Karin, I joined around 5/1/08. Yeah, I've been here a while. At this point I'm fairly steady on weight but need to loose more. Not unhappy though as long as I stay steady. I do love the tools here, and also I enjoy the people, especially in my dance, photography, and Florida teams.

I've essentially finished my zumba tape for Adriana. She wants a couple of additions, so I'll make those, then post it and let you know so that if you wish you can view it. Keep in mind that I am not in that one...I'm the guy behind the camera this time.

Have a great day, and dance, dance, dance!
Tom

HI, Tom,

How long ago did you join SparkPeople? Is that when you decided to lose weight?

I have been dieting on and off most of my life. Not too much while I was in my 20s, but my first child was born when I was almost 29, and it has been downhill weight-wise ever since. With first two I left the hospital weighing about the same as when I became pregnant (which was more than it should be), but with the third who was born only 16 months after the second I came home 20 lbs heavier, and it seemed impossible to lose it. I finally joined Nutrisystem (when they still had store fronts) and finally lost all the weight I wanted. Then my mother-in-law came to stay with us for several months while recuperating from hip replacement surgery. Disaster!

That was in 1987-88. After that I would gain, lose a little, gain some more, etc, until in 2006 I was really heavy. I look at pictures of me then (we went on a safari that year and we have tons of pictures) and I cringe. Thank goodness I now weigh about 35 lbs less than my all-time high, but I still need to lose a lot.

I found out that I can go to Zumba Gold for free at the Senior Enrichment Center. Yes, it is not the version you go to, but I could try it out and see if I like it.

Today I had ballet again. It was fun and the nice part that my dance instructor is a fellow student. It doesn't bother him at all to take a class with his students. Our first dance instructor, a now crotchety man of 78, finds it difficult to stomach taking classes with us, so much so, that he is now taking private lessons with a weird lady in a small town about two hours away from here. Not too far for his lady friend, however. I think it might be because we have progressed so much that we can do some stuff much better than he can. We've been dancing since 2006 and he had taken lessons for 20 years or more....

We were pretty good friends and went on three dance cruises with him and his lady friend. I remember that one of the instructors was someone who had taken lessons with him back when he still lived in NJ, and he was put out to be in a lass taught by him.

Anyway, if you want to see what I look like you can probably look at my Facebook page, although you saw the video, didn't you, of us doing the paso doble.

Had a long day, time for bed....

Karin

Thanks Karin, about the "youthful" complement. I've got to tell you though, twelve years ago I was far older than I am now. Spark People has made a huge difference in how I feel. That includes both the weight loss that I have had and the exercise that I continue to do. And I still use the trackers on this site. Literally, I believe Spark People has been a life saver for me.

I didn't dance when I started this program. Now I do dance as much as I can, and I do zumba twice a week. Now I am not talking zumba gold...I'm talking the regular zumba with an extremely fast paced and energetic instructor. And to everyone's amazement (including mine), I actually keep up. Its kind of cool, you know, to be keeping up with a bunch of ladies and one other guy, most of whom are in their 20s and 30s. And frankly, I love it. I am, in fact, as much a zumba addict as I am a ballroom dance addict.

And yes, its amazing how close the 19th is...YIKES!

Best wishes,
Tom

The foxtrot / quickstep combo sounds really interesting. I'd love to see video of it after you have it put together and are ready to perform.

Joanie and I have a competition on the 21st and a performance on the 19th. We really need to work as we both feel quite unready for either.

Hi, Cat,

Foxtrot/quickstep mix is just that. Part of the routine will be to foxtrot music and the steps will be from both American style and International style foxtrot, and somewhere in the middle it will speed up and be quickstep. At least that's what I think; we have just discussed what dance to do and then afterwards we danced foxtrot so he could get a feel for exactly what I know and what I don't know (but should!!). Since we are not competing but only performing in the studio showcase, there is a lot of license taken with the choreography. Nobody is going to penalize us for doing something different. Now I am so looking forward to the next lesson. It is nice that it is all about me!!!

