My dear Pat: Yes, I am so very happy that Mom is eating again. She is a fairly picky eater, but I have lots of the things she enjoys. Sometimes it means making something different for her, but that's all right. Glad to see her eating and gaining strength! Dad did come with us. He said he felt rested. I can't argue with him, so there you are. I know even if he were tired he would have said he wasn't, so that's why I say . . . can't argue with him.

Wow! My DS had mono too his Sr. year. Boy, he was sick! But he felt ready to go back to school after 2 weeks @ home. I thought it was too soon, but he did manage.

I couldn't agree with you more! Glad you argued w/that Principal and Mom's DO know best! so sorry your grand son is ill. Hope that ear infection clears up quickly.

******
FBS 75 @ 5 am. Mom had a pretty good day yesterday. It's challenging to get Mom to move, but she walked like a champ yesterday. Mr. Spot doesn't mind the extra walk either! Mr. Spot and I get up early to get our walk in and then home to get breakfast going for everyone. Then afterwards I get MOM out for her walk.

Ready to tackle today. Finally got a good night sleep and so did Mom. Makes all the difference.

Have to think of where to take her today to get her out but we'll find something.

BARB I am so glad you and your parents had a great time with you on the fourth. That was awesome to read. Does your Dad usually go with you when Mom goes or does he stay back and have some me time,. It is great she is eating again that will really help getting good nutrition. Way to go.
Our DHS has an ear infection. He is going in to his sophomore year and that reminded me his father had a bad ear infection. In October he had mono and could not walk in a straight line. He was sick till January and he could not go to school. I asked for tutors but none were available. H was told to do summer school. I told them he has not had his senior year. He would have an unsigned diploma. I asked Mark how he felt about another senior year . He sai he felt he needed that since it was physics and chemistry. The principal refused , he sent us to a mental health person and after we told him what was going down he told the school they had to allow him to work for his diploma.
The principal was taken aback but Our son and I agree it was better for him to do it that way since he is now a chemical engineer. So often Mothers know better HUGS Pat in Maine.

Hope you all had a great 4th. Got Mom & Dad out for fresh air yesterday. Already Mr. Spot & I made our neighborhood sojourn and stopped @ the park. did the jingle gym pull ups, back of the park bench bicep and tricep push ups, calf lifts, hip adduction/abduction, and did the track. Balance ball back extension and crunches when I got home. Did Dr. Oz planks this morning -- saw planks -- did 8 reps and was able to hold for 7 seconds each one. Progress?? I hope!

Mom did very well. We had hamburgers and she ate it! That's the most she's eaten in a long time. It's hard to get her moving, but if we have a destination (like a store) she's willing to walk. So be it!

FBS 75 @ 5 am. Looks like a nice day today.

CAT: You're doing well. Just do take it a day-at-a-time. I have to agree, my parents are definitely wanting to do things their way, and as much as possible, that's what's going to happen. But I'm glad they're here and not 2 hrs. away so I can help out more. HUGS!

Mom had a good day. Not confused. Very hesitant to move, but she HAS to move. So, today's goal is getting out for another short walk around the neighborhood. She won't listen to Dad, but she does to me, so we play "good cop, bad cop". What can I say. You have to do what you have to do.

Getting slowly into a routine. I am happy with that.

My only real concern now is my stupid thyroid. My level is down from a TSH of 1.4 in January to .32 now (the parameters of normal are .3 to 3.0 -- and @ .32, I am approaching hyperthyroid. Good Lord! I've been so hypothyroid over the years this is a huge "What the heck is going on?" moment for me. So, now I have to go on a completely different med @ a different dose. ACK! My body does not acclimate well to changes in thyroid meds (BTDT) so we'll see how this goes.

I would suppose that having lost all the weight I have has made the thyroid kick in a little bit. But we'll just have to take it a day-at-a-time, like everything else.

HUGS and here's to a good day.

