Thank you, all of u, for such great ideas and words of support and encouragement! I think you are right. I think I am going to take the weekend and relax. I think if I do get my exercise in, that will be a bonus but I'm not going to push myself. If I'm not up to it, so be it....it's not the end of the world. I've been sparking now since July almost everyday, maybe I do just need a little break. It doesn't mean that I'll just "let go" and never spark again..Lol. I'm just gonna take these last 2 days and the next day and a half to myself and just chill. No pressure,no stress. I'm going to try to decompress and put some personal issues behind me so I'll be fresh on Monday and be more "on my game" so I can start sparking again full force. I'm just sad and overwhelmed right now with money issues, insurance issues, and family stuff. My heart just isn't into diet and exercise. I just hit the nail on the head. Thank u all for making me realize just what I needed. I guess just the thought of "no pressure" on myself made me realize just what my problems have been and what has been weighing me down these last few days. Take those issues and add on guilt over not exercising and feeling like I'm letting myself down by not eating as healthy as I should be. No wonder I've been feeling so depressed! I can't thank u all enough...So, I'm just gonna take a break and take the pressure off my shoulders for awhile. Talk to u all soon and when I'm back, I know I'll be 100%!!

Hi Courtney, welcome emoticon

I agree with both Joette & Tara - great advice! I did the same exercise as Tara. I used it to make a board so I just need to walk into a room to access it, and see it when I'm not planning too either! I included the things I want to do that losing weight/ being fitter/ healthier will permit and included photos, pictures & motivational quotes.

Sometimes we need a little down time, even if we're not fully aware of the reason. How about you give yourself the rest of the weekend to relax, start a couple of things that Joette suggested, do the exercise that Tara shared and start this week's challenge - challenges start on Sundays - we try to post on a Saturday to allow people to include it in any planning they're doing.

Above all log on every day, even if you're not on track with food or exercise, join in the challenge if you can, posting every day helps to keep you focused.

Be kind to yourself and get back into sparking gradually - we'll be here cheering you on!

Hi, Courtney, and welcome to the team! I think it's pretty safe to say that everybody faces times of struggle on this journey; I know I have. I'm sure you have set up goals for yourself on this journey, Spark does a great job at walking us through that process. But recently I did an assignment that really helps me keep those goals in focus; I examined all the reasons I want to loss weight. Of course there are the usual reasons, lower number on the scale, smaller clothes, look better, feel better...but then I went deeper. Reasons like avoiding the devastating results of diabetes, being alive and able to play with my future grandchildren and taking control of my life. If you haven't made a list of your reasons why, I would suggest doing that. Write it out in a journal or blog so when times are tough you can read them to help you find your motivation. Please remember that we are human and therefore not perfect. We will stumble and some times we'll even fall but what matters is that we get back up and keep moving forward.

The beauty of Sparkpeople is the people, don't forget to come here, read others blogs about their journey, do exactly what you did today, reach out to your friends and team mates. I firmly believe that we need each other on this journey; together we can and will reach our goals.

Courtney - yeah it can be hard to do this everyday .. Day after day.. Stay focused especially on the basics. We aren't expected to be perfect. We are on this journey for a lifetime. Set realistic goals. If you exceed them.. YOU are the one that benefits. ;) start small and build. Trying to change everything overnight gets overwhelming and you feel like you will fail.

Looking for ideas on starting small -

Start drinking more water, less sodas
Set realistic bedtime routines so you get enough sleep
Start exercising - even if its 5 minutes at a time.. It's better than it may have been.

Add in -

Tracking your food
Tracking your fitness
Increase exercise commitment
Lots of other things can be added.. Doesn't have to be food related.. Do you have a clutter zone that bothers you? Start tackling that.. In small pieces at a time.

Stick to SparkPeople... We are always here for each other! I think the people are the secret behind the success so many of us have here, ;)

Hi all--

I just joined the team today and I am looking for support. I'm still not sure how the team works exactly but I'm looking forward to weekly challenges. I need support in that I am starting to lose my SPark. For the last 2 days or so, I have been kinda depressed. Sleeping alot and I feel like my progress is nil. I have had no desire to exercise which is NOT like me. I'm trying to get my SPark back! I'm hoping today I'll be able to psych myself up and get back on track. I just feel like no matter what I do, it's making no difference in my weight loss journey. I've lost 5lbs. since July. My clothes fit better, yes. Somedays I have lots of energy and some days l (like the last 2) I have none. It's not my TOM, so I'm not sure what it is. SIgh,,,I just know it's time for me to get my groove back and start my exercise routine back up again.

Does anyone else ever feel this way? Like, no matter how hard u try, nothing seems to make a difference? Like you're still the same weight, same size, same energy level? Like you're just STUCK....

Thanks for reading...Courtney

I agree with Joette...start small. Perhaps focus on nutrition during the week and exercise on the weekends. And set small, attainable goals. Doing too much, too fast, can be overwhelming...so just take it one step at a time, one day at a time. Good luck!

Hi, welcome back!

Like others have suggested maybe involve the children in what you're trying to do - get more active with them, get them helping with meal prep/ cooking. As Tara says a little time invested in planning can help to make the week easier.

Keep going emoticon

My life is also busy and some days feel way too short! What I am finding is helping me is planning. I plan every meal for the week and make a detailed grocery list. Then I go into the store and buy only what is on the list, it saves me lots of time. I also spend time on Sunday (as it's the day it works for me) doing prepep for the week...cutting veggies, shredding cheese, preparing sauces, dips etc. I always plan on a slow cooker meal for those days that will be super busy. I spend time each evening preparing lunches for the next day and addition prep for the next day dinner. I will also do big batch cooking on weekends; get a big batch of pasta sauce, soup broths, etc and freeze in portions for a meal. Pull them out of the freezer for quick meals.

As for exercise, like the others have said, squeeze in minutes where you can. I do 10 squats each time I hit the washroom at work...that gets in 30-40 a day. Another one that was not mentioned here is if you are watching a little tv, use the commercials as an opportunity to exercise...do jumping jacks, push-ups, crunches, leg lifts, march in place..you get the idea.

Keep your goals in focus and you will succeed! emoticon

I was going to mention the calf raises before I read Bonnie's post. I do the calf raises as I brush my teeth.

Hi. Start small. I think the most important thing is to track your food. Look for ways to sneak exercise into your day. Doing grocery shopping, park farther away from the store and walk it. Do you have a question to ask a co worker, walk over to her desk and ask instead of calling or emailing? Take the stairs instead of the elevator any chance you get. Can you walk at lunch? While sitting at your desk, march in place. While doing dishes stand on your toes and heels. Do calf lifts. When you do the laundry lift the detergent bottle 10 times with each arm. Play with the kids, tag, red light, hop scotch, jump rope, hula hoop. Don't forget the water, aim for 8 8oz glasses a day. It does help with curbing the appetite, digestion and keeps you hydrated and skin smooth and not dry. good luck. emoticon

Hi and welcome back! I am glad you chose our team in your come back. ;)

The best thing I can tell you for getting back on track is to take baby steps. Don't reach for a goal of an hour exercise a day rather do ten minutes every day or five days a week, whatever works for you. Check out our threads titled "mind over body" they may have useful ideas for you too.

Jump in to our discussions and challenges! I look forward to you being part of our team.

Hi, I am back to SP after being away since July. I am having a hard time getting back on track because I work full time and have 3 young children. It seems there is just not enough time in the day to focus on my goals. Any suggestions on how I can fit it all in would be greatly appreciated. I really need to lose weight and be healthy for myself and my family, as I am at high risk for diabetes and I need to lose about 40 lbs. Thanks for any support you can give me.
