I do follow through when I plan...I have moments when I don't but 99% of the time I do follow through. It's the putting it in my brain part that THIS is what I'm going to eat...writing it down really helps. It's funny because I plan my lunches always but I have never planned dinner. I don't know why i was doing it that way. But it's helped so far.

PennyLynn73, I can relate to your problem. I had the same problem when I was working. And after I retired, I sat and ate. Not a good combination.Your idea to plan your meals ahead of time might be the ticket. Do you find you follow through after you have taken the time to plan?

After 42 years of planning classroom instruction, and then carrying out the plan, figuring out how to make it work, I feel weird "winging it" with important things. So after a little vacation, I started planning again, for my meals. It has taken longer to start planning ahead for fitness activity.

Today my focus is planning a week of menus that are low sodium or no sodium. Then I need to fix the batches of ingredients I must prepare myself. I've already cooked the beans so I don't have all of that processed salt from canned beans.

I'd like to bake bread and push the envelope, cutting back on the sodium used to stop the yeast activity. Might turn out horrible for a few grains of salt, but I'm supposed to keep it under 1000 for a week to adjust my taste buds.

We'll see.

My focus right now is not overeating once I get home from work. I do really well during the day. I pack my own lunch and healthy snacks but once I get home...I can easily ruin any good work I have done. I'm a compulsive eater. I just eat without thinking so I have started to plan my meals more and I have made sure I have plenty of the good stuff in my house. Last night was a good night and I hope to keep it going.

My fulltime home is in Florida. I've been up here a week and a half. I came to get my heater repaired. I thought It was broken in January when it was covered in ice an inch thick my last day here. So I cam up expecting to have to pay for a new unit. But evidently, nothing was wrong with it. I could have taken a class at the folk school this week, but the classes I wanted were either filled (pottery wheel), or for advanced (doll making). So I've been doing my own creative things here on the mountain, but I need to go back eventually because I have a convention to go to in August.

Every time my produce gets low, I think, should I be going home, and just clean out the refrigerator? Or stay and go to the store.

SKRIBBLEZ, are you still dealing with the bugs? You don't say what kind of bugs. If they are anything like roaches, putting borax or boraxo powder in the drawers, under the dresser, etc. should fix the problem. Borax or boraxo should be found in the laundry department. They crawl through it and crawl off and die. You can put shelf paper on top of the powder so your clothes aren't getting powder. If you think they have moved in to the rest of the house, the borax can be sprinkled under sink cabinets, bottoms of file cabinets, any packing boxes, etc.

At school, we used to sprinkle it in drawers when we moved into a new room, before we started to unpack. No roaches.

Good luck!

MY ROOM is still a mess! And I went to put my clothes in the dresser and there are bugs in it. So now I have to bomb my house. It was a donated dresser and I didn't realize the lady who gave it to me had them, that's just great. I'm supposed to be throwing a birthday/housewarming party on August 17th and I am not letting ANYONE come in my house if the bugs aren't gone, that's just disgusting. I can't get the bombing done today, my roommate fractured her foot last week and she doesn't have anywhere to go today, so I'm going to have to do it tomorrow when we go to step study. Then try to clean everything up, do all the dishes, wipe down all the counters and furniture, and wipe out the dresser, and get my clothes put up Sunday night, instead of relaxing like I wanted to. I want to hit the gym today, I have to sometime today or I won't get the $5 for GymPact (I pledged 5 workouts for $5 and I have to get the 5th one done today). Then I need to take a shower, and my friend is having a birthday party for her daughter at 1 and I want to go and then I told Jeremy I'd spend some time with him, although I don't know if I even want to, I'm struggling at the moment with trusting him and whether I even want to be in a relationship right now. Feeling extemely overwhelmed at the moment, would probably be a good idea to hit a meeting today.

