird things that happened as a result of just trying to become friends with women and trying to maintain friendships. Countless times I had told my husband, "I give up, I am through with trying to find a friend." I was sick of this, that and the other. Why was all of it happening anyway? Why WASN'T God supplying me with a friend? One friend I thought, God, I am simply asking for one friend, is THAT too much to ask I often thought? Although I often felt like giving up on friendship, and there were times I did, I never stopped trying.

WAITING IT OUT

Our time is not God's time. I have found two wonderful friends who live in my community, but it took many years to surface, thirteen years to be exact! Oh, but what a blessing it has turned out to be. I am amazed at times that I actually have two wonderful friends which I know through prayer God has handpicked for me. Our lives and our life experiences mirror one another so much it is unreal. Both of my friends care and love me so much and it is just a true blessing from God and it was worth all of the years of waiting for.

ACTING OUT

Have you ever had someone ask you for something and the person acts out until they get their way? It may have been a friend, your spouse, your boyfriend or girlfriend, or your child. They may throw a temper tantrum (hopefully if this happens it is your child) become resentful, angry, or turn away from you. I can honestly say during the many years of waiting for a friend I was resentful and confused why God had not allowed me to have a friend. It was only through m y faith and my intimate relationship with God that I could not allow that resentment to take root. I felt resentful at times, but I accepted God's will for my life. Due to the fact I accepted God’s will the resentment never lasted for more than a few hours, although it would surface from time to time.

God expects us to pray for our needs and desires and yet accept his will after we have prayed. Jesus is a perfect example for us, and He knows how we feel when we pray for something, yet it is not God's will for our lives. You can tell yourself that Jesus doesn’t know how you feel, that He is not giving you what you want because He is punishing you. However, the fact is that is simply NOT true. As Jesus lived there was a time when He too asked God for something, and He too was denied of His prayer. In a place called Gethsemane, in Mathew 26:39 He prayed this prayer: "My Father, if it is possible, takes this cup of suffering away from me, but, nevertheless, not as I will, but as Thou wilt." Jesus prayed this prayer before Judas, and a large crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests and the elders of the people came to get Him. Jesus knew that very soon his very life would end in such a tragic and painful way. Jesus drank this cup, although He had prayed against it. Through his obedience and His love for us He died for our sins, that we may be saved.

Just as Jesus accepted God will, God wants us to accept His will as well. It may be painful, it may be hard. We may not like God’s plans for us, and we may not agree with them. But I will tell you this and I write from experience, as we accept, and surrender to God’s will He will give us peace with His decision.

It was not easy to be without a friend for thirteen years. However, it was only when I accepted God’s will that the true peace came into my life. I not only accepted that I still had no friendship in sight I told God I could be happy without a friend, and I lived it out as well. I told God He was all I needed; although there had been many years I believed my life would not be complete without a friend. Through surrendering to God I realized I could have a life which was complete even without a friend because it was God and God alone which gave me true joy. I wanted a friend but in His time He would put one in my life. I found peace in my friendless world. I experienced joy as I lived in God’s will.

There are some people who are waiting for someone to enter into their life. There are others who are waiting for something to happen. We all want things, but as we pray, as we wait, and as we grow hungry for them we must be feed through God in a different way before we sometimes get what we want.

Be patient with God
Accept His will
And find happiness within your life whether your prayer is answered or not.

Thank you Missy for your words. You are correct, it is good to take your time, and wait on God. When He is with me and I write everything just flows out of me. I felt like I was lagging behind, yet I knew it was important to write when He wanted me to. It is good to give people a chance to read ALL the stuff I write since I write soooo much.emoticon

emoticonA Life Full of Prayer

Answered Prayer (part one)

This section of the study has at least 4 parts. It may have more I just don't know for sure because I just type as the thoughts and words come to me, but God has given me an idea about some of the stuff I know for sure that will be included that I believe He wants me to write about.

