What a great day! Celebrated my birthday with friends and family and am now home feeling terrific! Enjoyed the company, had a wonderful dinner, and the best part is I will not have eater's remorse tomorrow. Used the tips of splitting my meal before I even started eating, checked on line before going to the restaurant so I knew what healthy choices were available. I did not feel like I was in any way having less of a time because of my pre-planning or I was being deprived. It actually felt pretty good to eat well, enjoy the company, and leave the festivities feeling I had reached a good place in my journey where food was not the end all to end all and that it was only a part of the overall celebration.

Met my goals for the nutrition ranges with just the right amount of servings today- emoticon me! emoticon

Another day that I just squeaked in on the lower end of the right amount of each area-what a crazy day but thanks to this challenge, I gave it a second thought when reaching for a quick snack and that helped me meet the veg/fruit requirement for the day-love that this makes me think if I am getting a good balance of the right stuff during the day!

Gosh, I am behind!

The good news is, while I may not have posted, I have been keeping track-

Wednesday-10/23-met the daily servings in all catagories, albeit the lower end but all food groups accounted for.

Thursday-10/24-another busy day with little computer time but managed to eat well for all three meals and snacks-was a little short of protein but finished the night with a serving of greek low-fat yogurt and some strawberries-just enough to finish the veg/fruit/protein servings off for the day. emoticon

I have been away from the computer and am behind on the logging.
Tuesday, I had 6 bread, 6 veggies, 2 fruit, 1 dairy, 1 fat. 1 protein
Wednesday I've had 2 dairy, 2 bread, 5 fruit, 2 protein, then I went off the rails and eat a potful of orzo pasta, some toast and peanut butter.
thursday, I am home sick. I have had 1 protein, 4 vegetables, 2 bread, and 1 fat.
Friday. again sick. 4 veggies, 3 grains, 2 protein
Saturday, so far I have had 1 protein, 1 dairy, 1 grain. I have a fruit smoothy planned that will be 3 fruits, 1 dairy, 1 protein.

Grains: 6-11 servings per day
Fruits & Veggies: 5-9 total servings per day
Meat & Beans: 2-3 servings per day
Dairy: 2-3 servings per day
Fats & Oils: Sparing or small amounts only per day

A day late in getting started-and another day later and getting things posted-Alas! but at least I did get started yesterday- emoticon me!

10/22 was successful in meeting the goals by reaching the range of servings for each food group. Another emoticon me! emoticon

It really helped to go back and review what an actual serving size was as that helped put it in perspective of just how many servings I was eating with each meal or snack. It is so easy to think that bowl of mixed fruits was just 1 serving instead of realizing I actually had 3! emoticon

This is a great challenge for this week. Sometimes when things get hectic I don't take the time to really portion out my meals.

Hiya - new here this week so not quite fully into it all yet, but I checked out the article. I was a bit overwhelmed by all the info at first, so just decided to check on my meat/fish/poultry intake as I thought I was probably having too much, but was very pleased to see that I'm already eating about the right amount!

With that decided I thought I'd check out the carbs, and have decided that I'm probably overdoing it on the pasta and potatoes, so will in future cut my pasta portion by a third, and weigh out my potatoes into 250g portions.

I will have another look at the article another day and check on another aspect of my portions!

I've used my food scale to visually see what a portion is. When I don't have the scale, that's how I know now.

There are so many servings of everything, if you are on the low end of the calorie scale (1250) it seems hard to get them all in.

One of our newer Mini-Challenges and one of the last in the 6 month rotation series!

I have struggled with this for years, even after joining SP, and I often times still do. My plate is always full, even at the salad bar. So, I'm relying on you all to help me and each other again this week!

Your MC for this week is to read the following SP Article:

www.sparkpeople.com/resource/nutriti
on
_articles.asp?id=177

Print it off if you have to and for the 4 days of the 7 this MC is in effect, aim for getting the proper number of portions for each food group outlined in the article. I've condensed it for you from the article below:

Grains: 6-11 servings per day
Fruits & Veggies: 5-9 total servings per day
Meat & Beans: 2-3 servings per day
Dairy: 2-3 servings per day
Fats & Oils: Sparing or small amounts only per day

Try to keep these servings within the recommended portion amount for each and let us know how you are doing! Post here your progress!

6 out of the 7 days gets you the Golden Crown Award! (which I'm behind giving giving out again) ...sigh. emoticon

Hugs ya'll!!

L.
