Hi all you Beautiful people out there.
I'm finally able to join your team.....I never really got the hang of cycling as a child, my brother [bless him] was so protective of me as a child that whenever I came flying off of my bike, he would pick me up & pop me on his saddle & peddle away for both of us.....he tried teaching me to cycle but I'd so often crash into the nearest lamp post that my confidence as a cyclist never really got off the ground.
About 9 yrs ago one of my sons [then aged 11] would take me out on my daughters bike to teach me all over again.....he says I was the only one he ever knew that could crash into a stationary car.....after about 3 months of that cycling got left behind once again.
About 4 months ago I was ready to have another shot at this so every week for about 30 minutes I'd go to my local park & have a muck about on one of my son's bikes aided of course by my son [now 20]
My youngest daughter [22] began to come along too & the 30 minutes increased to 60 a week.
about 8 weeks ago I was getting out about twice a week for 60 minutes at a time. That increased to 3 times a week 5 weeks ago...
2 weeks ago my husband bought me my very first bike
since then I haven't looked back.....what started out as a half hour muck about in the park progressed to getting me around the back streets of London & gradually getting used to having the odd car go by me on the road......terrified isn't the word,
but I've stuck with it & over the past week my husband has been taking me out on some of the high streets, he rides behind me shouting out encouragement all the time.......my mileage has slowly been increasing & yesterday we went for my first destination ride which was 5 miles each way, we went to our local Decathlon store & got parts for my bike [pump, speedomeor mudgaurds etc; gloves, helmet & drinking bottle for me, & a couple of other bits]....had lunch with the ducks then went out again early evening for another 6.57 miles, so I did 16.57 miles in all......I'm so proud of me. Now I feel I can at last join this team....
My daughter & I have also signed up to do the London to Brighton bike run [54 miles] this June 17th so we're training for that also........8 weeks to go for the big day.....after that my goal is to the Bristol to London bike run [100 miles] which is in August.
