This team is the best!!! You guys are ALL so awesome, look what you do for each other & the way you share. I believe what touches my heart the most about this team is that people REALLY care for one another. You can feel it in your words, you know what i mean? I have been very busy these last few weeks. I did something to my back again, but God keeps healing me, but then something else happens to it. It is a bit of a story, if I have time I will share it this month. If not, perhaps later.

I was just checking up on how this thread is doing. I still have to type my grandma's recipe out for you all. Although it has taken me a while to get to my point, emoticon I REALLY just wanted to say that when I get a moment I will give you my grandma's peanut butter cookie recipe as well. Gotta go! emoticon you all. emoticon

OK...here is my sister`s sugar cookie recipe:
1 C. butter
2/3C Sugar
1 egg
2 1/2 C sifted flour
1/2 t.salt
1/2 t vanilla
Cream butter & sugar, beat in egg. Combine flour & salt and add to to first mixture, stir in vanilla. Chill for 3-4 hrs. Preheat oven to 350. Roll out and cut cookies. Bake 8-10 min. , or until slightly brown(tan).
Icing:
Powdered sugar
vanilla
water/or milk
food coloring
Mix together, adding enough liquid(water/milk) to make a slightly "runny" frosting.Decorate with knife, back of spoon, and/or brush.

She always made candy canes, Christmas trees and Santa faces. They were yummy and beautiful.

Ok gang, let the recipes begin!!!

I had fun reading through all of your replies. emoticon

Never thought the thread would become sooo long! If you have the time why not post one or two cookie recipes for the group to share? I will try to do it today for you. I will post my grandma’s peanut butter cookie recipe. I am not sure if it is different from the common recipe. When I make it I always think of her, and the cookies taste better. Thanks to all who shared here! You are the BEST!!! emoticon emoticon S

A little prayer:

Dear God this time of year is hard for us. We see the things we like to eat, yet know that just one bite could lead to countless more. Sometimes it is hard not to do the things we know we should not with food and other things as well. Help us to keep Christmas special as well as healthy concerning our healthy lifestyles we are trying to maintain. In Jesus name I pray amen.

WARMSPRINGDAY,
I would be very happy if you would share your recipe.
You know, even if it is the same as Grandma`s, they won`t taste the same, because she did not make them, so they will lack the "Grandma Taylor touch"
Thank You!

I make a chocolate cookie that I found in a magazine called "Our Favorite Chocolate Cookie." It certainly is in our family--all chocolate chips and Eagle Brand. My son didn't like my not making them last year, so I'll woo him to my house with promises of them this year. I also like Meringues made with chocolate chips.

Bobbie, I'm missing my Mom, too. Speaking of cookies, I was just thinking the other day of the wonderful cookies she baked over the years, and especially the Chewy Dunkin' Snaps she made. They were a soft crinkly molasses cookie. Over time, she had altered the recipe to be healthier - replacing 1/2 the shortening with applesauce and using part whole wheat flour, and some other variations. They were the best! I have the recipe, but not her alterations. I'll have to look in her recipe book to see if she wrote the changes she made.

Wow, how do you pick a favorite Christmas cookie. I have a list that I used to faithfully make every year and gave them as gifts. But I floundered into a slough of depression and didn't bake Christmas cookies for several years. After I got out of the habit, it has been difficult for me to pick it back up.I can't really pick a favorite. My list includes:

Peanut Butter Blossoms (with the Hershey kiss on top)
Chinese Tea Balls (shortbread rolled in powdered sugar)
Nighty Night Cookies (a meringue cookie w/ nuts and chocolate chips)
Hello Dollies (a bar cookie almost like candy)
Raisin Filled Cookies (a special recipe with oatmeal in the dough)
Choco Peanut Toppers (shortbread type cookie topped with peanut butter frosting and a chocolate glaze - probably my favorite)
Rolled Chocolate Cookies (an heirloom recipe from my husband's family and his favorite)
Raisin top cookies (a recipe from my Mother)
Sugarplum cookies (a stove top cookie - cooked date filling mixed with rice krispies then rolled in colored sugar)

Hmmm - gettin' in the mood. Maybe I need to bake some cookies this Christmas, but then I'm afraid I can't let them alone.

This might be a great thread to share some Christmas cookie recipes? Or maybe start another thread for it.

It just would not seem like Christmas without making cut out sugar cookies. I love to decorate them! I can't make them every Christmas because of my calories intake I try to stay within all year long. But on the Christmases that I do make them AND eat them I really enjoy it. I also love peanut better cookies. They are a Christmas cookie for our family because they are only made during Christmas. These cookies remind me of my grandma because the recipe has been pasted down from one generation to another.