I don't know how old you are or how long you have been married, but I am approaching 60 and have been married for 38 years this summer. With three kids (who are now grown up) and a husband, very seldom has it been all about me! It was a very nice feeling!!!

On Monday I had two tango lessons. One was the basic bronze (beginners) and I joined that one for review. The second was the intermediate which is the rest of USA Dance bronze level. These lessons are part of a series of 8. Unfortunately, I will have only three of them by the time competition rolls around. Oh well, technique is king at the comps.

This afternoon Joanie and I have a four hour dance practice session. The first two hours are a mix of the six basic dances in smooth and rhythm. The second two hours are other dances such as V. waltz, mambo, etc. Since we need to concentrate on the basic six which are the ones we will be competing in, we may not stay for the second two hours, but rather, return home and dance in the garage (if it warms up enough). (That's not the best of places to practice, but it works).

Happy dancing everyone!

Hi K,
That sounds sooo cool. I too love the private lessons & as hubby doesn't dance they're always just all about me :)
Know what you mean about the practice, practice, practice.
Never hear of foxtrot/quickstep mix - I'm assuming this is not international?
Will the showcase be with your teacher or hubby in april?
Keep us updated.
Happy new year too :)

No competition for me yet!! I will be doing a showcase in April, though, and had my first private lesson last night for that. First we had to decide on a dance, so it will be a foxtrot/quickstep mix. But it was so nice to have a whole lesson of dancing with the instructor! (All my prior privates have been together with my husband.) He had a private lesson at the same time with the other instructor. They are a Lithuanian couple who, when they competed actively, were ranked 6th in the world in Latin. I'm sure Robertas is thinking that he has his work cut out for him.... Gotta practice, but as of yet we have just explored what I already know, so he knows what he can build on.

Happy New Year, Cat!

Its a good thing that the holidays are over. I did rather poorly with 8 Christmas parties and a New Year's party to boot. The New Year's party was a dance party and I danced nearly 4 hours, so that wasn't to bad.

I have a competition on Jan 21. Good grief, where did the time go? I feel totally unprepared. Looks like a busy three weeks for Joanie and I. :)

Best wishes for a wonderful year,
Tom

Well Christmas is over & another year has kicked off.
Hope it's a great one for everyone :)
Didn't do much dancing bar some salsa/bachata at new years eve party, so have lots to catch up on.
Haven't lost my 3kg either but 2kg on instead ! (Much celebrating will do that)
So have started back on the wagon this week as back to normal.
Using the food diary & back to practice today.
Weather here is desperate at the moment - storms, raining & windy - so no walking outside.
Going on skiing holiday 15th so have 2 weeks to get into some kind of shape as will be boarding for 2.5hrs every day.
How did the rest of you get on?

Today is a four hour practice session at Riverside. For very little entry, we get a floor and music for four hours (the six basic dances). The rest is up to us. These practice sessions have proven to be invaluable and something to look forward to. We get a lot done during those four hours. After this, though, there will be no dancing until after Christmas and a paucity of dancing next week. I am so looking forward to 2012 and all the dancing that will happen during that year starting right off the first week.

Merry Christmas Cat and to all the dancers who read this thread.

Hi Tom,
No practice yesterday as partner working later :(
No yogalates but did wrap presents & eat mince pies instead :)

Know how you feel on missing dancing - I too need my fixes.
However, unlike my swap of a garden you might get a chance to work in your over the christmas.
Do you have in pics of it on line? I'm thinking of taking some over christmas, if it ever stops raining long enough. These will be the 'before' shots as fences are down & some bloody hare is eating my new hedge !