There are many ways we can grow closer to God by praying. Some people only pray when they want and need something. I strongly advise against doing this. Have you ever had a friend that called you only when they wanted something? How did that make you feel? Don't think you are not making God feel used or sad if you only talk or pray to Him when you want something.

Your bond with God will grow closer as you talk and pray to Him. Think about the relationships you have in your life. Aren't the people you are closest to the same people you talk to the most? You may not be thinking yes on this one, however, for most people it is the people they talk to and share the most with who they are the closest with.

It is the same way with God. Talk to God in the morning, afternoon, and evening. The bible illustrates Jesus having a full prayer life, and HIs disciples did as well. If we are to be Jesus's present day disciples, are we then also supposed to pray often? I say YES! Pray throughout the day and evening. In the bible in it says to pray often.

Thessalonians 5:17-18
pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.

Mark 1:35
And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, He went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.

Luke 5:33-36
And they said to Him, "his disciples of John often fast and offer prayers..."

GOD ANSWERS OUR PRAYERS

I know for a fact that God answers every prayer we pray. Some people may find that hard to believe, but it is true. Although, I state it as a fact it is my opinion as well.

THREE GENERAL WAYS GOD ANSWERS PRAYERS

I am not about to calm I know how God answers prayers and what He says to people, but I will say this, there are three ways God answers our prayers: yes, no and wait.

In the next post I will continue this section of my study. I will write about God answering no in response to our prayers in my next post and continue on from there.

Dear Jesus thank you for helping me write this study as I have been seeking you throughout my study for help, wisdom, and your discernment. Please continue to guide me as I want to only represent you and you alone.

Suggested prayer:
I wrote this prayer out for you as you continue to seek God through prayer and enrich your life with His presence, love, and grow in your intimacy with God.

Dear Jesus I seek you now and ask you to help me grow within my prayer life. Help me to make more time for you God. Help me to dedicate my thoughts to you, that they may be of you and you only during time of prayer. Dear God it is through you that I receive complete joy, comfort, and peace. Make me a Shepard of your word and help me to grow through my discipline. I want to know you in a more meaningful way, help me to achieve this through my prayer life. In Jesus name I pray amen.

Thank you Margaret & Missy for your comments. I know that I have not been adding that much here. However, I am listening to the Holy Spirit and for some reason He is taking this study pretty slowly. This next section though I have lots to say through Him. I actually am breaking it up into sections. Hope you and everyone else enjoy it.

Dear God please bring your spirit upon me as I type out these words.

WHY IS PRAYER IMPORTANT? WHY SHOULD YOU DO IT?

Prayer is important for many reasons. It brings you into a closeness with God and allows your relationship to grow between you and His Holy Spirit. As you have read in the bible Jesus spent most of his time in prayer while he was alive.

What bible scriptures show when Jesus prayed?

Mathew:14:23 ... when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening had come, he was there alone.

This is a good example of Jesus and how He prayed, although He prayed with and around people as well. Jesus prayed everyday and for long periods of time during the day and night.

I started to list all the times it showed in the bible that Jesus had prayed. However I deleted this information from my post. My goal in this study is not to teach you about prayer, but teach you how prayer can teach yourself about God and your relationship with God, and also how through prayer you can be intimate with God.

God's Holy Spirit is in each one of us every day. Through prayer you can feel the Holy spirit. I was just with a friend of mine. We were in my car and she answered her phone. I knew that the person she was talking to was hurting her so I started to pray. She was not looking in my direction, more like out of my car window. After she got off the phone she said, you were praying for me. I was very surprised that she somehow knew that I was. She said, "I felt God while I was on the phone. I feel better now, I feel stronger now."

John 14:16-27
"I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever;
that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you. "I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. After a little while the world will no longer see Me, but you will see Me; because I live, you will live also. In that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you. "He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will disclose Myself to him." ..."If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him. He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine, but the Father's who sent Me. "These things I have spoken to you while abiding with you. "But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you. Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.

