like kathy i wouldn't go back to pills again ever..and i lost 273 pounds and have kept it off going on 5 years now and all i use is insulin...i am a believer that any weight gain is mostly because people feel better and they love to eat..just as when you feel bad you don't eat because nothing tastes good..of course that may be simplistic but it works for me and i take a who slew of drugs that 'cause weight gain' the lady mary

i can do that, but not on a tuesday for that is my day of thrust in the opposite direction - off the starboard bow over the hurdles, and down the shute.

people often say that motivation doesn't last. well neither does bathing - that's why we recommend it daily. zig ziglar
I HATED being on oral meds. Once I started the insulin, I couldn't imagine going back...
And just so you know, there often is, but there doesn't HAVE to be weight gain with insulin... it lowers your blood sugar by allowing the sugar into cells for use--and sure, it gets rid of any excess by storing it as fat. That's insulin's job--BUT...
...if you control the amount of carbs and total intake of calories, you can to an extent control the level of excess... tricky, but I know people who do it--and I'm working on it! LOL
I've just had my calorie and insulin levels increased--and LOST 4 pounds so far. It is not easy, believe me, but it's not impossible either-- and I can do it! I CAN! I. M . DOING. IT.
That means too! And who knows, if we all do it well enough, maybe it will take less medication, y'think? A person has to hope, y'know... LOL
And at least the insulin is something that's SUPPOSED to be in your body! LOL
"The real secret of success is enthusiasm..." thanks, Walter P. Chrysler. I believe it. That's what I want in my life--to give my imagination a chance, to live with energy and enthusiasm! P.S. I looked up enthusiasm, and it says the root words mean God within... interesting...!
Ralph Waldo Emerson said 'Life belongs to the energetic.' But you don't have to be frenetic and hyper--some energy is quiet and steady, like a heartbeat... and that works too! LOL
those tv ads for the drugs & for the lawsuits combined make me terrified to take any drug, confused and untrusting of any advice.... it seems like they just don't know the long term effects yet, but we do know the long term effects of uncontrolled diabetes.... death and other intolerable and chronic deadly health problems. Makes me wonder if an all insulin therapy would be safest.

So many drugs have detrimental effects on some people. But they still are deemed safe for most, and the Medical community feels the benefits outweigh the bad effects.
You have to determine whether the risk is worth it to YOU. How your body is going to react. And which risk is worth it...do you live with very high blood glucose, with all it's known inherent factors of vascular, eye, kidney, heart damage risk, or, take the drug that will keep it at lower level everyday, with maybe bad side effects down the road?.
It's a lose - lose situation..Not a perfect solution, to a certain problem...