On the comp front you'll be on 1 week before me, so am really looking forward to hearing how you get on. I'll be coming back from our ski trip in Italy that day but will be heading back to Dublin on the 28 to practice for the comp on the 29.
I'm also going to have a bashed at 3 closed individual standard dances - waltz, tango & v waltz (international) at low ? level as haven't been graded yet & think I'm still in Senior 1 until next April. We're also doing the currently 'crap' rumba too, V says one class with clean it up & I hope he's right :)
As for the open 5 standard, it too like your Royal Palm Challenge is a free for all with pre champs, etc. Just having fun here & hopefully, someone will take a video of that so I can see I've improved my posture & movement flow (fingers crosses) even if I still come 2nd last :)
Merry Christmas to you & J.
chat before the new year

Hi Cat,

Good to see you back on this forum. I guess you can review what I've been doing by reading back, but as far as goals go, this week and next promises to be a bit lax. The studio that I go to is going to be closed (except for some privates which I am not doing and zumba which I am doing...even zumba is not going to happen this Saturday due to it being Christmas eve). And Riverside, though practice is on for Thursday, will not be doing lessons until January. Now how on earth am I going to get my dance fix under these circumstances? :)

You have managed some enjoyable dancing and activity during these last few "lax" weeks, and this week you are getting off to a great start.

As for comps, our next competition will be January 21st. It will be held on the East coast near Fort Lauderdale in the town of Coconut Creek at the Royal Palm studio. I am looking forward to that. Joanie and I will compete in American Smooth and American Rhythm bronze level for Senior II and Senior I. We will then enter the Royal Palm Challenge which is open to everyone of all ages and proficiencies and which is not limited to syllabus steps. Of course, we are way out of our class with this one, but it gives experience so it will be fun. In fact, there will be no pressure because we know pretty much where we fit in compared with the others and its nowhere near the top. :)

Hi Guys,
Hope you're all well & looking forward to Santa visiting :)

Been very lax the last few weeks with the run up to Christmas & can't believe I'm on Week 8 already.
Where did the time go?
Not meeting my targets at all the last few weeks but haven't stopped all together - so taking that as a positive.

Week 6
Did manage 2 classes with V on rumba, learning to walk :)
Took a break & then did 2 more with B, v waltz techniques & learning to walk backward only.
Will move up to walking forward next time :)
Limiting my comp to only 1 Latin the Rumba as it's new & we won't have time to look at any others what with doing 3 individual standard dances as will as the open 5 standard.

Week 7
Not much as only did 1 hr of practice on Wednesday & a little practice on my one.
Yogalates think once for 30mins.

Week
this week so far
Yogalates 30 mins once
Practice today for 1hr planned
2 more 30 mins Yogalates planned
as well as hand washing my carpet in run in the sitting room - that should count big time:)

Weight going down & up so am disregarding the scales for now as I feel slimmer that I did, until the scales tells me otherwise. No going to stand on it again until 1st Jan 2012.
Will keep working on the stretching & exercise instead.

How are you guys getting on?
Any more comps in the horizon?

Merry Christmas,
Cat

Well, I was doing pretty well until the party last night. Lots of dancers but no dancing; lots of food. And it was so good! But today I shall have to get right back on track. I can afford an occasional day like that, but these are the holidays and we have way to many parties to go to. I shall need to be a bit more disciplined during my next parties if I am to maintain during these holidays.

This evening I shall forgo my cha cha lesson in order to review with the beginning dancers. It is the first time I've done that, but with the regular guy off on a dance cruise I have been asked. It means missing my lesson but they insisted that I was the only one left who could do this. Well, having been adequately buttered up, I agreed (reluctantly). And Don, our instructor, promised to show me the step we will be learning after the lessons are finished. Next week is a review of everything and so I should be able to catch up at that time.

Best wishes,
Tom

Hi All,
Well Week 6 started yesterday
Weight 76.5kg - not much change there
But people have mentioned that I look like I've lost weight, so the new wardrobe & standing up straighter must be working :)

Crazy busy the last few weeks but not with the yogalates or dancing.
However, this week I'm setting weekly & daily goals to get back on track.