I've been maintaining my exercise schedule. Alternating cardio with strength and rest on Sunday. I'm pretty proud of myself and I think it's doing me some good. I have to measure myself on Sunday to see if there is any difference. emoticon . emoticon

I still have two patches to sew. I have to have them done before time for meeting tonight. They take me about 15 minutes each. I should be able to get them done... No more shilly-shally time on this task. ;) (toastmaster meeting last night.. Word of the day was shilly shally and it means to hesitate or show lack of decisiveness)

Skribblz,

Sounds like you had a fantastic day. Maybe everything didn't go exactly as you wanted but I would say that enough good came out of it to call it a success. Baby steps is the way to go. If we put our goals to high or to complicated we are almost certainly setting ourselves up for failure.

Congratulations to you on your wins emoticon

Okay, so I didn't get any work done on my room today - I got off work around 7:15 in the morning, went to an 8am CA meeting, and then went home and napped until 1:30 and didn't get my dresser or other furniture yet. I'm going to pick it up tomorrow and then work on getting all of my clothes OFF OF THE FLOOR and into the dresser, and do any laundry that needs to be done. On a positive note, I did about 90 minutes of strength training at Planet Fitness, and it looks like I'll be able to stay within my calorie range today. I haven't done "my" abs workout (I do 2 sets of 4 different exercises) but I did some ab exercises with my trainer, different ones, and I didn't do the pushups today, I tried and could only do two, my arms are SOOOO sore! I did legs, abs, and a 30 minute circuit with my trainer and everything, I mean EVERYTHING hurts right now. My friend told me that it's good to eat bananas after a workout, that the potassium helps with soreness, and my bf told me to eat peanut butter, that the protein helps heal the muscle tears, and that Vitamin C helps with elasticity. I'm going to work on getting some more healthy food in my kitchen, I do pretty good, but it's mainly fruits and vegetables at random, without focus on any particular nutrient. I didn't throw the chocolate away yet, but I didn't eat it, I ate a Fiber One chocolate bar and this 80 calorie Dark Chocolate Granola Thin. I still have a sweet tooth! I'm working on it, though, I try not to buy chocolate at the store, and I actually had a small victory, I went to a meeting yesterday, and another one today, at both they had DONUTS - yesterday it was even KRISPY KREMES~ and I didn't eat them, I stood my ground and told myself I didn't want any, that I didn't want to have to work off the calories. Then I saw the side of the box, it says "you deserve a donut" and I kept staring at the box, contemplating, and I told myself "you deserve to be healthy" so I didn't eat it, just thought about eating it!

First thing on our agenda for the day----make a stack of hay and get it tied down.
Then, whatever time we get back from that....I'll work on laundry, do a veggie patrol in my garden and whatever else jumps out at me that requires immediate attention.

MY ROOM! I just moved into a house on Saturday and there's lots of unpacking to get done. I actually have a lot of things to do today! I'm getting my dresser today (my boyfriend's refinishing a dresser that was in not-so-good shape that was donated to me when I moved, you wouldn't even be able to tell it's the same dresser, it's beautiful now) and the rest of my furniture, so that'll help get some clothes out of boxes and give me some more floor space to do my abs workout and pushups, then I can hit the gym, take a shower, go to a meeting, take a nap, and go to work at 11p.m. I have to try and stay within my calorie range today, so I'm going to make sure I take things one-task-at-a-time so I don't get overwhelmed and want to snack on unhealthy stuff. Good news is the only bad things I have are two small single-serving chocolate turtle snacks, and they're half-melted, so I should just toss them. Other than that, it's fruit and vegetables, shredded wheat, and lean meats in my fridge.

Today and going to the library to pick up a book I requested and then to the club for at least 10 minutes!!

Got 2 books at the library and did 10 minutes on the treadmill. I had not been in way too long - so 10 minutes was long enough.

This thread actually got me up, out, and back home with $80 worth of produce, much went into a huge pot of soup, which I am now eating. Delicious. Very healthy. I'm happy!

Ramping up the learning curve on anabolic/catabolic as applies to metabolism and understanding how hypothyroidism might be a factor in all of that; and if something about nutrition can improve results.