****DANCE PARTY Friday 05 July 2013 @ 7 pm daylight time Dance to what makes your happy feel move! Be sure to hydrate with something refreshing afterwards.******

Found this and thought maybe I'd give it a try after the dance party (sorry -- don't have nutrition info on this one)

Blueberry Ice Pops

Ingredients:

5 Cups fresh blueberries
1/2 Cup sugar
1 Tablespoon lemon juice (ideally freshly squeezed)

Instructions:

1. Add all ingredients, along with 1/2 cup cold water, to a blender. Puree until smooth. Place a fine-mesh sieve inside a large bowl and strain mixture through it. Use a rubber spatula to press down as much of the liquid as you can. Discard solids in sieve. You should have a about 3 cups of the blueberry mixture; add more water and stir a little if it’s less than that.

2. Divide the blueberry mixture evenly among the ice pop molds or whatever else you’re using. Place wooden sticks in each mold and freeze for 3+ hours.

3. When frozen, dip the bottom of molds in warm water for just 2-3 seconds to release.

Trying to get back to spark. Dealing with my mom's death ahs been hard. Jsut ahve no energy to do anything now that we are home. I was running on all 8 cylinders over the past two weeks and now the engine is in granny gear if not reverse!!!. Guess the adrenaline ran out. My eating habits were shot to heck so now I am starting over from the beginning and I do mean the beginning. Today my goal is to get in 8 glasses of water. I will also try to include more freggies but that is not a priorty right now. the water is key.

1CRAZYDOG - sorry to hear of the troubles you are haivng with your mom and dad. It is truly hard when they are old and ailing. I can totally relate to the desire for independence on their part. My mom was adamant that she was going to be in her own apartment until the end. She stayed there as long as she could. She did things her way and I give her credit for that. It wasn't always the best choice but it was her way.

Hope everyone is hanging in there. Just do like me...take it one day at a time!!!

FBS 75 @ 5 am. Out the door early for my walk w/Mr. Spot. Puttered a little in the garden. Now onto the "daily routine" . . . whatever that is anymore! LOL

Yesterday Mom was not confused at all! Learned a LOT talking to her about when she was growing up. I am soooooooo glad I'm recording these stories! I guess her ability to retain long term memory is good so she's sharing these stories. Short term memory -- just not there @ all. Takes lots of re-directing for her to follow instructions if there's more than one step involved. Counseled Dad that HE HAS TO BE IN CHARGE OF THE FINANCES. so, went thru the check book with him (he had a checking statement to reconcile the check book that he'd gotten with the mail on Saturday and took along here, thank goodness. So, we worked on that. **SIGH** Getting old really is totally challenging!

****DANCE PARTY Friday 05 July @ 7 pm daylight time Dance to whatever makes your feet happy! Be sure to have something refreshing afterwards to hydrate!******

Mom does very much better when she gets out, so we went for a walk and then a little outing to Target. Didn't buy anything (didn't NEED anything) so just walked around and looked.

Mr. Spot -- well, he's getting his share of banana, because my Dad is "contributing to the cause" too! LOL He always has banana on his cereal and Mr. Spot is there johnny-on-the-spot to get "his share!" So, lucky dog indeed.

HUGS one and all.

FBS 75 @ 5 am. Getting up that 1/2 hr. earlier so I have ME time. It's all right. I am enjoying the peace & quiet.

And life marches on, doesn't it! Yesterday was Dad's 86th birthday. We went out to supper to celebrate.

Mom -- well, her left ear is improving. She has lucid moments, but has confusion, mostly when she first wakes up. I was having a perfectly normal conversation with her then all of a sudden she's talking about things that were "out there". Got her out for a walk, and that seemed to help immensely. Re-directing doesn't work too well once she gets started but the walking helped. Have also found that music, looking @ photo albums she's put together and watching a comedy show or movie calm and soothe her, so we've been doing that.

I have actually also started recording stories she's telling me about when she was growing up because I do not want to forget them! I think Mom enjoys that too.

So, the rhythm of life has changed (as I knew it would) so we're making it work. I am so glad I can give back to my parents for all they've given me in my life.

I know it's going to take awhile for it to seep into Dad's consciousness that they really cannot remain in their condo (she is very tough to handle when she's having her confusion), but I think little by little it is penetrating. At least I have gotten them here and they're not going anywhere anytime soon.

Yesterday was Dad's 86th birthday. Very glad we could get everyone out to eat to celebrate. Mom seems to do so much better when she's out and about and stimulated!!! So, don't know what today's adventure will be yet, but there will be one!

HUGS! NORASPAT: Definitely this is rather eye-opening for Dad. Mom is having bouts of confusion that are major -- mostly at night and early morning. There is (obviously) no way to reason with her in those time, so we use music, comedy TV shows, movies or looking @ photo albums and that calms her over time. I think it is going to take some time, but Dad is seeing that he cannot handle her along when she's confused. I keep stressing to him that being here is temporary for right now BUT as he SEES that he needs help to take care of Mom we'll enter into discussing the PERMANENT stay. SLOW process, but I'm staying the course. After all they've given me in life, I want to take care of them. It's my privilege, really!

ALSO makes me realize how extremely important it is for ME to take care of ME because I do not want to lose my own independence. I will do what it takes NOT to.

FBS was 93 at 6:11 am Still needing prednisone my eye looks better and I am sure it is seeing better.

BARB, that is emoticon that you have Mom and Dad home with you. That way with 24/7 you will see how she is doing and your Dad will see what is involved in her care all day and night.

I think that will be the telling story for all of you. You will see how he can or cannot realistically cop. Gives you time too. You can likely help him to better evaluate their options. Great Job!!. Well done take care and remember to take time for yourself. emoticon emoticon If you need to vent I will be here for you. HUGS Pat XOXOXO .

Hooo boy. What a day yesterday was. We left @ 7 am for IL. We met Dad @ the hospital. Mom's room had been changed, but it was a better situation for her, so when I walked in I found her smiling, engaged, EATING and LUCID. Hallelujah! Surprisingly, I had also discovered she was DISCHARGED . . . waiting for the paper work. Uh, what????? Dad and I were going to tour facilities (with MY mission being to show him that she'd be better off coming home with ME). Well, what a walk in the park this was! NO WAY that Dad and I were going to find a facility and get her transferred in a day! NO WAY. (Can I say NO FREAKING WAY!) So, after a conference call with my brother (gotta love that man!) it took us approximately 2 minutes to convince Dad that they HAD to come with me and stay for at least a week (I KNOW it's going to be longer, or at least I suspect that anyhow) and they started packing to come with us! HALLELUJAH!

So, they are home here with me. I think most of my aerobic activity yesterday was MENTAL aerobics. But it worked out the way I wanted/needed it to.

I am treading softly with what I eat along with the prednisone. I am missing my night time snack I get up feeling hungry but my sugar is at a place I like it to be.

BARB, You are right about the aging process. Somehow we have to address issues that are coming up in our senior years.
I hope someone will take care of DH or Myself if it comes to that. It is a distinct advantage having had DAUGHTERS. Take care and hope your Dad will compromise, just do not be too sure. HUGS and much love. I hope your plan works for the short term and maybe the long term

Fortunate enough to spend 2 weeks in Charleston a couple of years ago. We got a break on the heat and humidity. it was a great vacation. Much to do. Enjoyed it. Can't wait to get back!

Good morning--checking in after a weeks vacation in South Carolina. Went to Charleston with two granddaughters and daughter. Had a wonderful time but gained three pounds while gone so must work hard to get back on track. We even did a lot of walking but I guess not enough! emoticon

Just a quick check in. Mom had a good morning, but things went south in the afternoon. Totally confused, uncooperative, defiant. They're pushing for discharge tomorrow. GRRR! So, we're headed to IL and Dad wants to look @ some rehab facilities. I will go with him, but am not going to allow that placement. If she's uncooperative, confused and defiant, there's no way she'd cooperate with therapy in a facility, and would end up being discharged home. NO WAY can Dad handle her right now. So, after he sees 2 facilities, he'll be "guided" to make the decision he and Mom are going to come home with us. Period. I will stress that it's "temporary" even though I really don't think so! I won't tell him that. He'll soon see it on his own.

Getting old stinks!

175. Very hot yesterday. Was ecstatic to stay in the house. Got rapt up with this and that, and did not take my pm medicine.