Plan for today.
30min of Rumba practice
30mins of Yogalaties

Plan for tomorrow.
120 mins of dance class. - weather premitting

How are you guys all doing?

Hi Cat,
Joanie is doing much better and should soon be back on the dance floor, provided she continues to improve. Glad you resolved your foxtrot problem. Samba is fun but hard on the knees. :)

Sun. was the tea dance at Rhythm in Motion about 2.5 hours of dance.
Mon. was Riverside and cha cha lessons l.5 hours.
Tues. was zumba 1 hour.
Wed. / Thur. No dancing...ugh!
Tonight is the international cha cha lesson and then dance party at RIM. (I should do about 2 hours of dancing).
And Saturday will be another 60 minute zumba workout.

Hi T,
Hope J is feeling better :) Was admiring your v waltz & you wouldn't know you were sick at all. Way to keep the show going.
End of week 2's update
Sat did 1 class with B on foxtrot - used to be able to dance this but now it's all gone to hell so wanted to know why. Found out it was my weight placement from the end of the reverse turns so am doing an exercise to keep my weight always forward to correct this :)
Latin should have been easy after that but V decide to teach me Samba - 12 steps later & I'm going to have to practice the bounce, weight over balls of foot, flexing leg & hip rolls ALOT !!!!!#
But it was still fun.
Week 3 - update so far
Sun - nothing (visiting friend & travelling back from Dublin)
Mon - 60 mins Yogalates ( 1st time for full video :))))
Tues, Wed, Thur- noting (resting my foot)
Planned for Fri & Sat - 120 mins Yogalates

Up 1lb but down in inches.

Bit all over the place this week but am going to be more organised going forward.
How are the rest of you all getting on?

Joanie has a torn ligament and will not be able to dance for 4 weeks or more. This has resulted in a bit of a cut in dancing for me. Specifically, Wednesday and Thursdays are out. I will continue to do Mondays (lesson), Tuesday and Saturday (zumba), and dance party on Fridays. Joanie will go with me to the party to socialize but will not dance. So...
Monday: 90 minutes
Tuesday: 60 min.
Friday:120 min.
Saturday: 60 min.

(This coming Sunday I will go to a tea dance from 4 to 7, so figure about 120 - 150 minutes toward next week.) :)

Looking good T :)
you're doing some a good bit out of hold too, we don't do any of that !
next time I hope you're feeling much better as then you'll be able to relax more (which I'm told is the key)
it's funny but I didn't believe it could look so different but when I compared my slow waltz (1st dance) with my quickstep (most practiced) you can really see the difference in the hold body. It just seem to look smoother all rounds.
But considering you're only do this for 1yr + I think is was great, keep up the good work :)

No practice yesterday as partner held up at work & no yogalates today - planning our skiing trip instead - such hard work !!!!. Will do some tomorrow instead.

Mentioned your offer of spiders to hubby & he rolled around the floor laughing - he know's there's not much I'd hate more !!!

Thank you Karen. I have danced contra for over 25 years and English country for about 4 years, but started ballroom dancing about 1 year and 7 months ago. (I did do some social dancing when I was in 6th and 7th grades, and then in high school.)

Hi dancers,

OK, I promised a video of the solo Michaela and I performed at the Showcase. Keep in mind that this was being danced by two rather sick people (stomach flu). Here it is:

I do hope that you enjoy it.

Hi, Cat,

My week is going fine. Last night we had cha cha and quickstep classes and they were a lot of fun. On Friday we have a social dance and on Sunday we have classes in bolero and silver American foxtrot.

I find I lose weight fairly easily when I stick to my program, which is a big salad with a protein added (like half a grilled chicken breast, tuna, piece of steak, ham or whatever) for lunch and for dinner and I drink all the water, at least 64 oz for the day.

