Cheer away! I have had so many things cured with chicken soup. LOL

So very glad that Mom and Dad go last night. Dad really is worn out. Mom was an emotional mess. All the hallucinations she had on Oxycodone (boy, I hate that stuff!) seemed so real to her it is difficult to convince her otherwise, but now today she seems more reality based for sure. **SIGH** IT is so difficult to see the parents get old!

OH my goodness. I am just blown away with each letter I get from John. He did move to Charlie company. He passed his prequals for marksmanship and his Delta company drill sgt. told him he is going to do very well. John said he will never forget those words. Me etiher! So looks like graduation is July 6th. I cannot wait to give him a big ol' embarassing Mom hug! And a big sloppy emoticon -- yeah, I'm thinking with red lipstick. Ain't I a devil! All I can tell you is if anyone told me it would be this way last year @ this time, I'd have said, "You're nuts!" I am so glad to be proven wrong!

I would just hazard a guess that those guys living in the university apartment long for a bit of "home" you know. Just a guess.

Glad Bob got home last night. Bet he was exhausted getting home @ 2 am. YIKES!

Awwww, glad you had a friend to go with you to the gravesite. That's such an emotional thing. HUGS HUGS HUGS.

Feeding frenzy, huh! I can imagine they could inhale the contents of a refrigerator in a nanosecond! My son could do that for sure.

Well, gotta get something put together for supper.

HUGS!

Good afternoon all. Have been readingsomeof your entries and see what wonderful mourning readings many of you have---keep up the good readings, you are doing great.
Morning reading this AM was 121---even after spending a geat deal of ie at the Y yesterday doing Zumba, water aerobics and walking. Will keep at it and hope readings will return to lower levels, so far I haven't been put back on insulin or medication.

82.... sunny so far but we are supposed to get a storm this afternoon lasting until Monday and lots and lots of rain. We do need it but yuck it means the treadmill as well as remopping the kitchen floor when the doggies track in. I really should pay more attention to the weather forecasts BEFORE I decide to mop.

Good morning Barb, Noras_Pat and all and now CNichole, welcome!!

I have to agree with 1CrazyDog, CNichole, your BF sounds like a sweetie. We all have sweeties too. And listen to 1CrazyDog (geez Barb, I am sounding like your cheerleader today) about the chicken soup. Great stuff. Hope you feel better soon. I love Savannah..haven't been there in a quite a few years but what a wondeful city, even if you are sick.

Barb, so glad your parents decided to come to you directly so that you can work your magic on both of them (more cheerleading!) Your dad must be exhausted as well. All the back and forth to the hospital and then the long drive to you. It is hard to see parents age isn't it. My mom had episodes of confusion but that was due to her brain tumor and my stepdad in his later years developed Parkinson's and occasionally got confused asking us where he was. He was such a dear sweet man who passed away at 88. He was 12 years older than my mom and they were so sweet together. My mom was one lucky lady to have been married to two such wonderful men.

You left out the fine adjective for a young man for John. He sounds so great. And all of which you and Jason are directly responsible (again with the cheerleading and now Jason's cheerleader as well). You certainly would have needed a truckload of tissues for that letter. I wish Alex would grow up. He is usually pretty happy go lucky but when he gets his stubborn streak up, there's no talking to him. But he and Hayley come by it honestly. Bob's father was as stubborn as can be and Bob can be obstinate on occasion. Only Ashley is more like me in that respect, just easy going and open to all discussion.

Bob got home later than expected last night. Delayed in Charlotte. He expected to be home by 10 and didn't get home until 2AM. And the commune was going at it full tilt. One of them got a new video game and they were at it all night so they are all here sleeping all over the house. What I don't understand is why here all the time? A couple of them are going to the local university and live together in one of the new apartment dorms not to far from us so why not just go there or go home. They are all just a little crazy (actually more than a little but I was trying to be nice).

My friend went with me yesterday afternoon to the cemetary and after flowers and visiting my mother's grave we walked all over the cemetary (it is a really big one) to find my dad's parents' graves on the other side. it was quite a walk. Afterwards we went for a late lunch. I am always amazed at how much my hometown has changed. then back here to a book store owned by my former neighbor to pick up a book. First time I have been in a retail bookstore in quite a while. I usually go to the local used book store that benefits the local Senior Center where the paperbacks are $2 and the hardbacks are $3 with lots of specials that save money. I have to say I was a bit shocked at the price of retail books, even with my 20% discount (for being a neighbor) . I used to buy several when there, this time only one. I loved to read, just don't seem to have the time anymore to read like i used to.

Not doing much today. Bob is cutting the grass before it rains so I said I would pick up the branches that always seem to be all over the yard. Then if the weather holds my friend and I are going to walk but don't know if that will happen as it seems to be clouding up fast.

Noras_Pat, try not to overdo it with the flower garden. Use good body mechanics since you have had trouble with your back before. When lifting, use your legs, save your back. I got that from a mandatory class on body mechanics that the hospital I worked used to give yearly (Barb, you probably had one too) . It is good advice. Can't wait to see the final outcome of your garden. We need to trim some trees back, especially a line of very tall Spruce trees on the edge of our side yard. they are growing over into the yard and that's where the doggies hang out when outside and they can get loaded with ticks from those trees.

