I noticed the same thing. And quite often people do not track the calories etc correctly. So for the first few weeks I will be entering my own data. So much easier. And it definitely helps that there are South Africans who have also taken the initiative! emoticon

Just saying how wonderful it is everytime I just try and see if a South African food is on the tracker and find it! So thanks to all of you who add them - reminds me every time that there are people here slowly trying to get control of weight/health/fitness!

Hi Everyone, I'm still new to Spark, so please forgive me if I ask stupid questions.
Where do we get the south african products? Or do we just enter them ourselves as printed in the back of any food item available in SA (that's actually what I've been doing) :-)

I would just like to thank Tamzin for the website link she provided, it is AWESOME. Always one of my biggest issues with most trackers is that is mostly only for an overseas market and this site will help a whole bunch, thanks again, and keep the SPARK alive :D

Well since our work offices moved, it's now closer to where I live. It's now only 1,2km from my home, so on days when it's not raining I just walk to and from work. Sometimes I even have to carry my heavy laptop bag, we live in a safe area so it's fine. Last week I couldn't do much walking though since it was raining a lot, but this week loooks to be a good one. And it's great because I'm not wasting any petrol emoticon
So I just worked it on the fitness tracker. If I keep my walk between 10 and 15 minutes, I burn about 70 calories, that's 140 a day...nice emoticon
I also have a desk job, which is not good for anyone trying to lose weight. But I did find some desk stretches, which I intend to do every 2 hours and I'm also going to be making an extra effort to get up and walk around a bit every hour...like getting up to get a glass of water for example.

well it makes sense. will make the effort so that I can track properly. So what kind of exercise do the team mates get up to and for how long. I am talking for non gym goers. My gym is far and cant afford to travel to it all the time coz of petrol budgeting.

Get up and get going NOW.

This is a great thread. I did some food tracking for the first time yesterday, and I must say it was a bit tricky emoticon But I will be sure to use the advice given here.

i also eadd any new items - i also share them, so some things you might search for could be available (i added values of some wimpy foods because they terrified me so much!). i also generally think in calories, so i also do the division whenever i'm dealing with new foods.

i find that SP doesn't always have all the foods that we might eat - they barely have half the meat that usually goes on a braai! but i just google til i find it. perhaps we should all help each other and start loading some of the pre-packed foods from woolies, pick n pay, etc. although usually i prepare my own food and don't use the pre-made meals.

in the end, i think the tracker is really just there to give a rough estimate, just like the fitness tracker. as long as you're generally in the right ballpark, you should be doing okay...

I work in calories, just easier for me since I learned it in calories first. I do the division which is 4.2 meaning that you take the kilojoule figure and divide it by 4.2 to get calories or use kilojoules and multiply 4.2
I also put the SA values into my tracker. There is a place for new foods.

If I eat anything that is pre-packed e.g. packet of almonds, I enter all the information for
100grams into My Favourites, convert the kJs to calories, and then enter the quantity that I have eaten that day.

I think it is impossible to use the Spark branded items. That's also why is it is so much easier to eat Clean, non-processed foods

Everything that I eat has nutritional information - and if there's any doubts, google it and you'll find the calories and all the trace elements too. Initially it takes a bit of work but once that's done, it's not so bad

good luck

How do you guys use the food tracker using south farican foods. it is all quite puzzling to me so much that i seek the American equivalent which is not that helpful as you never know if you have under or over estimated calorie or should I say kilojoule intake.would love to hear form the team mates.

Get up and get going NOW.