To make it easy for myself, I cut up lettuce (I like romaine) and bag it, then I cut up cucumbers, peppers (green, yellow, red and orange) and put them in containers. Then I take them with me to the office and for lunch I can easily fix a big salad. I use a low-fat dressing (Newman's Own Light Balsamic Vinaigrette) and try to use less than 2 tbsp of it. Then I bring a grilled chicken breast, cut it in half and slice one half for one salad and the other for dinner or next day's lunch. We buy a lot of chicken when it is on sale, marinate it and grill a big quantity at once and then we freeze the grilled chicken breasts. That way we are only a microwave away from having tasty chicken available (or thaw in fridge over night).

Sometimes, when steak is on sale we will do the same thing with it.

If I run out of the cooked meat I might use canned tuna or a hard-boiled egg. We bought some salmon on sale, too, but we usually cook it when we are ready to eat it.

I also try to exercise. Three times a week we do strength training, mostly with dumb bells, but we also use a contraption called TRX, which was invented by a Navy Seal who wanted his men to be able to stay fit anywhere. Google it, if you are interested. There is a lot of information about it online. In addition, we do planks, push-ups, etc. Once a week a personal trainer comes to our house and puts us through his torture routine. We and us refer to me and my husband. He is not dieting, per se, but he is wanting to get stronger as he has low bone density. The other days we try to get in some cardio (not always successful) in addition to our dancing.

So that is it. I want to lose a total of 48 more pounds, but I am breaking it into smaller chunks with specific deadlines, to make it more manageable. So by Thanksgiving I was intending to have lost 7.4 more pounds. Not sure that it is attainable, since Thanksgiving is on Nov 24, 3 wks from tomorrow. Maybe, maybe not. I am not going to obsess over it, as long as it is going in the right direction.

Back to work....

Hi Cat,
I'm much better but still recovering. Meanwhile, my wife experienced the first signs of this darned bug. I just hope she doesn't have to go through it, but I have a horrible feeling that she is going to experience pretty much what I did.

Yes, there will be a video of the solo. I hope to work on that one today, though doubt I'll finish. I've got a lot of other things to get done...things that were put off during the last two days or so of showcase and sickness.

By the way, just drop me your address...I'll ship you a whole zoo full of various and sun dried arachnids, all in living state with eggs as a bonus. LOL

Hi Tom,
Sounds like the bug is on the out, so you'll soon be back on the dance floor. Saw some photos on facebook did you also mention a video? looking forward to seeing it.
PS also J's spider - you can keep those, luckily the ones over here are not as frightening or dangerous.

Hi Karen,
How is your week going?

Further update for week 1
50 mins of Yogalaties yesterday :) (still haven't finished all 3 sections but am now into the 3rd one)
1hr dance practice planned for after work.

Really wish my foot would sort it's self out as it is still a bit weak & throwing off my placements.
Might have two sessions on 12th with Vitaly & Brian respectively, so need it better soon :)

Thanks Cat...I'll be OK. Starting to recover today. Actually eating small (very small) servings of a few things and keeping it down.

And Karen, I am on the mend...but no, it was not nerves. I actually enjoy these things (competitions and showcases). My solo partner was sick too, and considering the amount of work we did together to get ready I suspect that we may have caught it from each other (well, one of us likely passed it to the other). I've had a flu shot, but that only handles certain vicious strains of flu, and there are a lot of other flu like viruses out there ready to do what these things do.

Sunday morning I was not feeling well...Yikes!...Showcase day. I danced the heats and the solo, and we got positive feedback, though I have yet to see the judges critique. I was not able to eat and lost anything I had in my stomach before returning home. Joanie drove coming home needless to say. Yesterday was a complete loss. I was able to drink a little water last night and even consumed a few whole wheat crackers.

Today I appear to be on the mend. I am still extremely weak, but I was able to eat a small breakfast. I won't be dancing this evening though. Nor tomorrow. Hopefully on Thursday I'll be back at it.