Have a super Saturday ladies. I hear rustling in the family room and sounds like some of the commune are awake which means feeding frenzy time. Barb keep us posted on your mom's progress and Noras_Pat on your progress with the garden.

FBS 75 @ 5:30 am. Sunny out, high only 48 today. My kinda weather.

CNICHOLE: Your BF is a keeper! Hope you feel better soon. CHICKEN SOUP. Cures everything (well, almost!)

Good morning Pats and company.

Well Mom & Dad arrived last night. Changed their mind about staying in Rochester. That's alright. Mom looked in pretty decent shape. Fortunately no confusion last night, but she really does have short term memory issues. **SIGH** DANG, it's hard to see parents age. But for 83 and almost 85, they're doing pretty good. It brings tears to my eyes to see how they care for each other. Ok, getting mushy. Might devastate another forest for all the kleenex mopping up.

Got a letter from DS. It was dated 16 April and he hadn't yet moved to his new company. He says if he doesn't get the marksmanship class in this week it could lengthen his basics for another month. (OK, if you listen you'll hear the sounds of a Mom scream). Anywho, he is DEFINITELY not the same BOY we sent to basics. He is turning into a young man, judging by his letters. He brought me to tears saying that he is a " . . . man seeking for forgiveness. I've made a lot of mistakes with the choices I've made in the past and have hurt many intentionally, or unintentionally by those choices." Dang . . . the waterworks just keep flowing! But all in all, he sounded to be in much better shape physically.

That's about all the news that's fit to print right now.

Have a great Saturday everyone!

Just wanted to say good morning to everyone! Yesterday was a rough day for me. I woke up and felt like i had an elephant on my chest and couldnt breathe. I worked for 4 hours and then finally ended up in urgent care since my Dr. couldnt squeeze me in. Ive got bronchitis...got a steroid shot, zpack, cough medicine and inhaler. I am feeling better today but they warned me that the steroid shot could do that and then it can wear off later today. Fingers crossed that i am actually getting better though.
I am spending the weekend in Savannah with my boyfriend (he lives there) and i live about an hour south of him so we usually just get to see each other on the weekends. He is currently cooking me breakfast. What a guy!

I hope everyone has a great day!

NORAS_PAT -- OH, I can totally identify with the role exercise has for controlling your blood sugar and Dawn Syndrome. Had 'em both, too. Been off my Met for 1 yr. one month and all is well! As long as I eat properly and exercise haven't had a problem!

I love the pivctures you shared in your blog yesterday. Really quite a good way to give an idea of how much brush was cleared by putting it by a wheel barrow. OMG, that was one but pile of brush.

I feel fairly certain that it was the Oxycodone that caused the hallucinations and bad nightmares (she said she had that too -- only she felt like she couldn't wake from it.) I will be overjoyed and relieved to see Mom & Dad! It's been a tough road for them.

You know . . . much of what I do with myself sounds like a science experiment too! But haven't had many of these experiements that had anything other than a good outcome! Listening to our bodies does require a bit of that experimentation to get it right.

Have a wonderful Friday!! HUGS

Thanks Barb and Pat for reading my blogs.
I was given oxycodone and it was just like that for me too. I was having horrific nightmares. The sitting up fast ones even though my back was just recovering. I could not sleep in the bed i had to get up with a walker. I am sure the meds cause the TRIPS. It will be good for her once you are together and that way you know what is going on .

I had a golden opportunity last night. When i was first diagnosed diabetic /2 I was a total insomniac. I was always awake at 3am and took my BS and it was always 120-130 and my A1c was at 8.8.
Since Spark I have got my BS under control, been off metformin for over a year now and A1C 5.5. Yesterday I worked really hard in the yard and I went to bed early. I woke at 3am and decided to do my BS and it was 96 WooHoo Oh Joy. I went back to bed and it was 94 when i got up at 6am. I was so happy to see I must have my Dawn syndrome under control as well. I will know it if my Aic is still so good.
I am a science major and treat myself like an experiment. I do not mind it at all. I like to see a good conclusion or outcome especially when it is to do with my health. HUGS Pat in Maine.

75 FBS @ 5:30 am. Coffee AGAIN this morning. Need the pick-me-up!

Good morning Pats and company!

Yes, NORAS_PAT certainly has been working very hard on the garden. NORAS_PAT, your plants look beautiful. It is going to be so nice when it's finished! Lots of work!

Pat (PA) -- Hugs to you on the anniversary of your Mom's death. My Mom is my best friend, too! We chat daily . . . without fail. she's always been my biggest cheer leader, too. I know your Mom is looking over you and she'll appreciate your visit to the cemetary. I used to do that weekly for my brother, but now . . . obviously can't do that with him in IL and me in WI. UGH I do hate that.

