I am sure that you know the most basic rule of weight-loss is that you need to burn more calories than you consume. This is where exercise makes weight loss a bit easier (largely because it is possible to get away with paying less attention to what you eat).
That said it is perfectly possible to lose weight while not exercising. The simplistic thing that you can do is pay attention to what you are eating. Whether you use a food journal or Sparkpeople's tracker it does not matter. What matters is that you are honest with yourself and that means recording every little thing that goes into your mouth. I would recommend that for a week or two you just keep track of what you eat without trying to change any of your habits.
Also, pay attention to how you are preparing your foods. How much salt you are using. If you cook vegetables using sugar how much you are adding. Just tracking this information can give you a powerful tool which you can use to see where you can make simple adjustments which you can use to turbo-charge your weight-loss.
As far as possible try and consume as many of your vegetables as close to their raw state as possible. Because raw vegetables are harder to digest your body expends more energy digesting them than they actually contain. (This is a result of the thermogenic effect). I'm not recommending that you eat raw pumpkin but if you are a fan of mashed pumpkin, like I am, rather steam pumpkin cubes and sprinkle a little cinnamon over them.
Also, talk to your doctor about the medications that you are on. Perhaps he or she might be able to help you out with some tips and tricks.
Don't try and abandon your favourite "bad" foods (for me it is Mrs Balls Potato Chips)...rather schedule them into your eating plan. This will make you less likely to binge.
Finally, I know Hannelie mentioned that you are not a fan of exercise. I would like you to consider what activities you do enjoy and look if any of them do involve moving. I myself, hate going to the gym but I enjoy cycling and swimming, and taking the odd walk.

I've had Lupus for a long time. I am blessed though to have a very supportive family and husband.
I'm just battling to loose weight with all the medication I use and would love to hear about what works for you with regards to your diet. I have even tried to go vegan for a whole year - I did loose weight, but didn't get enough proteins in and that was also not good for me. Now I'm back on a normal diet and have picked up 5 of the 15 I've lost.

Im afraid I dont know anything about lupus but I did find this site where other lupus sufferers go, maybe it will help your friend to log on or you and then you can relay what other people say works. www.thelupussite.com/forum/
My x-sister in law has also got lupus, it is an auto immune desease, and fairly hard to deal with, I am sorry hear she is suffering from this, maybe a more "green' or "clean' eating will help too, more fresh foods,veggies,fruits and the meat/fish products should be as little processed as possible, more beans and legumes also.
I really hope she will improve.

Hi I have a friend that needs advise. She have the sickness of "Lupus" and are on a Hormone- change theropy. She is from time to time in alot of pain and in that time she is in a wheelchair. She is also abit down, and need all our motivation that we can give her.
She want to loose some weight and do not like exercise. She also want to know how to controle her eating habits - 'n natuurlike eetlus demper - Sorry for the Afrikaans but I could not think of english words.