As it states above Jesus has given us His holy Spirit. As we pray God gives us His peace, and we are renewed. While my friend was on the phone, as I mentioned, I had prayed for her. I prayed and asked God to help her. After she got off the phone we prayed together & I felt renewed and at peace and so did she. I saw a difference in her attitude and her demeanor. It says in the bible as two is joined together in prayer so I am there as well. Friends what an awesome idea, to think God is with us in prayer...RIGHT THERE!!! It is even more thrilling to FEEL Him there!!!!

That is how the Holy Spirit and God works. He and it is there to bring comfort, direct, grace, and peace. It is there for our asking, and if you have receives any of the things above it has been accomplished through prayer, or just by God granting it to you through favor.

The next time you need some grace, peace, comfort, or wisdom why not ask the Holy Spirit to give it to you?

emoticonemoticon A Prayer full Of Life

I would like to start this study with a brief explanation of what this study is going to be about. I will say that it may change from my original plan because I am being led by the Holy Spirit, so some things may change. However, at this point I’ m pretty sure this aspect of the study will remain the same, which is to say this study on prayer is going to be about how to develop an intimate relationship with God through prayer.

As in all relationships, it takes your time, dedication, and effort to develop and maintain, - your prayer life is no different.

I want you to ask yourself a few questions:

1. How would I describe my prayer life?

2. In what ways do I want it to change it?

3. Does it need to be improved in any way?
A. If so in what ways?

4. How do I feel when I pray?
A. Do I feel God’s presence, love, and or do I hear from God?

My prayer life started out much like most people’s prayer life did, or at least I think most people start out in this way. As a child my mom taught me how to pray. The first time I remember praying I was in first grade. It was a general prayer that many children may still say today. It started off with, now I lay me down to sleep I pray the Lord my soul to keep…. At the end of this prayer I would add bless my family. I would ask God to bless everyone in my family. I said this prayer well into high school, never adding much to it or diverting away from it. It was some time after high school that I stopped saying that prayer and just started talking to God before I went to bed in prayer. During those young years the only times I prayed was every once in a while before dinner, and most times before I went to bed. I know that it was not until I was in my thirties that I began regularly saying a prayer each time before we ate our dinner. My lack of prayer life is not something I am proud about. At the time I did not feel my prayer life was lacking in any way. I did not grow up in a household where we prayed before dinner, so really I did not think much about it. This may sound funny, or weird, and a bit sad, but I think my husband and I started to pray before dinner when we started eating at our kitchen table each night for dinner! Whatever led us to pray before dinner I am glad it did because I believe it is the correct thing to do. The only time I said additional prayers was when I saw or heard the need to. While I was in church I would pray. Whenever I heard an ambulance I would pray for whoever it was in the ambulance for their healing, and their family members to be comforted. Whenever I knew someone was going through a hard time or needed prayers for whatever reason, including myself I would pray as well. I have never stopped praying before I went to bed since I was in first grade. That is an accurate way to describe what my prayer life used to be.

It was not until a few years ago that I even realized my prayer life was lacking in anyway until I was talking to a good friend of mine on the phone. She is a member here on our team, her user name is Griff2734 While I was talking to her on the phone she started telling me how much she loved to pray. I remember thinking, wow; I have never heard anyone get so much out of praying in my life! The way she described it was like the best thing she could ever do and the most rewarding experiences she ever had. You see while Griff is in prayer there is no other place she wants to be. In fact Griff spends time in prayer every day through out the day. While she is getting ready for work, while she is eating lunch, driving home from work, I mean the girl is in prayer until she wakes up and until she closes her eyes. Let me tell you her life is an example of her prayer life. She is full of the Holy Spirit, and God brings glory through her by blessing her life, and answering her prayers. It is very evident that God leads her through her life, and she obeys Him in every way. He brings blessings to her in countless ways. Her life just keeps getting better and better, and she is constantly growing within him. This is what God does for us as we seek to please, serve and worship Him. As we try our best to bring glory to God each day He in return brings that glory back into your life, and it is blessed by His abundant presence, love, and grace, and all other spiritual blessings from above! Those of you who know Griff, know just what I am trying to explain. He helped her to grow, and is there for her. Griff has so much excitement when she talks about praying that I wanted some of it for my own! I told her more than once,” Something is missing from my prayer life because I don’t feel the same way you do 'bout prayer. Griff, I think I need to pray more often.” At some point since I became your team leader God led me to develop a special group for this team called Prayer Warriors, and that was when my prayer life took on a life of its own. Now, I will be honest with you. God told me to start this group made up of team members who would be assigned to prayer pals and then pray for them. Team members would mail me their prayer requests, but I only intended to JUST lead the group, not become a prayer warrior myself. You see, at the time I thought I was doing just fine with my relationship with God. I have been talking and hearing from Him since I was in fifth grade. I was very intimate with God. I prayed for my family members whenever they needed prayer, and I had made some effort praying more since I had met my friend Griff.

