Being a *pre-diabetic* my doc (either of them) wouldn't give me a target range. The range I've developed has been based on Bernsteins *normal* ranges. I'm testing very frequently and will adjust my dose if I start going/staying too low. I am no longer having the false hypo responses as my body is getting used to the lower numbers. Much nicer by far. I seem to have adjusted to the metformin dose as well. Taking the XR version at nite has been a real godsend on my fasting numbers. A split dose of the xr has kept my numbers generally below 110 at almost all points. I'll add back some carbs or modify the lower carb if this is consistent. Again, will test...test....test.!! Thank goodness for Walmarts brand monitors!

I'm happy you're making such progress... my doctor won't let me get down quite that far, since I'm what they call a "brittle" diabetic--which basically means that now and then my body decides to make its own insulin bolus and throw things off--and I could be in big trouble with an A1C that low... I got my A1C down to 6.4, and he's thrilled though watchful, because I'm having some fairly frequent dips into an uncomfortable range, 60 or less... NOT desirable! LOL

We do have to be sure we know where our doctors want us to be and stick to that, don't we... I know, I know, easier said than done! LOL

Keep up the good work!

I have had good results with it when I have followed the directions exactly. I don't MOVE anything after I've input the blood. I understand the results may be a bit lower than the lab result would be, but This is lower by a great bit. My goal (personally) has been to get it under 5.5. Very happy with 5.1

Great news! It's good to know those home tests work, as I've been curious. Looks you are doing everything right.

Just took a home A1c test....last time I took it I got a 5.9 reading. That was just a week into my Metformin XR change and I was very disappointed with it as I had been low carbing for quite a while. I knew my fastings were off, though.
A month later I have gotten my best reading since beginning this journey!! 5.1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can you tell I'm a bit excited? I have two more months until I go back to see the endo for a followup. At this rate she will be most surprised!. Just had to share with someone that understands what it means!
