Sunday, I had the house to myself and I worked on a recipe that I've recently wanted to try. It's Polish Stuffed Cabbage. I took my time and tinkered around in the kitchen for a couple of hours and it was divine! I also took the dogs (2 or the 3 because #3 (Cannon) was a little a-hole so he stayed in the car) for a walk and it was also awesome. My Trick-z girl had a blast & I carried Maxi-Pup in a pouch on my front. He can no longer see, so he enjoys it more when I carry him. So much FUN! Next time I won't even attempt to bring Cannon. I was disappointed he was such a little pill barking at all the other dogs & people. Ugh.

Then I went to Goodwill and tinkered in there for about 15 mins, then I went home and watched all the HGTV I could stand while watching the birds out the back window. Loved it....what a great day to do anything I wanted to! Who-hooooo! Much needed!

L.

PS: All the Golden Crown Awards have been given out this morning to folks that posted they did at least 6 of 7 days....did you make it but just haven't posted yet? If so, get to posting!!! I'll give out awards again later today!

funny. i found my work relaxing today. getting it over with was certainly relaxing.
just realized. i put on nice music cd while i worked. i'll bet it helped. should do more often.
also rode my bike for half an hour, but did high intensity intervals so not really relaxing. claiming 7 days of something each day.

So far....

Day 1: Danced for 30 minutes to get rid of my stress
Day 2: Sat and put everything on hold for a while whilst I had a cup of tea and read a magazine
Day 3: Went to bed at 8.30 with a good book and read for an hour. LOVED IT. SO peaceful, on my own, totally chilled out.
Day 4: Sat and did my cross stitch (which I havnt done in ages!) and watched a tv drama
Day 5: Turned off the telly and sat and had some drinks with my hubbie once the kids were in bed. Really nice to talk, get everything off my chest and just have some quality time together
Day 6: Didnt manage it today. Soooooo busy, oh well
Day 7: Really busy but 3.00 now and have decided I am going to take half an hour out, made a cup of tea and spend some time on Sparkpeople. Lovely!

No, Minnie, I did the baby hat first, then the Mama hat to match over two nights. I finished up another Baby Mama hat set last night in pink purple & greens that I like even better! Again, a two night project but finished now. Plus I did another Irish Rose Flower which is cutie cute too.

Now to just get them photographed on some baby's heads! ha ha ha

Steph: I am right there with you.

Besides work, My computer broke last week, so I got a new one this past weekend, but some of my software was so old I couldn't use it on the new one. My daughter is having problems in French and just can't seem to get her motivated, so I have to stay on her and her assignments. Then I took on a volunteer position with my animal shelter helping with posters for an Easter event. AGGGHHHH.

Needless to say yesterday was also my awareness day and I'm too ashamed to say how I dealt with my stress, but starting today I am going to deal with my stress in a positive way (no wine involved).

This is just what I need at the moment.

Day 1: Was having really bad day but instead of letting it take over me I put on Just Dance on the wii and danced to all my favourite songs for 30 minutes. Felt sooo much better afterwards

Day 2: All my children were at school and preschool in the morning so I hav a pile of things that I had to do. Instead I took an hour out for myself, made myself a cup of tea and sat and read. So relaxing and actually totally destressed me so that I was more ready to then get on with things.

Slow and steady wins the race!

Love this challenge. I have been losing it for the past few months because of all the stressful changes going on in work, home, kids etc. I finally realized today that the reason I am so stressed is every single event or issue is something that is out of my control, no wonder I am feeling so lost.

Well, guess what I can control? ME!!!!! I need to let this stuff ride and just hang onto my surfboard lol. What I can control is that I can come out at the other end in control of ME. Aha. From today on I will stop trying to control the universe.

Was such a stressful week last week, there were a couple of nights I only got a few hours sleep, so hoping I can do better this week.

Love the crocheted hats! Maybe I need a relaxing project, but reading has been helping.

Back from Michael's and got some yarn but not the kind I wanted for the shawl. ACK...too expensive at $6.99 a skein. I think Hobby Lobby had it for $4.99 a skein & I'll use a coupon (of course!)

Will make some more hats starting tonight! :)

Hi,
I'm in for this one.
I was trying to figure out what to do this week, especially since this is a busier than normal
week for me. Lots of things going on.
But I need to simplify things again. Trying to do too much at once.
So I am going to slow down and take one day at a time.

Will do the following things:

Start writing in my journal again each day
Take a walk with the dog at least 5 days this week

I'm with you, Nan! Lately, I've been sitting down and crocheting while winding down with the TV in the evenings. It gives me the added benefit of feeling good about myself because I'm finishing projects that I start. I've been doing cutie little headbands and hats for my neices and other people. It's funny but I've kinda got a little stockpile of hats now! LOL

Check this out, I just finished this newborn, baby girl hat last night:

I have some others on my Flickr site, if you're interested, go take a peek!