What was my reason for not wanting to be a prayer warrior? Well, I believed it was because I was so sensitive…really I am being serious. I was afraid that because I care so much for my team members that I would take on too much emotionally and wear myself out. I have nine siblings and I figured they keep me praying enough, not to mention myself and my husband’s needs. Hey, I may be sounding selfish at this point, but I am being real with you. I can look back now and see the selfish lining around it all, but I felt ok with it, not bad at all in fact. I prayed for the team throughout the week and I felt that was enough.

Well, God had other plans. As I started to organize the prayer warrior group, and the prayer requests started to come in, one day I received an email stating a prayer request, but the person explained it was a private prayer request. As I read the email the Holy Spirit told me I was to pray for this private prayer request and many others would be sent to me, which did happen. He sent many others during the time our team had that prayer warrior group. I obeyed God and immediately started praying for the person who had submitted their private prayer request. However, I reminded God how sensitive I was and told Him my concerns. I asked Him, what if I get overwhelmed? What if I can’t handle it? He told me not to worry about anything, that he would give me the grace I needed to pray for the people He sent me to pray for. He did too. Not only did I receive His grace He gave me an anointing for prayer, and the anointing began to work through me as I prayed for my team members/prayer pals & wrote them. I say in the most humble way, many prayers were answered and the beauty of this experience is one of a life time!!!

Being a prayer warrior has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my entire life! I was used through God in the most rewarding way, and experienced so much joy, love, and satisfaction. I could never begin to completely be able to describe all the wonderful ways it helped me and the people I prayed for, or all the intense emotions I experienced while praying for my team members. Those of you reading this post, who had prayer pals, or were a prayer warrior, know just what I am talking about. Myself, your other team leader, Missy (Yatmama), and other team members who became prayer warriors prayed for general prayer requests and private prayer requests. The prayer warrior group ran for about a year. It ended about a little more than a year ago I think. Although, I have a few people I am still praying for, and I believe other prayer warriors still pray for some of their old prayer pals as well. During the time we had this group I understood the joy my friend Griff had about prayer. I just thank God for leading me to form the prayer warrior group, and giving me a willing, and obeying spirit to do as He told me to. I also want to thank my dear friend Griff for sharing with me her love of prayer. It was her amazing spirit and love for God that made me want to change and grow within my own prayer life. While I was a prayer warrior I started to add things to my daily life that helped me to grow closer to God and become stronger spiritually. I began reading the bible on a daily basis, read verses out loud each day, and just spent more time with God talking throughout the day with Him. By abiding in God in this way I had more discernment from God, I felt His presence more often, and my whole life became better in every way! At some point after doing these things I started to claim my prayer life by adding to my prayers by praying to God before I got out of bed each morning. I would not want to start out the day in any other way now. I was thinking back to the lack of prayer life I had just a few years ago and I can see and feel the difference increased time in prayer has made and I can only say, I will never go back to the old way I used to live.

So this is me, that is where I came from and this is where I am today. What about you? How about answering those questions. Jot them down and spend time writing the answers out, or talking the questions out with God right now. Give yourself a REAL life; make it all about prayer….. You will never regret it!