Talked with Mom this morning She had 2 rough nights (confused and hallucinations). Sounds like Sundown Syndrome to me, because she was perfectly lucid yesterday evening (early) and this morning. She had been on Oxycodone so I will hazard a guess that the confusion is a reaction to the meds and being in an unfamiliar environment. We'll see. She is getting physical therapy today before she leaves and did walk yesterday several times, so they're making sure she moves. You know me -- Nurse Ratchet! LOL -- I'll keep her moving when she gets here! HEE HEE I guess I'll be taking her staples out too. Dad said the Dr. was going to give him the kit. Oh joy! I don't mind removing stitches or staples but AAACCCKKK . . . kinda jangles my nerves to do it to Mom! Oh well, I know it'll be fine.

She was not discharged yesterday, but will be today. She's happy about that. I expect they'll arrive here sometimes tomorrow.

Still no letter from John, so am trying not to worry. I know if something untoward happened we'd be notified, so hanging my hat on that one. **SIGH** Why is parenting so nerve wracking!

How is Indy doing? Poor you with all Menlo's shedding! Gotta love our furbabies though.

Well, Bob will be home tonight. That'll be nice.

Have a great Friday! HUGS

NORAS_PAT -- take it easy!

93.... foggy and cool this morning and I know because I had to go out to move my car so Alex could take his beater beamer.to work so he can work on after work. He's doing some much needed body work to it.

emoticon coffee because it was there but will be switching to tea.

Good morning Barb, Noras_Pat and all,

Barb, it looks like we are the only two keeping up with this morning chat. Noras_Pat is so busy with her garden, sounds like a huge project. I have great respect for people who garden. Just could never get into it. My mom was a master garderner she even took classes. She landscaped her whole yard and it looked beautiful, especially when everything was in bloom. She tried doing that here when we first moved in but no enough sunlight where you want flowers so she gave up. She also took care of my indoor plants when she baby-sat Ashley when we were still in the old house, some of which my grandmother had started for me and once we moved here with her not being here so much they all died. A combination of not enough sunlight, drafty windows, baseboard heat and me taking care of them (or not taking care of them and more me I think) so they didn't survive.

Today is the 10th anniversary of my mother's passing so I will be heading to the cemetary later in the day. Not a day goes by that I don't miss her so terribly. She used to talk all the time about how much she missed her mom and told me I would know what she meant and I sure do. She was my best friend always ready to listen even if I didn't always agree with her advice (I learn to appreciate her advice more as I got older) It's been a sad 10 years without her.

Speaking of moms, how is yours doing? Not in too much discomfort, I hope. Hope she is feeling the positive vibes I have been sending her and you all day yesteday and today. Make her move, move, move as much as the doc told her to. Is she going to go to physical therapy when she gets home...i guess that comes in a few weeks after the healing process takes place. Hugs to both of you and one for your dad.

Bob is due home late tonight. He left here on Wednesday at 1 and finally got to Chattanoga at 11 on Wednesday. Flight from Philadelphia was delayed a few hours then delays again in Charlotte. Then yesterday they all had to drive 3 hours to Huntsville, Al to the plant for a walkdown which took all day and then another 3 hour drive back to Chattanoga instead of staying in Huntsville which was the original plan. He sounded really tired when he called at 11 last night. The sitlinr also lost his bag but delivered it early Thursday before he left for Huntsville. This project was only supposed to be a few weeks as most of the work is being done in the Chattanoga office but somehow he got pulled in deeper than he wanted to. Always happens to him.

Today's agenda includes, besides the trip to the cemetary, some cleaning up and putting away (with two men and two boy dogs it gets messy-can't wait until Hayley is home so there is another female in the house, at least she is tidy) The kitchen floor is looking particularly bad so needs mopping. Menlo is shedding like crazy, great big clumps of hair everywhere so he needs to go for his summer haircut (actually I should say shave because the groomer does shave him right down to the skin to get out all the tangles) I did mention to Bob about a new kitchen floor but he only grunted so I need to work on that. Something not white, maybe that laminated wood or something like that. Definitely something easy care.

Noras_Pat we miss you but can see how busy you are from your blogs and am reading all of them as I am sure Barb is too.. Can't wait to see pics of the final flower garden. Huge project, just don't overdo it with your back.

Time to get moving. Have a fit and fine Friday, ladies.
pat emoticon

Good evening Pat!

Well, at least glad you had that depo chart good to go. Sheesh! At least you didn't have to go into the office even though you had to go 30 minutes towards work.

Isn't the "early warning system" the airlines have something else. I've gone through that, too with Jason. **SIGH** Some things just never change.

Don't you love it when your kids assume you'll know what they're doing (or not) by ESP or something. A real pet peeve of mine! But glad that at least you ate. I would've too. These kiddos have a short memory span when they say something is their treat!

Awwww, poor Indy. How old is he again? Spot is 11 and he still has some pep, but does sleep a lot.

Isn't the Gerry/Jerry story a hoot! I love that one.

