The last few times when we did this MC, Easter and Halloween have been upon us (coincidence? nahhhh), and no matter what religion you are, both of these are sugary holidays so it's going to be around, in the stores, possibly right under your nose!
How do you rationalize eating bad-for-you stuff?
"Oh, I'll just eat a couple pieces of candy and it won't be so bad"
"A mini-sized bar...less than 100 calories!"
"My child won't miss a few pieces out of their bag, basket, etc...."
"It's a Chocolate BUNNY, for Pete's sake, how bad can a bunny be?"
I started, as I said above, with my weight loss journey just before Halloween 4.5 years ago (read my 'story' in the Spark Story Thread on the main page) on 10/17/07, and Halloween was a tricky time for me. Just short of only two weeks back on the Spark wagon and in order to protect myself from the evilness called chocolate, I found myself hurling (yes, hurling) individually wrapped pieces of milk chocolate temptation out across the lawn, into the woods and thus away from me so I wouldn't eat them.
Some of you may actually remember the Great Chocolate Hurling Incident of 2007. I think it was written up in our local paper. Headlines read, "Crazed Fat Woman Hurls Hersheys!"
It was, by all accounts, a desperate measure. And I was desperate.
That said, there ARE less, shall we say, crazy ways to stave off the sugary treats that call our names and make us want to eat them. Sparkpeople has helped me realize that I am only hurting myself when I pack in the chocolate, the Peeps, the specialty M&M's and the Whoppers (the name ALONE should make me want to stay away) no matter what shape they come in and no matter the season. Intake of too much sugar, and especially items with High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) can be detrimental to my body and my diet. More so than I even knew way back then.
We cannot stop the barrage of chocolate and other sweet delectables that flood the markets every perceived holiday but we CAN take control and win the war for ourselves, our health and our bodies. This weeks MC is to keenly watch the amount of refined sugar, fructose, glucose & HFCS that we ingest into our bodies. It's in much, much more than just chocolate & other sweet stuff.
Now, and here's the tricky part, HFCS can be lurking in places that you might not realize they are. For instance there is loads of HCFS in canned sodas (we broke that cycle 2 weeks ago, yes?), in breakfast cereals, in ketchup and in snack bars & power bars. So, your MC is to read labels & choose wisely!
For 4 days out of the 7 this MC is in effect, make a substitution of a healthy snack when you find too much HFCS, refined sugar, glucose or frutose in a food that you might otherwise have eaten had you not been paying attention.
Report in this Forum exactly where you are finding the hidden sugar in your diet and what substitution you made so that it can help us all!!!
Also, did you know that refined sugar is THE number one offender in causing 'belly fat'? Ewwww....and we just finished all those crunches! Don't let all that work go to waste!

Don't forget to get your 3 points EACH for reading the articles.....above all, have fun with this and enjoy your week.
This one, I would LOVE for a lot of the team to succeed in doing, so for this week, accomplishing thie the Mini Challenge alone (4 out of 7 days) will earn you the Golden Crown Award!
Although, I'll be out of town next week so the Crowns may come a little late...sorry about that!
Hugs ya'll and remember to Say No to HFCS!
