MIne wasn't QUITE that easy--I couldn't stand up straight for a week!--but then, I have fibromyalgia-- and surgery automatically triggers a pretty major flare-up...every time! LOL

RUSSELL is right though, for the majority of people this type of surgery is a walk in the park...

I had my gallbladder removed in Feb 2011. I woke up with pain in my side and the next day it got so bad I called 911. They gave me antibiotics, and the next morning popped it out. By noon I was walking laps in the hospital, and home by 4 p.m.

It is one of the easiest surgeries to have. My diet has not changed in any way. The scar is about an inch long. The pain is worse than the surgery.

It's KIND OF okay to wait... sometimes the gallstones themselves change that in a hurry though. I had these horrid abdominal spasms, and landed in the ER one night-- they did an ultrasound, and found that I I had a gallbladder that was filled with what the technician called "sludge"--it turns out that it was thousands of tiny stones, like grains of sand. Talk about irritating your digestive tract! LOL

I had the surgery about a month later, they wanted a little time to try and reduce the inflammation first. It wasn't any more--or less--painful than what I'd already been through, but I know my SIL had to have an emergency surgery for hers--a stone almost ruptured her bile duct! Don't wait too long... make sure your doctors are kept informed along the way!

I did a search last week on the foods to avoid and the ones I saw were confusing. Some said to avoid things that the others said to eat. My friend's doctor told her what to avoid.

Betsy, I hope that all goes well for you with this and the other problems you are having. Hope that you don't have to wait too long to get your surgery.

Betsy, I have not had to give up any of those foods. The only problem I have is if I eat something too high in fat (potato chips, potato salad) and that is related to Gastro Esophogal Reflux Disorder.
Also I forgot to mention the reason most surgeries are easier is they can do them laporosopically (sp?). Just 3 small incisions that heal much more easily than the large abdominal incision.
At the point I was at when I knew I had a problem there was no dissolving them so I don't know about that part.

If you have a gallbladder attack you won't question if you want surgery. My mom didn’t know she had gallbladder problems until she was in severe pain and throwing up all night. Like the previous poster, she couldn’t explain why she didn’t call for help. Later she thought the intolerable pain kept her from thinking clearly. The next day her doctor referred her to a specialist. The specialist put her on a special diet for four months to reduce gallbladder inflammation before Laparoscopic surgery. The diet restricted the foods you mentioned--and a lot more. My mother’s surgery went well. Recovery was quick and relatively pain free. After surgery she can eat anything she wants. You might want to ask your doctor if the diet would decrease chances of a gallbladder attack while you take care of other medical problems. You could also Google “gallbladder diet” to learn which foods can affect your gallbladder. Get well soon!

i found most of the information i needed from everyday health... they did mention a p rocedure that dissolved them instead of removing the gall bladder... but i have been suffering for years off/on... my first ultrasound a few years ago did not reveal them... last weeks did..
i also checked into procedures... unless they run into other complications.. they will drill 4 holes and remove that way... similar to my shoulder surgery...

jan...after your surgery... was it hard to give up the list of foods i have been reading?? eggs.. dairy..brussel sprouts.. cauliflower..pizza fried foods... yea i can learn to live without them.. but i guess no more chinese... lol

About 10 years ago I had gall bladder attacks about 6 months apart that laid me low for a week at a time. The first one I thought was flu. The last one I was up all night with pain and throwing up. Have no clue why I waited til morning to go to ER and they removed my gall bladder the next day. I have felt so much better since and recovery wasn't as long as other surgeries (like hysterectomy). Good luck with getting his taken care of.

I am interested in this, too. I have not had a diagnosis yet, but have had symptoms from what I have been told. I have a CT scan scheduled in June (CT because of some other pains). If anyone knows a natural way to get rid of gall stones I would be interested, too.

Oh Betsy, I have no advice to offer. Just some prayers that you don't have much pain. My sisters both had gall stones removed..but not their gall bladder. And that gall stone removal wasn't too bad a surgery.

Hope everything works out for you!