Well, Mom had physical therapy today, but apparently couldn't accomplish much, though she did take steps. She had oxycodone yesterday. Problem . . . makes her nauseous! So, she was still nauseous today till I asked her what they're giving her for pain. When she told me I said see if you can get that changed! Codeine makes me nauseated majorly as well. So, I'll find out tomorrow if she did or not. I told her to tell the nurse, too, so an anti-emetic could be ordered. Hopefully she did that. All said and done, though, she sounded in decent spirits overall. I know she won't be discharged tomorrow, but maybe Friday. One day-at-a-time.

Frankly, I think once the anesthetic and that darned codeine is out of her system, she'll feel a whole lot better. I know I did.

So, that's about all the news that's fit to print from Wisconsin! Still puzzling over my lil sis's labs. Just can't figure it out.

Hey Barb,

I did stay home to work and was really getting a lot done when I had to drive 30 minutes toward work to meet one of the clerical staff to give her a depo chart that was scheduled for next week and somehow got rescheduled for tomorrow. Our office is supposed to schedule and reschedule depositions but this time the attorny's paralegal did it and we only found out because they needed the chart. Luckily I had it done. Place just keeps getting crazier.

Bob's either in Chattanoga by now or still in Charlotte. The airline called our home phone instead of his cell phone to tell him that there was a delay in his connecting flight from Charlotte. Thanks for the alert but he's already in transit.

BS before dinner was 74 and I did eat today. Be interesting to see what it is after dinner. I had chicken on a whole wheat bagel thin with provolone cheese and roasted peppers and a salad. Alex never showed up after work so when I called him found out he and the commune all decided to go out for dinner. Again thanks for the alert and glad I already ate. What happened to taking me out to dinner tonight? Must have slipped his mind (like everything else) Aggghhh boys!! Raising them is so much fun, NOT!!!!!!

Indy was starting to do better but not so much today. I think the cold rainy day has affected his legs. Not walking much and sleeping alot. Poor baby. I can't sleep downstairs with him tonight unless I bring down my alarm clock or neither me or Alex will get up for work. We rely on Bob for that (when I sleep downstairs and since he's not here.....)

Time to go relax and early emoticon for me (after BS and bedtme snack). What's up with your mom? Discharge tomorrow? I hope they gave her extra time. She certainly deserves it. Not an easy operation for a young person, let alone someone her age (not that she is old, just experienced and young at heart) . Loved the Gerry/Jerry story. Made me laugh as you always do.

emoticon to you, your mom and your dad.
Til tomorrow
pat emoticon

FBS 75 @ 5:30 am. Definitely a coffee morning for me! But I'll switch to tea and DEFINITELY water later. Been a good girl and have been taking swigs of my water between sips of coffee. HEE HEE!

Good morning Pats and company!

Fortunately my MOm did do well with the surgery. She had a bit of tummy trouble, but by evening she was able to eat a little. She didn't believe they'd make her get up and walk by evening (I told her that before she left), but they did and she did!

Don't even get me started on the ridiculousness of trying to discharge her today! OMG When I had the surgery I was 54 and for sure I wasn't anywhere near ready for discharge the day after surgery! And Mom is 83! You know, it takes time for all the meds to get out of your system, and that is just a slower process, too, when you get to be 83. Anyway, we'll see what happens today. I just got fed up with pre-cert and UR when c-sections were allowed 2 days. What the heck . . . that's not safe for Mom OR baby! Ok, off the soapbox . . . I think!

Yes, my sister is a puzzle! I didn't get to do any research yesterday, but I will today. She's a nurse too, so we're both scratching our heads.

Sighs . . . young men. What can you say. They do have their priorities and all things mechanical win I guess! Well, he'll know when the right one comes along, then YOU'LL know. I always remember the funny story my Grandmother told on my Dad.

He hung around with a group of friends too. All the time. Then he was introduced to my Mom and started dating her. Only his Mom didn't know that. Allt he time he went out she assumed he was with his buddies. Then he started talking about "Gerry" (my Mom's name is Geraldine but always is called Gerry -- except by me, of course! HEE HEE) but my Grandmother though it was a JERRY -- you know, the boy's name! So, one evening he brought GERRY home and they announced they were getting married! Here my Grandmother though that GERRY was a JERRY and just another one of his buddies! Guess not, eh!

I have to say, Pat, that Jason would be wigged out with a panful of oil now leaked onto the driveway, too! Oh what messes boys make for sure!

OH my, thanks so for the offer to help with my Mom if you lived closer! I'd be doing it for sure! And yes I think the two of us together would DEFINITELY have her dancing on MTV. HEE HEE I just have that mental picture in my head now. Too funny! But something to aspire to, eh!

Thanks for the hugs. I appreciate it. More than words can say for sure.

Hope you decided to work from home, Pat. That would be nice to be able to have some time w/Bob before he leaves.

Have a good Wednesday everyone.

95...no snack last night.. we ate dinner late and then I fell asleep but slept really well. I think I could sleep on a bed of nails.

emoticon coffee just because it was already made.

Good morning Barb, Noras_Pat and all,

Still debating about working from home today. I really don't have to go into the office today so why not. Bob is leaving this morning for the airport so I can at least see him for a while. I do have decide soon.

