...good point, Val. Novalog and Humalog ARE different... Once, I had my injection sites swell up like crazy, welts the size of my palm--turns out, I'm ALLERGIC to Novalog! LOL

I use Humalog six or more times a day, with no problems...

(Hi, Mary!)

"The real secret of success is enthusiasm..." Walter P. Chrysler said it, I believe it. That's what I want in my life--to give my imagination a chance, to live with energy and enthusiasm!

Ralph Waldo Emerson said 'Life belongs to the energetic.' But you don't have to be frenetic and hyper--some energy is quiet and steadfast... and that works too! LOL

Life comes in specific increments, which we receive as a gift of one moment at a time. That's why it's called the PRESENT!

Well, here's the scoop. Spending 3 and a half weeks running back and forth to visit husband in the hospital, change in eating habits and increase in exercise and activity hit home with blood sugars.
So, Humalog Units cut from 12 to 8 Units twice a day, Glyburide from 5 mg twice a day to 5 mg in morning and 2.5 mg at night. So far so good. Now with hubby being home, activity with his care has increased everything aside from no visiting. So indeed I am getting a workout that is not on tape or in the books.
Will see PCP at the end of the month and will keep you all posted. Good Luck to All!

my advice is to google glyburide and read it closely..it is genrally the culprit..and most docs prescibe it because people forget or don't use the insulin properly (it's a thing that happens)..generally your sugars ccan be controlled with diet exercise and i am down to novalog now after being on a whole slew of things..low blood sugar are a classic sign in the the use of glyburide google and read and ask the doc

Switched night dosage of Humalog to 8 Units as advised and that seems to be working at present. Morning dosage holding at nine Units. Seems that there is a big difference between Novolog and Humalog. Yet Humalog is much better at 2 shots a day then Novolog at 6 a day and Lantus at 2. Making 2 shots a day compared to 10 shots a day. That's one reason I would like this plan management to work. If I stay diligent I hope to make it work.

Valerie.........I know that is not the problem. That problem has not happened in many a year.
How every there is always the stress hormone. which is cortisol but, that one will increase blood glucose. Keeping a good eye on nutrition, fitness and those stress levels.

Michele, are you having periods? Many women find their insulin needs change dramatically either just before their period starts or during it. That's another factor to consider...

Few suggestions from Doc. today as morning fasting was up today at 84. Will hold on dosage of 9 Units for 2 days, then I am to call her again. It just might be the switch from Novolog to Humalog. Not sure on the Glyburide yet.........Michele

I had a similiar problem the last couple of months.but mime was either too high or to low even though my diet has not change. My draw. Lowered my lantus to 20 units and has Mr taking 5 units of novolog at dinner. If bad is lower than 120 at bed time I am to stink a hlucerma. I have been doing this got 3 weeks. Blood sugar is running daily average 110. If I were you I would contact your draw. Carol

You've recently switched from Novalog to Humalog?

I know several insulin pumpers who swear those insulins act differently. That could be your problem.

Yes I have lost five lbs the first of January, reason for changing from Novolog, to Humalog by the Doc. Glyburide was not added till the last week in January. Since my husband was admitted on the 21st of January for a broken hip and surgery, I have been walking the halls to and from the parking lot and in between. Daily calories and Carbs. are well over my Doc's recommendations. so all this should be an increase in blood sugars and not a decrease. All of these lows have only started since hubby's admission to the hospital.
I am not a believer, in the body all of a sudden producing natural Insulin. Have asked her to do a C-peptide though.

Have you lost weight recently?

I've had to keep reducing the amount of insulin I pump as I lose weight.

I can only say for ME stress generally will make my blood sugar rise. But couple of things:

1. I would call the Drs. ofc. to let them know you are adjusting your Humalog as directed but still having the same lows. They should see you SOONER rather than LATER!

2. Could it be an issue that you need adjustment on your oral pill too??? Maybe the combo is too much??

3. Do you track your nutrition?? Maybe for some reason your calories need to be adjusted with the adjustment in your Humalog, too.

Good luck and let us know what happens.

no advice for injections?? But I remember once when taking glyburide 5 daily numbers kept dropping it was scary after 10 glucose pills and a meal it finally came up to 140. Isn't it funny how we have to diagnose ourselves...too bad we don' t get paid for it. Probable not much help. Others will help better than I.

I did last Tuesday, that is why I am adjusting Insulin down - one unit at a time. Have an appointment at end of month. Hoping some one else has had this problem with the stress issue.

Thanks for your post in answer.

Did you raise you Humalog? I am not experienced with injections so will let others answer for me but I do know that 40-60 is too low. Call your doctor for advice.

Stress has always elevated my blood sugars. However, this past two weeks my fasting blood sugars have been between 44 and 60. Frequently this has continued throughout the day. One week ago I adjust my Humalog dosage as instructed but it is still continuing. I know that without cell transplant, the body can not begin to produce its own Insulin once again. My Glyburide is at 5mg twice a day.

Has anyone experienced something similar?