Hi K,
Congrats on the weight loss you're doing so well & I'm so glad you enjoyed your comp :) We've another in april also so planning to be even lighter too. I've 2st to lose altogether but find if I focus on the food side I start eating all around me. (as happened this weekend)
So am going to eat what I want when I want but not as much. I'll see how that goes & focus on the dancing & Yogalaties in a BIG way instead.
What did you do to lose so much? Perhaps you can provide some tips & maybe we can help out each other? I have some pictures due from the last comp so will post these as before, I'm looking forward to seeing the afters :)

I've not been to Sweden yet :) but believe it is very beautiful. Sligo is in the north west & famous for William Butler Yeats (poet) & Westlife (boyband) !

Hi T,
How did the comp go?

Update for Week 1.
Dancing - 240 mins (4 hours ballroom & latin workshops on monday)

Hi, Tom,

Good luck tomorrow!! I give you a lot of credit for being so physically active; if more people were they would benefit so much!!

Let us know how it went afterwards!!

Karin

P.S. My ticker has been updated to show what I would like to have lost by Thanksgiving. I need to divide it into chunks to give me more of a feeling of accomplishment. It is harder to look at it and see that you still have 40 lbs to go! :-(

Hi, Cat,

I live in North Carolina, US, but I grew up in Sweden. I was just in my very first showcase this past Saturday, when my husband and I and two other couples performed a team paso doble. That was soooo much fun that we may do a team tango in April and then I will do a dance with our male instructor and my husband will do one with the female instructor. Our instructors are from Lithuania (but haven't lived there for the last 11 yrs) and were ranked 8th in the world in Latin before they stopped competing (other than pro/am with their students).

Since we decided to be in the showcase I have managed to lose 10 lbs (showcase coming up in a few weeks was a powerful motivator!!) and I have announced to everybody I know, just about, that I intend to lose 30 more by the next showcase which will be late Apri. I am really hoping to lose 40 lbs by then, but I will be very happy if I succeed in losing the 30.

I haven't heard of Sligo before and I have never been to Ireland, although I have traveled a fair amount.

We drive 3 hrs round trip every Tuesday and every Sunday for dancing, and also every 2nd and 4th Friday of the month. We enjoy it so much, but we really wish that we had started dancing when we were much younger!! We see these "kids" (in their mid-20's) who are participating in DanceSport and they dance so beautifully and we wish we could dance like them!! Oh well, at least we are getting better and better!

Have fun!

Karin

Tomorrow is showcase day. Today I'll be getting ready.

Thursday I discovered that the CD I prepared with our solo music failed to play in their player. Today I'll be getting that ready. Also have to get my three outfits together (smooth tux; rhythm shirt; and solo costume). My costume consists of a white shirt that was a part of an outfit that I used to wear to English country dance balls (17th century duds) plus a sequined vest that was given me. I'll wear my tux slacks throughout the evening. The costume is for my part as a sorcerer. I cannot wear a cape because it intertwines (quite literally) with my partners gown. We are dancing Viennese waltz and the tune is the Sorcerer's waltz that was the Harry Potter theme from one of the movies. Once I have the video (and hopefully it will be OK when I am away from the camera), I shall trim that part into a video and post it. I'll post the link here for sure, and other places within the dancers forum. It should be relatively simple so I shall quickly put it together before working on the DVD that I will be making. The DVD covers the entire evening (heats and solos) and will probably actually be two DVDs. These will be sold as a set by our chapter of USA dance and a part of the proceeds donated to USA Dance chapter 6049. Oh, the showcase is a USA Dance chapter 6049 event and thus the connection.

Now then, if I can curtail my excitement over the upcoming showcase, I shall try to accomplish a part of what I need to do today. :)

Hi T,
Will check that as I assumed our windy weather was knocking the connection out. Know the size was ok but hadn't checked the type. I've already some converters so will let you know how I get on.