Barb, glad that your mom's surgery went well. I hope they move the discharge date until Thursday. Isn't that crazy that the amount of time the insurance companies allow for a knee replacement. Medicare used to allow four days when the commercial plans allowed two. One reason I got out of UR. Thought the hospital stays were too short. And funny since the reason I got into it was that I thought hospital stays (at the time in '82) were too long. And I do remember when you got admitted the day before (sometimes days) before surgery. I even went in the day before Ashley was born for blood work, monitoring, etc. And that was '84. I hope they give your mom the extra time to get adjusted a bit and then she can come to Nurse Barb to get her into perfect shape!!! Best wishes to her for a speedy recovery.

That is strange that your sister's parathyroid hormones are elevated and not the calcium. Now you have me intrigued. I will have to research that one. I am glad that she is doing well otherwise.

Alex usually is only close mouthed about girls. I sure do hear more about cars than I would like. He still blames me for getting his ex-grilfriend mad at him. She's over it now and they still talk infrequently. I don't see her too much any more. She works at the grocery store I go to and I got to talk to her then but now she is going to cosmotology school so I don't see her too much. We all just loved her. She was so sweet and had a great sense of humor and I really thought it was forever with them. Don't exactly know what happened there (probably all the time spent with the commune) but we were all really sad when they broke up. I felt like I lost a daughter. It's been a year since the breakup and I don't see them getting back together. She was really good for him although he says all they did was argue. Oh well, what can you do? It's his life!

I feel like that line from that song...Should I go or should i stay (regarding work today) and I don't know the name of that song. It just keeps popping into my head. I'm leaning toward staying since I don't really have to go in. And I would like to make Bob a decent breakfast before he leaves. And I don't really feel like the long drive in. Right now he is flipping out at Alex (who is getting ready to leave for work) because Alex was woking on his Camaro last night and drained the oil and I guess the pan had a crack in it and the oil is now all over the driveway in front of the garage. Boys have such messy hobbies.

Since it is already after 8 AM here, it looks like I will be staying here to work.

emoticon to your mom from me. emoticon here's one for you too. I wish I lived closer to give you a hand. Between the two of us we would have your mom dancing in an MTV video in no time. (you get to pick the singer/band/artist for the video-after all it is your mom -just keep it clean-can you do that on MTV?) emoticon Anyway you get the drift. If I lived closer, all you would have to do is give a holler. But since I don't, please know that I wish your mom a very speedy recovery. And make sure you don't get stressed or overdo it either. Sending all of you, including your dad very positive vibes as well as prayers.

Time to get to work emoticon and get Bob organized for travel.

Have a great Wednesday.
pat emoticon

IOEINC:

I am glad to say MOm did well. She had her sx this morning, back to her room around noon. They had her up in the chair AND taking steps. I can only imagine what she had to say. Probably not repeatable in mixed company! HEE HEE I told her that was going to be done, but she didn't believe me.

I called later this evening and spoke w/Dad. (MOM was asleep) Said she had a bout of "tummy trouble" (translation -- tossed her cookies! I KNOW -- TMI.) But she was able to keep down jello and broth later this afternoon. so, she's doing well, all in all.

The plan apparently is for discharge tomorrow (but I bet that gets revised -- maybe discharge on Thursday is what I'm betting). Anyhow, then they'll come here for a week.

got lots of walking in just pacing! LOL My brain was on overdrive. Now more relaxed.

Hmmm...your Alex sounds like my John. He could be the most closed mouth person. BUT let me tell you. since being in basics he writes pretty often and boy . .. does he spill his innards! Well, that's good.

That's about all the news that's fit to print from here.

My lil sis had her appt. with both her Dr. and oncologist. Lat results pretty good (all lymphoma markers seem stable -- no change) except now her parathyroid hormone level is rasied. But strange . . . no elevation in the calcium. That's a puzzle to me. So, I imagine she'll have to end up having a redraw and perhaps a scan of the thyroid/parathyroids. UGH But she FEELS pretty decent outside of being tired. That has been a chronic problem for the last 2 years. We're both just grateful that the tumor markers showed no change. Thank God.

HUGS

85....and that's with the same snack every night that includes peanut butter.

emoticon I had coffee on my way into work early this AM. Then tea the rest of the day.

Good evening Barb, Noras_Pat and all,

Barb, how's your mom doing after her surgery? I was thinking about her all day and you too of course. Prayers, positive vibes, all good things to both of you and your dad. I don't know why I was thinking that Friday the 20th was her surgery date. Won;t ask how it went because I am sure it went well but would like to hear about it.

The crazy screaming marketer at work resigned on Friday. YAAAYYYY!!! All the good stuff happens when I'm off. The marketers went to a local conference on Monday and she was there with her new company bold as brass as my mom would say. Everyone is delighted that she is gone. She was only there for 6 months and now moving on. Good luck to whoever works with her next . She is one royal WITCH. The company owner loved her for some reason even though she only made about a third of the number of referrals of the other two marketers. Good riddance to bad rubbish...another saying my mom used frequently. None of the clerical staff or the GM let me know until this morning. Apparently they all wanted to see my face when I heard. Childish aren't they?