Intimate communication with the Lover of our souls, yes, this is some powerful nourishment to devour. Discernment, power, growth, unity are simply a few of the treasures that we get to partake of as we ask and petition our Father for the knowledge that we need to fulfill the purpose of which we were sent. Good stuff Shelly,

May peace, knowledge and understand rest upon your shoulders as you dive further into the delicious Word of Life...pray always and praise him for he is good all the time.

until next time all be blessed.

GG,

I totally love those Bible Verses I have that on my wall at work. It was placed there to remind me that If I have a problem with someone I need to look at it as a spiritual attack from the dark side instead of looking at the person themselves and holding anything against them.

If I do this then I will always be compassion and loving always as God commands me to be. Also then I will be a good witness to them as well. This applies to me as a reminder as well.

This is great prayer is so important it bring you closer and closer to God.

I do pray for myself....I have for years!....every morning, before work I ask God for guidance, wisdom and to lead me in the direction He wants me to go. i close with may i think of You in all I say, in all I do and all I think today and everyday, Amen......I never thought it selfish, I just know that I need God everyday and I ask Him to be with me.

This study sounds interesting and I will try to be involved!

Before we start I cover this post with God's mighty armor. In doing so all people thoughts,& prayers, will be protected.

God I ask you to bless me through you in leading me through this teaching on prayer. I ask for your discernment and protection as I teach your word and of you through prayer. In Jesus name I pray amen.

THE ARMOR OF GOD

Ephesians 6:10-18

Be strong in the Lord and in his mightily power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against rulers, against authorities, against the powers of the dark world, and against the spiritual forces of evil in heavenly places. Therefore put on the full armor of God. So, when the evil day comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after having done everything to stand. Stand firm then with the belt of truth tightened around your waist, with the breast plate of righteousness in place, and your feet fitted with the gospel of peace stand firm. In addition to all this take up the shield of faith, with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the spirit which is the word of God. Pray in the spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers & requests.

God has sent us His Holy Spirit to empower us. The book of John says that when the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide us into all truth. The book of Romans tells us that if the Holy Spirit controls our minds, there is life and peace. And I especially like what the book of Galatians says about our 'Spirit-controlled' lives.

"But when the Holy Spirit controls our lives, he will produce this kind of fruit in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control." (Galatians 5:22, 23)

It's the Holy Spirit of God in us that causes us to pray as we do.

Shelly, you better believe it. Prayer is a part of living our everyday lives. Each one of us unique and different. There are different types of prayer. Holy Spirit will lead us into the correct prayer for the right time. You go girl and know you are backed up by all of heaven with this great study on prayer.

A Prayer Full of Life
A new study from Glitter.

Prayer, what does prayer mean to you? Where does it fit into your life? Every Christian knows something about prayer, but what does prayer know about you? If God looked into your prayer life what would He find? Would He know you by it?

I have come to realize that a big part of our spirituality depends on prayer. Prayer is not just a bunch of words grouped together that sound holy and acceptable. Prayer goes far beyond that. It is a union between you and the Holy Spirit. It is an intimate way to be connected to God and feel His presence!

Now, many people pray, but I have found that there are many Christians who don't pray for themselves. Some think it is better to pray for other people than it is to pray for themselves. Well, I am here to say that is far from the truth! There is nothing holy or spiritual about NOT praying for yourself!!! God wants to hear your needs and the things you desire in your life. He wants to bless you with His love, favor, and kindness.

I have prayed to God about this subject and I believe that He has led me to do a study on prayer with you. This study starts today. However, I still will be in prayer the next couple of days though. I will wait in prayer to continue my study with you. It will start up Monday April 11th. I just ask you to pray over this teaching before I start this study. Please pray for God's discernment as I teach on prayer, for all that I will share with you will come from Him. I will share with you my personal experiences I have had, and what I have learned through them. I do not know how long this study will last, but I will be here teaching you things through my posts as God leads me through it.