Hi K,
I live in Sligo, Ireland & work in kg or stones. And yes you're right 14lbs to the stone.

I wasn't worried about my level for the first one as the ONLY way is UP :) & I wanted to get the feel without stressing about grading so only entered the Open 5 dance standard.
Will be aiming to do that, the Open 5 dance latin & a few graded indivdual dances next time. Also working locally on my bronze medal next month, so that will get my footwork back on track. The past 3 years I've gone backwards on my ballroom from lack of good practice & have been dancing salsa instead. This year I made a strategic decision to work on my ballroom as I've missed it sooo much. Hence going to Dublin (6-7hr return trip) to get more in depth tutition & then found out about the comp so decided to partake.
These comps have only started this year & run once a quarter so I'll be spending less on clothes next year & more on dancing :)

Off to try video upload now.
Take care
C

Hi Cat,

Sorry to hear that you are having difficulty uploading video to facebook. I never have a problem with that. I do have a theory though. Check facebook for allowable file formats. Then see if your video file format matches one of them. If not, there are free software packages with which you can change file formats. (See NONAGS.com). It takes some searching but they are there.

Just an idea. Good luck.

Hi Cat,

It isn't the weight that is keeping me from competing (well, maybe a little) as much as the skills. I know that I am not making the turns sharply enough in Latin, etc. But, what I meant was that when I weigh less some of the things I have problems with now may be easier to execute properly. We'll see. It is also fairly expensive to compete, which is another consideration. Where do you live that you are measuring weight in stones? Is 1 stone equal to 14 lbs?

Hi Karin & Tom,
Yip posting my goals worked last time.
I may not have met them all them time but it does keep me more focused.
Will let you know how I get on :)
Today did 30mins of yogalaties - couldn't finish it all as was hard work so will work on completing the 60mins over the next few weeks.

Karin, don't let the weight stop you from competing & perhaps only limit yourself to 1 event initially & work from there. That's what I'm doing, would, however, advise more than 5 hrs training :)
I'm using this comp as my baseline. Then I can see the changes as I progress next year.
One of the girls in the comp lost 4 stone & dropped 4 dress sizes in over 10 months since she started. That's def an inspriation.

check out ballroomdancematters for the forum details if the link doesn't work :)

No dancing planned today/sat/sun as my poor foot is still sore, so will rest it before the 4hrs of dance classes scheduled for monday.
PS videos don't want to upload to facebook easily but as still working on it.
Take care & keep those feet moving.

Hi, Cat,

Good luck! Doesn't feel good to publicly state your goals? That way one feels guilty when not adhering to the regimen. That's why I did it.

I would love to compete, but I don't feel that I am accomplished enough yet. Maybe when I have lost the weight I want to lose it'll be easier. It is one of my goals to compete within two years.

Hi All,
Just created this new link as I'm setting a 3 month challenge to improve my dancing skills for the next Pro/Am (or as we call it here Student/Teacher) Ballroom Standard & Latin competition.
Goals are.
1. Take longer steps.
For this I'll need to increase me flexibility.
Anyone got any good stretches they can recommend?
2. Keep my frame.
For this I'll need have a better core & some upper body strength. I've a yogalaties cd that I'm going to do 3 times a week to help with this. Right now that seems like a pretty tall order 1hr of yogalaties 3 days a week but am going to do the beginner exercises for the first month & then see how I get on.
3. Move faster & lighter on the floor.
For this I need to be lighter ! This will increase my stamina & also improve my moves.
Plan to do 300mins of dancing a week in both latin & ballroom, partner & non partner practice. I'm also planning to start back to swimming next week (1day) & will be back on my bike each Sunday. Also will be cutting down on the chips & bread.
So that's it for today.
Will be starting my challenge on Sunday for real but might get a bit of yogalaties practice in today/tomorrow.
Anyone one wishing to join me is very welcome :)
Keep those feet moving as life's too short to miss any dancing :)
