well you know that is why medical costs are sky high if my doc did that any of them..i would be charged 320 dollars total and that's for one visit even if they broke it into two..those things are not going to change unless we make them change and as a medicare patient you deserve the same quality of care as a private paying person low income or not..those things won't change if we don't fight for what is right for sure there is a standard of care expected of each and every one of those docs no matter where they serve or who and since you have had this doc for awhile i would let them know exactly what i expected

My problem is I go to the low income county hospital system (clinics are part of that system) and am on their medicare program. My doctor is the only one that people seem to trust at that clinic, so everyone wants her for their doctor, so the clinic people are trying to change people to other doctors. They just started making people go back for results of their tests instead of letting them know the results when they call for them. I have been getting my oncology testing done before my appointment so that I can get results at the time of my appointment there. I guess I will have to get my other results from him in 2 weeks. I do think it is ridiculous that they make you go back for a 2nd appointment. Come to think of it, when I first went there they did that, too, but after getting to know my doctor I could call and ask for results and she or the nurse would call me back.

My friend usually has to get an appointment to get her test results, too. She has Kaiser and they require another appointment. Somehow she managed to get the results of an ultrasound the day of the test last week, though.

you need to call the american medical assn and i'm sure they have an 800 number and report this and i would call that office back and tell them you are going to and you have test results and they are not giving them to you and then call the insurance company you deal with and tell them you were charged and no one will give you test results unless you maker an appointment with another doc..you should not have to pay twice to get results from blood tests..that angers me because so many people do it because that is the way they think it should be done..those blood tests were part of the last visit my friend and you get out there and make waves..i am lucky mine come in on the computer and then the doc sends me a written copy in the mail that he has signed and made comments if he needs to doc want a lot of money but part of the visit is the results of any test he or she ordered..mave waves friend

I have a question. I don't know if it fits in here or not, but I think the original question said something about a long wait before getting results. Has anyone had problems with their appointments being cancelled when they would have been getting their results and having a problem checked? My tests were drawn on the 20th of March and I was supposed to go back on the 10th. This week they called and said I either change doctors or cancel my appointment. Since I have had problems with other doctors there, I am not willing to change doctors all the time. I am wondering if my doctor thinks I am too much of a bother and doesn't want me for a patient anymore. i haven't gotten my results and will need new prescriptions by the first part of May. If she doesn't want me for a patient anymore I have no idea how to find another doctor I can trust.

Does the fact that they cancelled my appointment mean that my tests came out okay?

Thank you. I will try working on that.

They draw blood from my hand now, but that is starting to hurt bad. The IV will not work there, especially one for an MRI. They did that once when my port was blocked and I thought they were setting my arm on fire. The port had to be taken out because it got completely blocked.

ice the water i was the same way and i only drink spring water from the bottle now wen from getting sick all the way to drinking 14 or more cups a day now
now for the veins..put your elbow up on the table and squeeze the arm a few times..halfway between the elbow and the hand on the on the backside you will see a blue vein there make a fist a few more times and watch it pop right out the iv therapist at the hospital showed me that trick as she popped that iv in before i knew it..my veins are not so much tiny as they are fragile and unless you get that one in the bend or on the backside as she did they blow out and infiltrate so the iv people now listen to what i have to say they ave a hard time visualizing that view as others as it goes in the opposite of what they normally do and to solve that lay on your side away from them and the vein will lay in the same direction as on the other side do this popping like i told you and see what happens..and then convince the iv and blood people that is the place to get it out lol best advice i ever got in the emergency room for sure

Actually, my A1c was around 5.6 when I was going through chemo and radiation. I have been in remission for over 6 years (actually 7 since the numbers were down right after surgery). I just get a lot of anxiety when I have the annual checks and I will have anxiety if they send me for an MRI, which either my PCP or the oncologist might do. My veins are really small and they have to have an ultrasound to find any they can do an IV in.