Not much else going on. Alex still won't tell me anything about the Saturday dance concert or the name of the girl he took. I can probably get it out of one of the commune who has a big mouth even though Alex threatened them all with pain of death if they tell me. And what does Alex think I am going to do once I know her name? he is so weird.

Bob is leaving tomorrow for Chattanoga and will be back late Friday. I brought work home and have't decided yet if I am going to work from home tomorrow or not. I guess I can decide that in the morning. I had a lot of trouble with my computer today and the IT guy needs to look at it so maybe I should work from home. But who knows when he will show up to fix it anyway. He does his own thing on the side an is usually doing that when we need him so it could take weeks. .

Time to go see what I can make for dinner. Alex is taking me out for dinner tomorrow night (which means I pay for it) since Bob won't be here.

Keep me updated about your mom's progress, Barb. Hope she is doing well and is feeling those new age-y vibes coming at her.

Have a great evening ladies!!!
pat

Sending POSITIVE blood sugar vibes your way, FRAN. If you don't already do it, consider a before bedtime snack (like peanutbutter -- just a little). IF your morning FBS is a bit high, it could be Dawn Syndrome or Dawn effect. For whatever the reasons, some people's blood sugar rises a little bit during the night, thus a bit higher reading in the morning.

I had that when I first started on this journey, but the peanutbutter snack takes care of it.

Another thing is get plenty of rest. If you shortchange yourself on sleep, this has a profound affect on the hormones released during your sleep (i.e. they're reduced) and those hormones help work to balance our blood sugar. So sleep is crucial.

Water, water, water!!! Drink plenty of water. It is used in every single chemical reaction that occurs in our bodies.

Good luck. Hope this helps.

FBS 75 @ 5:30 am. PHEW, sunny and the wind finally calmed down.

Good morning Pats (ME and PA) and company! Definitely a coffee kinda morning. The weather is chilly and I'm sluggish!

Ok, got two letters from DS yesterday. He sounds like he's alright, but this letter was prior to his move to a different company (which happened yesterday). So, I'll feel a lot more relaxed when I hear from him again after he's had some of his marksmanship classes under his belt. Otherwise, he said he felt 100% better, so that made me feel better.

It's 11:30 am. Dad called and Mom just moved from recovery room to her room. She had a spinal anesthetic (I did too), so I'm sure she'll be taken for a walk this afternoon or early evening. Doubt SHE'S going to be highly enthusiastic about that, but it really helps a lot. Literally one-step-at-a-time.

that's all the news that's fit to print from here. Hope to talk with Mom later tonight.

Hi Pat (PA). Missed you @ coffee this morning! LOL Figured it was a very busy day for you. Was kinda out of sorts anyway, but fine now.

Yeah, I like petite better! LOLOL Oh, I do wish I'd had a camera, because the looks on my cousins' faces (the ones who didn't recognize me) were priceless. It is always nice to see famiy, but too bad it's at wakes and funerals. In our family most of us cousing are "old farts" --married and families. But then there's a few exceptions, my brother being one. He's 55 and not married. Has had the same "significant other" for about 22 yrs. YIKES. Don't know what they're waiting for, but seems pretty clear marriage isn't in the picture for them. I have 2 more male cousing (same age) in that same boat. What can I say. Wouldn't be me!

That's about all the news that's fit to print. The weather was so windy today! I did aerobic garbage can chasing this afternoon! UGH. Everytime I'd get close to the can the wind would whip it further down the dang block! Oh well, captured it and then waited for the recycling truck, because I didn't want to do aerobic recycling bin chasing! worked out fine on that one.

Take care. Hope Indy continues to improve. Poor bubba.

92... wow and that's the same as the temperature today. It is so hot out.

Good evening Barb, Noras_Pat and all you other ladies,

Sorry that I didn't get to post this AM. I really worked my you know what off today. I really didn't do too much the past few days, although I did have good intentions to get to some of it last Friday, Saturday and even yesterday. So today I tackled a lot it and then did the treadmill instead of walking outside to save time of going to the park to walk. At least I got in some exercise.

Barb, getting transferred to another unit doesn't mean that John has to start all over again does it? If so I don't think that's fair just because of one thing. Did I misunderstand that? I am hoping you mean groud zero for just being the new guy in the unit.

So sad about your aunt, Barb. I hope your Uncle does keep the caretaker for a while. He probably does need the rest. And once it really hits him, it will be nice for him to have the company. Funny isn't that people don't seem to recognize you once you've lost weight. I am more amazed that people from high school whom you have't seem for 40 years recognize you and you don't have a clue who they are because they look different. That happened once with a woman I went to high school with. We go out with a bunch of people from Bob's high school class and we were at a bar and she came up to me and she said my name and asked if I remembered her. I didn't but said I did. we chatted for a bit and then she and her husband left. He went to high school with Bob and we knew who he was but hadn't seen him over the years until the reunion. I finally figured out who she was, it was someone I went to high school with, although I didn't know her too well. She did look really different. When I found out who she was, I just didn't remember her being that short...ooops sorry Barb, I mean petite.