My next project is for moi! A shawl but made out of some raspberry, wool yarn with a nice texture to it. :D I'm going to get that yarn today with a 40% off coupon (of course!) from Michael's. THAT will be relaxing to me this week! Especially since I still have to "be still & quiet" Ugh.

I can use some stress-management. I too tend to take on too many projects.
Looking forward to a walk outside or exercise to deal with my stress.

This one came at a good time for me
19/2/12 Bit the head off my friend for just suggesting we went for a walk!!!!! Wake up time I think.
Plan
20/2/12 8pm bed with my magazine for 30 mins. day one done

21/2/12 8pm bed with my magazine for 30 mins. day 2 done too with 25 mins on train with
Paul Mckenna stress CD as well

23/2/12 8pm bed with my magazine for 30 mins. Off to bed soon

24/2/12 10 pm in bed No work tomorrow 2x 30 mins sewing in train. some housework and
bed by 10. Looking like a good week so far

25/2/12 Lie in till 7 am at least. 730 am and only because dad was up and moving about. Busy day houseworkwise, but of to a choir concert in the church to celebrate church's 70th anniversary

26/2/12 Late rise 730 am Sit in front of a soppy video for 2 hrs in the afternoon. No crafts in hand Did it
27/2/12 Sit in front of a soppy video for 2 hrs in the afternoon. No crafts in hand And that too. Boy am I well pleased with myself.

getting to bed times may seem an odd challenge but I have 445 rises and most of my stress is down to lack of sleep, but there is always something Else I could just fit in before I turn in
And I do not ever sit down in the evening with my cross-stitch.

This week, we're on Week 4 of the month which means we are on our Self Esteem Mini-Challenge! ;) Some of you might need to rest your behinds a bit, so this one will come in handy! And, obviously, I need to simplify a little something something in my life since I didn't even remember to post this MC until this MORNING....sorry ya'll!

SO, let's get on with it, shall we?

How many of us fill our lives with so many things that sometimes we feel utterly overwhelmed? I am guilty of that, certainly...sometimes worse than others!

I'm sure many of you have read this one before but it's such a good example in my life, I'm afraid I'm going to repeat it again for the new folks: I used to take on SO much without realizing it or I offer for new tasks all the while wondering, then worrying, about how I was going to fit anything more into my already bulging schedule and life.

I'm an artist. Several years ago I thought I would make a little extra money doing pet portraiture. Fortunately, it seemed, I immediately began getting commission after commission that I kept saying "yes" to. I was thrilled! Until I realized that they had started to pile up. It got to the point where the act of painting for me was no longer the stress-relieving fun time I had come to look forward to. Instead, it had quickly become a 'chore' to complete the commissions fast fast fast and it actually began to cause more stress than it alleviated.

Unable to manage the commissions left me harried and depressed. I eventually returned several of the commissions with apologies that I simply could not get them done. What a relief! I was able to breathe again. The pressure was off. But, I felt somewhat of a failure.

I learned from that experience that I can NOT agree to do things I cannot fit into my schedule or projects that will provide more stress than they relieve. It took a while to figure out how to spot those stress inducing tasks though and to learn that saying "No" from the start is SO MUCH better for me than saying "No" after the fact and feeling like a big failure. Of course, that part takes practice!

The point was driven home sometime later when I saw an ad in the local newsletter asking for a typist for a short project that required someone to type with speed, and ironically, it turned out to be for a friend. Hey, I thought, *I* can type 80 wpm! I could do that AND help out my friend!! I almost picked up the phone and offered for the project. Almost. And then, like a thunderbolt it hit me:

just because I CAN do something, doesn't mean I HAVE to do it!

Wow! What a revelation!

I let it go. In my mind I said, "No thank you" and I never made that call to accept yet another candle burning project that was surely fraught with stress. Since then I've made similar changes in my life in order to simplify and let go of stress. For instance, I stopped the daily newspaper & stopped all my subscription magazines. I never had time to read the newspaper or the magazines and they would pile up in the corner waiting for me; each time I walked by I could feel them calling to me, asking for my time. Then, to top it off, I felt guilty that I was paying for subscriptions that I wasn't reading. All that has stopped. I said, "No thank you" to all the requests for renewals and simplified. Update: I started my newspaper subscription again for the SOLE purpose of getting the coupons. In order to relieve the stress associated with not reading the paper, I open it, immediately throw away everything that isn't a coupon and I feel just fine about it. I am sticking to my purpose of getting the paper.

I stopped volunteering for the national crochet raffle that is part of the dog rescue group I volunteered for. In fact, 3 years ago, I stopped heading up the area coordinator position altogether. I said, "No thank you" and guess what? The world did not fall apart because I wasn't a part of it or running it, or controlling it. Someone else stepped up and filled my shoes. Yeah, I simplified!

I crochet...I've been playing with putting up some of my cutier than cute crocheted hats for sale but I'm not sure I'm ready for that kind of stress yet. Still thinking....

Those are some examples in my life that have really helped me simplify. Now, it's time for next weeks MC:
