Yes, diet soda is on the list as a "free" food. The trouble with diet soda is that they usually contain an artificial sweetener such as Aspertaime. The manufacturers claim it to be a natural derivative of sugar (or have I mixes that with one of the other "wonderful artificial sweeteners made by man......) because it is made from sugar, but it is really just a chemical.....
But there are lots of other things on the list that are not chemicals and not processed and still free.....
Lemon juice, vinegar, even plain water (what a concept, lol)
I saw the list and read it too. It mostly processed. Condiments are not natural foods they are broked down in some manner. I've check the list checked it twice and some of it naughty instead of nice To each his own.

Yep. Processed foods are out for other reasons for me as well... called phosphates, the preservatives used to increase shelf life for most of them... too much is VERY bad for your kidneys, and too much really isn't much at all! LOL
I agree that the only thing "free" is air... I even have to count fiber as carbs, and take insulin according to how many carbs I eat. Sorry, but the exchanges never did work for me... I'm glad there are some people who can still make that work!