Noras_Pat is back. emoticon You are one really busy lady with the coordinating your fort festival and answering all those emails and taking classes. Wow how do you find the time. I can barely get my laundry done.

I think I need an early night tonight. I slept downstairs again with Indy to give him another night of not having to do stairs. But when I went up this morning he followed me so I know he can do it. He is doing better although not 100% yet. He is however feeling really happy with his pain meds.

Time to run and make dinner. have a great rest of the evening and since I will be posting late again tomorrow, have a great Tuesday.
pat emoticon

FBS 75 @ 5:30 am. C-O-O-L today, but not intolerable. Gray and rainy though. UGH

Good morning Pats (PA and ME) Glad you got dug out from all the blog responses, NORAS_PAT! Challenging, isn't it!

I agree with the Dawn Effect difficulty. Had that too and do take a snack around 7:30 pm or 8 (generally no later.)

Stress . . . yikes! That can just play havoc with blood sugars. Not enough sleep. So, AFLOYD, I think you've been given good advice. Have you seen a diabetes educator, a dietitian? Might help.

Busy day yesterday. Went to my Aunt's wake/funeral out of town. It was good to see family, but hate the reason -- of course. Some of my cousins haven't seen me since my "pre-spark" days when I weighed 192 lbs. YIKES. honestly, it was kinda funny because a few of 'em didn't recognize me, even though we grew up together! LOL Anyway, it was nice to catch up. My Uncle was doing fairly well, but looked very tired. I think he's going to keep the caretaker he had for my Aunt for a little while so he can rest up. That's a good idea.

Today Mom has her outpatient pre-op work up. IOEINC, remember the days of being admitted the day prior to surgery for all that?? NOT anymore. Anyhow, spoke with Mom this morning and she sounded pretty much at peace, for which I am grateful. Tomorrow is her surgery, so probably won't be hearing from Dad til the evening.

Did not hear from John yesterday (not surprised -- probably has to start from ground zero being in another company.) **SIGH**

Well, gotta get moving, but hope you all have a great Monday! Hope nobody was impacted by the weather yesterday. We had rain, but nothing severe, thankfully.

FBS 103

IOEINC I am Dx pre-diabetic and am trying through diet changes and increased exercise and activity to prevent or delay the onset of T2. I have been trying to stay under 100 for FBS and follow the nutrition plan and make it to the gym 3 or 4 times a week. I have a plethora of T2 and heart disease patients and deaths in my family and I'm using the new pre-diabetes Dx as a wake up call to regain control of my health.
Normally if my morning number is high I can look back and see where I went a little off course. It's the mornings that it's high and I know that I didn't go off course that have been a puzzle to me.
Noras_Pat, I have heard of the Dawn effect but I didn't do a lot of reading up on it because I didn't think that it applied to me at this point. Maybe I will have to go back and read more.
I'm having to re-adjust my ways of approaching things too. I was a math major in school and I enjoy a "do this, subtract that, and add this thing and get the same answer every time" approach to my life. I am learning (quickly) that my formula approach to life doesn't seem to apply to pre-diabetes, T2 or hypothyroid at all.
Thanks for the support and helping me educate myself guys, it's appreciated.

AFLOYD. it is called the DAWN EFFECT, Dawn Phenomenon other names too.
I was a very light sleeper and i would take my FBS middle of the night around 3am and it was up there in the morning it was much lower. It occurred to mt that since A1c was an average over three months then those times all figure in to that number.
I read about eating at bedtime. I eat Oat Bran, I use half a small banana and some cottage cheese. I am often low on fat in the tracker so I add 1 tablespoon of milled (GROUND) Flax seed.
This has helped i am certain. I no longer awaken in the night so i cannot guarantee that it is not higher at 3am but my FBS is usually where I want it and my Aic is 5.5.
You can SEARCH --- DAWN EFFECT---
recently my FBS has been higher. Sometimes i have added a whole banana because I was getting neck cramps, I thought it might be low potassium but I still get those neck cramps and Dr says if they persist she wants to do a scan or MRI.
Now I am back to my evening exercise and night time snack just before bed. That is how i do it BUT it is different for many, Hugs Pat in Maine.
BARB, I am back I am hoping to keep up with you all.
IOEINC ---( DARN) another senior MOMENT I cannot remember I think- hope it is the other Pat in Pa but not certain. I wanted to thank you for reading and commenting on my blogs but I could not get to you so here I am.
I never realised how many people do not have pages that I could not get to. Many said I had to friend them to do it but I really cannot think about having any more friends just so the number gets bigger, I don't want to have numbers i want friends like you people are, Chatting, joking and supporting one another. It can be hard to friend people at first. Some people actually ask questions and there is no way to answer them. I like being able to envision my virtual friends. I can feel when they are happy or sad.
CRAZYDOG1 and Pat in PA I am back- I hope I am back. I even forgot to add my FBS -OOPS!emoticonemoticonemoticonemoticonemoticonemoticonemoticon
Enjoy your day!