I have to learn to drink more water and maybe my veins will stretch a little bit. I will also get lower numbers in both the A1c and CA125 (cancer screen) if I drink more. I just can't seem to get it down without getting a stomach ache.

well fancy for someone going through oncology stuff.. the 8 is not all bad for sure..you are haviing 'attacks' on your body cells and stresses and no matter what you do until that is over expect higher a1cs..i went up to 16 plus when i had chemo and radiation the deal is you still have to eat and on some days that is hard..my endo told me i had to eat or the cure for the disease would kill me so you do what you have to do to save your life
my endo did the same thing when the kidneys failed i follw a kidney diet to avoid dialysis and save my kidneys..an a1c won't save you if you don't have your kidneys again he was right
so talk to an endo and see what you can do

My doctor will do either fasting or not A1c, but cholesterol testing fasting and she usually wants to do them at the same time. I had mine done the 20th and won't get results of them until the 10th of April since I had to make another appointment to ask about something else. Otherwise I might have not found out the results until the 17th when my oncology appointment is. They have too few doctors at the clinic for the number of patients and my doctor is the one that most people want.

I am hoping that my A1c went down. It was 8.0 in December and 7.6 or 7.4 the first week of February. The one that makes me anxious is the one for the oncology appointment, though.

I hope you have a good appointment and that your results turn out like you want them.

Another one . . . my Dr. does the A1C fasting.

What have your daily FBs's been? That would give you a hint of things as far as the A1C. A week to wait? That seems long to me.

Hugs and hang in there. Lady Mary gave you wise advice.

We are all rootin' for you. Think small thoughts. Ask your doc if he can do an instant read test - he may charge you 17 bucks (insurance companies have weird rules), but it could put your mind at rest. Since you've been working hard for two months, you should ace that test! 8-)

Good luck on your A1C results. The waiting is the hardest part. Personally I don't like the test. You got that over with. Good luck!

my goodness a fasting a1c since when and then a week to wait for the results..they do sell those over the counter now mmost drugstores a1c are not done fasting..you must be fasting for cholesterol they don't even do fasting blood sugars any longer but the a1c as it gives you a number that takes into account that the life of a red blood cell is approximately three months and it collects that sugar but wht was the cholesterol reading last time?? what kind of a diet are you on??
if you have to do insulin take it and run with it..if you are afraid of needles kknow thins ..they are so tiny now i have to wear glasses to see that they go in lol and i was terrified of needles because i remember my grandmothers 'apparatus' yowzias we have certainly come a long way my friend..with insulin you have the control..with pills you have none REALLY ONCE YOU TAKE IT i vote for control everytime as i spent yearss on pills but you can't adjust pills to your needs
talk with a diabetic nutritionist and decide how to work the the food..it becomes surprisingly easy after a short period of time you learn from them how to do stuff
DRINK THE WATER..IT IS GREAT FOR YOUR BODY DON'T BE AFRAID YOU CAN DO IT
AND IF YOU ADD MOVEMENT AND WEIGHT CONTROL TO ALL THIS YOU WILL FIND WITH TIME YOUCAN CONTROL IT WITH DIET AND EXERCISE it is being done daily on the teams here
be joyful that you have this disease that can make you healthier in the long run if you practice it..it took me several weeks to not have to talk to myself about the 'injection' before i did it..now it's a piece of cake for sure
welcome to spark people

tomorrow is my fasting A1C test. i am anxious. the last time i went from 7.0 to 8.1. i had been walking daily and NOT eating TOO BADLY. i was blown away. the doc upped my meds, and i have really really upped my game over the last 2 months. the first month i was depressed and shocked and didnt do very well.

so, tomorrow is the day. and unfortunately i have to wait a week for results, which will also make me anxious.

i am afraid of what might happen if my numbers arent better. i am afraid of spiraling, i am afraid of insulin, i am afraid of getting really depressed.

i am not sure i'll be able to handle this...

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE LET MY HARD WORK HAVE HELPED.