AFloyd.. Have you tried a snack about an hour or two before bedtime. I have found that to help me keep my FBS within range. I usually eat 15-20 Gms of carbs with some protein and I pretty much stick to the same thing for my snack each night. I don't know what your doctor has recommended for your range but my endocrine would be okay with an occasional FBS of 113. Some docs recommend being between 80 to 120 and others prefer being under 100. What do you normally run? A few weeks back I had two consecutive post dinner BS at 210 and 215 two hours after eating without any change in my diet or exercise and other BSs throughout the day in normal range for me and since then have been in my normal post dnner range. I am still puzzled by those two days. Hope this helps. Anyone else have any ideas for AFloyd?

Does anyone know why bs would randomly be high in the morning when I followed my nutrition plan, exercised and did everything right. I didn't have a midnight ice cream indulgence or anything and this morning it's high for seemingly no reason! I don't get it.

Pat (PA):

I really do think that not feeling well just caused him to loose focus. So . . . it's a blip on the radar and I'm sure he's not the only one going through this. Just disappointing.

Unfortunately, now we have to wait to get his new addy. **SIGH** I have a letter started to send the day we get the new addy. I HATE this, but it's all part of the drill (no pun intended) I guess.

Thanks for the good vibes for Mom! They're leaving today (Sunday) and she has all her out patient pre-op testing tomorrow. Surgery is Tuesday, the 17th. Don't know what time yet, but she'll find that out tomorrow.

Gotta roll. Leaving for the wake/funeral.

OHHHHHhhhhhHHHhh. . . so what's the 4-1-1 on the new girl in Alex's life?? HEE HEE Fun being a Mom when boys never say a WORD, isn't it! LOL But he'll tell you when he's ready, like you've said before. Hope they had fun @ the concert.

97...cloudy and supposed to rain later today.

Good morning Barb, Noras_Pat and all,

Not too much going on here. Working a bit today and meeting my friend for our walk in a few minutes. We had a quiet night in last night. I slept on the sofa last night. Indy couldn't barely move, let alone try the stairs to come up with us. Alex walked him yesterday and walked him farther than he should have. Indy has trouble with his right hind leg and I only want him walked a little bit (out to the driveway and a bit around the yard when he usually slows down) but apparently Alex walked him up the street (uphill) so he was hurting yesterday. I usually give him his pain meds before he goes for walk but I wasn't here when Alex took him. Poor Indy spent his evening all drugged up with pain killers. He seems better today but still has trouble with the step into the house and the step up into the kitchen.

Alex went out last night with some of the commune (and girls) to a dance concert at the Electric Factory in Philadelphia. Alex must like the girl he took because he doesn't dance. Can't wait to hear that story.

Never did get my haircut yesterday. Way too crowded so will try for sometime this week. I may have to find a new place to go.

Barb, so sorry John was feeling down about his marksmanship test and has to redo it. I'm sure he will do better this next time. Like you said maybe not feeling well affected the outcome. Since he got transferred to another unit, do you have to get a new address to write to him? Have a safe trip today and to your parents too.

Is your mom's surgery this Friday? I will keep her in my thoughts and prayes and send her positive vibes as well (might as well cover all bases). She's been through a lot with breast cancer surgery and her shoulder surgeries and now a knee replacement. She sure is a strong lady. It's nice that she will be able to come to your house to recuperate for awhile. That was one of the reasons I am glad we were able to stay around our parents. Not just so my kids would grow up being able to see their grandparents often, but to be able to be there when they needed us.

Time for me to get going for my walk. Hope you all have a safe Sunday!!

FBS 75 @ 5:30 am. Kinda surprised. WAY stressful day, so thought it would be up. GLAD it's not.

Good morning Pats (PA and ME), and company.

Sunday . . . rainy. Ok, usually I'm not like this, but today, the rain fits my mood. Got a letter from DS yesterday and it was a downer. He did not pass his marksmanship test at the level they expect, so he is now being transferred from his unit to another one, and that's the one he'll graduate with. The new unit he's going to is going to do the 2 week marksmanship class he just finished. So, in essense, it's a re-do and he'll get the skill, I"m sure. BUT it also means a 2 week delay in graduation. That's alright too. I just will be happy when he GRADUATES . . . whenever!! He was so disappointed sounding in his letter . . . I don't blame him. But apparently it happens a lot. So, the only thing to do is re-do it and learn the skill.

The good news is he feels almost 100% now and is eating normally again. I am sure that his not feeling good contributed to not being able to focus on the skill. But now that he's feeling better, I hope it comes easier to him. **SIGH**

Mom & Dad leave today for Mayo Clinic. Mom was in good spirits yesterday, so just praying for her. Supposed to be rotten weather today (dang it all!) so ust praying that the bulk of their trip is not impacted by rain.

Going to IL for my Aunt's wake/funeral today. Travelling through the same cruddy weather. Right now it has stopped raining, but more storms expected this afternoon. Just want today to be over with!

I did get a relatively good sleep last night, so I know things will be alright. Just have to hang in there! And I will! I'm too stubborn not to. HEEE HEE
